This is an assumption, Udev is the subsystem that handles media eject
button events. The problem can be circumvented by commenting out the
“media eject button pressed” handling in
/lib/udev/rules.d/60-cdrom_id.rules.

  # ENV{DISK_EJECT_REQUEST}=="?*", RUN+="cdrom_id --eject-media $devnode",
GOTO="cdrom_end"

(which does prove nothing). This might be a problem elsewhere,
p.e. the kernel issuing a spurious media eject button press event.

I installed cups from experimental (2.2.4-91-g2cb1fda9f-1) on my
testing (buster) system and the default printer is honored again.
So it seems to solve this issue.

Package: libqt5gui5
Version: 5.7.1+dfsg-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

after update font-rendering in QT5-applications is ugly. Neither the
hinting settings from KDE nor system-wide settings have any
effect. Fonts are always rendert unhinted und look blurry.
QT4-applications look fine, so the problem probably is in Qt5 and not
in freetype or fontconfig.

From 231-9 to 232-3
2016-11-20 systemd:amd64 (231-9, 232-3)

> Were other parts of the system upgraded as well, like for example libkmod2

No.
But libkmod was held on 22-1, because debian libkmod does not support
compressed modules.
Upgrading to (a modified) 23-1 did solve the problem.
There seems to be some incompatibility between 22-1 and 23-1 that is
not reflected in the libraries major-number.

Bug#839008: scribus no longer finds DejaVu fonts

2016-09-27 Thread M G Berberich
Package: scribus
Version: 1.4.6+dfsg-3+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

scribus no longer finds the dejaVu fonts from fonts-dejavu-core,
fonts-dejavu-extra and fonts-dejavu, even they are working in the
system and are useable. I tested dejaVu 2.35-1 and 2.37-1 packages.

This might not be a bug in scribus, but a bug in the dejaVu
font-packages, qt or freetype. I simply don’t know.

2016-07-27 Thread M G Berberich
Package: aspell-de-1901
Version: 1:2-31
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

if aspell-de and aspell-de-1901 are both installed, setting

  lang de_DE-1901

in .aspell.conf does not work.

  aspell config lang

correctly returns ’de_DE-1901’, and starting aspell with option
’-d de_DE-1901’ works too, but without the option aspell uses
/usr/lib/aspell/de.multi instead of /usr/lib/aspell/de_DE-1901.multi
so ignoring the setting in the config-file.

Dear Maintainer,

On a intel NUC, modem-manager blocks the bluetooth-device (USB-ID

In the past I had modemmanager blocking a serial terminal and a
1-wire-bus on another system. So modem-manager seems to be very prone
to cause problems, while beeing automatically installed because
network-manager recommends it. A bad combination.

There seems to be no way to prevent modemmanager from starting if it

There seems to be no easy way to prevent modemmanager to be constantly

with systemd apt-cacher-ng no longer works. The daemon no longer
automatically starts.

Sorry, but I had reported the bug twice. First time when I
experimented with systemd, second time when Debian forced me to switch
to systemd (by conflicts with kde-full), and has been solved (at least
for me).

The problem was modemmanger, which was automatically installed and
screwed up the serial interfaces.

Please see Bug#762396.

Bug#762395: systemd is not abel to boot systems with btrfs and without initramfs

Hello,

My little script no longer worked: the system hangs at trying to mount
sdb and gives up after 1:30 min. But…

Inbetween I found that the systems boots if I deinstall lvm2. So there
seems to be some interaction between lvm2 and btrfs udev-rules or
systemd-scripts.

I attached the compressed log. This was with my script and lvm2
installed and failed.

not at the moment, but it must something like

/dev/sdb /home btrfs subvol=home0 2
/dev/sdb /data btrfs subvol=data0 2

> Are you attempting to do initramfs-less boot with rootfs on btrfs?

No, as far as I remember both boot and root are ext4 on
/dev/sda. /dev/sdb and dev/sdc are a btrfs-raid1 volume.

No, on ttyS2 there is a serial Terminal (VT320), so this is O.K.

