Hello. For some reason, I didn't get an email notification about your response ... could it have something to do with my (first) message being referred to as message #5 and your (second) message being referred to as message #10? Anyways, about the actual bug report, I'm unsure as to what I need to give you other than the automated information that trails my message. Tell me what you need and, I'll provide it.

Package: xfce4-panel Version: 4.10.1-1 Severity: normal In Debian stable/wheezy, when there are many windows open at the same time, the windows shrink in width until there are too many windows then, I get a little arrow on the right of my last visible window button and the visible window buttons are regularly-sized. Bug#586383: Relatively minor Atheros AR242x wireless card light flickering issue with Linux kernel 2.6.32 to 3.5.2 (ath5k driver)
Hi Jonathan. The behaviour is unexpected and it is undesirable because I believe the light should be orange only when pressing the button which disables the device. In the past, the ath5k driver worked at a rate of 1 Mb/s rather than the 54 Mb/s that it’s working at now (as mentioned previously) according to gnome’s network manager applet but I have never noticed anything qualitatively wrong other than the light flicker. Most importantly, long ago, prior to removing the pre-installed copy of Windows Vista, I recall the hardware not behaving like this (and the light was a constant blue when the network was enabled and orange when it was disabled).
Bug#586383: [lenny-backports] Atheros AR242x wireless card relatively minor issues with Linux kernel 2.6.32 in Lenny (ath5k driver)
Sorry for the very late response. I'm now running the 3.5.2 amd64 kernel like you asked, to see if the light flickers. Sadly, it still does flicker. Also, the ath5k driver runs at 54 Mb/s (just saying in case it matters) as opposed to the 1 Mb/s that I had written in that old report back with Lenny. Bug#586383: [lenny-backports] Atheros AR242x wireless card relatively minor issues with Linux kernel 2.6.32 in Lenny (ath5k driver)
Sorry, I just realized I didn't reply to the latest email you sent me (because your emails were in different folders). It uses the 3.2 Linux kernel that is included in the Wheezy/Testing distribution and the problem still exists. Ok, nice to hear. (Nice to hear because it means we have a better chance of fixing it.) Could you try the 3.4.y kernel from experimental and see if that produces the same symptoms (it probably will)? If it does, please contact linux-wirel...@vger.kernel.org to get an explanation of the symptoms, cc-ing ath5k-de...@lists.ath5k.org and either me or this bug log so we can track the conversation. Be sure to mention: - exact steps to reproduce (how do you connect, etc), expected result, actual result, and how the difference is unexpected (something similar to the explanation you gave before should work fine for this) - which kernel versions you have tested and what happened with each - a link to http://bugs.debian.org/586383 for context They should be able to say if this is a bug or an expected behavior and what it means, and if it is a bug, they should be able to say what a good next step for investigating in pursuit of a fix would be. Bug#586383: Relatively minor Atheros AR242x wireless card light flickering issue with Linux kernel 2.6.32 to 3.5.2 (ath5k driver)
Hello. This is a continuation of the Debian bug #586383 ( http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=586383 ) filed long ago. As a test run I booted into my system with the latest Linux 3.5.2 kernel. Upon booting, the network activity light is orange only. After selecting the 3.5.2 kernel, while loading, the light remained orange. I think the first moment I noticed that it turned blue was when the udev daemon loaded (this was from looking at what the screen said when the system was loading at the moment I noticed the colour change). After this, I noticed minor flickering and then the light was completely orange again. When gdm3 (the GNOME display manager) started, the light became blue again and stayed blue for a while. Right after logging in, the light turned orange again but perhaps it’s because I wasn’t connected to the Internet. Once I connected to my network, the light flickered at a faster, medium pace and occasionally stayed blue for a long-ish while (many minutes). I think the pattern is that when the data transfers through the wireless card (such as by going to the internet), it activates the flicker when the colour is blue for a long time and if it’s already flickering then, it increases the rate of the flickering. This issue was present for a long time. I remember having it since Debian 5.0 Lenny (with the 2.6.32 kernel) but I’m not sure if that’s when the issue was introduced since, if I recall correctly, I didn’t have this hardware before then. It probably was the first kernel which supported this wireless card since I had upgraded the kernel just for the wireless network and I vaguely remember something of the sort being the case so the issue may have been there from the start of the ath5k driver’s integration to the kernel. This is my wireless card (which is inside the HP G50 laptop) from lscpi: 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

