Bug#398856: 1.6b in svn

2007-08-17 Thread Gabriel Farrell
This wishlist bug seconded. Version 1.6b is now in SVN, and 1.6a has
been available for nearly a year. Includes a number of bug fixes, most
important to me being unicode support.

Many thanks.

Bug#457571: gnome-session: fails if gdm_socket is not in /tmp

2007-12-23 Thread Gabriel Parrondo
Subject: gnome-session: fails if gdm_socket is not in /tmp
Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.20.2-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Gnome tries to open the gdm_socket in /tmp/.gdm_socket and fails if it
can't be found. The default location in latest versions of gdm
is /var/run/gdm_socket.

There's a fix in ubuntu, see bug 83810.

Great. I'm sorry I didn't check for bugs on upstream, noted for future
problems.

Sorry about that too.
The exact problem was that nothing happened when going to
System->Logout->Switch User (maybe not that exact words, I use Spanish
version). It started happening after an upgrade; I tried logging out and
in again but nothing different. Tried with another user and again
nothing.
Today, for no apparent reason, it is all working again...

Thanks.

Bug#466790: libGL.so.1.2 hardcodes /usr/lib/dri

2008-02-20 Thread Gabriel Ebner
Package: ia32-libs
Version: 2.2
Severity: important
File: /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2

libGL.so.1.2 contains the literal path "/usr/lib/dri", which breaks 32-bit 3D
applications (as it should actually point to /usr/lib32/dri).
(Note: I'm using fglrx, so this bug might not affect standard setups.)

$ strings /emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 | grep lib/dri
/usr/lib/dri

You can reproduce this by getting the i386 mesa-utils and try running
glxgears:

# apt-get install ia32-libs
$ wget \
http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/mesa/mesa-utils_7.0.2-4_i386.deb
$ dpkg-deb -x ../mesa-utils_7.0.2-4_i386.deb .
$ ./usr/bin/glxgears
X Error of failed request: GLXBadContext
  Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
  Serial number of failed request: 25
  Current serial number in output stream: 25

As a workaround, I have replaced /usr/lib/dri with /usr/foo/dri using a hex
editor, and made /usr/foo a symlink to /usr/lib32. After that, 32-bit
glxgears runs just fine.

Bug#467353: libmozjs0d: iceweasel and epiphany hang repeatedly on many scripting-heavy pages

2008-02-24 Thread Gabriel Ytterberg
Package: libmozjs0d
Version: 1.8.1.12-2
Severity: important

After dist-upgrading sid last night (2/23) both Iceweasel and Epiphany hang
when loading
various web pages. They seem to be pages with a lot of javascript going on,
although
I'm not sure. Turning off javascript in Iceweasel seems to stop it, though.
linuxquestions.org and boardreader.com reliably cause this, gmail slightly less
reliably.

When it happens it usually loads the page as normal for a second or two and
then the window
goes unresponsive for as long as a minute. Usually it will come back and then
hang again once
or twice before the page is loaded. After that, everything functions normally
until another such
page is loaded.

Bug#467353: libmozjs0d: iceweasel and epiphany hang repeatedly on many scripting-heavy pages

2008-02-24 Thread Gabriel Ytterberg
Hmm.  Quite a bit got upgraded since I hadn't done a dist-upgrade in a
few months. Iceweasel was among the upgrades. I'm not sure if/where
there is a record of what got upgraded when.

Also I noticed, turning off javascript doesn't entirely fix the
hanging. It does for most sites, but a few I've noticed still hang,
like cyclingnews.com for example.

Okay. I have just tried another box with an r200 chip (and the free radeon
drivers). 32-bit glxgears runs fine there, although without DRI.

At least with this r200 card, 32-bit apps *could* use DRI out of the box, it's
just a matter of changing the /usr/lib/dri path to /usr/lib32/dri (or
equivalent).

> Anyway, that path is hard coded. Modifying DRI_DRIVER_SEARCH_DIR in mesa

Hmmm, interesting. Are you saying that libGL is currently configured *not* to
use DRI? If so, that doesn't work: 32-bit glxgears definitely does try to
load some shared objects from /usr/lib/dri:

$ strace ./32-bit/glxgears 2>&1 | grep /dri/
open("/usr/lib/dri/r200_dri.so", O_RDONLY) = 4

> I've already fixed ia32-libgl1-mesa-glx in my repository, in case you

Don't worry. As I've said, I've got a running workaround. As for fglrx, I
have manually copied the i386 fglrx-driver to /usr/lib32; I'll probably report
a bug against fglrx-driver later for not including them.