But I found the problem:
It was modemmanager, which was _automatically_ installed. Modemmanager
screwed up ttyS3 and ttyS2 (perhaps the onboard ttyS0 and ttyS1 also,
but I can’t tell, because there is no device on ttyS0 and ttyS1 does
not even have a connector). Probably systemd/modemmanager/dbus assumes
that there must be a modem understanding AT-commands behind every
serial interface. Uninstalling modemmanager does the job.

Bug#762376: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: kaffeine not working woth radeon but with intel graphics

2014-09-21 Thread M G Berberich
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:7.4.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

on a Intel Core i7 4770 system with a Radeon R7 240 graphics card,
kaffeine does not work properly when the displays are connected to the
radeon. In this case kaffeine does not show video.

If the displays are connected to the Intel HD onboard-graphics
kaffeine works fine and shows video.

‘shutdown -h now’ or the menu from within kDE

Yes. But nothing happens any more except connect/disconnect messages
from the USB-Mouse.

Emergency Sync, Emergency R/O Mount and Power off via magic sysrq
does work in this state.

Bug#745064: mumble keyboard-shortcuts (for push-to-talk) not working because no XEVIE

2014-04-17 Thread M G Berberich
Package: mumble
Version: 1.2.5-245-g221a5d7-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

the keyboard-shortcuts do not work in mumble, so push-to-talk does not work.

This is most likely a problem with mumble ane the XEVIE X11-extension.

The german mumble-FAQ lists this problem and says to enable XEVIE
(see.
http://mumble.sourceforge.net/FAQ/Deutsch#Shortcuts_wie_z.B:_PTT_gehen_nicht_unter_Linux).

This does not work because XEVIE seems to be not available here.

The XServer is running the intel driver on a integrated Intel HD4600

I just found that ‘btrfs device scan’ is done by initramfs-tools in
‘/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount/btrfs’, which of
course does not work for a kernel without initramfs.

Not sure if this qualifies as bug any more.

Dear Maintainer,

For btrfs multi-disk-filesystems to get mounted it is neccessary to do
a ‘btrfs scan’ so the kernel knows about btrfs-disks/partitions. This
should probably be done in ‘/etc/init.d/mountall.sh’

/sbin/btrfs device scan 2>/dev/null

The GUI compiles on squeeze, after replacing strlcpy in
nfs4acleditor.cpp:572.

In my opinion, this package should build two binary-packages, one
containing the commandline-tools and one containing the GUI. Having
(essential) commandline-tools, depending on libqtgui4 wouldn't be a
good idea.

There is no http_proxy environment. Apt-cacher-ng is configured via
the file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20aptcacherng containing:

Acquire::http { Proxy "http://127.0.1.1:3142";; };

as recommended by the webpage showing on http://localhost:3142/

But thanks to your hint with environment I found the reason why it
works from root-shell and not via sudo. There is “no_proxy=localhost“
set in the environment, but removed from sudo.

What hosts-file? /etc/hosts?

Bug#648802: apt-cacher-ng: localhost-deb-lines on non 80 ports do not work if using sudo

2011-11-15 Thread M G Berberich
Package: apt-cacher-ng
Version: 0.6.8-2+b1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I have a line

  deb http://localhost:8003/intern/debian wheezy forwiss

in apt-sources. “aptitude update” does not work on this line if
started via sudo, it works if startet from a root-shell.
aptitude fails with:

…
Ign http://localhost wheezy Release.gpg
Ign http://localhost wheezy Release
Ign http://localhost wheezy/forwiss amd64 Packages/DiffIndex
Ign http://localhost wheezy/forwiss TranslationIndex
Err http://localhost wheezy/forwiss amd64 Packages
  403 Prohibited port (configure Remap-...)
…

The error-message seems to originate from apt-cacher-ng.

It crashes with all messages I tested.

No. Only when I start it via “konsole --profile Slrn” where Slrn is a
konsole-profile that starts /usr/bin/slrn. If I execute “konsole
--profile Slrn” from a terminal ist crashes too.