Bug#632248: linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64: Copying from my external Western Digital hard drive gives Error splicing file: Input/output error error
I unfortunately think you were right since now both my Linux computers are telling me that my hard drive might die at any moment but having reformatted from scratch still has it saying that and gnome-disk-utility crashes (not actual program crashes) on self-tests however, during all this chaos, it seems to work perfectly fine and copying Windows stuff like games (=not data I use/make in Linux) seemed to not causes issues even before the reformatting. Now, nothing causes problems! (Except the constant nagging). Is it normal for the drive to work perfectly on its way to death or is there still hope for me (and work for you lol)? This drive is probably about a year old so I'm really unlucky especially since it was a gift and I don't have the receipt. Bug#632248: linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64: Copying from my external Western Digital hard drive gives Error splicing file: Input/output error error
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.39-2 Severity: important deniz@debian:~$ lsusb | grep Western Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1058:070a Western Digital Technologies, Inc. My Passport Essential SE deniz@debian:~$ I am reporting this from Debian Wheezy/Testing but this also happens when using Squeeze's backported 2.6.38 kernel. It even occurs with Squeezes 2.6.32 main stable kernel! It gives the same or similar errror whether I do it via the CLI or the GNOME UI. I also tried with superuser privileges. I think that this error causes certain files to not be copied. Reading this Ubuntu thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1500384) leads me to believe that it's an issue with external drives in general or using ext4. I tried copying using the GNOME UI with the Skip all option when confronted with the error and I ended up with certain files missing. There are many more threads from the looks of it: http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?Gw=Error+splicing+file%3A+Input%2Foutput+error If more information is needed or if you want me to do some additional testing, just ask. P.S. I also think it's likely that this bug carries through to newer kernels than the one I am filing the bug for but I am filing it for this version since this is the latest version that I have tested since the most recent Linux distro I run is Debian Wheezy/Testing. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.39-2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.39-2) (b...@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.4.6 (Debian 4.4.6-3) ) #1 SMP Wed Jun 8 11:01:04 UTC 2011 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.39-2-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/debian-root ro quiet ** Tainted: PO (4097) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [ 6457.609527] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 02 c4 ca a8 00 00 68 00 [ 6457.609541] end_request: critical target error, dev sdc, sector 46451368 [ 6461.034628] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Unhandled sense code [ 6461.034633] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Result: hostbyte=invalid driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE [ 6461.034672] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Sense Key : Medium Error [current] [ 6461.034679] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdc] Add. Bug#619972: gnome-power-manager: I also have this issue in Squeeze
