Bug#988972: kde-plasma-desktop missing systemsettings, kwin-x11 and other dependencies
Package: kde-plasma-desktop Version: 5:111 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, On a fresh install install of Bullseye the kde-plasma-desktop metapackage was installed as per information at https://wiki.debian.org/KDE kde-plasma-desktop was chosen as the most minimal option for installing KDE. However kwin-x11 is not installed which results in windows not having titlebars and borders. And systemsettings is not installed which results in there being no System Settings application to configure KDE. Other components are also missing as the following sections in systemsettings, after systemssettings was manually installed, are not working: Global Theme, Plasma Style, Colors, Icons, and Cursors. -- System Information: Debian Release: 11.0 APT prefers testing-security APT policy: (500, 'testing-security'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-6-686-pae (SMP w/4 CPU threads) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop depends on: ii kde-baseapps 4:20.12.0+5.111 ii plasma-desktop4:5.20.5-4 ii plasma-workspace 4:5.20.5-6 ii udisks2 2.9.2-2 ii upower0.99.11-2 Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop recommends: ii kwin-x11 4:5.20.5-1 ii sddm 0.19.0-3 ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+22 Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop suggests: pn kdeconnect -- no debconf information

In contrast to what I wrote earlier it appears that xserver-xorg-input-synaptics *does* need to be installed. I installed it and now xinput list-props is listing more features such as circular scrolling. I have a Thinkpad T550 and initially had a similar issue: With the stock kernel in Sid: dmesg |grep psmouse psmouse serio1: synaptics: The touchpad can support a better bus than the too old PS/2 protocol. Someone above stated that he installed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. That package has been depcrecated by xserver-xorg-input-libinput: apt-cache show xserver-xorg-input-libinput ... This package provides the driver for input devices using libinput library. It can handle keyboards, mice and touchpads, and essentially replaces the separate -evdev and -synaptics drivers.