Bug#596421: /etc/cron.daily/apt handles Dir::Cache::archives wrong

2010-09-11 Thread M G Berberich
Package: apt
Version: 0.8.0
Severity: normal

I changed the apt-archive-path to “/data/squeeze/” by setting

  Dir::Cache::archives "/data/squeeze/";

in „/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/80archive“. This works fine. The
“/etc/cron.daily/apt” cronjob gives this warning:

  /etc/cron.daily/apt:
find: `/var/cache/apt//data/squeeze/': No such file or directory

presumably not checking if “Dir::Cache::archives” is an absolut path.

Bug#498416: Lua library-names

2010-06-27 Thread M G Berberich
Hello,

The library-names of lua are totaly wrong.

To be consistent with standards the libraries name should be
p.e. “liblua.so.5.1.0” instead of “liblua5.1.so.0.0.0”. The
pkg-config-name should be “lua”. There should be packages
liblua50-dev, liblua51-dev, etc. which provide liblua-dev.

But this has apparently be broken by upstream.

Bug#572003: kernel-package: initrd-handling is totaly broken

2010-02-28 Thread M G Berberich
Package: kernel-package
Version: 12.033
Severity: important

generation of initrd is now handled by scripts in /etc/kernel. whoch
have to be set up on the host, teh kernel ist to be installed. This is
totaly broken.

Needing an initrd or not, is a property of the kernel, not of the
system the kernel get's installed. So it should be configured on a
per-kernel basis and the configuration should be packaged with the
kernel.

At the moment it is configured on a per-host basis und “packaged” with
the host.

The effect is:
* if the kernel needs an initrd and the install-host is not set up for
initrd-generation the initrd is missing and has to be generated per
  hand.
* if the kernel does not need an initrd and the system is set up for
initrd-generation the initrd is generated and update-grub adds an
  initrd-line into menu.conf.

make-kpkg should generate packages that can be installed on a system
without needing manual chekup and interaction. In short they should
behave like the Debian-kernel-packages.

Problem still exists in 4.3.4.

Offline-access is important for people with slow or expensive
internet-access

· because they only have expensive mobile-access (traveling)
· because they live in an area with weak infrastructure

I found out that the problem was that the “mdadm --assemble …”-call
failed because of the names of the arrays. For root:

   sda2 has wrong name

So I tried to remove the “name='hermione':2” (and all the others) from
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf and now it boots.

Result: This does not boot:

  ARRAY /dev/md/2 level=raid1 metadata=1.0 num-devices=2
UUID=edc699ab:86dacff1:4b646c0c:73e9f59e name='hermione':2

this does:

  ARRAY /dev/md/2 level=raid1 metadata=1.0 num-devices=2
UUID=edc699ab:86dacff1:4b646c0c:73e9f59e

calling “mdadm --detail --scan” still gives the same names:

  …
  ARRAY /dev/md/2 metadata=1.00 name='hermione':2
UUID=edc699ab:86dacff1:4b646c0c:73e9f59e

Hello,

I have a simple RAID1 setup, no crypto. And it's not working since
upgrading to mdadm 3. At boot it failes to assemble the arrays.

mdadm 3.0.3-1 is still not working. During boot it failes with:

Begin: Assemble all MD arrays ... Failure: failed to assemble all arrays

and then can't mount the root-fs.

Downgrading to mdadm 2.6.7.2-3 makes it work again.

I have this problem since upgrading my squeeze-box yesterday.

Interestingly booting with on older kernel (2.6.29 instead of 2.6.30)
works – probably because the initrd of the older kernel hasn't
rebuild.

I don't know what the patch should do and where the problem lies, but
on two Debian machines I tested the qt 4.5.0-2 packages effectivly
disable subpixel-rendering. This looks much better than the uglified
glyphs from 4.5.0-1 but still is not the desired result.

I'm assume there is (still) a bug in the patch, probably somewhere
around the call to convertRGBToARGB and the legacyFilter boolean.

Assumption: perhaps we here have three different libraries trying to
work around FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING = false, namely
GTK/pango, kde3 and kde4, and in the past it worked because they all
did something similar.

I can confirm this for my system: no subpixel-rendering at all. So I
still opt for the first patch (removing the convolution only).