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.32.0-2 Severity: normal I did not have this before. I think an update this but I'm not sure and I didn't report the bug until now since I had other things to do but it still happened fairly recently to me (a matter of days). The hibernate command works and resumes normally but when I hibernate the GNOME way, it hibernates fine but upon resuming the computer (from a GNOME hibernation), the computer hangs with a blinking cursor and my fan starts spinning fast and the hard drive is not spinning at all. I have to force the computer to restart and the filesystem has to recover the journal, etc. The laptop I am using is HP's G50. Again, Squeeze/Stable did not cause me this issue until recently so something must have changed recently. -- Package-specific info: Distro version: 6.0.1 Kernel version: 2.6.32-5-amd64 g-p-m version:2.32.0 HAL version: 0.5.14 System manufacturer: missing System version: missing System product: missing AC adapter present: yes Battery present: yes Laptop panel present: yes CPU scaling present: no Battery Information: battery.charge_level.current = 40104 (0x9ca8) (int) battery.charge_level.design = 48840 (0xbec8) (int) battery.charge_level.last_full = 40104 (0x9ca8) (int) battery.charge_level.percentage = 100 (0x64) (int) battery.charge_level.rate = 0 (0x0) (int) battery.is_rechargeable = true (bool) battery.model = 'EV06047' (string) battery.present = true (bool) battery.rechargeable.is_charging = false (bool) battery.rechargeable.is_discharging = false (bool) battery.reporting.current = 3613 (0xe1d) (int) battery.reporting.design = 4400 (0x1130) (int) battery.reporting.last_full = 3613 (0xe1d) (int) battery.reporting.rate = 0 (0x0) (int) battery.reporting.technology = 'Li-ion' (string) battery.reporting.unit = 'mAh' (string) battery.serial = ' 48' (string) battery.technology = 'lithium-ion' (string) battery.type = 'primary' (string) battery.vendor = 'CPT-U22F' (string) battery.voltage.current = 12359 (0x3047) (int) battery.voltage.design = 11100 (0x2b5c) (int) battery.voltage.unit = 'mV' (string) UPower data: Device: /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/line_power_ADP1 native-path: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/device:07/PNP0C09:00/ACPI0003:00/power_supply/ADP1 power supply: yes updated: Mon May 30 00:49:34 2011 (1230 seconds ago) has history: no has statistics: no line-power online: yes Device: /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT0 native-path: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/device:07/PNP0C09:00/PNP0C0A:00/power_supply/BAT0 vendor: CPT-U22F model:EV06047 serial: 48 power supply: yes updated: Mon May 30 00:49:40 2011 (1224 seconds ago) has history: yes has statistics: yes battery present: yes rechargeable:yes state: fully-charged energy: 40.1043 Wh energy-empty:0 Wh energy-full: 40.1043 Wh energy-full-design: 48.84 Wh energy-rate: 0 W voltage: 12.358 V percentage: 100% capacity:82.1136% technology: lithium-ion Daemon: daemon-version: 0.9.5 can-suspend: yes can-hibernateyes on-battery: no on-low-battery: no lid-is-closed: no lid-is-present: yes GNOME Power Manager Process Information: deniz 3479 0.0 0.3 213936 9384 ?S00:49 0:00 \_ gnome-power-manager deniz18993 3.4 0.7 176812 23460 pts/1S+ 01:09 0:01 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/reportbug gnome-power-manager deniz19221 0.0 0.0 3952 576 pts/1S+ 01:10 0:00 \_ sh -c LC_ALL=C /usr/share/reportbug/handle_bugscript '/usr/share/bug/gnome-power-manager/script' '/t deniz19222 0.0 0.0 9096 1272 pts/1S+ 01:10 0:00 \_ /bin/bash /usr/share/reportbug/handle_bugscript /usr/share/bug/gnome-power-manager/script /tmp/rep HAL Process Information: 107 1539 0.0 0.1 44380 4832 ?Ssl 00:48 0:00 /usr/sbin/hald root 1540 0.0 0.0 22172 1376 ?S00:48 0:00 \_ hald-runner root 1579 0.0 0.0 24288 1312 ?S00:48 0:00 \_ hald-addon-input: Listening on /dev/input/event11 /dev/input/event1 /dev/input/event3 /dev/input/event7 /d root 1586 0.0 0.0 24280 1268 ?S00:48 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-rfkill-killswitch root 1589 0.0 0.0 24280 1272 ?S00:48 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-leds root 1596 0.0 0.0 24280 1252 ?S00:48 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-generic-backlight root 1598 0.0 0.0 24284 1300 ?S

Bug#612242: tracker: Really high CPU Usage and Memory Leak
Package: tracker Version: 0.8.17-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I was trying to figure out why my computer is super slow to the point that I have to do a hard reboot to have it useable again and I found the tracker-store process to use 90-100% CPU (I think when it shouldn't be due to pausing or something) but more prominently I watch (with gnome-system-monitor) the memory increase from around 5MB to over 3GB! Bug#607954: k3b: Verification fails always (even though burn is successful)
