Bug#524553: openmpi-bin: mpiexec seems to be resolving names on server instead of each node

2009-04-17 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: openmpi-bin
Version: 1.2.8-3
Severity: important

As far as I understand the error, mpiexec resolves name -> addresses on the
server
it is run on instead of an each host seperately. This works in an environment
where
each hostname resolves to the same address on each host (cluster connected via a
switch) but fails where it resolves to different addresses (ring/star setups for
example where each computer is connected directly to all/some of the others)

I'm not 100% sure that this is the problem as I'm seeing success on a single
case where this should probably fail but it is my best bet from the error
message.

version 1.2.8 worked fine for the same simple program (a simple hellow world
that
just comunicated the computer name for each process)

An example output:

mpiexec is run on the master node hubert and is set to run the processes on two
nodes
fry and leela. As is understood from the error messages leela tries to connect
to
fry on address 192.168.1.2 which is it's address on hubert but not leela (where
it
is 192.168.4.1)

This is a four node claster all interconnected

192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2

--
mpiexec has exited due to process rank 1 with PID 4433 on

have caused other processes in the application to be
terminated by signals sent by mpiexec (as reported here).

=

This seems to be a directional issue as running the program -H fry, leela failes
where -H leela, fry works, same behaviour for all senarious except those that
include
the master node (hubert) where it resolves the external ip (from an external
dns) instead
of the internal ip (from the hosts file). thus one direction fails (no external
connection
at the moment for all but the master) and the other causes a lockup

I hope that the explenation is not too convoluted

Bug#513622: aptitude: Please add a field showing package repository to package description

2009-01-30 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1
Severity: wishlist

Please add a field to aptitude's package description showing which repository
the package
is comming from.

When a package is available from more than one configured repository it's very
difficult (if not impossible) to figure out which one comes from where,
esspecially
without installing it first, and the version number is not always a good enough
indication.

For example if one has testing/unstable/experimental or external repositories
configured at the same time. It would be very helpful if a field showing the
repository is added to the package display list.

Just tried version 2.24.2 and unless something else needs to be upgraded also
then the problem is still there. 0 gets me maximum brightness and 100 gets me
minimum brightness

Finished running the scalapack test along with this package (with patch for bug
#491028 to compile scalapack with openmpi). Most pass. three lock up and a few
complained that some tests were skipped due to bad data but none segfaulted or
failed explicitly.

you need to add to Bmake.inc the following around line 176

ifeq ($(MPI),openmpi)
  TRANSCOMM = -DUseMpi2
endif

don't know if -DPOINTER_64_BITS=1 is needed (doesn't seem this way from the
note).

This makes cblacs_test_shared-openmpi finish it's run

Bug#481837: meld: Locks up waiting on stdin

2008-05-18 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: meld
Version: 1.1.5.1-2
Severity: important

I don't know if it's just to me, but meld is completely unusable at the
moment.
It locks up on startup either not showing anything at all (with no files
to compare) or after drawing the background of the window but no
forground (no menus/windows/scrollbars, etc).

strace shows that it is locked up waiting on stdin (file descriptor 0)
and it starts responding when input is given on the command line filling
in the input buffer, but waits for input on everything it's trying to
do (drawing any character or anything else for that matter) making it unusable.

the kernel driver doesn't compile with kernel 2.6.25 (which is the

Bug#475523: current lyx package is uncompatible with current qt4 package (4.4.0~rc1-2)

2008-04-11 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: lyx
Version: 1.5.4-1
Severity: normal

Current lyx package crashes consistently and almost immediatly (either
new document, loading a document or the moment pressing the mouse inside
the document) with current qt4 packages (version 4.4.0~rc1-2).

downgrading to version 4.3.4 of the qt4 packages solves the problem.

I don't know at the moment if this just requires a lyx recompile or is a
source incompatability. Will try to test later on when I have the time.

Like I said just s/// and you get the proper
bug report, the state of things with the debian package is not only the same,
but even much worse (in this case the exact same bug exists)

In this case compiz messes things up and xfwm4 which also has a compositing
manager does things correctly so either compiz does something wrong or xfwm4
matches bugs better with java, either way compiz has display issues

Sorry, forgot that I ended up installing the shame version since the debian
version refuses to draw any window decorations no matter what window decorator
I loaded (it essentially behaved as if there was no window manager loaded at
all)

just made sure with versions 1:0.6.2-0~emiscabpo+3~debian1 and git20071104
that that problem still exists and the matlab/mathematica/maple problem is
still present as well

Don't know what compiz redirecting is, is there a way to check this? All these
programs work great with xfwm4 which also has compositing, so this is not a
compositing issue but some issue with how compiz handles windows.

Tried playing with the redirection options but it didn't help

I did move all of these now to use sun's java 1.6 instead of their installed
1.5 and it solved the problem for maple and matlab but not mathematica, I tried
jabref and it is ok if it makes a difference

compiz doesn't seem to be able to render java based programs properly.

matlab (2007a) doesn't show the menubar at all
maple (11) doesn't show the content of the main window
mathematica opens two extra blank windows that can't be closed (maybe
the kernel according to a google search)

Possibly related, urxvt doens't loses the content of the title and can't
be resized with the mouse

It allows doing the same thing for threads and single unthreaded messages and

Bug#339464: xlibmesa-dri: Add mach64 dri support

2007-01-24 Thread Micha Feigin
The support to Xorg was added at the time (it wasn't compiled in originally). At
the moment as far as I know DRI doesn't work again though as the version of the
kernel module from dri.freedesktop.org requires a newer version of Xorg than
debian carries.