Bug#448555: Debian

2009-03-16 Thread M G Berberich
Hello,

In Debian in libfreetype, FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING is not
set, probably on purpose. The libfreetype doku says:

Note that no filter is active by default, and that this function is
not implemented in default builds of the library. You need to
  #define FT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING in your ‘ftoption.h’ file
  in order to activate it.

So no filter is applied by libfreetype and Qt should honor this and
_not_ _blur_ _glyphs_. This not only makes fonts ugly on low
resolution devices but also make the desktop inconsistent, because
Qt3, KDE3 and GTK-Applications will look fine while Qt4-Applications
will look “different”.

In my opinion a toolkit should not mess with libfreetypes
glyph-rendering.

It's a static function, it's not visible out of this compilation-unit
and can not be used elsewhere. So I think, it's save to remove it.

Bug#448555: deliberate font-uglification by Qt

2009-03-15 Thread M G Berberich
Qt-4.5.0 still is deliberately convoluting the glyphs generated by libfreetype
with a triangel-filter, bluring the glyphs and generating colored fringes at
stems. (Examples can be seen at
http://www.forwiss.uni-passau.de/~berberic/QT3-4-font.png and with 400%
magnification at http://www.forwiss.uni-passau.de/~berberic/QT3-4-font-400.png)

This not only makes fonts blury – especially on low resolution display – but
also has the effect of making mixed toolkit environments (which is quite normal
X11) patchy, because Qt4- and KDE-4-applications will look “different”. And of
course it's definitely not the job of a toolkit to botch around with glyphs
generated by the font-subsystem (here: libfreetype).

As Trolltech/Nokia obstinately refuses to fix this problem for ages (see
http://www.qtsoftware.com/developer/task-tracker/index_html?method=entry&id=195256%3E?)
the only way to get decent glyph-rendering in Debian is to fix this by patch.

Patch will follow.

Bug#498528: kdebluetooth dependends on Qt4

2008-09-10 Thread M G Berberich
Package: kdebluetooth
Version: 1.0~beta8-5
Severity: normal

kdebluetooth contains a little daemon called kblueplugd whichis not
part of upstream but a debian add-on. It allows for automatic starting
of /usr/bin/kbluetooth if a bluetooth-adpater is pluged
in. kdebluetooth is of course fully usable without this daemon
(otherwise upstream package would be unusable).

This daemon depends on python-qt4-dbus and python-qt4 which depend on
libqtcore4, libqt4-assistant, libqt4-designer, libqt4-help,
libqt4-network, libqt4-script, libqt4-svg, libqt4-test, libqt4-webkit,
libqt4-xml, libqt4-xmlpatterns and libqtgui4.

This means installing kdebluetooth, a kde3/Qt3-applications leads to
the install of a complete Qt4-System, which is not acceptable.

kblueplugd should be remove from kdebluetooth and become a
stand-alone-package which kdebluetooth should recomend, so it is
possible to install kdebluetooth without installing an superflous
Qt4-system.

Package: xserver-xorg-input-wacom

There is a issue with reduced accuracy (resolution) of wacom/xinput
wich affects debian lenny. The effect is, that the tablets resolution

Bug#493725: maxima-emacs: /etc/emacs/site-start.d/50imaxima-imath.el missing

2008-08-04 Thread M G Berberich
Package: maxima-emacs
Version: 5.15.0-2
Severity: normal

With 5.15 maxima contains imaxima a emacs-package for maxima, thats
uses TeX to display maxima-output and imath with allows to integrate
maxima-result into text. The
/etc/emacs/site-start.d/50imaxima-imath.el file to make this available
to normal users is missing in the package.

Alternativly its functionality can be incorporated into
/etc/emacs/site-start.d/50maxima-emacs.el

Bug#384868: wwwoffle: init-script should get spool-dir out of /etc/wwwofffle/wwwofffle.conf

2006-08-27 Thread M G Berberich
Package: wwwoffle
Version: 2.9-2
Severity: wishlist

The spooldir that is used by wwwoffle is configurable in the
wwwoffle-config file (/etc/wwwoffle/wwwoffle.conf). The init-script
does a lot of linking etc. with a hardcoded spool-dir of
/var/spool/wwwoffle. It should get the spool-dir out of the
config-file instead.