Package: k3b Version: 2.0.0-1 Severity: important I burned 6 DVD discs (Debian 5.0.7 amd64 iso image) and they all failed on the verification process and then I used other software and it burnt AND VERIFIED successfully. I tried to check the md5sum but I don't think I'm doing it correctly which gives me a wrong md5 sum but still the trial and error indicates that this is a present bug. To confirm, it would be nice if you guys help me do it properly. Package: deluge-torrent Version: 0.5.9.3-1 Severity: important When using port 443, the program works well but when you close it and try to start it again, it does not start. Bug#586492: xchat: When typing so much that it surpasses the end of the typing area, the view does not follow
Package: xchat Version: 2.8.6-2.1 Severity: minor When typing so much that it surpasses the end of the typing area, the view does not follow. If you want to see what you're typing toward the end, you have to press backspace which is annoying because it deletes a character and then as soon as you continue typing, you can't see what you're typing again. Although I listed this as a minor bug because it's not a feature disfunctionality, it is really annoying to deal with. Bug#586383: linux-image-2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64: Atheros AR242x wireless card relatively minor issues with Linux kernel 2.6.32 in Lenny (ath5k driver)
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-15~bpo50+1 Severity: normal ( lspci gives: 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01) ) I am using the ath5k driver and when I upgraded from 2.6.30 to 2.6.32 in Lenny, I got a little excited because I saw that the light was blue like when I had first purchased it when I had Windows Vista pre-installed on this laptop. For a long time I had it at orange (although it worked). (Orange means it's disabled) Sometimes, it alternates between blue and orange either at long or extremely short intervals (the occurences seem very random). I don't have Windows installed to double check but it seems rather impossible to disable it (not that I want to but I just wanted to add more to the bug report since it technically is a feature). The more important part (for me) of this bug report is that the light switches colour occasionally which could at times being distracting but as I type this, the light hasn't flickered for a pretty long time but I'm pretty confident that it will again because the intervals vary. Although the performance is not affected, Connection Information on the Gnome panel lists it as running as 1MB/s but I don't feel any slowdowns. Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: moblock Version : 1.4.3 (I think - not sure) Upstream Author : Unknown * URL : http://moblock-deb.sourceforge.net/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: Unknown Description : moblock-deb provides packages related to IP blocking software, similar to PeerGuardian: In order to protect your privacy internet traffic is blocked based on large lists of IP address ranges. The packages are MoBlock, NFBlock, blockcontrol and mobloquer. Features: blockcontrol has the following features: * Start and stop IP block daemon. Or let init do this automatically. * Update your blocklist from online sources and local blocklists. Or let cron do this automatically on a regular basis. * Remove lines by keyword from the blocklists. * Handle your iptables rules: use a default setup, easily allow all traffic on specific ports and use an allow list, or add your own sophisticated iptables rules. * Allow all LAN traffic and the DNS server automatically. If you are on a public LAN, you probably want to disable this feature. * Check the status and test the IP block daemon. * A watchdog monitors the IP block daemon and restarts blockcontrol if necessary. * Detects if kernel modules are needed and loads them if necessary. * Set verbosity and logging options. * Provides LSB 3.1 compatible init script. * Daily rotation of the logfiles. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.4 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#515567: gnome-system-monitor: This issue existed for so long and is still not solved
