Thanks Hilmar, I tested the packages and:

1. A raw IPv6 address raises `ValueError` as it tries to parse the part after
   the 1st colon as a port.

2. A bracketed IPv6 works just fine.

3. A bracketed IPv6 plus `:PORT_NUMBER` raises `TypeError` in
   psshlib/task.py:40 as it tries to join the host string to the integer port.

So I'd say that the original issue is fixed as per point 2, but using an
alternative port will fail as per point 3 (though that wasn't part of the
issue).

I updated packages a few days ago (I'm using `network-manager-gnome` version
1.24.0-2 now) and I just checked that all the issues that I described no
longer happen.

(Since you asked, I'm running plain i3wm on an X session.)

Dear Maintainer,

After updating `network-manager-gnome`, the toggles "Enable Networking" and
"Enable Wi-Fi" that show on right-click over the `nm-applet` appear active but
grayed out and not responsive.  Also, if I choose "Edit Connections...", and
choose a connection in the "Network Connections" list, the "-" and gears
buttons in the bottom remain grayed out and a tooltip shows up with
"No polkit authorization to perform the action".

Since I'm not running the whole GNOME, I installed `policykit-1-gnome`, ran
`/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1` and restarted
`nm-applet` with same results.  As my user belongs to `netdev`, I also tried
the `/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/WHATEVER.pkla` config mentioned
in #642136 to no avail (after restarting polkit and NetworkManager):

I locally created a version based on the more recent 0.3.11 upstream version,
with the same Debian files (plus an extra changelog entry, of course), and
``dpkg-buildpackage -A`` seemed to successfully build, pass the tests and
package everything.

So probably using the latest upstream would fix the issue.  Thanks!

Hi there!  After the last update and reboot of my Sid system, I could no
longer hear sound output from any application.  I'm running per-user
PulseAudio, and ``pavucontrol`` said that no audio cards were being detected,
showing only a fake sink device.  The card was reported in ``dmesg``,
``lspi``, ``lsmod`` and ``alsamixer`` though.

Running ``fuser /dev/snd/*`` showed only the Timidity daemon having
``/dev/snd/controlC0`` open.  Stopping the Timidity daemon seemed to fix the
issue and running ``pavucontrol`` again reported the physical card.  Actually
I was then able to start the Timidity daemon again successfully without
breaking things.

Restarting the system made the Timidity daemon hold the card again until it
was stopped, so I stopped and disabled the daemon as a temporary workaround.

As I mentioned, this happened after a recent update and reboot, so the issue
may have been introduced by some update during June 2018.

not guaranteeing that it's a recommendable way to run it!)

I had the same issue here with the same result of losing my kernel headers,
DKMS not working, thus being unable to build VirtualBox modules and use
VirtualBox at all.

I tries to look for a ``4.11.11-1+b1`` version for the ``-common`` and
``-common-rt`` packages (both lacking the latest consistent version), but
found nothing.

It looks like the only chance left for me is rebooting into a previous
kernel.`:(`

Hi, I was running a root SSH session from my normal user X11 session.  As
root, I created a simple container with ``lxc-create -t debian -n test3``,
then I edited its config file to set ``lxc.console = none``.  When I started
the container with ``lxc-start -n test3``, my user's X11 session closed
abruptly.  I checked that this happened any time that I entered X11, SSH'd as
root and started or stopped the container.  Removing the ``lxc.console``
option allowed the container to start and stop without issues.

When running directly as root from a virtual console (e.g. tty1), stopping the
container shows shutdown messages and closes the host console.  When starting
it, I get the container login on the virtual console, then after a second the
host console, then the container console, and so on…

``lxc.container.conf(5)`` says about ``lxc.console``:

I expected from that warning to get container messages in the host, but not to
have it reset my session.  Maybe a new warning is needed there?

``gnunet-gtk-dev``?

Neither can I, with 1:1.1.5-1 and the configuration I indicated above,
``/dev`` gets mode 0755 and things work ok now when creating the
container with umask 0027.

Bug#781648: dnscrypt-proxy: Default configuration doesn't work with Unbound DNS cache

Hi!  The README of ``dnscrypt-proxy`` recommends using Unbound as a DNS
caching resolver in combination with it.  However, Unbound enables DNSSEC and
the default configuration of ``dnscrypt-proxy`` sets
``DNSCRYPT_PROXY_RESOLVER_NAME=opendns`` in its default file.  The problem is
that OpenDNS servers disable DNSSEC, which results in Unbound rejecting the
responses coming from the proxy and name resolution failing, as explained
here: https://forums.opendns.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=15361#Item_9

I suggest to change the default to a different one (e.g. the ``dnscrypt.eu-*``
servers seem to work), or to add a short comment in the default file warning
about OpenDNS servers and DNSSEC.

