Bug#741309: gimp-plugin-registry: [script] cannot be used because it has not been added to an image

2014-03-10 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: gimp-plugin-registry
Version: 5.20120621
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Upon selecting *any* script under the script-fu menu, I get an error
dialog like the following:

Plug-In 'Inner Shadow' left image undo in inconsistent state, closing open undo
groups.

This is followed by a second error dialog:

Error while executing script-fu-layer-effects-inner-shadow:

Error: ( : 1) Procedure execution of gimp-selection-layer-alpha failed on
invalid input arguments: Item 'Background copy' (6) cannot be used because it
has not been added to an image

I tested this on a "clean" user account who had no local gimp configs,
plugins, etc. and got the same result.

Bug#740995: gimp-plugin-registry: depends on unavailble packages

2014-03-06 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: gimp-plugin-registry
Version: 5.20120621
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.2

Dear Maintainer,

This package is uninstallable because it requires the following
unavailable dependencies:

Depends: libglew1.7 (>= 1.7.0) which is a virtual package.

Upon inspection of the package website[1], it appears that libglew1.7 is
only available for wheezy (stable), and creating a mixed system with
stable is generally not recommended.

Bug#641866: iceweasel: Safe-mode dialog erases settings without warning

2011-09-16 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: iceweasel
Version: 6.0.2-1
Severity: normal

bugzilla bug: 687182
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=687182

Steps to reproduce:

started iceweasel with the -safe-mode option, and partially due to the asinine
GTK button order, I clicked "Make changes and restart" instead of "Continue in
safe mode".

Actual results:

In addition to the browser's settings, I also lost settings for my extensions.
For example, all sites I whitelisted in Noscript and Flashblock are gone.

All this happened without warning, and absolutely no backup of any kind was
performed on my ~/.mozilla directory.

Expected results:

I think at the very least an "are you sure" dialog should have been offered,
and probably something like "back up your settings before overwriting all of
them".

I really don't think my extensions settings should have been touched.

Bug#641664: tinyscheme: source code uses CRLF line terminators

2011-09-14 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: tinyscheme
Version: 1.37-3.1
Severity: minor

After downloading the source for tinyscheme, I was suprised to find out
that most of the source files use CRLF line endings. Although this isn't
really a bug, it does seem nonstandard. A simple solution would be:

for i in $( find tinyscheme-1.37 -type f ); { perl -pi -e 's/\r\n?/\n/g' $i }

Bug#588161: Solution

2011-07-05 Thread Daniel Bolton
It seems this is a permission issue. This is what I did to resolve it:

1) add myself to the group cdrom
# usermod -a -G cdrom USERNAME

2) Change the group of the device ( /dev/sr0 in my case ) to cdrom
# chgrp cdrom /dev/sr0

3) Make the device readable and writable to the group
# chmod g+rw /dev/sr0

Then log out and back in as USERNAME ( or use newgp ).

Bug#617183: apt-file: search just returns 'grep: conflicting matchers specified'

2011-03-07 Thread Daniel Bolton
Setting GREP_OPTIONS="" seems to have fixed the problem. The grep
manual warns that '--perl-regexp' is experimental, so this might not
be a problem with apt-file after all.

It might also be worth noting that grep is aliased to "grep
--color=auto" on one user account.

Bug#617183: apt-file: search just returns 'grep: conflicting matchers specified'

2011-03-06 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: apt-file
Version: 2.4.2
Severity: important

Running `apt-file search 'pattern'` simply prints
grep: conflicting matchers specified
grep: conflicting matchers specified
grep: conflicting matchers specified
grep: conflicting matchers specified
grep: conflicting matchers specified

with every pattern I've tried. I have tried running the script as different
users, in different shells (bash and zsh), and with different Perl versions
(5.10,1 and 5.12.3).

However, when the '--regexp' option is given, this error does not occur and
the program behaves normally. The verbose output (below) suggests that the
problem is with zfgrep in the do_grep subroutine.

2011-02-24 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

After dist-upgrading to wheezy from squeeze, I can no longer tap to
click. This includes single-finger taps in the center and corners, and
double-finger tapping in the center (the only types of tapping I have
configured in my xorg.conf). Other options, such as double-finger
scrolling, still work as expected.

I had to enable antialiasing in /etc/fonts/local.conf in order to get
antialiasing in KDM. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the
documentation for KDM.

Bug#569568: zsh: Missing build dependency

2010-02-12 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: zsh
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

After running "aptitude build-dep zsh", a ran "apt-get source zsh", entered
the source directory, and attempted to build a package. However, the build
failed: dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libcap2-dev

It seems that this package should have been pulled in with the first command.

