Hi!

This package is really a native one, I'm the last maintainer.
I think I simply forgot to upload the source to sourceforge...

Hi,

In fact this version of rsync can only work with backuppc.
So I think it would be better to keep this name, to reduce

Hi !

Yes, I was on the way to upload backuppc v4, but it was too much work
for me...
I've packaged backuppc-rsync, which is a modified rsync for backuppc v4,
and uploaded it but it was rejected because of copyright issues.
I may try to upload it again before orphaning it...
The source for it is here: https://github.com/ldrolez/backuppc-rsync

Some of the Debian bugs are in fact fixed in v4, that's why I was
working on it.

There's still lots of problem caused by latest samba packages, and
I think that they can only be fixed with patches in smbclient.

Bug#887490: O: backuppc -- high-performance, enterprise-grade system for backing up PCs

2018-01-17 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Due to lack of time, I intend to orphan the backuppc package.
Maintaining this package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

Ludovic

The package description is:
BackupPC is disk based and not tape based. This particularity allows
features not found in any other backup solution:
  * Clever pooling scheme minimizes disk storage and disk I/O.
Identical files across multiple backups of the same or different PC are
stored only once resulting in substantial savings in disk storage and disk
writes. Also known as "data deduplication".
  * Optional compression provides additional reductions in storage.
CPU impact of compression is low since only new files (those not already
in the pool) need to be compressed.
  * A powerful http/cgi user interface allows administrators to view log files,
configuration, current status and allows users to initiate and cancel
backups and browse and restore files from backups very quickly.
  * No client-side software is needed. On WinXX the smb protocol is used.
On Linux or Unix clients, rsync or tar (over ssh/rsh/nfs) can be used
  * Flexible restore options. Single files can be downloaded from any backup
directly from the CGI interface. Zip or Tar archives for selected files
or directories can also be downloaded from the CGI interface.
  * BackupPC supports mobile environments where laptops are only intermittently
connected to the network and have dynamic IP addresses (DHCP).
  * Flexible configuration parameters allow multiple backups to be performed
in parallel.
  * and more to discover in the manual...

Description : rsync optimised for BackupPC backup utility

Rsync-bpc is a customized version of rsync that is used as part of
BackupPC, an open source backup system.

The main change to rsync is adding a shim layer (in the subdirectory
backuppc, and in bpc_sysCalls.c) that emulates the system calls for
accessing the file system so that rsync can directly read/write files
in BackupPC's format.

Hi,

Yes, '-d 5' is needed if you have $Conf{BackupZeroFilesIsFatal}=1.
It's also needed for successful restores.

Yes this first one is necessary because with the new smbclient,
backuppc cannot count how many files were backed-up resulting
in empty backups.

Bug#825534: jessie-pu: package backuppc/3.3.0-2

2016-05-27 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: jessie
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

Hi!

Backuppc is a backup service that can be used to backup SMB shares with
the help of smbclient.

Unfortunately, a security update of Samba, from 2:4.1.17+dfsg-2+deb8u2
to 2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2, broke Backuppc backups and restores
because smbclient was completely rewritten with the 4.2 release.
Backuppc relied on messages output by smbclient 4.1 to confirm that
file transfers were ok.

This patch add new regexps in Backuppc, to provide compatibility with
smbclient 4.2 and more.

Of course, the best would be maybe to patch smbclient, and add some
code that was removed in the 4.2 release, since this update may have
broken other file backup programs.

Best regards,

Ludovic

2016-04-15 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi !

(Debian bug URL
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=820963 )

Yes, a full fix won't be easy because smbclient output has changed
since samba 4.2.

For example in 4.1.x the following code was present in
samba/source3/client/clitar.c in do_atar():

  if (tar_noisy) {
   DEBUG(0, ("%12.0f (%7.1f kb/s) %s\n",
 (double)finfo.size, finfo.size / MAX(0.001, (1.024*this_time)),
 finfo.name));
  }

clitar.c has been rewritten in 4.2+...