Hi, I wanted to report that the version on ``nagios-nrpe-server`` in Wheezy
suffers from [Nagios bug #305](http://tracker.nagios.org/view.php?id=305),
which (at least in out case) causes some test to alternatively return a normal
WARNING or an unexpected CRITICAL error with the message "Return code of 141 is
out of bounds" caused by a TCP RST packet sent by the server to the client
because of an incomplete ``SSL_shutdown()`` that causes an incomplete read and
thus a SIGPIPE.

Fortunately the patch ``nrpe-ssl_shutdown-2.patch`` attached to the ticket
applies cleanly to the current 2.13-3 source code and generates a package which
doesn't suffer the problem.

This issue seems to persist in Iceweasel 31.  I run the following steps in
order:

 0. Open Iceweasel with profile Foo.  Keep it open.
 1. iceweasel -P Bar http://example.com

 2. iceweasel -P Bar -new-instance http://example.com
-> Opens example.com in new Bar window, ok.  Keep it open.
 3. iceweasel -P Bar http://example.com
-> Opens example.com in Foo window, bad!
 4. iceweasel -P Bar (-new-instace|-no-remote) http://example.com
-> "Iceweasel is already running, but not responding." error.

I think this behaviour is a manifestation of this same bug.
Since https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=643418 and
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486172 do not seem to make
progress in fixing this, I support Nathaniel in applying his patch so that new
windows/tabs can actually be opened in different running profiles.

I just changed the first line in ``Gui.enter()`` to read:

e = self.entry.get_text().decode()

(note the extra ``.decode()``) so that the Unicode contexts are compared
instead of their encoded string versions, and it seems to work.  I'm not
sure about how correct it is to decode like whis without giving an
explicit encoding, though

Please ignore this, I already checked that this escaping is also native
for JSON to fit in ASCII encoding. :-/

(First of all thanks for the neat and nice piece of software!)

The Assword GUI cannot match contexts with accents and the like.

For instance, I create a new entry by running ``env ASSWORD_PASSWORD=prompt
assword add``.  I enter ``això`` as a context.  If I run ``assword dump això``
I get the stored password.  So far so good.

The problem shows up when I run ``assword gui`` with no context argument.
If I enter ``això`` or some letter and then select the completion for
``això``, I'm unable to fulfill the password selection with Enter, since the
label above insists in "no match", even when the full matching context is in
the text box.

Maybe it's some kind on encoding problem.  If I dump the database, I can see
that the context is always escaped using ``\u`` (even if ``\x`` was enough),
i.e. it has become ``aix\u00f2``.  There should be no need of such escaping
since JSON documents are UTF-8 native, so this only adds a chance for
encoding errors.

Hopefully the fix simply consists of calling some ``.encode()`` or
``.decode()`` at the right spot in the code. :)

Bug#741537: pssh: IPv6 host address processing broken

The handling of IPv6 addresses is broken since the ``parse_host_entry()``
function in ``psshutil.py`` thinks the colons in it are an indication for a
port and the last component is taken apart.  Enclosing the address in brackets
doesn't work either because the host name resolution includes the brackets
around the IP address.

(A workaround is sticking a ``:22`` at the end of addresses with no port, but
it results in non-standard addresses.)

pssh should at least allow to specify IPv6 addresses enclosed in brackets
(ideally without brackets if no port is specified).  IPv6 addresses can be
identified with a proper regular expression or because they have at least
two colons.

Hello, I'm attaching some patches for the manpages (all languages) to fix a
couple of confusing issues in them, namely:

- The ``plugins`` directory is introduced as sitting in each list's config
  directory, when it's actually located under ``~/.enemies-of-carlotta``.
  Moved the description to the FILES section.

- Backslash-escape the dots in the sample domain in Postfix example virtual
  alias regexps (I happened to be bitten by f...@example.com getting matched by
  foo.example.com).