Currently, the gate length, the characteristic length parameter in transistors,
has hit about 90 nm. The shorter the gate length, the faster transistors can
switch on and off. In fact, the transistors have gotten so fast, that the delay
as electrons flow through the skinnier and longer wires needed to cross larger,
complex chips is on track to become the limiting factora in speed. This delay
is just one of the fundamental problems that threatens to make the nanoscale
regime of electronics unfaithful to Moore's Law and demands the design of new
materials and structures or a complete shift in chip architecture.

Bug#446930: ferm starts _after_ network services

2007-10-16 Thread Gabriel Ebner
Package: ferm
Version: 1.2.5-1
Severity: wishlist

Currently, the ferm initscript starts (by default) after networking is enabled
and several services (e.g. CUPS and MySQL here) are started.

This opens a security hole of several seconds, during which an attacker can
connect to these services, and (in the default configuration) even maintain
this connection. This sort of defeats the purpose of a firewall (this depends
on the configuration, but it holds for the default one).

Therefore it would be good if ferm could be changed to start before networking
is enabled.

Bug#515905: gdm starts with the wrong keymap

2009-02-18 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.7-5
Severity: important

Hi,

Since lenny was released and I upgraded my system with the new sid
packages, I face an important bug in GDM. At system startup, gdm is
launched with a qwerty keymap. But the only locale installed on my
system is fr_FR.UTF-8 and Xorg is configured to use "fr" as the default
keymap.

A few details:
- apart from the keymap, the rest of the interface is correctly
  localized, so it seems to be more a problem of the weird things done
  with setxkbmap in /etc/gdm/Init/Default than a problem of locale.
- by default, the selected locale is "last locale used". If I select
  either "French" or "System default", the keymap is changed to "fr"
  immediately. Even if I select "last language used" once again beyond
  this point, the keymap remains in "fr".
- if do not touch the locale selection menu and login using the qwerty
  keymap, the keymap is then correctly set to "fr" in my session.
  Moreover, in both cases, when I logout, the keymap stays in "fr".

Well, this is annoying but I'm describing an easy workaround, so why
tagging this as "important"? Because this bug does indeed render the
system unusable for some users. Namely, when:
- gdm is configured with a login browser,
- the user chooses its login name by clicking on it,
- then its password is rejected.
In that (real-life) example, the user has no clue what's going on
(remember, the interface is still in French). And gdm with a login
browser in designed for such (possibly unexperienced) users who will
then be locked out of the system.

So please, fix this bug to save my grand-mother ;-)

Gabriel Kerneis

Bug#518117: foomatic-filters: foomatic-rip segfaults with Brother HL-2070N

2009-03-04 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: foomatic-filters
Version: 4.0-20090301-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I have a Brother HL-2070N on my network. It's installed on my computer
with the Foomatic hl1250 driver, which is the recommended one. It used
to work fine until I upgraded to foomatic-filters 4.0.

/var/log/syslog says:
  Mar  4 09:32:06 hokahe kernel: [ 5336.864642] foomatic-rip[18281]: segfault
at ip 40fe5a sp 76658160 error 4 in
foomatic-rip[40+17000]

It might be important to notice that installing the proprietary drivers
for the HL-2070N causes a segfault too (in Brother's rawtobr2 binary).

I also have a Brother DCP-350C (usb) using proprietary drivers which
works still fine, and I purged /etc/cups/ppd.

Downgrading foomatic-filters to 3.0.2 solves the problem (with both
drivers).

# cat /var/log/cups/error_log

E [04/Mar/2009:08:52:53 +0100] PID 17058 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip)
stopped with status 3!
E [04/Mar/2009:08:52:58 +0100] [Job 32] Job stopped due to filter errors.

I've also reproduced this bug on an x86 architecture (with the same
network printer, and both drivers).

Regards,
   Gabriel Kerneis

I thought removing everything in /etc/cups/ppd and then reseting the

I have a very faint understanding of foomatic. How can I check the
version of a driver?

The HL-2070N is not supported by openprinting, but using the hl1250
driver used to work quite well. One more time, I'm a bit lost: do you
mean the hl1250 driver bundled with Debian is deprecated and I should
get the latest one upstream?

I'll try that and let you know. I'm also in touch with Brother's
technical support.