Bug#567717: kdm: antialiasing does not work

2010-01-30 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.3.4-4
Severity: minor

The fonts in KDM on my machine are not antialiased, although that feature
is enabled in my kdmrc. Here are some relevant lines:

##
egrep -in 'font|alias' /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
26:AntiAliasing=true
29:FailFont=DejaVu Sans,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
31:GreetFont=DejaVu Sans,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
44:StdFont=DejaVu Sans,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
#

Things I have tried:
- purging kdm and reinstalling did not work
- dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig did not work
- removing my kdmrc and replacing it with one from a system with antialiased
fonts in KDM did not work
- changing the theme did not work
- running the graphical "login window" tool did not work

Bug#567641: linux-source-2.6.32: segmentation fault during compile

2010-01-30 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: linux-source-2.6.32
Version: 2.6.32-5
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

I installed linux-source-2.6.32, copied the tarball from /usr/src/ to my regular
user's home, extracted it, ran 'make menuconfig', changed the Processor Type
from "generix x86_64" to "K8", saved the changes, ran 'make-kpkg clean', and
finally ran 'fakeroot make-kpkg --append-to-version "-dbb-deb" --revision
"20100130" --initrd kernel_image kernel_headers'. About five minuted in to the
compiling, it stopped with the following error (using gcc 4.3):

  CC block/deadline-iosched.o
  CC block/cfq-iosched.o
  CC block/compat_ioctl.o
block/compat_ioctl.c: In function ‘compat_fd_ioctl’:
block/compat_ioctl.c:452: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See for instructions.
make[2]: *** [block/compat_ioctl.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [block] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/daniel/source/kernels/linux-source-2.6.32'
make: *** [debian/stamp/build/kernel] Error 2

I then tried linking /usr/bin/gcc to gcc 4.4 and starting the process over (I
re-extracted the tarball to ensure a clean build directory). That also halted
about 5 minuted in, this time with the following error:

  CC crypto/md5.o
  CC crypto/rng.o
  CC crypto/krng.o
crypto/krng.c: In function ‘krng_mod_init’:
crypto/krng.c:50: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See for instructions.
make[2]: *** [crypto/krng.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [crypto] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/daniel/source/kernels/linux-source-2.6.32'
make: *** [debian/stamp/build/kernel] Error 2

I don't know what package actually contains a bug, so I am submitting this
report againt linux-source-2.6.32.

Bug#566086: kdm: antialiasing does not work

2010-01-20 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.3.4-3
Severity: important

Font antialiasing does not work on kdm on my machine, even though I enabled
it in my kdmrc and restarted. The following snippet contains some of the
relevant lines of that file:

===
 egrep -in 'alias|font' /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

345:# Whether the fonts used in the greeter should be antialiased.
 347:AntiAliasing=true
348:# The font for the greeter headline.
 350:GreetFont=Serif,20,5,0,50,0
351:# The normal font used in the greeter.
 353:StdFont=Sans Serif,10,5,0,50,0
354:# The font used for the "Login Failed" message.
 356:FailFont=Sans Serif,10,5,0,75,0
===

I have also tried executing 'systemsettings' as root and enabling anti-aliasing
there, but this also had no effect on kdm.

Bug#564471: openbox-themes: Request to change attribution of my themes

2010-01-09 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: openbox-themes
Version: 1.0.2
Severity: minor

I created the themes "Bambo" and "Bear-tangerine" (I think these are the
only two of my themes in the package). These themes are understanably
attributed to "envyouraudience", as that is my username
on Box-Look.org. However, if it isn't too much trouble, I would like the
attribution to be changed to: "Daniel Bolton ."

In order to show that I'm not trying to take credit for another's work,
if you go to my profile on Box-Look.org, you can see this attribution
request in the "About Me" section:

http://box-look.org/usermanager/search.php?username=envyouraudience

Thanks.

Bug#564292: openbox: OB values not given by xprop

2010-01-08 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: openbox
Version: 3.4.8-1
Severity: normal

According to upsteam, starting with version 3.4.8 Openbox specifies its
own class, name, and role for windows as evident in a windows' xprop
output (i.e. _OB_ROLE, _OB_NAME, and _OB_CLASS). After upgrading to the current
version of openbox in squeeze and
twice restarting my system, these values are not found in xprop.

I am starting Openbox as "Openbox Session" from KDM. Here is the relevant

I can see my answer in the quoted text. I accidently sent it to your
email alone,
and after I realized it, I forwarded the reply to <563...@bugs.debian.org>.

Anyhow, I'll just paste it again:

> No key combinations work at all, or just ones with Alt/Meta?

The only one that I have found to work is to hit Ctrl+c to quit the program.

Bug#563828: finch: GNT shortcuts do not work in Xterm

2010-01-05 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: finch
Version: 2.6.4-1
Severity: important

I installed the finch package from squeeze. It appears to woek normally when
run from
Konsole, but not from XTerm. I double checked the man page to make sure that I
was
using the right key combinations. I think it is possible that some
configuration file is
causing the conflict, but until I can be sure, I am marking this as a bug.

I also thought that screen might have been causing the conflict, but after
trying finch
inside an XTerm without screen, I had the same problem.