- Slightly rewrite the note on using the ``--skip-prefix`` option to make it
  more clear that it always must be used with the virtual domain example, and
  when to use + or - as the address extension character.

open a connection using ``nc -U -u /dev/log``, so the test should be possible.
Running ``monit -I -v`` however shows "Unix Socket = if failed [/dev/log
[protocol DEFAULT] with timeout 5 seconds and retry 0 time(s)] 1 times within 1
cycle(s) then restart else if succeeded 1 times within 1 cycle(s) then alert".
The ``protocol DEFAULT`` part makes it look like Monit is completely ignoring
the ``type UDP`` clause for unix sockets, which is a pity since it prevents
thoroughly monitoring the main system logger.

This may be the same case reported in Jul 2011 by mad in the mailing list:

Hi!  Running ``chown USER FILE`` on a fuseext2 filesystem leaves the user
unchanged and it changes the FILE's group to 65535 instead of leaving it as
is.  Also, running ``chgrp GROUP FILE`` leaves the group unchanged and changes
the FILE's user to 65535.  Only changing both items at once with ``chown
USER:GROUP FILE`` works as expected.

executing "sakura -e aptitude" opens Sakura with a plain shell.  This makes

I just discovered that not dropping the ``sys_boot`` capability from a
container fixes the issue, plus it allows the container to properly reboot
(instead of launching a bare shell in the case of Debian containers).

So maybe it was the old kernel which handled that capability in an incorrect
way and the problem is not in sysvinit at all.

The main problem here is that tincd doesn't complain about the odd "HUP"
argument and it goes on with a different value.  I don't know how getopt
works, but maybe "HUP" is considered a non-option argument.  Since
tinc(1) indicates that there are no valid non-option arguments, the
program could show an error and abort the task.

This looks like some problem with the parsing of options, i.e. the "-k" option
is recognised but not its argument.  However please note that separating the
option from its argument actually worked with the "-n" option.

Because of bug #684134 I'm forced to include a command in lxc-debconf preseed
file to mangle /etc/locale.gen like this:

lxc-debconfig lxc-debconfig/late-command string \
sed -i -e 's/^[# ]*\\(en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8\\) */\\1/' /etc/locale.gen; \
locale-gen; update-locale LANG=en_US.UTF8

Of course the command gets truncated when the container is a Squeeze one.  It
may be rather pointless for the bug report but it's still one more example of
where people may get bitten by the bug in stable.

Generally hases may appear in lots of Debconf variables we can't even imagine,
so whether using them in passwords is fine or not is quite irrelevant to the
need of fixing this. ;)

I've also been bitten by this when setting both ``default_environment_locale``
and ``locales_to_be_generated`` variables in a preseed file for a container.
The ``locales.config`` package script doesn't take those into accout so I'm
forced to fiddle with sed and ``/etc/locale.gen``, locale-gen and
update-locale afterwards.  This could be avoided if the config script looked
up these variables before overwriting them.

Hi, today I noticed that my containers created using `lxc-create -t debian`
had too restrictive permissions (-rw---) in normal files like
`/etc/{motd,profile,hosts,hostname}`.  It looks like the current umask of my
root user (0077) is being used by lxc (and by extension live-debconfig)
scripts instead of something more fit for system installations like 0022.
Running `lxc-create` with umask 0022 works around the problem, but it may make
sense to set the appropriate umask inside the relevant lxc scripts.

1+ GiB RAM + 2 GiB swap (mostly free) so I don't think it's an actual memory
shortage.  Nonetheless, lowering the number of spawned goroutines to 825 makes
the program run (> 825 crashes it, all regardless of free system memory).

Hi, I found that the description of the `ip link add` command in the manpage
is outdated regarding the compulsory `link DEVICE` option.  For instance, `ip
link help` says:

But the manpage still says:

ip link add link DEVICE [ name ] NAME

(Trying to provide a `link` option e.g. under an LXC container can frustrate
the creation of dummy devices which don't need an actual device.)

The current Sid version of `linux-container` (1-4) seems to install flawlessly
in a Squeeze container, fixing the virtual consoles and missing SSH daemon
keys by the way.

Since current `lxc-debconf` (0.8.0~rc1-4) tries to install `linux-container`,
simply having it present in Squeeze backports would greatly help in creating
ready-to-run Squeeze containers.

It looks like the last package version still doesn't fix the problem:

The file is actually `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lxc/lxc-init` (i.e. the last

As additional info, Emacs in text mode in my computer (i.e. `emacs -nw` or
plain `emacs` without a DISPLAY environment variable) hangs after showing the
"Welcome to GNU Emacs" screen.  However, running `emacs` with normal GUI
support, then running `server-start` from there lets me open and close
`emacsclient` frames normaly, and closing the main Emacs frame afterwards
doesn't result in it getting frozen.