Bug#820963: Backup with XferMethod smb and Samba 4.2 impossible in Debian Jessie

2016-04-15 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hello,

Please could you try to edit /etc/backupcc/config.pl and modify the 3
following lines:

1- Find the lines:

$Conf{SmbClientFullCmd} = '$smbClientPath $host\\$shareName
$I_option -U $userName -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\\ full -Tc$X_option -
$fileList';

{SmbClientIncrCmd} = '$smbClientPath $host\\$shareName
$I_option -U $userName -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\\ full -TcN$X_option
$timeStampFile - $fileList';

$Conf{SmbClientRestoreCmd} = '$smbClientPath $host\\$shareName
$I_option -U $userName -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\\ full -Tx -';

2- Add the verbose option after 'full' using double backslashes as
follows:

$Conf{SmbClientFullCmd} = '$smbClientPath $host\\$shareName
$I_option -U $userName -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\\ full\\ verbose -Tc$X_option -
$fileList';

{SmbClientIncrCmd} = '$smbClientPath $host\\$shareName
$I_option -U $userName -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\\ full\\ verbose -TcN$X_option
$timeStampFile - $fileList';

$Conf{SmbClientRestoreCmd} = '$smbClientPath $host\\$shareName
$I_option -U $userName -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\\ full\\ verbose -Tx -';

Bug#412185: Multiple RC issues identified in atftpd

2016-02-15 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi!

Yes proper auto-configuration of this package is a nightmare, maybe the
better is to drop all auto-config and suggest people to manually
configure it.

In fact, I'm the last maintainer. However, atftp should not be removed
because it's the only tftp server with multi-cast support.

Bug#708245: backuppc: Upgrade from squeeze : backup fails with Failed to create directory

2015-08-11 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hello,

After searching for this error in the source code, it seems that
the directory name is printed after the error message. So if no
directory is found after this error, it's because TopDir is not
defined in the configuration file.
So I close this bug.

Bug#706315: conffile handled with ucf

2014-02-06 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi,

Are you sure that's not a normal behavior, that
/etc/backuppc/config.pl is marked as obsolete after upgrade?

I tried to play with dpkg-maintscript-helper rm_conffile, but
nothing happens, config.pl is still an obsolete conffile...

Best regards,

   Ludovic.

 } dixie:~# grep-status -P backuppc -s Version,Conffiles

So it's still listed as a conffile.

How do you clear the status?

You could use dpkg-maintscript-helper. dh_installdeb has support for
that too, since some debhelper version.

 e.g.:

 } rm_conffile /etc/tor/tor-tsocks.conf 0.2.4.12-alpha-1 tor

Package: wnpp

I intend to orphan the adzapper package.

The package description is:
A redirector for squid that intercepts advertising (banners, popup
windows, flash animations, etc), page counters and some web bugs (as
found). This has both aesthetic and bandwidth benefits.
 .
Add one line to your squid.conf and it's installed ! Can also be used by
an apache2 or polipo proxy. This package contains also files which can
be used by the Konqueror AdBlocK or Mozilla AdBlock.

In fact there a problem with debconf.
If you run dpkg-reconfigure backuppc, you'll see that the apache2

Is it a debconf problem which does not remember older values??

Bug#588436: backuppc: Have an authenticated access for personnal backups

2011-09-13 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi !

In fact you can already do this. In the 'hosts' files, you have a
'user' field. That's the name of the use that can access the backup.
So you just need to:
1- set-up kerberos auth on your Apache server,
2- the kerberos users and the ones in 'hosts' should match
3- create a user.pl for each /home/user

BR,

  Ludovic

For a multiuser setup with a kerberos authentication it would be really nice
 to
have a way of giving access to those users to their personnal backups.

So user paul would have access to /home/paul for example.

I couldn't find a bugtracker for the upstream of backuppc so I'm putting it
 here.

can do this, but no before late Sunday. I don't want to duplicate
efforts, either, so if someone else is working on this, do let me know.

Here's my current patch. Anyone: feel free to take it and run with it.

 Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for atftp (versioned as 0.7.dfsg-9.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/5 to address the RC bug filed against
atftp. Please notify if you have a pending upload addressing
this bug and would like me to remove the upload from the

Note that the patch below should be applied in addition to the
patch Ben Hutchings supplied in July for this bug.