Bug#538949: cheese: Bad ID choice

2009-11-05 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: cheese
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: normal

I am getting a similar error:

The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadIDChoice (invalid resource ID chosen for this connection)'.
  (Details: serial 1054 error_code 14 request_code 1 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I just got this error running a safe-upgrade in squeeze today. Here is
the exact message I got:

Bug#549961: checkgmail: erroneous 'incorrect password' message

2009-10-06 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: checkgmail
Version: 1.13+svn37-1
Severity: normal

Occasionally, and unpredictably, checkgmail will refuse to log in, telling
me that my username or password is incorrect. This is very strange
considering that my password is saved. I have tried re-entering my password
to no avail. I am 100% sure that I am typing in my password correctly- I
retried several times. I am able to log in in a browser with no problems.

Bug#548229: ksnapshot has no man page

2009-09-25 Thread Daniel Bolton
Sorry for wasting your time. I think a simple man page should have
been added a long time ago. Then I wouldn't have filed this report and
wasted my time. The handbook entry (
http://docs.kde.org/development/en/kdegraphics/ksnapshot/index.html )
pretty much gives the same info about invoking the program and then
says to click the buttons.

Bug#545510: pidgin: reports "waiting for network connection"

2009-09-07 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.6.1-2
Severity: normal

When I open Pidgin, the status bar says "Waiting for network connection".
I can enable my accounts by goung to Accounts > Manage accounts, unchecking
all of them, then re-checking the ones I want to use. After doing this, the
"Waiting for network connections" message remains.

I didn't notice this behavior until I stopped using nm-applet and configured
my wireless manually through /etc/network/interfaces. Note that all other
network applications work fine with this configuration.

The Nitrogen window decoration is a fork of the oxygen/ozone
decoration that allows notably to resize window borders, change buttons size,
hide the horizontal separator, select different title bar blending and frame
border size depending on the window title or name, in order to have better
integration of GTK based windows in the decoration style, add a size-grip
handle in the bottom-right corner of windows. This is particularly useful
when the no-border option is selected.

Bug#535832: kate request: background color in export as HTML

Kate's 'export as HTML' feature is handy, but it does not set a page
background color in the output HTML file. This is problematic when

use white as the backgrond color when no other is specified.

Bug#535102: kdeplasma-addons: System Monitor widget does not save settings

2009-06-29 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: kdeplasma-addons
Version: 4:4.2.4-1
Severity: normal

The System Monitor widget (to specify, it includes thermometer,
CPU, Network, Disk, and Info monitors) does not save all settings
upon logout. It does save which monitors I have chosen to display
and the approximate position on the screen, but all other settings
are lost upon logout. For example, I have specified which CPUs,
network interfaces, and hard drive partitions that I wish to
monitor, as well as their respective update intervals. However, all
of this information is lost after logging out of the current
session. This behavior seems to undermine the point of custom
settings.

Bug#535077: kdeplasma-addons: Notes widget reverts to default color

2009-06-29 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: kdeplasma-addons
Version: 4:4.2.4-1
Severity: normal

After adding a Desktop Sticky Notes widget to my desktop, the
default textcolor is set as the "Theme Color". My colorscheme is
Obsidian coast, so the Notes text color is light gray. With the
lighter Notes Themes (e.g. orange or yellow), this text is
illegible. Under the "Color" option, I chose #00 then selected
"Ok". The text I then typed in the note was the right color, but
after deleting that text, anything I typed was once again in light
gray.

The only workaround for this bug that I have found is to delete the
current notes widget, create a new one, change the textcolor, then
type a character (such as a space or hyphen) and leave that
character in the note permanently. For once that character is
deleted, the text will once again revert to the default color.

Bug#534957: Unstable nvidia-glx not installable

2009-06-28 Thread Daniel Bolton

When attempting to install nvidia-glx unstable, apt warned me as follows:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Please note that this was after I had installed version 185.18.14-1 of

Bug#519226: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg: Segmentation fault with libgstffmpeg.so

2009-03-10 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
Version: 0.10.6.2-1
Severity: normal

This plugin file, /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstffmpeg.so , renders any
program that uses it (like Pidgin and Quod Libet for example) unusable.
I will send dbg output from these two programs also.

Bug#518569: iceweasel's process name is "firefox-bin"

2009-03-07 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0.6-1
Severity: minor

The process name of iceweasel shows up as "firefox-bin" in
gnome-system-monitor, conky, etc. I believe that this should be changed
to "iceweasel-bin" or something to avoid using a trademarked name.

Bug#497881: fglrx-control: name of binary associated with package not mentioned

2008-09-04 Thread Daniel Bolton
Package: fglrx-control
Version: 1:8-7-2
Severity: important

The package fglrx-control installs a binary called /usr/bin/amdcccle but
the package description does not mention the name or location of this
binary. Also, this package includes no man page. The only info included
in /usr/share/docs about this package seems to be release notes and
copyright info. This package should contain some mention of the binary
that it installs since the name of the binary is different from the name
of the package.