Thanks for your help,

Bug#518117: [No:003492] Bug#518117: Bug#518362: foomatic-filters: /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip stopped with status 3!

I did a lot of testing and here is what works and what doesn't:

* Using the "Brother HL-2060 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.3" driver works
  perfectly well! I tried it because it was selected by default when I
  reinstalled the printer.
* Using the "Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/hl1250 (recommended)" driver fails
  with a segfault of foomatic, as reported previously. Files related:
  hl1250.ppd and debug (from /var/log/cups/error_log).
* Using the propietary driver from Brother fails silently (no segfault,
  the task is reported to work and the printer seems to "wake up" but
  doesn't print anything). Files related: HL2070N-prop.ppd and
  debug-prop.

This applies to Debian Sid x86_64 updated this morning. I'll try on x86
in the next few days and let you know.

The following Ubuntu bug report seems related, by the way:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/foomatic-filters/+bug/321164
It includes a patch that I didn't try.

Bug#480319: lighttpd doesn't show docs directory like it says it will

2009-01-21 Thread Gabriel Corona

> The solution in etch is to replace the string "remoteip"
> with "host" in the file lighttpd.conf

Hmm no. This "host" option is related to virtual hosting.
Any host on the internet could access your "private"
/doc/ and /images/ (and whatever you might like
to add there ...). Not so good :/

If the problem come after enabling IPv6 in lighttpd,
the solution is :
$HTTP["remoteip"] =~ "127.0.0.1" { ... }
(it's fixed in 1.4.19-2).

Bug#512583: /doc/ and /images/ not accessible via IPv6 address

2009-01-21 Thread Gabriel Corona

Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.19-5

In the lighhtpd.conf, the following lines :
$HTTP["remoteip"] =~ "127.0.0.1" {
...
}
provide /doc/ and /images/ when accessing the server via 127.0.0.1
even if IPv6 is enabled.

Though, when accessing http://localhost/ the IPv6 address for localhost
(::1) can be used : In this case the the regexp won't match.

Should'nt there be (for example) :
HTTP["remoteip"] =~ "127.0.0.1$|^::1$" {
...
}
?

In fact it should be something like :

HTTP["remoteip"] =~ "^127\.0\.0\.1$|^::(1|127\.0\.0\.1)$" {

}

Otherwise some IPs (like 2001::127:0:0:1:0) will match..

loop should be compiled as a module so loop-aes could be used. It's very
annoying because on x86/x64 platforms this is the default.

Bug#516743: libxcomposite-dev ought to depend on libxext-dev

2009-02-23 Thread Gabriel Schulhof
Package: libxcomposite-dev
Version: 0.4.0-1

Error message:
checking for HILDON_WELCOME_DEPS... configure: error: Package
requirements (
  x11
  gstreamer-0.10 >= 0.10.0
  gstreamer-interfaces-0.10 >= 0.10.0
  gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10 >= 0.10.0
  xcomposite
  dbus-1
  mce

  ) were not met:

Package xext was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xext.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'xext', required by 'Xcomposite', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables HILDON_WELCOME_DEPS_CFLAGS
and HILDON_WELCOME_DEPS_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

What I did:
I have a package (hildon-welcome) which depends on libxcomposite-dev,
because in its configure.ac it has

PKG_CHECK_MODULES(HILDON_WELCOME_DEPS,
  [
  x11
  gstreamer-0.10 >= 0.10.0
  gstreamer-interfaces-0.10 >= 0.10.0
  gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10 >= 0.10.0
  xcomposite
  $DBUS_PACKAGE
  $MCE_PACKAGE
  $MAEMO_LAUNCHER_PACKAGE
  ])

However, when I attempt to build this package, it fails during configure
with the above error message. The reason for this is that
libxcomposite-dev, which provides /usr/lib/pkgconfig/xcomposite.pc does
not depend on libxext-dev, which provides /usr/lib/pkgconfig/xext.pc.

Looking at the contents of /usr/lib/pkgconfig/xcomposite.pc we see this:
prefix=/usr
exec_prefix=${prefix}
libdir=${exec_prefix}/lib
includedir=${prefix}/include

Name: Xcomposite
Description: X Composite  Library
Version: 0.4.0
Requires: xproto compositeproto >= 0.4 xfixes
Requires.private: x11 xfixes xext
Cflags: -I${includedir}
Libs: -L${libdir} -lXcomposite

Indeed, this file refers to "xext" as part of the "Requires.private"
field. Thus, libxcomposite-dev should depend on libxext-dev.

