Bug#1038972: gnome-shell: Gnome Extensions turn off after logout (with errors in gjs)

2023-06-23 Thread Dmitry K
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 43.4-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,
>From time to time after I login I find that all Gnome extensions are turned
off.
This probably happens because of errors hapenning in gjs.

I have reported the issue to Dash to Dock:
https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/2050

They believe that it is caused by the issue that was fixed in Gnome 44:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/5560

If it's true, could you please back-port the fix to the version of Gnome used
in Debian bookworm?
This bug severely affects user experience.

Bug#1038670: firefox-esr: Can't set Firefox as a default mailing application

2023-06-19 Thread Dmitry K
Package: firefox-esr
Version: 102.12.0esr-1~deb12u1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch upstream
X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I have selected "Use Gmail" in Firefox Settings -> General -> Applications ->
mailto.
Then I wanted to assign Firefox as a default mailing app in Default
Applications of Gnome settings in order to launch Firefox with Gmail
automatically from external apps. However, Firefox wasn't listed among
available options for Mail.

The reason is probably in the fact that x-scheme-handler/mailto isn't listed in
MimeType field of /usr/share/applications/firefox-esr.desktop:

MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-
handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;

The man page of xdg-mime says: "The application's desktop file must list
support for all the MIME types that it wishes to be the default handler for".
So the fix might look as follows:

MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-
handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;x-scheme-handler/mailto;

As a workaround I had to assign Firefox manually via the configuration file
~/.config/mimeapps.list:
[Default Applications]
x-scheme-handler/mailto=firefox-esr.desktop

Only after this manual intervention Gnome accepted Firefox as a mail app.

Reported to Firefox Bugzilla too:

Bug#1038439: gnome-control-center: Admin password in Date & Time settings is requested prematurely

2023-06-18 Thread Dmitry K
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:43.4.1-1
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

When I open Gnome settings in a session of a user that isn't an administrator,
it requests the admin password immediately when I go to the Date & Time tab,
even before I click the Unlock button. Moreover, if I click Cancel in the
password dialog, it appears again one or two times.

It becomes even more problematic when I open the Control Center after closing
it in a state when the Date & Time tab was active. In this case it asks for the
password on its start-up. By the way, after Debian was just installed, the
first active tab in the Control Center was Date & Time and I was very surprised
when the app prompted for admin password straight ahead on the first run.

Bug#1038411: calamares: Attempt to grow a EFI partition leads to an installation failure

2023-06-17 Thread Dmitry K
Package: calamares
Severity: important
Tags: d-i
X-Debbugs-Cc: kuteyni...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I installed Debian Bookworm from a Gnome live USB stick. The installer
complained on an insufficient size of the ESP (200Mb instead of 500). To fix
this I scheduled a resize of the ESP via manual partitioning in the
installation wizard. No warnings were shown notifying me in advance that this
operation cannot be performed. As a result, when I started the installation,
the process was interrupted in the middle of file system rearrangements.

Workaround: I had to backup, manually remove, recreate the EFI partition with a
desired size and restore its content.

Expected behavior: Either add support for growing FAT32 EFI partitions, or
prevent the user to select unsupported operations before the installation
started.

Here is the output of the installer:

Grow partition ‘/dev/sdb1’ from 260.00 MiB to 515.00 MiB

Bug#610155: xdg-utils: fails to disable gnome-screensaver

Hi Pelle,

I ran the command you gave me when VLC was running. It did not stop

Here is output:

 Hi Dmitry,

Sorry for now answering earlier, I have been swamped with work.

You are right, VLC uses xdg-screensaver.

I have Mageia installed on same laptop. VLC works fine there in same
  configuration.
The differences between Mageia and Debian installations are:
-VLC is 1.1.11 in Mageia and 1.1.3 in Debian. Not a big difference I
 think.
  -Command

  xdg-screensaver status

returns enabled in Debian vs disabled in Mageia in freshly booted
  system.

So then either Mageia doesn't have a screensaver by default,
 or something else is wrong.

Now the question: why is it enabled in Debian and disabled in Mageia? I
have not found a way to disable it in Debian for a more equal test.

The command to disable it is

 xdg-screensaver suspend window-id

where window-id is an X11 window id for a window to track.
This is what VLC is supposed to do.

 Could you please try running

 sh -x /usr/bin/xdg-screensaver suspend $(xwininfo -root|grep Window id:|
 cut -d' ' -f4)

 and send me the output?

Also check if it stops the screensaver from running.

You can enable the screensaver again with

 xdg-screensaver resume $(xwininfo -root|grep Window id:| cut -d' ' -f4)

Bug#610155: xdg-utils: fails to disable gnome-screensaver

2011-10-01 Thread Dmitry K
Pelle,

I tried

gnome-screensaver-command --poke

during playback. It does not help.

I am not 100% sure about xdg-screensaver and VLC. But I tried to discuss it
at VLC forum http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13t=94579 .
I have Mageia installed on same laptop. VLC works fine there in same

-Command

xdg-screensaver status

returns enabled in Debian vs disabled in Mageia in freshly booted
system.

You see, there is high probability that xdg-screensaver is actually used by
VLC and it is xdg-screensaver to cause the issue.
Now the question: why is it enabled in Debian and disabled in Mageia? I have
not found a way to disable it in Debian for a more equal test.

 What about:

 gnome-screensaver-command --poke

I still experience same issue with VLC playing videos on full or part
screen. Screensaver is automatically called up.

But does VLC really use xdg-screensaver?

I still experience same issue with VLC playing videos on full or part

Same video in Totem movie player works fine without screensaver being
called.