Package: gnome-system-monitor Version: 2.28.0-1 Severity: normal This issue still exists after so long. If you run gnome-system-monitor as root, there will be no issues but running it as root only sees root applications and even if it does see the user processed, this is a bug and gnome-system-monitor should allow regular users to increase the process priority (decrease in the numerical value). This is probably not given importance because CPUs today are more powerful but when you're running an application such as a game that uses up all of your system ressources and you want to get the most out of your CPU, this proves to be very useful. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-system-monitor depends on: ii gconf2 2.28.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.8.8-2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libgcc1 1:4.4.2-3GCC support library ii libgconf2-4 2.28.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-02.22.3-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.22.1-2 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgtk2.0-0 2.18.3-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a 1:2.18.2-1 C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.4 (shared ii libgtop2-7 2.28.0-4 gtop system monitoring library (sh ii librsvg2-2 2.26.0-1 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.18-2 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libstdc++6 4.4.2-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libwnck22 2.28.0-1 Window Navigator Construction Kit ii libxml2 2.7.6.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library Versions of packages gnome-system-monitor recommends: ii gvfs 1.4.1-6 userspace virtual filesystem - ser ii libgksu2-0 2.0.13~pre1-1 library providing su and sudo func gnome-system-monitor suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#561897: base: Regular key combinations that work in other OSes such as Ubuntu and Windows and Lenny don't work in Squeeze
Package: base Severity: normal Tags: l10n I filed a bug before that wasn't really addressed and I found a new bug so I will include the previous bug in this message as well since they're similar bugs. Previous bug: (GNOME) System -- Preferences -- Keyboard Shortcuts then when I attempt to assign either one of my super user keys to the Open a terminal window shortcut. I tried this in Ubuntu 9.10 as well (which uses GNOME 2.28 like Squeeze) and it doesn't work there either. I tried on two different computers. I tested with the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 and the 64 bit version of Debian Squeeze. New bug: In any other OS I've used, when a window is in focus and you press alt and the space bar and then press x for example you can maximize a window. Given that Ubuntu 9.10 has the same version of GNOME, I tried to see if the bug existed there as well and it didn't. If any additional information is needed, do not hesitate to ask. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#539234: closed by Holger Levsen hol...@layer-acht.org (Re: Bug#539234: base: Booting from hibernation has super slow cursor movement etc!)
The cursor movement is extremely laggish after booting after resuming from a hibernation-state only. I do not experience such behaviour in Lenny nor in Squeeze (on a regular bootup). The laggish movement does not fix itself even after waiting a significant amount of time. I also checked in System Monitor and I do not remember exactly what I saw but I remember thinking it was either no swap used or a very tiny amount. But even then, my Lenny computer has a 5400 RPM hard drive while this computer (with Squeeze) has a 7200 RPM hard drive. This is actually a bug and not some useless report this time. Continuing in the latter case could lead to data loss! giving the options Exit or Continue both of which do absolutely nothing. The first time I experienced this issue on Squeeze (previous installation on same computer - I've had to reinstall my operating system since then), I thought that I could just solve this issue by removing the config files in Mnemosyne's home directory. That solved this little error message on Lenny, Windows, and earlier on in Squeeze if I'm not mistaken. However, now, the problem does not go away and Mnemosyne doesn't even run at all! -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages mnemosyne depends on: ii python2.5.4-2An interactive high-level object-o ii python-pygame 1.8.1release-1 SDL bindings for games development ii python-qt33.17.6-2 Qt3 bindings for Python ii python-support1.0.3 automated rebuilding support for P mnemosyne recommends no packages. mnemosyne suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#533720: base: Ever since GNOME is newer than Lenny, snow-apple icon theme no longer works!
Package: base Severity: normal Lenny does not have this issue. This is not a Debian-specific issue. In fact, I think it could be a GNOME-wide issue since Ubuntu also suffers from this. Bug#530423: Lowering nice value (increasing priority) does not work and crashes gnome-system-monitor!
Package: gnome-system-monitor Version: 2.24.4-1 Severity: normal The same problem exists in Lenny but since Debian stable only receives critical bug updates then I'd at least file this for Squeeze.
