This is an assumption, Udev is the subsystem that handles media eject button events. The problem can be circumvented by commenting out the “media eject button pressed” handling in /lib/udev/rules.d/60-cdrom_id.rules. # ENV{DISK_EJECT_REQUEST}=="?*", RUN+="cdrom_id --eject-media $devnode", GOTO="cdrom_end" (which does prove nothing). This might be a problem elsewhere, p.e. the kernel issuing a spurious media eject button press event. (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213795). No, on ttyS2 there is a serial Terminal (VT320), so this is O.K. But I found the problem: It was modemmanager, which was _automatically_ installed. Modemmanager screwed up ttyS3 and ttyS2 (perhaps the onboard ttyS0 and ttyS1 also, but I can’t tell, because there is no device on ttyS0 and ttyS1 does not even have a connector). Probably systemd/modemmanager/dbus assumes that there must be a modem understanding AT-commands behind every serial interface. Uninstalling modemmanager does the job. I just found that ‘btrfs device scan’ is done by initramfs-tools in ‘/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount/btrfs’, which of course does not work for a kernel without initramfs. Not sure if this qualifies as bug any more. However, the package does not contain any. Please > consider updating the description or enabling the GUI tools in the > build. The GUI compiles on squeeze, after replacing strlcpy in nfs4acleditor.cpp:572. In my opinion, this package should build two binary-packages, one containing the commandline-tools and one containing the GUI. Having (essential) commandline-tools, depending on libqtgui4 wouldn't be a good idea. Bug#572003: kernel-package: initrd-handling is totaly broken
Package: kernel-package Version: 12.033 Severity: important generation of initrd is now handled by scripts in /etc/kernel. whoch have to be set up on the host, teh kernel ist to be installed. This is totaly broken. Needing an initrd or not, is a property of the kernel, not of the system the kernel get's installed. So it should be configured on a per-kernel basis and the configuration should be packaged with the kernel. At the moment it is configured on a per-host basis und “packaged” with the host. The effect is: * if the kernel needs an initrd and the install-host is not set up for initrd-generation the initrd is missing and has to be generated per hand. * if the kernel does not need an initrd and the system is set up for initrd-generation the initrd is generated and update-grub adds an initrd-line into menu.conf. make-kpkg should generate packages that can be installed on a system without needing manual chekup and interaction. I don't know what the patch should do and where the problem lies, but on two Debian machines I tested the qt 4.5.0-2 packages effectivly disable subpixel-rendering. This looks much better than the uglified glyphs from 4.5.0-1 but still is not the desired result. I'm assume there is (still) a bug in the patch, probably somewhere around the call to convertRGBToARGB and the legacyFilter boolean. Assumption: perhaps we here have three different libraries trying to work around FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING = false, namely GTK/pango, kde3 and kde4, and in the past it worked because they all did something similar. Bug#448555: Debian
Hello, In Debian in libfreetype, FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING is not set, probably on purpose. The libfreetype doku says: Note that no filter is active by default, and that this function is not implemented in default builds of the library. You need to #define FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING in your ‘ftoption.h’ file in order to activate it. So no filter is applied by libfreetype and Qt should honor this and _not_ _blur_ _glyphs_. This not only makes fonts ugly on low resolution devices but also make the desktop inconsistent, because Qt3, KDE3 and GTK-Applications will look fine while Qt4-Applications will look “different”. In my opinion a toolkit should not mess with libfreetypes glyph-rendering. Bug#448555: deliberate font-uglification by Qt
Qt-4.5.0 still is deliberately convoluting the glyphs generated by libfreetype with a triangel-filter, bluring the glyphs and generating colored fringes at stems. (Examples can be seen at http://www.forwiss.uni-passau.de/~berberic/QT3-4-font.png and with 400% magnification at http://www.forwiss.uni-passau.de/~berberic/QT3-4-font-400.png) This not only makes fonts blury – especially on low resolution display – but also has the effect of making mixed toolkit environments (which is quite normal X11) patchy, because Qt4- and KDE-4-applications will look “different”. And of course it's definitely not the job of a toolkit to botch around with glyphs generated by the font-subsystem (here: libfreetype). As Trolltech/Nokia obstinately refuses to fix this problem for ages (see http://www.qtsoftware.com/developer/task-tracker/index_html?method=entry&id=195256%3E?) the only way to get decent glyph-rendering in Debian is to fix this by patch. Patch will follow. This means installing kdebluetooth, a kde3/Qt3-applications leads to the install of a complete Qt4-System, which is not acceptable. kblueplugd should be remove from kdebluetooth and become a stand-alone-package which kdebluetooth should recomend, so it is possible to install kdebluetooth without installing an superflous Qt4-system. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26.3-hermione (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages kdebluetooth depends on: ii bluez-utils 3.36-1 Bluetooth tools and daemons ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6core libraries and binaries for al ii libacl1 2.2.47-2Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr1 1:2.4.43-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio21.9.1-4 Network Audio System - shared libr ii libbluetooth23.36-1 Library to use the BlueZ Linux Blu ii libc62.7-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.1-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-qt-1-1c2 0.62.git.20060814-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfam0 2.7.0-13.3 Client library to control the FAM ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.7-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.3.1-9 GCC support library ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn11 1.8+20080606-1 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libjpeg626b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libkbluetooth0 1.0~beta8-5 Bluetooth library for KDE ii libopenobex1 1.3+cvs20070425-2 OBEX protocol library ii libpng12-0 1.2.27-1PNG library - runtime ii libqt3-mt3:3.3.8b-5 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.3.1-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.1.4-2 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.9-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.12-3FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxi6 2:1.1.3-1 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.3-1 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.4-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii python-qt4 4.4.2-4 Python bindings for Qt4 ii python-qt4-dbus 4.4.2-4 DBus Support for PyQt4 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 compression library - runtime kdebluetooth recommends no packages. Bug#495002: xserver-xorg-input-wacom: Subpixel Accuracy problem
Package: xserver-xorg-input-wacom Version: 0.7.9.3-2 Severity: important There is a issue with reduced accuracy (resolution) of wacom/xinput wich affects debian lenny. The effect is, that the tablets resolution is scaled down to the displaysize, giving input-devices with no subpixel-accuracy at all. This results in jaggy lines in xournal, gimp, etc...