Perl 5.12 (currently in experimental) removed support for suidperl,
so the perl-suid Debian package is going away too.

As this package Depends on perl-suid, it will therefore become
uninstallable when Perl 5.12 enters sid.

It is not yet decided whether this will happen for squeeze or not,
but please move away from perl-suid as soon as possible.

Bug#258998: atftpd does not work from secondary ip addresses

2009-07-30 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi !

I've tried to reproduce this old bug without success.
1- I've added an alias to my main server with ifconfig eth0:1 1.1.1.1
2- tried a tftp transfer from another server using the alias
3- the file was transfered without amy problems
4- a tcpdump shows that the right IP addresses are used

I see that you run the tftpd server from inetd. Maybe it's a bug in
your inetd server ? Which inetd did you use ? (I used openbsd-inetd
0.20080125-2).

Bug#538954: kdelibs4c2a: dcopserver stuck after a konqueror crash

2009-07-28 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Package: kdelibs4c2a
Version: 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-0lenny1
Severity: important

Sometimes konqueror crashes and leaves the dcopserver in a stuck state.
If I strace dcopserver, I get only (a sighup was tried):

--- SIGHUP (Hangup) @ 0 (0) ---
rt_sigaction(SIGHUP, {0xb688e7a0, [HUP], SA_RESTART}, {0xb688e7a0,
[HUP], SA_RESTART}, 8) = 0
sigreturn() = ? (mask now [])
read(18,

With lsof I find that fd 18 is the dcop service socket:

dcopserve 27985 ldrolez 18u unix 0xd8682000 5080498
/tmp/.ICE-unix/dcop27985-1248257713

So it seems that:
1- konqueror crashes
2- dcopserver does not react properly when the socket fd 18 is broken
3- dcopserver still try to read from fd 18, but no replies...
4- new user programs cannot connect to dcopserver
5- I must restart the whole KDE session.

Cheers,

  Ludovic.

in the provided file, the diff is quite large and difficult to read.
It would be good if backuppc uses ucf with the --three-way merge
option. So, system admin should be able to merge their changes with new
 upstream/debian changes.

I can work on a patch for your package if you are ready to accept it.
Just tell me. (Some maintainers hate ucf so I do not want to make some work
if it has not any chance to be accepted)

Thanks for the bug report.

I'll remove that option soon to fix that bug. In fact, the password used
to be passed as an envvar to smbclient. Now the '-N' option seems to
ignore passwords on the command line as well as in th PASSWD envvar.
This is an undocumented change so I'll reassign this bug to smbclient

2008-08-26 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Package: smbclient
Version: 2:3.2.1-1
Severity: important

After an upgrade from etch to lenny, smb:// URL stopped working in
Konqueror. I can browse the directories but cannot open files.
It seems to affect at least NetApp filers (and a few others),
and we have lots of them at work!

Someone suggested that it was a libsmbclient problem so I tried to
reproduce it with smbclient, and got the following error with a 'get':

parallel_read returned NT code 0xf100

It seems that a patch exists, as suse users reported and fixed the same bug:

Since BackupPC 3.0 Xfer/Tar.pm prepends ./ before _all_ file exclusions.
Effectively, this means that it is no longer possible to exclude files by
name only, you would always have to list the full path for each individual
 file.
Besides the fact that this makes file exclusions for tar completely
unusable, it is also in contradiction to the documentation [1].

The attached (tested) patch fixes this issue.

Note that the same syntax is also used for BackupFilesOnly immediately
below. I am fairly certain that the same fix needs to be implemented there,
but was not sure enough to include it in the patch.

Why did you not move the main log files under /var/log/?

In fact old backuppc logs are compressed using a non-standard program. So they
can be read only from the web interface.
All logs under /var/log are usually readable with view, zcat, zless, so if
backuppc logs were put there, I think I would have received lots of bug

Bug#436681: backuppc: Web interface password publicly visible

The default password generated at installation time is publically
visible to any user with local access to the system on which backuppc is
installed as it is included in the debconf database [1] as a variable
 for the backuppc/configuration-note template.

 [1] /var/cache/debconf/config.dat

Hi !

