Bug#793670: mount: bad optical disk can place mount command into uninteruptable sleep
Package: mount Version: 2.26.2-6 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Dear Maintainer, I've found trying to mount an optical disk that turns out to be bad, (this is the case I've encountered, may possibly happen with other media) can cause the mount command to go into a noninteruptable sleep state, waiting for response from the hardware that never arrives. This latter can interfere in placing the computer in hibernate or performing a clean shutdown. My understanding is that the command could alternatively be implimented to use a "killable" state, similar to the uninteruptable sleep, except that the process can be killed. If there are reason's the noninteruptable sleep must be used most of the time, perhaps providing a switch to enforce "killable" when the media is of unproven quality would be possible. Thanks for any consideration. Regards, Dallas E. Legan II / le...@acm.org / aw...@lafn.org http://isthereanotherquestion.blogspot.com "Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!" - "At the Mountains of Madness", H.P. Its very important to find where is exactly the bug. > Regards > > Denis Briand=20 To reproduce this: While running lynx, with numbering of links and/or form fields activated: 1) Press the '0' (zero digit key) 2) Lynx then opens up a field at the bottom of the screen to accept input - a link to either activate (a simple integer), a link to go to (a simple integer followed by the letter 'g'), or a page to go to (a simple integer followed by the letter 'p'). 3) After typing 4 characters, it simply does not take any more input. This limits the maximum link that can be activated by typing in a link number to a maximum of , and a link number to go to without activating to 999 ('999g') or a page number to go to 999 ('999p'). Bug#763618: lighttpd: Confusing CGI information on default start page
Package: lighttpd Version: 1.4.31-4+deb7u3 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer, Apologies if I'm simply confused or not understanding how things are done with lighttpd and there really is nothing to correct. The start page clearly states that after running #lighty-enable-mod cgi CGI scripts are looked for in directory /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ but after looking at error reports after activating debug, and from what actually works, they are looked for in directory /var/www/cgi-bin/ This wasted some hours of my time, and maybe other peoples. Bug#750132: xine-console: Video driver 'none' fails for aaxine.
Package: xine-console Version: 0.99.8-2 Severity: normal '-V none' option fails when used with aaxine. It's on the list of supported video output drivers ('--help'), and would seem to be easy to support. This is desirable since xine does support some relatively obscure audio codecs, since fbxine is broken, it would be cool to use aaxine as a substitute for such audio files. Bug#702917: linphone-nogtk: linphonecsh has no provision to recieve chat messages
Package: linphone-nogtk Version: 3.5.2-10 Severity: wishlist I'm putting this as a wish list item because there may not be a gracefull way to handle it, but perhaps some imaginative thinking might overcome the issue. Basicly, if you run it as advertised, linephonecsh doesn't seem to have a way to recieve text chat messages. If the server/slave linphonec --pipe session is run in a seperate console (possibly launched with screen, openvt or tmux - in any case not as advertised to run it :-) ), you can observe multiple copies of the same text message dumped as they are recieved. Off hand, I don't know any way to route these to the (possibly arbitrary, and therefore not really predicatable) console where linephonecsh is being run. Maybe it would be good if linphonec had a switch that causes it to save messages (a predefined number of the latest in a buffer) until a request to dump them is recieved (a new command for linephonecsh) , then it would know how to dispose of them as it normally does for other commands. There may be better ways this could be handled. A brief note of this quirk might be good for the linphonecsh man page. Maybe it is best to use a seperate xmpp/jabber client. :-) I also noted that linephonecsh generic '' blocks, where it seems like it should just return to the prompt. Fixing this could reduce tedium associated with use of various proxies, allowing numbers to be used in a more standardized form and multiple configurations for a single proxy server, each optimized for convienience of particular services. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages linphone-nogtk depends on: ii host 2331-9 utility for querying DNS servers ii libc6 2.13-37Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii liblinphone4 3.5.2-10 linphone's shared library part (su ii libmediastreamer1 3.5.2-10 linphone web phone's media library ii libncurses5 5.7+20100313-4 shared libraries for terminal hand ii libortp8 3.5.2-8Real-time Transport Protocol stack ii libosip2-73.6.0-3Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) ii libreadline6 6.1-3 GNU readline and history libraries ii libspeex1 1.2~rc1-1 The Speex codec runtime library ii libtinfo5 5.9-4 shared low-level terminfo library ii libx11-6 2:1.5.0-1 X11 client-side library ii linphone-common 3.5.2-10 Shared components of the linphone linphone-nogtk recommends no packages. linphone-nogtk suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#689757: apparently due to recent changes by youtube, quvi no longer works there