Bug#517382: dirvish: rsync-option parameter name not stripped off in rsync call

2009-02-27 Thread Mike Gabriel
Package: dirvish
Version: 1.2.1-1.1
Severity: minor

when using the ,,rsync-option'' paramter in /etc/dirvish/master.conf or
in any vault's default.conf the option is included in the rsync command
call string but the parameter name ,,rsync-option'' is not stripped off
and also added to the rsync command call...

EXAMPLE...

in master.conf, for example:

[...]
rsync-option: --acls
rsync-option: --xattrs
[...]

results in:
rsync [...options...] rsync-option: --acls rsync-option: --xattrs [...more
options and paths...]

should be:
rsync [...options...] --acls --xattrs [...more options and paths...]

Whenever I am trying to use an application linked to libqt4 it fails
with a missing symbol error.
Example:

$ qtconfig-qt4
qtconfig-qt4: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQtNetwork.so.4: undefined
symbol: _ZN14QObjectPrivate15checkWindowRoleEv

this works also for the other libqt4 packages

Bug#465976: python-paramiko: syntax warning on decorators when compiling with python2.3

2008-02-15 Thread Gabriel Farrell
Package: python-paramiko
Version: 1.7.2-0.1
Severity: normal

When compiling with python2.3, I get the following error:

INFO: using old version '/usr/bin/python2.3'

I don't know if this affects the functionality of paramiko (are both
decorators and non-decorator syntax in this file?), and it will
go away once python2.3 goes away, so maybe it's not worth fixing.

Bug#530784: partman-crypto: preseeding of the dm-crypt passphrase failed

2009-05-28 Thread Gabriel Sailer
Many thanks for this Information.
If i rebuild the udeb package and i delete the two "db_fset ..." lines
should the preseeding work for the passphrase?

The background is we have to deliver preinstalled laptops. They must
have crypted partitions (protection of the data when loosing one of
them). After delivering the laptops and before working, the user
_must_ set his own passphrase and _must_ delete the "installation
passphrase".
I haven't found an other solution to use dm-crypt on nearly the full
disk (it is not possible to crypt the partitions after the installation).

respectfully

Gabriel

Did you mean this part:
"and the Debian cron script namespace (^[a-z0-9][a-z0-9-]*$)"?
Because this is already incorrect.

I really can patch an re-compile the package myself but I think this bug
is related to this one:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=260789

So... I think is not a big deal to patch the man file too.

Bug#530784: partman-crypto: preseeding of the dm-crypt passphrase failed

2009-07-13 Thread Gabriel Sailer
Hello,
yes you're right. My patch is a quick hack and not good enought for the
debian distribution ...
I will try to rewrite it for better handle the multi crypted partitions.

A question for that. Is it possible do get a true or false value
without any user input in the debian-installer?
I think like

...
if [ preseed_${partition} eq false ]
  set passphrase_${partition} ""
  ...
fi

get passphrase_${partition}
set preseed_${partition} to false
...

So if no preseeding is wanted for this the behavour is the same as
befor. Otherwise the passphrase is read once and deleted afterwards
if an error occured and the script is called a second time for the
same partition.
But i don't want a question for the user about preseeding the
passphrase. It makes no sense to it.

Respectfully

Gabriel Sailer

Bug#485757: pulseaudio: module-suspend-on-idle is disabled, which prevents CPU from going idle

2008-06-11 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.10-2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

as reported here [http://www.pulseaudio.org/ticket/114], pulseaudio
wakes up the audio hardware a lot, even when idle, which prevents the
CPU from entering C3/C4 state, thus killing battery life.

The module module-suspend-on-idle solves the problem (at least when no
sound is played).

Please, could you add:

load-module module-suspend-on-idle

to /etc/pulse/default.pa.

If you don't want to enable it by default, I strongly suggest that you
add it (commented out) with an explicit comment stating that it can save
a lot of battery life.

Regards,
    Gabriel

Bug#485873: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686: fails to suspend to ram (hangs when "Suspending console(s)")

2008-06-11 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686
Version: 2.6.25-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

* steps to reproduce:
- start the computer (Thinkpad T42)
- login (console mode)
- sudo s2ram

* result:
the screen becomes black, then displays 3 lines, the last one being:

Suspending console(s)

It hangs at this point. I can switch to the consoles (Alt+F1...F6). I
can type things in the first console (I get a blinking cursor), nothing
in the others, and none of them reacts. Once I've switched to one of the
consoles, I can't go back to the "Suspending console(s)" screen.