Thanks for the report ! What's strange is that the password should be in
passwords.dat, not in config.dat... Anyway it should be cleared.

Cheers,

Bug#431979: backuppc: BackupPC 3.0 needs File::RsyncP module version 0.68

I installed BackupPC 3.0.0-3 from sid on a mostly-etch system. The first
 backup failed with:
File::RsyncP module version (0.64) too old: need 0.68

I see that the backuppc package suggests libfile-rsyncp-perl (= 0.68),
but AFAIK only dependencies can be versioned.

Hi !

The debian policy allows versions in the 'suggests' field but since
it does not work well, I think that I'll add a 'conflicts:
libfile-rsyncp-perl ( 0.68)'.

Cheers,

  Ludovic.

I guess we need a versioned dependency on libfile-rsyncp-perl...

Bug#422609: FTBFS: Undefined subroutine SWISH::API::Common::VERSION

2007-06-30 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Although I'd like to reassign this bug back to swish-e again I'm not
doing so for now until some consensus is reached.

The best would be to send a mail to the upstream swish-e dev, because I
would not like to break other software based on the official usptream
swish-e perl api...

Bug#428993: Warning: Cannot change to ....

2007-06-16 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi!

Thanks for the strace ! It seems that there's a shell (bash) problem, but I
cannot tell why.
echo -e \'\\057home\' should write /home but you get 057home instead so the
'cd' fails

The relevant strace lines are:
write(4, cd , 4)
write(4, \`echo -e \'\\057home\'`\, 22) = 22
write(4, \n, 1) = 1
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, cd \`e, 100)= 7
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, cho, 100) = 3
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, -e, 100) = 3
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, \'0, 100)= 3
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, 57h, 100) = 3
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, om, 100) = 2
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, e\'`, 100)= 3
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, \\r\n, 100) = 3
select(7, [4 6], NULL, NULL, NULL) = 1 (in [4])
read(4, bash: cd: 057home: No such file ..., 100) = 46

---^^

If you have any ideas...

 Ciao,

I've mc (etch) installed on a Dell XPS M1210 and on a HP DL380 G5.
The one on the latitude keeps on sending out the above message
every time I change dirs using the panels or even typing at the
 prompt inside mc (cd blabla).
 The dir get changed but:
 - mc screen get screwed
 - mc forget the dir in the panel

This happens in xterm as well as in console.

I cannot think of any setup I changed that could have been the cause
 of such problem.
The main difference between the 2 boxes may be the locale:

 dell notebook:
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $LANG
 en_US.UTF-8

 hp server:
 wtw:~# echo $LANG
 it_IT.UTF-8

This happens also when I'm logged as root.

There is a strace of mc running, I hope it helps.

Bug#419226: ocsinventory-server packaging status

2007-06-08 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi !

I find very interesting the packaging you begun on OCSinventory. I
just wanted to know if your ocsinventory-server package is nearing
completion ? If not what do you think of Eric DECORNOD's package (sent
on your WNPP bug entry) ?

In any case I could help for packaging.

Cheers,

I got a segfault after typing F6 but only when I open listen AND info

info-listen, exit mc, open mc and try to copy file/dir.

Bug#422296: O: websec

2007-05-04 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Websec is a visual Web page monitoring software. However, it goes
beyond the normal functionalities offered by such software. Not only
does it detect changes based on content analysis (instead of date/time
stamp or simple textual comparison), it will email the changed page to
you with the new content highlighted.

Bug#422298: O: libvncserver

2007-05-04 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Libvncserver contains headers and static libraries to write your own
VNC server. In this package, x11vnc, a VNC server which uses your
current X11 session is provided.

With x11vnc you can export your currently running X11 session to any
VNC client. You do not have to launch another session as the regular VNC
server does. So it's very useful, if you want to move to another computer
without having to log out, or to help a distant colleague to solve a problem
with their desktop.

Bug#406144: mc: segfaults if trying to enter a directory owned by root

2007-04-05 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Hi !

I've tried to reproduce your bug on a ppc Debian machine (), but
no luck...

Since this bug could only be related to the PPC archs, and I've never
seen this bug on i386/amd64, I downgrade the bug to 'normal'.
