Bug#952710: firmware-amd-graphics: AMD Navi GPU doesn't work
Package: firmware-amd-graphics Version: 20190717-2 Followup-For: Bug #952710 Dear Maintainer, I can confirm that this is still broken. Without navi10_gpu_info.bin, on an RX 5700 XT, the modesetting driver does not load, so text mode does not work. Once booted up, virtual terminals are unavailable and the graphics is not hardware accelerated. If the disks are encrypted, then booting up is hard because the prompt is not shown. Recovery mode is impossible without setting nomodeset in grub. Copying navi10_* from linux-firmware git to /lib/firmware/amdgpu fixes the problem. *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.6.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled firmware-amd-graphics depends on no packages. firmware-amd-graphics recommends no packages. Confirmed, workaround given allows installing NoScript.
Bug#928449: firefox-esr: Add-ons fail to install probably due to upstream certificate issue
Just to confirm, this does happen on a clean account, with AppArmor set to complain only for /usr/bin/firefox and /usr/lib/firefox-esr/firefox-esr. Any add-on fails to install; I've tried NoScript (one of the most popular ones), and To Google Translate (was on the home page). So I assume it's the upstream issue. Query OK, 21767 rows affected (0.20 sec) Records: 21767 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 There are lots of query records like the above, then it just stops, and hangs for at least half an hour, probably forever. I am able to use the mysql command line client on other databases, but not on mythcopy. mysqld is not using any significant CPU or disk I/O according to top and iotop. And /var/lib/mysql is on an SSD. Googling shows a few bugs in the MySQL bug tracker, but nothing obvious w.r.t. Bug#766206: apt: Stale partial - confusing bogus 404 (manual intervention needed, not obvious)
Package: apt Version: 0.9.7.9+deb7u6 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, apt-get update with a stale partial Packages file displays a cryptic error 404 leading me to assume that the Packages file doesn't exist and the server is broken. This is made worse by it giving the URL of the Packages file (not including .bz2), which of course does give a 404. So the obvious solution is to download the .bz2'ed version, unpack it and put it in lists - but this bypasses some important security checks. The real solution is to delete the old cached packages files, thus allowing the .bz2 fetch to succeed. This is extremely confusing, even to a user with some technical knowledge! Most likely the problem is apt-get is misunderstanding an error message from the web server when doing a partial fetch; this ought to be fixable. If not, it should delete the partial files itself, and if that isn't possible then at least improve the error message! Don't return a URL (.../Packages) that is guaranteed to fail, and thus probably confuse the user into doing something foolish! This is a usable security issue IMHO, in that the obvious solution to the cryptic error messages is dangerous, and the bug usually only arises when the user needs to do an update urgently to fix a security problem (presumably known and exploitable). Even with support from the official IRC channel it took quite some time to resolve this; it's not good enough to dump it on the user, and it wasted some security@debian time too with me panicking about security.debian.org apparently being broken. Bug#679815: alsa-base: Consistent segfaults with short upmixing config (ca-0106)
Package: alsa-base Version: 1.0.23+dfsg-2 Severity: normal I have been trying to get upmixing+dmix working, and have tried various complex config's from the web, and these cause consistent segfaults, which suggests a serious bug (none of the configs is particularly unusual). I have managed to reduce the config file somewhat... One of the originals was the second config here: http://ds.mcbf.net/wiki/DotAsoundrc All applications using alsa (e.g. the speaker tester program and ogg123) segfault consistently with dmixer enabled as below. Commenting out the bindings section solves the segfault, but then upmix_21to51 (what I was originally trying to do) will fail: ALSA lib pcm_params.c:2150:(snd1_pcm_hw_refine_slave) Slave PCM not usable ERROR: Cannot open device alsa. To test the segfault: Set .asoundrc as below. Test with ogg123 -d alsa -o dev:dmixer ogg file to play This also segfaults with other alsa applications, e.g. speaker-test. Bug#448073: ant doesn't work in eclipse due to ant-launcher.jar not on classpath
Package: eclipse Version: 3.2.1-6 Severity: important Eclipse is unable to run ant because of a classpath problem. It produces an error box could not find org.apache.tools.ant.launch.AntMain. Specifically, ant-launcher.jar is missing from the ant classpath config within eclipse. This persists across purging and reinstalling eclipse so appears to be a problem with eclipse itself. Adding the missing jar to the classpath fixes the problem, so it should be easy to fix. The missing jar is ant-launcher.jar, which is not symlinked in /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins/org.apache.ant_1.6.5/lib with the other jars; I added it from /usr/share/ant/lib/ directly, now building with ant works. I found the web site that talks about -i : http://uk2.php.net/mail from site above I spent weeks trying to work out why PHP couldnt send mail through Exim (called locally) when for all other purposes Exim worked fine. Here, after hours of work is the answer and I hope it saves someone else some time: PHP by default calls sendmail/exim/whatever with the options -t -i -i is causing Exim to sit there waiting for more input, not detecting the end of the message. You need to tell it not to use -i by manually specifying the arguments you DO want on sendmail_path like this: sendmail_path = /path/to/exim -t end Unfortunately the suggested solution doesn't work. Exim and postfix both treat -i as don't stop on seeing a . on a line by itself. pgpRgMFnid2Ax.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#241453: acknowledged by developer (Re: [PATCH] Samba doesn't write /var/run/samba/*, can't be restarted, doesn't work, grumbles in log, with patch)
Sorry, I should have told you when I discovered the real cause of the problem. Maybe I assumed the bug had been closed. The real cause of the problem was me having a cron script that called /etc/init.d/umountnfs.sh instead of doing umount -a -t nfs/smb. With some rather unfortunate side-effects. I filed a bug that the script should be better named.