Package: quvi Version: 0.4.2-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Apparently due to recent changes by Youtube, quvi no longer works on that site. There probably are some other sites where it still works, but the dominance of Youtube makes this a grave problem. The programmers for quvi are probably working on a fix, since I believe several other programs such as clive and cclive etc. depend on quvi. Probably the main things are to verify they are working on a fix, and keep alert to when the put it out, so the quvi package etc. can be updated when it is released. Regards, Dallas E. Bug#675544: iceweasel: apparent change in the meaning of -no-remote
Package: iceweasel Version: 10.0.4esr-2 Severity: minor Previously, when an instance of iceweasel was running, issuing a command iceweasel -no-remote . meant to open a new instance, not to use the already running one. Now it seems that this switch means that an instance of iceweasel launched using it is not to accept 'remote' commands such as iceweasel -new-tab | -new-windowhttp:// This caused me to open a bug report a few days ago, that was quickly closed out after I managed to open some new tabs/windows after a (compared to my normal proceedure) convoluted launch of iceweasel. Someone should verify this behaviour experimentally, or by code inspection, or communication with the appropriate programmer, and then tweak the documentation (including --help) of -no-remote appropriately. Bug#663418: cdrdao: would be good to have a switch to generate and use a WAV file instead of .bin
Package: cdrdao Version: 1:1.2.3-0.2 Severity: wishlist Although my root problem had been fixed by an update for cdrdao, at one time it was not ripping CDs cleanly without static introduced, and I had to verify with dd swb if=...bin | mplayer - that this was a problem. Although there may be reasons this doesn't make any sense, it would make things simpler to verify this sort of thing if cdrdao had a switch causing it to write out and use in the .toc file, a straight ahead .wav file instead of the .bin format. There might be other uses people could come up for with this .wav file, making cdrdao more useful.cdparanoia can create such a .wav file, but then you still have to run cdrdao to generate a toc file to go with it. Bug#627732: mimms: Would it be good to have a switch to dump out technical specs of stream?
Package: mimms Version: 3.2.1-2 Severity: wishlist I'm not sure if this is even meaningful in the mms: world, maybe the specifications are always the same, I don't know, but it might be useful to people like me who aren't too familiar with mms: and related stream formats. Any way a --identify/-i switch which would just dump out the specifics of the stream, similar to ffprobe (which doesn't handle mms:), mkvmerge --identify, file etc. Perhaps a validate switch, to sample enough of the stream to verify that it is valid mms:, with appropriate return code. If this in invariant on valid mms: and related, then the --identify could dump out some hard coded info on the format, otherwise real technical specs of the stream in question. This was spurred on by a friend who didn't want to capture the whole stream, but encode and save the audio on the fly direct to mp3. I was trying to analyze the stream to find out if it was simply a question of dumping the raw audio to a file or actual encoding. I ended up mimms -vt 1 mms:// and analyzing the captured file. It reports '$/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy', but several other apps can deal with this situation. I can see that it might be useful for this to happen to produce 'pure', clean dialtones, but I envisioned using it with some telephony/voip applications. As it is, I may have to fool around with holding a headphone up to a mic to get the desired result. Bug#603959: libsvga1: On installation, should check and configure for frame buffer
Package: libsvga1 Version: 1:1.4.3-29 Severity: important I installed in a different order, so perhaps this is taken care of. Apologies if so. I experienced problems using svga packages after moving to use of a frame buffer. Many were cleared up forcing frame buffer usage via the configuration file. My suggestion, if not already implimented, is that when libsvga1 is installed, a check should be made for the presence of a frame buffer device, and if present, the line for the frame buffer device / chip set in /etc/vga/libvga.config should be uncommented. This doesn't solve all svga/fbdev problems, but it made a couple of usefull utilities, zgv and bmv usable for me, and maybe it can save some other users grief, and allow them to get use out of svga tools. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libsvga1 depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libx86-1 1.1+ds1-6 x86 real-mode library libsvga1 recommends no packages. libsvga1 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#603646: lynx-cur: External menu could be cleaner, more like download or print menus