My logs are empty. I have to hard-reboot the computer. It definitely
hangs *before* suspending (so this is not a problem of "can't wakeup"
but rather something like "can't suspend").

FWIW, suspend-to-ram works fine with linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 on my
computer. Sadly, I can't figure out exactly when it stopped working.

I'm willing to investigate this issue further but I don't have any idea
of what I could try. Could you provide me some hints?

Regards,
  Gabriel

Bug#406380: External RSS application not launching

2008-08-13 Thread Gabriel Corona

"Edit/Preferences/Feeds/Subscribe to the feed using"

I don't actually see this preference anymore in Iceweasel 3.0.1. Is
this still a problem?

The option for choosing the feed application has moved to
"Edit/Preferences/Applications/Web feed".

It's working well for adding the feed in Iceweasel
but if you want to call an external application
(for example I'm using a script to add the feed to akregator,
but you can just use xterm for testing purpose)
it is failing silently if you don't have iceweasel-gnome-plugin
installed (nothing happens, without any error message,
and without any clue to the fact that this package
is missing for the feature to work).

It tried for other file types and the application get called
without the iceweasel-gnome-plugin package.

Bug#491270: pulseaudio: PulseAudio freezes the boot process in some situations

2008-07-17 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.10-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hi,

in the following situation, pulseaudio freezes the boot process:
- pulseaudio system start enabled (in /etc/default/pulseaudio)
- some bad permissions in the /dev directory (due to bug #491114 in my case).

In my case, the error message was:
Jul 18 07:22:56 tatanka pulseaudio[2715]: main.c:
  setrlimit(RLIMIT_NICE, (31, 31)) failed: Operation not permitted
Jul 18 07:22:56 tatanka pulseaudio[2715]: main.c:
  setrlimit(RLIMIT_RTPRIO, (9, 9)) failed: Operation not permitted

In understand that the origin of the bug doesn't lie in pulseaudio, and that
is has been fixed already (see #491114). But, whatever causes pulseaudio to
fail its startup, I think it shouldn't freeze the whole boot process, but
rather die gracefully.

Kind regards,
        Gabriel Kerneis

It could timeout, so that the rest of the system can finish its startup. In
fact, it might already timeout: I waited some time but maybe not enough, and
didn't check the source code.

Because everything under /dev was 660 instead of 666 (belonging to root).
But you made me realize that it might as well have been the case that the
devices did not even exist (#491114 messed up *many* things).

I don't see why a device that do not exist at all should be treated
differently from a device that you can't open because of bad permissions.

Then again, I might be wrong on the real origin of the problem. If this the
case, please forgive me and close this bug report. But seeing pulseaudio
hanging on startup and blocking the whole system (for whatever reason) didn't
seem the "right thing" to me — unless it times out and I wasn't patient
enough.

Thank you for your quick reply anyway.

I found the bug thanks to strace: it loops for ever with

open("/dev/urandom",O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

I guess it comes from src/pulsecore/random.c, line 64:

/* $Id: random.c 1971 2007-10-28 19:13:50Z lennart $ */

[snip - device = "/dev/urandom"]

while (*device) {
ret = 0;

if ((fd = open(*device, O_RDONLY)) >= 0) {

if ((r = pa_loop_read(fd, ret_data, length, NULL)) < 0 || (size_t) r !=
length)
ret = -1;

pa_close(fd);
} else
ret = -1;

if (ret == 0)
break;
}

It can't open /dev/urandom (because of wrong file permission) and thus never
gets out of the while loop. I think it would be safer to exit (with a failure
code) when /dev/urandom is not available.

Kind regards,

* Package name: php-auth-radius
  Version : 1.0.6
  Upstream Author : Michael Bretterklieber <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://pear.php.net/package/Auth_RADIUS/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: PHP
  Depends : php5-radius
  Description : PHP PEAR AUTH wrapper-classes for the RADIUS PECL.
.
This package provides PHP PEAR AUTH wrapper-classes for the
RADIUS PECL.
There are different Classes for the different
authentication methods.
If you are using CHAP-MD5 or MS-CHAP you need also the
Crypt_CHAP package.
If you are using MS-CHAP you need also the mhash and mcrypt
extension.

php-auth provides Auth/Container/RADIUS.php for RADIUS
authentication support. However, Auth/Container/RADIUS.php
requires Auth/RADIUS.php, which is not included in php-auth.
There is an extra pear package Auth_RADIUS which does the
job for pear.