So if you have a running X session, keeping a main Emacs frame open and
starting the server in there may help as a termporary workaround for running
clients.

I see, what a pity.  I've read here[1] that applying the patchset found
here[2] makes lxc-attach work under a 3.x kernel.  However those changes are
not in the mainstream kernel.  I guess we're once more stuck waiting for them
to be applied mainstream. :(

Hi, I've noticed that under lxc-console it's impossible to enter as is the
escape prefix configured to exit the console.  E.g. if the exit command is
 (the default), it's impossible to enter  itself in the
standard input, which makes interactive programs like Screen or Emacs quite
cumbersome (or impossible) to use.  The lxc-console command offers the
"--escape" option, but the user still needs to think of a character that he
won't need to use.

The attached patch allows to enter the prefix into the standard input simply
by repeating it, e.g.  exits the console,  inserts
 in standard input in the same way as  inserts "x".  Thus
the behaviour for other characters after the prefix is maintained.

I managed to build the patched kernel following your instructions, and the
patch seems to work! :) Now running "df" on a mounted Btrfs seed file system
symply reports 100% occupancy and no free space, which seems pretty correct
for me since the fs isn't writable.

It'd be great if you could help the patch make its way to upstream.  Thanks!

Hi!  Mounting a Btrfs seed filesystem (read-only, with no writable devices
added to it) and then running df results in a kernel "invalid opcode" dump and
the filesystem being unmountable (although it can still be used as a base for
other filesystems).  An easy way to trigger the error is shown below (using a
loop device, though the error also happens with "real" block devices)::

Hi!  chroot commands run at the end of lxc-debian for disabling some init
scripts (yep, the same ones mentioned in #636851) are malformed.  They go
like this:

  chroot $rootfs "LANG=C /path/to/command arg1 arg2 arg3"

when they should go like:

  chroot $rootfs sh -c "LANG=C /path/to/command arg1 arg2 arg3"

since each nonoption argument to chroot is used as an individual argument
going straight to exec, not sh.  Thanks!

Arista 0.9.7-3 still insists in using XviD for Nokia 770 (now in package
gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad), it still insists in scaling to 352 x 208,
and it still shows the error notification about not being able to link
videotee with queue4.  Besides I'm no longer running OS2006 on my Nokia but
OS2007 Hacker Edition.  The conversion using "N800 / N810" presets doesn't
result in a video that can be played in OS2007 HE either. :(

I'm no longer using this device, so feel free to close this bug report as you
see fit.  Anyway, thanks Alessio for your attention!

Changing the name of a snapshot of a running VM from the command line (which
is useful for rotating old backup snapshots) does nothing without actually
giving any error message or exit code (whether the snapshot is the newest one

Hi Julien, hi Mike.  It looks like you hit the nail, I have cedet-common and
cedet-contrib 1:1.0pre4-3.1 installed in my system, pulled by eieio, pulled by
jde from contrib.  So maybe the actual bug is #620341.

I'm also experiencing this problem, and it has the obnoxious result of
unmounting the filesyestem but leaving the entry in /etc/mtab (but not in
/proc/mounts).  As a result, trying to mount the fs again yields:

  fusermount: failed to access mountpoint /path/to/mountpoint: Permission denied

The filesystem needs to be unmounted as root. :(

I'm experiencing the same problem in my iBook G4 with an ATI Radeon Mobility
9200.  After running the bootloader (tried both Yaboot and GRUB2, single or
multiuser), some text messages appear and the screen is clared a couple of
times.  The following text is printed in white over black lines on a white
screen:

setup_arch: bootmem
arch: exit

Two more empty black lines and the system gets stuck in there, rebooting
itself after a couple of minutes.  In a normal boot (Squeeze/Sid 2.6.32), the
screen used to be cleared black and the penguin logo appeared.  With 2.6.37 it
does't reach this point.

How should I disable it?

Yesterday I was finally able to run a quick test but transcoding failed with a
GStreamer "tunnel connection or something" error I wasn't quick enough to note
down.  I'll see when I'm able to test it again more quietly.

However, I udpated my Nokia 770 from OS2006 to OS2007 Hacker Edition, so this
bug's conditions to check whether transcoded movies work may no longer hold.
I'll report as soon as I do the test.  Thanks!

