Bug#321867: kernel-image-2.6-k7: mention not exactly latest
Package: kernel-image-2.6-k7 Version: 101 Severity: minor As far as I know, this isn't exactly true: Description: ... This package will always depend on the latest 2.6 kernel image available for AMD Duron/Athlon. Because in pool/main/k and pool/main/l I was able to find newer kernel images. Drew> Dan, the command you want is "update-rc.d xprint remove". This will Drew> prevent Xprt from being started up at boot. But then it won't get stopped at shutdown if I started it by hand one day. OK, just remove some of the links. But are these changes recorded somewhere as robust as /etc/default/xprint? Will they weather a apt-get remove; apt-get install as well as /etc/default/xprint? Or does one need a extra notepad to write down what one did? OK, maybe sysv-rc-conf has such a recording system, but it still isn't integrated with weathering a remove/install probably. Drew> I think what I will do is back out the patch which Drew> introduced /etc/default/xprint. It's shouldn't be needed. It is best to keep this value small, or the size of your document can get very large. If you want just a page, but none of the pages pointed to by that page, use a value of 1. Bug#6786: mirror the Packages files _after_ the packages!
S> You've been told this before -- *debian-devel does not control the mirroring S> implementation used by arbitrary Debian mirrors*. I'm saying that bug 6786 has the potential to turn the current perhaps two hour per day down time for apt-get, aptitude, etc. into a several day long down time. D> > Failed to fetch http://xx.linux.org.xx/debian/pool/main/x S> Yeah, real helpful of you to blot out the only potentially useful bit of S> information in your post... No. The root of the problem is bug 6786. Indeed if 6786 were fixed, the mirror process could break at any time and users could still apt-get upgrade with yesterdays state instead of not being to apt-get upgrade at all (if the mirror process happen to break during the 2 hour dark period each day.) Jeroen> Debian could promote this two-phase mirroring a bit more Jeroen> maybe, and/or provide nice scripts, that's probably why #6786 Jeroen> is still open. Jeroen> #6786 doesn't need to be fixed for this, the mirror admin of Jeroen> xx.linux.org.xx just needs to implement two-phase mirroring, Jeroen> something that anyone with a bit shell/rsync foo can implement on Jeroen> his/her own, and ttbomk, already a lot of mirrors actually _do_. If this two-phase-mirroring is the way to go, then there ought to be a standard package to do it. How can there be 1+ packages but no package to make sure the 1+ packages get mirrored properly? Bug#293475: dlpsh: ls -l: how about size information?
Package: pilot-link Version: 0.11.8-10 Severity: wishlist File: /usr/bin/dlpsh Tags: upstream We note ls -l is much like Unix stat(1). But why not add more options to get additional information. E.g., certainly something can be said about how big each database is. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#293474: pilot-xfer.1.gz: documentation locked inside program
Package: pilot-link Version: 0.11.8-10 Severity: minor File: /usr/share/man/man1/pilot-xfer.1.gz It says: (Note that some options are not shown above and short option aliases are excluded for brevity. Please use pilot-xfer --help to get the full list of available options). Bad bad bad. E.g., I am reading the man page, but I am doing so on the Palm. How am I to execute pilot-xfer --help? The reference material should not depend on being able to execute the program to see it. Or, e.g., I am reading hardcopy. Again I cannot execute pilot-xfer. Bug#293230: reportbug: batch job usage instructions
Chris> 1. Try adding --no-check-installed to your reportbug command line; Chris> that should suppress the dpkg information. man page should mention that side effect. Chris> You may need to add --package-version to skip a prompt. man page should say how to give a null version to get no version line added. The best I could do was -V 0. So far got reportbug --mode=expert -c -m -S wishlist -s "$*" \ --no-check-installed --package-version="0" --offline --no-verify \ --body="Perhaps missing from ispell(1) and/or look(1): `echo $@|xargs -n 1`" iamerican Chris> If you're still getting prompts (I assume that's what the echo is Chris> for), try redirecting stdin from /dev/null. Bug#293225: pilot-link.7.gz: say which command syncs the time
>> [ports are not all serial these days] David> What does the "S" in USB stand for? ;) You can't fool me. I'm a Master of Computer Science. >> mention syncing the time too. Otherwise we search and search the >> pilot-link man page for which command sets the time but we come up >> empty handed. David> That's covered under the "and many other useful functions" David> part. Issuing 'help' inside dlpsh will explain all of the available David> commands. I want "time" or "date" greppable on the pilot-link man page. It must be as important as the other jazz mentioned there. Else how is one to determine if any pilot-link tool can set the time? Just happen to type $ dlocate -L pilot-link|grep /man|xargs zgrep -i 'set the time' You see, starting at $ apropos palm one will have a hard time finding the tool to sync the time. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