Package: lynx-cur Version: 2.8.8dev.1-1 Severity: wishlist It would be good if the menu pulled up when externals was briefer, more like the download or print menus. Currently it displays the full commands and the URL involved in each command. I know one blind friend who is confused by this display, especially considering the mess/complexity of many of the URLs you might call an external on. Perhaps provision for a brief description, and allocation to display the URL at the top, bottom or not all would be ideal. Perhaps some switch to abbreviate the URL would be good, specifiy how many characters to show. This can be achieved by handling all externals via a single script, typically a shell script, but this seems beyond the ability of a lot of people, and may be handling the configuration file is all that can be expected of them. Bug#603645: lynx-cur: needs a command to force submission of cgi forms like w3m and elinks have
Package: lynx-cur Version: 2.8.8dev.1-1 Severity: wishlist Submission of HTML CGI forms is too important to leave to the whim of web page designers and scripters, who too often have no knowledge of writing for web page accessability/usability, and seem to feel that javascript should be required for a simple form submission. Both w3m and elinks have provission to force submission of CGI forms bypassing any poorly implimented mechanism of the page's creators. Lynx should have the same. In w3m's case, a 'SUBMIT' command can be invoked after hitting the ':' key, or mapped directly to a key for invocation. elinks brings up a menu after filling out a field and hitting return, allowing submission no matter how poorly the page creators design is. The w3m paradigm seems most appropriate to me. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages lynx-cur depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.28Debian configuration management sy ii libbsd00.1.6-1 utility functions from BSD systems ii libc6 2.11.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcrypt111.4.4-6 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libgnutls262.8.5-2 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libncursesw5 5.7+20100313-2shared libraries for terminal hand ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-15 compression library - runtime Versions of packages lynx-cur recommends: ii mime-support 3.48-1 MIME files 'mime.types' & 'mailcap Versions of packages lynx-cur suggests: pn lynx-cur-wrapper (no description available) -- debconf information excluded -- debsums errors found: debsums: changed file /usr/bin/lynx.cur (from lynx-cur package) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: lynx-cur Version: 2.8.8dev.1-1 Severity: wishlist The LIST and ADDRLIST commands currently include links and form elements, but no and html elements. Inclusion of these would create a pure, functinal DOM (Document Object Model) rendering of a web page, that could be useful for simplifying lynx automation via expect, kermit, etc., and also perhaps for accessability/usability purposes. Bug#565807: iceweasel: -new-tab/-new-window not properly documented in man page / -help output
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.5.5-1 Severity: minor The -new-tab switch really should have a seperate entry in the man page to help draw attention to it's existence. Both -new-tab and -new-window switches should be listed as part of the output for -help, to make people aware of their existence, so they can use them. (I seem to recall at one time they were part of -h output, but I may be wrong about that.) These have accessability/usability implications for people who may want to minimize use of the GUI (for example due to preferences of screen reader technology for the visually impaired.), increasing interoperability with other software. Bug#563471: wodim: -swab does not work in -dao mode
Package: wodim Version: 9:1.1.10-1 Severity: normal I can generate a .bin file with cdparanoia -vr 1-aaa.bin (or cdrdao read-cd --datafile aaa.bin aaa.toc leaving out the --swap below when writing as below - this is another story) (note -r switch there) and a cue file with cdrdao read-tocaaa.toc toc2cue aaa.tocaaa.cue cdrdao write --swap aaa.toc generates an audio cd that plays fine, no problem. however wodim -dao -swabcuefile=aaa.cue produces only noise. Running the aaa.bin through a brief script to swap the bytes, (probably could have been done with dd swab if=... of=...) and retrying, the cd plays fine. mplayer -demuxer rawaudio aaa.bin with the first aaa.bin plays fine, allowing verification of a clean read off the original audio cd, without generating another .bin file, or piping dd output to mplayer. (I'm filing another report of some kind with mplayer, as I interpret it mplayer -demuxer rawaudio -format s16be -af format=s16le aaa.bin should play the a file generated by cdparanoia -vp 1- aaa.bin (note -p instead of -r) but only gets noise - it only plays the one from cdparanoia -vr ... without the -format ... -af ... parameters) Anyway, this seems to indicate to me -swab should work with wodim -dao, like --swap does with cdrdao. It will allow wodim to work with a slightly different input format. Thanks for any consideration given to this! Regards, Dallas E.