Bug#573186: org-mode: "%3f" shouldn't be unescaped in HTTP URLs

(This is related to my second post in bug #572404.)

Some HTTP URLs have literal '?' in them.  Since '?' also separates the path
from query arguments, it needs to be escaped in the first case.  These are
examples of the two cases:

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who%27s_Afraid_of_Virginia_Woolf%3F (literal '?')
- http://www.google.com/search?q=org+mode (query separator)

These are the URLs generated by Org mode when exporting them to HTML:

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who%27s_Afraid_of_Virginia_Woolf?
- http://www.google.com/search?q=org+mode

I.e. '?' is left as is, but '%3f' is unescaped, producing the wrong URL (don't
be fooled by the fact that Wikipedia actually accepts it ;) ).  This makes
impossible to correctly export an HTTP URL with a literal question mark in it.

The solution would be to leave '%3f' as is, too, in the same way as '%27' has
been left as is in the previous example.

Bug#572404: org-mode: Links w/ description and '%3f' in URL fail

Even more strange, while '%3f' reveals the error, '%3F' does not.  I guess the
``org-link-unescape`` function has some serious problems with the handling of
'?': when using '%3F' in an HTTP URL, it is unescaped when exported to HTML,
resulting most of the time in invalid URLs, since the '?' character separates
the path from query arguments.

For instance, in "http://x.org/what%3F"; the '%3F' should be left as is instead
of being exported as "http://x.org/what?";.  In "http://x.org/query?foo=bar";,
the '?' should also be left as is.

Here it's better to trust the user and leave URLs untouched than trying to be
too smart.

This error is quite esoteric.  Creating a link with a '%3f' escape sequence in
its URL (at least HTTP ones) makes it fail to be edited with C-c C-l and
exported with the error:

  org-link-unescape: Wrong type argument: characterp, nil

But only if the link has a description.  Other escape sequences like '%3e' or
'%40' or even the literal '?' corresponding to character 0x3f don't trigger the
error.  For instance:

- http://www.example.com/x%3fx  doesn't trigger the error
- [[http://www.example.com/x%3fx][test]]  triggers the error
- [[http://www.example.com/x%3ex][test]]  doesn't trigger the error
- [[http://www.example.com/x?x][test]]  doesn't trigger the error

Using an emphasis (italics, bold, underline, etc.) which spans more than two
lines doesn't work.  For instance, given the following input to org-mode:

Three spans of text should be exported with a bold face.  However, only the two
first ones are recognised, while the markers for the third one appear verbatim
on output text.  Font lock doesn't show the third span as bold either.  The
second span is only shown as bold by font lock after wrapping the paragraph and
undoing, but is always exported correctly.

Bug#566846: arista: Nokia 770 presets produce incompatible video

I transcoded a video file using Arista and the Nokia 770 presets.  The
resulting AVI video file cannot be played on the 770's included video player
(OS 20006 Mistral/Gregale).  The player complains that the used video codec is
unsupported (it uses Xvid, according to VLC).

The file can be played both in my computer's VLC and Nokia's MPlayer (though
both show a greenish, changing line at the bottom and the sound is quite
crappy).

By the way, mplayer.garage.maemo.org suggests that Nokia 770 videos would
better use 400x224, 320x240 or 400x240, instead of the 352x208 resolution in
Arista's presets.

Bug#557325: mpd: Can run multiple user instances with Unix socket

I'm running MPD from my user account, and I've set it up to use a Unix domain
socket to avoid setting permissions and a password (filesystem permissions do
the job).  In ``~/.mpdconf`` I've set::

  bind_to_address  "/home/ivan/.mpd/socket"

I'm starting MPD in my ``.bash_profile`` just by running ``mpd``.  Everything
works right, but when I start a second session (e.g. I log in remotely via
SSH), ``mpd`` is run again, ignoring the state of the currently running daemon
and overwriting its PID file.

When I used a normal TCP socket, the second daemon would die with an "Address
already in use" error.  Wouldn't this be the expected behaviour with Unix
domain sockets, too?

I downloaded the source, built it, stopped ``pcscd`` and ran ``parse``.  The
resulting output is attached.  Also attached is the output generated by running
``pcscd`` with the debugging options, while the card inserted, then removing
the card and then inserting it again.