Therefore, we suggest to create a new package php-auth-radius
from PEAR Auth_RADIUS, basically consisting of Auth/RADIUS.php
and a dependency to php5-radius. In addition, the new package
could be recommended by php-auth.

Bug#489263: python-setuptools: Unable to handle subversion 1.5 .svn/entries

2008-07-11 Thread Gabriel Farrell
The patch at http://bugs.python.org/issue2770 fixes the issue by looking
for files that start with '9' as well as '8', though I imagine sdist.py
should import the log function since it references it. Silly setuptools.

Bug#448832: txt2tags: Invalid blockquote with xhtml output

2007-11-01 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: txt2tags
Version: 2.3-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

txt2tags fails to produce valid xhtml output in blockquote mode:

$ txt2tags -t xhtml -H -i - -o -

invalid quotation

invalid quotation

should be:

quotation

Please note that this is *unrelated* with the known problem described at the
begining
of /usr/bin/txt2tags:
#XXX Paragraph separation not valid inside Quote
# Quote will not have inside, instead will close and open
# again the . This really sux in CSS, when defining a
# diferent background color. Still don't know how to fix it.

Here is a fix for the problem I'm describing (NOT fixing the paragraph
separation bug):

/usr/bin/txt2tags, line 634 (and following) becomes:
   'img' : '',
   'blockQuoteOpen'  : ''   ,
   'blockQuoteClose' : ''

},

Once this patch has been applied:
$ txt2tags -t xhtml -H -i - -o -

valid quotation

valid quotation

One could fix it a few lines above instead, in the html part (I don't know if
 without is valid html). It's a very annoying bug (although
quite easy
to fix) because txt2tags produces otherwise nice valid xhtml (AFAICT).

Regards,
Gabriel Kerneis

Bug#458525: Problem with default card when cx88_alsa module is used

2008-01-01 Thread Gabriel Mainberger

Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.15-3
Severity: minor

In the modprobe file from the alsa-base /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, is an
option configured to ensure that the snd-cx88_alsa module is not
grabbing the index 0. But this is not working, because the module was
renamed.

I have changed:

options snd-cx88_alsa index=-2

to

options cx88_alsa index=-2

See also this Ubuntu Bug:

Bug#508057: nss-updatedb problem with libs

2008-12-07 Thread Gabriel Ruiz

Package: nss-updatedb
Version: 10-1
Severity: wishlist
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: origin-ubuntu jaunty ubuntu-patch

Hi,

I found this bug in ubuntu, here is the link to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/nss-updatedb/+bug/302339

The "error" was that nss-updatedb needs of libpam-ldap and libnss-ldap
if you want to work fine with a tool designed for working with these
libs. I'll send it to you like an attachment, because the debdiff file
added more information to the changes that i did.

KInd regards

You can already use "domain (ip ip6)". Ferm will then pass the rules to both
iptables and ip6tables.  E.g.:

domain (ip ip6) table filter {
  chain INPUT proto tcp dport ssh ACCEPT;
  chain FORWARD policy DROP;
  # ...
}

Bug#546822: update of grub-pc daisychained from -legacy boots into -pc

2009-10-09 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: grub-pc
Severity: normal

Hi,

> If it was presented to you, was there something misleading about it?

What I find misleading is that a dummy user might think:

"well, until now Debian folks have been very cautious with the grub
upgrade: there is the chainload stuff and it requires me to explicitely
use upgrade-grub-legacy, so they couldn't break everything without an
extra-big-red-bold-letters warning, could they? what they ask in this
dialog is probably the drives where the chainload should take place,
isn't it? or maybe this is some configuration file that is being set-up,
but it cannot have any effect on my system as long as I did not run that
silly upgrade-grub-legacy..."

I am that dummy user who just lost an afternoon with SystemRescue CD to
restore grub-legacy, and a co-worker would have made the same mistake if
I hadn't stopped him, so trust me: a big warning would be more than
welcome.

[One might argue that dummy users should not use unstable, of course.]

Bug#898414: Please switch to using Ayatana AppIndicator for system tray icon

Thank you for the patch of Telegram Desktop for Ayatana Indicators.

It makes sense to leave loading of the old Ubuntu AppIndicator for

I think we could try to load libayatana-appindicator, and then, in case

Sounds good. Patch looks ok. Thanks for taking your time on this.

