Bug#794977: Progress
This bug now hits dselect in Testing. Is there an ETA for the updated/fixed version? Since this bug makes dselect unusuable, I think a severity upgrade is in order. Mark
Bug#707018: Status of KDE 4.10 transition
Hi there, The KDE 4.10 transition to testing is currently a bit confused. I tried updating my testing box this morning, and apt wanted to uninstall most of KDE. I tracked the problem down and nepomuk-core-data (src nepomuk-core) breaks kde-runtime-data (4.8.80) (src kde-runtime). The problem is that kde-runtime 4.10 has not made it to testing yet, so apt wants to remove kde- runtime and everything that depends on it. Pretty much all of kde depends on kde-runtime. -- Mark Small
Bug#716843: cups: CUPS doesn't properly initialize Lexmark E238
On July 14, 2013, Brian Potkin wrote: Hello Mark, Thank you for your detailed report. On Sat 13 Jul 2013 at 11:38:00 -0300, Mark Small wrote: After upgrading my print server to Wheezy, I've had a lot of problems printing on my Lexmark E238 laser printer. When printing from a linux client, it will sometimes print just the top corner zoomed to fill the whole page. This happens roughly half of the time, and only on the first page of a multi page print job. Otherwise it prints properly. I'm using the pcl5 driver. (Generic PCL 5 Printer Foomatic/ljet3). My first thought here was - why isn't the recommended pxlmono driver being used? It may not be important in the light of what is said later. Okay, so I've done some more troubleshooting. I've changed the CUPS driver to the recommended PXLMONO driver. I've also reset the printer to factory defaults. I'm still in the sometimes works category, except that its a little worse. From Windows, usign the E238 (MS) driver, when it fails, it spits out pages and pages of garbage, starting with some comments. From Linux, when it fails it now spits out pages of PCL source code starting with PJL ENTER LANGUAGE = PCLXL If I print from a Windows box using direct/raw access (with the Lexmark driver specifically for this printer), I get page after page of gobbledegook (probably PCL6 source code.) The E238 has a PCL interpreter, so this shouldn't happen. Right? That's my understanding. How is the server connected to the printer? It's connected by USB. Is testing using unstable a possibility for you? Regards, Brian. That would be tricky, as this is a mission critical box for my small business. It runs my internal email server, web server, NFS, Samba, and a bunch of other stuff that I don't want to mess up. After some more web searching, I've found some Ubuntu bugs that are similar (1184597, 872483). Both seem to resolved by playing with a usb-no-reattach option within lpadman. I'll try that and report back. --
Bug#716843: Workaround
Okay, so I've found a workaround for my printing problem. If enter the following: lpadmin -p MY_PRINTER_NAME -o usb-no-reattach-default=true and restart the printer, then printing seems to work properly. So I guess the Lexmark E238 needs to be added to the printer quirks list in usb-libusb.c. I'm guessing that many other similar lexmark printers will need to be added (E230, E232, E234, E240n, are all similar vintages), but I don't have those ones to test. Here is my lsusb output: ID 043d:00d7 Lexmark International, Inc. Would it be possible to add this to the quirk list and backport the full quirk list to the next update of Wheezy? This is a rather frustrating regression. -- Mark Small
Bug#590172: koffice-doc-html should conflict with old kpresenter data

Bug#521760: I get this updating sun-java6-bin

Bug#386226: losing interupts, can't play midi files on audigy 2
I'm seeing a very similar thing. If I try to play a midi file on my audigy 2, my syslog fills up with rtc: lost some interrupts at 1024Hz. Also, I get errors about setting the rtc on bootup. If I use a homebuilt kernel, and enable CONFIG_HPET_RTC_IRQ for the kernel, things work just fine. I can play my midi files, and the RTC gets set in the kernel. Is there any reason NOT to set CONFIG_HPET_RTC_IRQ=y in the kernel? Mark -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#451275: kpowersave options
Hi there, I've been having similar problems. I got things to work by creating a file in /etc/pm/config.d $ more /etc/pm/config.d/force S2RAM_OPTS=-f After I did this, suspend to RAM worked for me. Your options would be different. I found this in a man page for pm-utils. This bug is mostly a documentation problem. A better readme for kpowersave would really help. Bug#366845: libsane: Only root can use canon_pp backend
On Thursday 11 May 2006 12:56, you wrote: Mark Small [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, As you can see, root happily opens /dev/port, but normal user doesn't. Doh. And this is the intended behaviour. Only root can perform low-level I/O. Load the parport_pc module, create /dev/parport0 (though udev should do it for you) and try again, applying proper permissions on /dev/parport0. Above all, RESTORE THE PREVIOUS PERMISSIONS ON /DEV/PORT. You just opened a security hole. JB. Ahhh, ooops. Okay, permissions restored. For some reason udev does NOT create /dev/parport0 on my machine. I tried two new ways to get it to work. #1 modprobe ppdev This creates /dev/parport0, but scanimage -L still can't find the scanner. It also can no longer find the scanner when run as root! I can hear the scanner buzz for a split second, but then I get the classic No scanners were indentified message. #2 mknod /dev/parport0 c 99 0 -m 666 (just for testing) Exactly the same results as above. Neither root nor user can find the scanner. Scanner does a quick buzz. What do I do to get this to work as normal user? Bug#338560: Same as #303975
Hi there, This bug is the same as xine-ui bug #303975 See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=303975 And yes, it is annoying. Mark -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#286476: Similar problem
I have a similar problem. When I look at .xsession-errors, I see the following: kfmclient: ERROR: Couldn't start konqueror from konqueror.desktop: KDEInit could not launch 'kioexec'. kioexec: Unknown option '--silent'. kioexec: Use --help to get a list of available command line options. I did some grepping around in .kde and /etc, and couldn't find --silent anywhere. The funny thing is that it only happens sometimes. Bug#328738:
Is there any progress with this bug? I just installed the latest version in unstable after the kde etch transition banished the old working version. I have both the xine and gstreamer parts installed and neither work. Is a new upload forthcoming? Mark -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