Bug#555896: aptitude: dist-upgrade doesn't install new essential pkgs from non-default release

I have a pinning setup where all packages are pulled from the stable release 
with some 
exceptions which are pulled from testing.  All relevant config files are 
included below.  After 
adding the testing repo line to ``sources.list`` and setting APT's pinning 
preferences, running 
``apt-get dist-upgrade`` finds new essential packages from testing and installs 
them.  However, 
under the same situation, running ``aptitude dist-upgrade`` doesn't install 
anything.  After 
installing them manually or using ``apt-get``, they are correctly regarded as 
essential by 
Aptitude.

Assuming that the behaviour of ``apt-get`` is right (see #216768), Aptitude 
should also install 
the new essential packages when ``dist-upgrade`` is run.  Thanks!

Umm, I forgot to issue the dist-upgrade command after setting up the pinning,
and that's why the new essential packages weren't installed.  However, running
``aptitude dist-upgrade`` doesn't install the new essential packages, while
``apt-get dist-upgrade`` does.  Do you think I should report this as a bug in
Aptitude?

On the other hand, if I'm using a repository from *testing* and I have
installed some packages from it, it makes some sense that essential packages
from testing must be installed also.  However, when I remove all packages from
testing (bar the essential ones), the essential packages from testing which
aren't essential in stable (i.e. ``dash``) are still regarded as essential by
Aptitude.

Maybe the situation became just too sophisticated to handle automatically. :-/

My APT setup includes sources from Lenny (stable) and Squeeze (testing), pinned 
so that only 
certain packages get pulled from testing.  I have ``apticron`` installed and 
since I made the 
mixed setup with pinning, it reports that ``dash`` and ``diffutils`` are 
pending an upgrade, 
when neither of them are installed.  It happens that both packages are 
essential in Squeeze, 
but not in Lenny.  If I install the Lenny version of ``dash`` and try to remove 
it with 
Aptitude, it insists in the installed package being essential, which is untrue.

Forcing the removal of ``dash`` and ``diffutils`` reverts the system to the 
same state (i.e. 
``apticron`` recommending the upgrade of the uninstalled packages).

I can't really recall any character i Tolkien's books called Sm8.  Oh wait,
August (aug) is the eighth month of the year.  Maybe the problem is in that
``/usr/share/gcal/scripts/ct2gcal.pl`` script which generated the previous
file.  I'm not trained in the lore of Perl runes, so I'm afraid I can not offer
a solution to this problem, but I guess that when the solution is in place, the
line should read::

When GDM pops up after bootup, the keyboard stops responding as soon as I type
anything.  I'm able to do Ctrl+Alt+Fn and work normally on the console *before*
I input anything into GDM, however after the input Ctrl+Alt+Fn no longer works,
nor does SysReq.  The same kind of lockup happens when I pop up the Actions
menu using the mouse.  In both cases, the mouse can be moved, but clicks are
ignored.  A hard reset is then required (I couldn't chek logging in by SSH, but
the poweroff button is also ignored, however I can play music).

This also happens when using XDM, but the server hangs right away without
needing to press any key.

Running the X session with startx gives no problems.  However, when suspending
to RAM, waking the computer up results in the same lockup.

Reverting xserver-xorg-video-intel from 2.8.0 to 2.7.1 fixes the problem, as
indicated in http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/17951.html

This also happens with XDM: the letters look like the reflection in a lake, and
the keyboard stops responding (incl. magic SysReq).  Reverting
xserver-xorg-video-intel from 2.8.0 to 2.7.1 fixes the problem, as indicated in
http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/17951.html

I'm going to open a new bug report on xserver-xorg-video-intel, since none of
the current ones seems to describe the same problem.

Bug#406457: gdm: Keyboard input locks when typing, opening Actions menu too

I'm also experiencing something like this.  When GDM pops up, the keyboard
stops responding as soon as I type anything.  I'm able to do Ctrl+Alt+Fn and
work normally on the console *before* I input anything into GDM, however after
the input Ctrl+Alt+Fn no longer works.  The same kind of lockup happens when I
pop up the Actions menu using the mouse.  In both cases, the mouse can be
moved, but clicks are ignored.  A hard reset is then required (I couldn't chek
logging in by SSH, but the poweroff button is also ignored).

Running the X session with startx gives no problems.

This may be related with #533724, since installing the packages mentioned there
(xserver-xorg-input-kbd and xserver-xorg-input-mouse) allowed me to type in my
login and part of my password before locking.  However, the letters in the
input box moved some pixels back and forth with the cursor blink, or they
seemed to be split horizontally in three parts, the middle one blinking as I
entered characters (yeah, quite odd).