Now it is not SIGSEVing for me anymore as well, but I cannot connect
to the server, possibly an unrelated issue.

I never used this feature before, so I don't know if my setup is to
blame. I'd better wait for other users that have been using the

Dear Mike, Aron, debian-input-method team members and mentors,

As a continuation of dealing with massive RC bugs caused by IME team
maintainer
address migration, I have prepared a team upload for package
"libgooglepinyin"
and I am looking for a sponsor to push it into unstable. Besides, I
am looking

for a DD to help importing the packaging git repository onto Salsa from my
temporary repo and grant me (hosiet-guest) the Master role so that previous
packaging commits could be pushed and maintained there.

Transition is not needed since it is merely a rebuild. Its sole reverse
dependency, fcitx-googlepinyin, will be handled by me and uploaded very soon.

Package "libgooglepinyin" is indeed a dead project (hosted on Google Code w/o
migration efforts) but it does provides important features for East
Asian users

and is worthwhile to be kept inside Debian in the foreseeable future.

* Package name : libgooglepinyin
   Version : 0.1.2-4
   Upstream Author : Weng Xuetian
 * URL : https://code.google.com/archive/p/libgooglepinyin/
 * License : Apache-2.0

  It builds those binary packages:

libgooglepinyin0 - Pinyin engine fork from Google Pinyin on Android
libgooglepinyin0-dev - Pinyin engine fork from Google Pinyin on

Put on my list for tomorrow.

Hi,

When profiling any program that uses libjpeg-turbo, there's a proliferation

Bug#979049: marco: debian/rules do not clean source tree

Dear Maintainer,

After the following commands run in an package tree dpkg-source sees source
modifications.

export DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="parallel=4"
debian/rules build
debian/rules clean

Full difference between unpacked directory and after built & clean
is attached.

It was obtained with `diff -U3 -r`.

The bug has serious severity level because of volition "must" clause
in §4.9 of

Debian Policy Manual.

clean (required)

This must undo any effects that the build and binary targets may
have had ...

However, the bug has no impact on end users so I think in the future its
severity may be lowered to minor.

Currently, it is not release critical if packages don't build and
clean up afterwards in an idempotent way. Although, it is something
nice-to-have.

Thus, lowering severity immediately to minor.

It seems that I have the same bug since today's reboot.
See the attached screenshot.
Moreover, I can't stop redshift. I close the window and it comes back.
I can't stop it, even killing it makes the fatal window come back again.
redshift uses 100% of a processor.

I can confirm this. After upgrading geoclue-2.0 from 2.5.6-1 to
2.5.7-2, gtk-redshift is broken (again).

For some days now, redshift is unusable, thus bumping severity to
grave again. Also, the upstream activity of redshift is suboptimal.
Many open PRs, last activity dates back to summer 2020. :-(

@Nicolas: with this bash one liner you can kill the redshift process,
if it stubbornly relaunches all the time:

user@host#:~ kill -9 `ps aux | grep redshift | grep -v grep | awk '{

Also in my case I found useful to remove
~/.config/autostart/redshift-gtk.desktop and to disable the service in
systemd which (according to pstree) was responsible for launching it:
$ systemctl --user disable redshift
$ systemctl --user disable redshift-gtk

ShellSpec is a full-featured BDD unit testing framework for dash, bash, ksh,

coverage, mocking, parameterized test, parallel execution and more. It was
developed as a dev/test tool for cross-platform shell scripts and shell script

Hi,

We build on ppc64el in Ubuntu with -O3 enabled, and there is a symbol
mismatch for lomiri-api. [1]

Do you enable -O3 build daemon wide? Or via debian/rules?

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

  * Mark two symbols as optional to fix build with -O3 on ppc64el.

Thanks for considering the patch.

If I added your patch, I presume I would break building on ppc64el in
Debian (which looks ok):

https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=lomiri-api&suite=sid

Thus, I am inclined to tag this bug with "wontfix" and close it. Any
other idea (some vendor hacking in debian/rules, for example)?

This library seems unmaintained: last commit 4 years ago. I don't think
it's a good thing to upload such library in Debian.

I am aware of this. Rather than sneaking in the code (it is bundled in
OpenBoard upstream's Git repo), I'd prefer to ship
jquery-i18n-properties it a separate package in Debian.

During the Debian 12 release cycle I will need to bring up the topic
of many many old and unmaintained Javascript / jQuery dependencies /
bundled code portions in OpenBoard. I hope to get OpenBoard upstream
to a point that they either take over those Javascript projects and
maintain them or that they drop the dependencies.

