Bug#995683: ITS: latexmk
Hi Norbert, hier geht es nur um den Maintainer des Debian-Packages, richtig? Mit dem Autor von latexmk, John Collins, war ich erst Ende August in Kontakt; der pflegt sein Programm noch. Bug#450665: mlock: Please raise severity to serious or grave, or fix the bug
Package: mlock Version: 7:2007b~dfsg-4+lenny3 Followup-For: Bug #450665 The bug is still present on standard Debian Lenny installations with uw-imapd 7:2007b~dfsg-4+lenny3 ipopd 7:2007b~dfsg-4+lenny3 mlock 7:2007b~dfsg-4+lenny3 I suggest to raise the severity of this bug to "serious" or "grave" since failing to lock the mailbox properly may destroy mail. Alternatively, consider fixing the bug, either by compiling imapd and ipop with the correct path of mlock, or by installing mlock with a symbolic link /usr/sbin/mlock --> /usr/bin/mlock Summary of the problem (see also the other reports): imapd/ipop3d is installed sgid mail, but when accessing a mailbox, it has assumed the identity of the user. Therefore dropping a lock file in /var/mail fails (Mailbox vulnerable - directory /var/mail must have 1777 protection), since according to Debian policy, /var/mail has permission drwxrwsr-x, owner root.mail. So imapd/ipop3d falls back to mlock. However, mlock is installed in /usr/bin, whereas the path compiled in in imapd/ipop3d is /usr/sbin. As a work around, one can add the link /usr/sbin/mlock --> /usr/bin/mlock manually, but fixing the bug should be easy. This would also close bug #499189 of ipopd Thanks, Gernot -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.2 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_IE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_IE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages mlock depends on: ii libc6 2.9-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries mlock recommends no packages. mlock suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#504104: xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Emulate3Buttons stops working from time to time
Package: xserver-xorg-input-mouse Version: 1:1.3.0-1 Severity: normal Every now and then (approx. once a day) the "Emulate3Buttons" feature stops working such that pressing left and right button simultaneously becomes equivalent to pressing the right button alone. In particular, pasting with left+right doesn't work anymore. However, pressing the wheel (=middle button) still gives the desired effect. Restarting the X server solves the problem temporarily. Other people seem to observe the same behaviour, but attribute it to specific X applications, see e.g. #478478: "gnome-terminal: copy/paste using the middle mouse button is broken." Bug#478478: another "me too ..."
I observe the same problem as described by Sven and Francecso. Every now and then (maybe once a day) my mouse looses its "Emulate3Buttons" ability; pressing the wheel as third button still works. Restarting the X server solves the problem temporarily. I don't think that (in my case) the problem is connected with any particular X application: when the problem occurs, pasting with left+right button fails with any application. Bug#489141: xserver-xorg: X server sometimes refuses local xclients to connect
Hi, I want to confirm that I'm experiencing the same problem after a fresh lenny install: Occasionally, for an interval of about a minute the xserver seems to block new connections. X applications started during this time return messages like $ xterm No protocol specified xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0 The same for iceweasel, xcalc etc. Michael noted that accessing .Xauthority (rather, the home directory) with ls solves the problem immediately. Might some NFS-related delays be part of the problem? At least in my case the home directory is on an nfs-mount. Bug#473568: exmh: Bad font selection: Fonts much too big/wide
Package: exmh Version: 1:2.7.2-13 Severity: important Since a recent routine update of the packages, exmh uses extremely wide and big fonts for labeling buttons, for the list of headers, and for the mail text itself, rendering the tool effectively unusable. I guess that this problem is not entirely a problem of exmh, but maybe lies in the interaction with X. However, I observed this phenomenon exclusively with exmh; everything else is still fine. And my attempts to change the fonts from within exmh were also futile. Local configuration files are not the culprit: the problem persists with a test user having no dot-files in the home directory. On Debian Etch with exmh 2.7.2-9 (same exmh, different package version) there is no such problem. I suppose he meant 00tetex.cnf, so any stupidity is my fault, not his. Since I had no 00tetex.cnf and I wasn't sure which file Norbert meant, I moved 00tex.cnf away, ran update-fmtutil, and then moved 00tex.cnf back. Just to make sure that this doesn't solve the problem. So no harm done by this check. > First of all, you need a 00tex.cnf. Thanks, very kind of you. > I attach one. As a user I have no idea to which settings the setup program is referring, and of course I want to keep my formats. If you see a message like this, then you assume that the installation is aware of the installed formats and programs and will upgrade them, but you wouldn't expect that the installation procedure takes an old configuration file and tries to build the formats regardless of whether the programs/formats are installed or not. > So this part of the bug seems to be not a bug, but a particular local > configuration. You can safely delete 99postinst.cnf, after that texlive > should configure fine. In my opinion it is a bug of tetex to leave a configuration file behind that refers to non-installed programs (the list of formats is no user setting but internal bookkeeping), and it is a bug of texlive (at least of its transition capabilities) to pay attention to this file. I'm not sure whether there is an easy way to avoid this trap without breaking something else, but I'm sure that there will be more people like me having an old 99postinst.cnf: In my case, I never wanted to install tetex, neither on woody nor on sarge. But because of dependencies, some tetex-packages were installed nevertheless, and then afterwards deleted and even purged by me, but this file remained. So perhaps texlive installation should try to cope with this particular situation, e.g. by renaming or deleting 99postinst.sh (with some heuristic checks of the contents). Bug#382861: Updating Sarge teTeX to etch/sid TeX live ... help
I followed Norbert's/Frank's advice and purged all tetex packages. There were remnants of four: tetex-base tetex-bin tetex-doc tetex-extra all version 3.0 However, after purging the problem with installing [EMAIL PROTECTED] remained the same. Norbert suggested to delete /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf and run update-fmtutil: update-fmtutil: cannot read /etc/texmf/fmt.d/00tex.cnf So it seems I have to wait for further suggestions or texlive versions before installation succeeds. Bug#388481: jpilot: Address book always sorts by company first, no matter what the title bar says
Package: jpilot Version: 0.99.9-1 Severity: normal The address book is always sorted by company first and name second. Hi, portreserve/portrelease [1] seems to solve the problem. Why not add portreserve to future Debian releases together with appropriate modifications to all packages containing programs depending on fixed ports? See also the discussion on Bugzilla [2].