For the meantime, I'll be happy to keep jquery-i18n-properties
up-to-date in Debian as pseudo-upstream. (I could also fork the
upstream Git repo on Github, but for now, I'd prefer to use the
existing Github repo as upstream).

Mike

Are those systray applets xembed based or appindicator based. If the latter,
make sure you have no other SNI provider running. Esp. make sure there is no
process named indicator-applicaton running. However, make sure that you have
ayatana-indicator-application running.

Reporting this issue via BTS is ok, as it probably also affects testing.

Bug#906026: Switch to Ayatana Indicators

2018-08-13 Thread Mike Gabriel

Package: lightdm-gtk-greeter
Version: 2.0.5-1

Usertags: ayatanaindicators
X-Debbugs-Cc: smd.seanda...@gmail.com, robert.anc...@canonical.com

Dear maintainers of the LightDM GTK Greeter,

please find attached a .debdiff that switches Indicator support in
LightDM GTK Greeter to Ayatana Indicators.

A small team is currently driving forward the development of a project
called Ayatana Indicators. This project has been derived from the
Indicator approach we have seen in Ubuntu now for a while.

Unfortunately, the Ubuntu Indicators are limited to the Ubuntu
distribution, only. With Ayatana Indicators, we are currently
undertaking an effort to make Indicators more portable and usable on
all Linux and non-Linux-but-*nix desktops.

The attached .debdiff provides the required changes to switch over to
Ayatana Indicators (quoting myself from debian/changelog):

```
lightdm-gtk-greeter (2.0.5-1.1) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium
  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * debian/patches:
+ Add ayatana-indicators.patch. Build against Ayatana Indicators
rather than
  deprecated Ubuntu Indicators.
  * debian/rules:
+ Use autogen.sh for autotools reconfiguration.
 -- Mike Gabriel   Mon, 13 Aug 2018
12:57:34 +0200
```

Please consider applying my changes to the package. I have Cc:ed
Robert Ancell and Sean Davis, two of the upstream maintainers.

Thanks for your time!

Mike

Some more comments on the patch shipped with this bug report:

  * the patch likely fixes #904136

  * the patch does not yet address the startup of those indicators
 found on the running system, for XDG compliant desktops,
 we currently use /etc/xdg/autostart, for greeters, we should either
 launch the indicator service via a ayatana-indicator-services target

For the second bit, I'll likely come up with another bug report, once
the issue has been addressed at Ayatana Indicators upstream.

Bug#906043: Please prefer Ayatana AppIndicator

2018-08-13 Thread Mike Gabriel

Package: kupfer
Version: _0+v319-3
Severity: wishlist
User: pkg-ayatana-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: ayatana-appindicator

Dear maintainer of kupfer,

find attached a .debdiff that prefers Ayatana AppIndicator support
over Ubuntu's AppIndicator support for displaying the system tray icon
when in AppIndicator mode (see preferences).

This contribution is part of the Ayatana Indicators shift in Debian.

For more info, see
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2018/03/msg00506.html

IMPORTANT: The .debdiff lacks a small step that needs to be done manually...

mkdir -p debian/hicolor/16x16/apps/
convert -scale 16x16 auxdata/hicolor/128x128/apps/kupfer.png
debian/hicolor/16x16/apps/kupfer.png

The convert command can be found in the imagemagick package.

Thanks,

Bug#906046: Please switch to Ayatana AppIndicator

2018-08-13 Thread Mike Gabriel

Package: guake-indicator
Version: 1.1-2
Severity: wishlist
User: pkg-ayatana-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: ayatana-appindicator

Dear maintainer of guake-indicator,

Please switch your package to Ayatana AppIndicator. I was about to
work on a patch for that shift, but this package seems in an
unmaintained state and the packaging and the upstream code feel
awkward (configure.ac looks nasty, wants GTK-2, debian/control has a
B-D for GTK-3, etc.).

Please let me know, if you plan to continue maintenance of this
package in the future, please give it some love. If you need help with
working on a patch for building against Ayatana AppIndicator, please
let me know.

For more info, see
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2018/03/msg00506.html

Thanks+Greets,
Mike

Would it help if you had xfce4-indicator-plugin from testing in
stretch-backports.

Another approach would be to investigate, why
ayatana-indicator-application gets pulled in.

Greets,
Mike