That is a different bug/feature request so the original bug can be closed.

Thanks
Micha

Bug#371487: Solved

2006-06-07 Thread Micha Feigin
Hoping this reaches the right place. The problem arrised from having the dri
snapshot from dri.sf.net installed on the system. This replaced libGL and seems
to have been compiled with an older ld which caused the problem.

Also, I am sorry for the bunch of following bug reports, there seems to be a
bug with reportbug (it connects to the debian bug report smtp server and just
keeps on submitting).

Bug#295788: Info received (sylpheed-claws: Can't mark and then delete a group of messages)

2006-05-23 Thread Micha Feigin
I found some more information:

lwin_toggle and alt_shift_toggle work fine when the environment (language) is
set the hebrew (for switching to hebrew) but don't show anything when it is set
to english. lwin_switch on the otherhand works ok either way. There seems to be
a difference between Mode_switch and ISO_Next_Group in this respect.

The problematic settings are in /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/group

Thanks

Bug#295788: sylpheed-claws: Can't mark and then delete a group of messages

2006-05-23 Thread Micha Feigin
I found the setting that causes this behaviour to happen.

It happens if grp:shifts_toggle is used in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to switch between
keymaps (at least when using en,il keymaps option). When using a different
groups switching method behaviour is fine.

Bug#368229: anjuta: It is also not possible to add files or classes to the project

2006-05-21 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: anjuta
Version: 2.0.2-2

When creating a new file or class, if the add to project checkbox is
marked then pressing confirm does nothing.
When compiling a project it is not aware of any new files added which
makes it impossible to compile projects with more then one file.

I have been using sylpheed-claws-gtk2 lately since it has proper hebrew support
(mainly right to left support, the rest works with regular sylpheed-claws).

Anyway, I downloaded and installed 1.0.5-2.1 and it behaves even worse then
sylpheed-claws-gtk2. I select a group of messages (move a bit with down-arrow,
the shift-down-arrow a bit to select a few messages and when I press delete the
mark jumps to the start of the folder and the messages are still marked).

I tried doing LC_ALL=C sylpheed-claws like you suggested in another message but
it didn't solve the problem. Might be a setup problem, I will try removing the
settings directory later and see if it changes anything.

It has an even worse problem that it won't show my entire mail box. I have a
few with over a thousand messages and I don't see all of them. Not sure how
many but it looks something like 600 messages.

2006-03-16 Thread Micha Feigin
I didn't receive any request for response and the bug is still here.

If I use shift and the arrow keys to mark a group of messages its as if I
didn't mark anything and just left the mark on the previously selected message
(only the one previously selected message is actually deleted). If on the other
hand I mark a group of messages using the mouse (and shift key) everything
works as expected. The only thing that does work with the keyboard is pressing
shift and end to mark all the messages to the end of the folder for deletion.

Should I refile, since this has been completely ignored since I filed it. It's
hard for me to believe that I'm the only one seeing this.

It does seem to be dependent on beamer apparently. With the attached file the
bookmarks and table of contents are in sync.

I tried to start looking into it but I don't know enough tex and I don't have
the time this week.

I tried compiling it even 5 times before sending the initial bug report,
doesn't help.

I get with tocdepth=2 only section 1 in the bookmarks without subsection 1 in
bookmarks (but it does appear in toc).

With tocdepth=1 nothing in bookmarks and section 1 appears in toc.

I tried compiling with both pdflatex and latex->dvipdf and viewing with both
xpdf and acroread.

I can also send you pdfs if you want.

There is also a lyx related bug, it would be a problem to debug the lyx problem
without knowing what lyx compiles. I am trying to see if I can get at what lyx
is compiling itself and not what it exports as it seems to be different things.

It still leaves me with bookmarks that are lagging one level behind the toc

Bug#344790: hyperref: off by 1 error with pdf bookmarks and tocdepth

2005-12-26 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: tetex-extra
Version: 3.0-11
Severity: minor

hyperref uses tocdepth to decide the depth of the bookmarks generated
from the document sections. The problem is that with documents that
don't have a chapter section this causes an off by one error.

Setting tocdepth to 1 to have only sections in the table of contents
causes no bookmarks to be generated instead of generating bookmarks only
for sections.

setting tocdepth to 2 shows sections and subsections but only sections
show in the bookmarks.

Thank you.

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Bug#343097: binutils: hidden symbol `__fini_array_end' in bitmap_test is referenced by DSO

2005-12-12 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: binutils
Version: 2.16.1cvs20051206-1
Severity: important

Trying to link against glut (freeglut3) causes the following error:

../../bfd/elflink.c:6203
/usr/bin/ld: test: hidden symbol `__fini_array_end' in test is referenced by DSO

This happened to me even with a completely empty test program (empty

Downgrading to binutils in stable (ld version 2.15) solves the problem.
The only reference I found on the web is:

Bug#295788: sylpheed-claws: Can't mark and then delete a group of messages

2005-02-17 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: sylpheed-claws
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: normal

I can no longer mark and delete a group of messages. ie pressing shift
and the arrows to mark a group of messages and then delete to delete
them just jumps to the first message in the folder, leaves the marked
messages as marked, but does nothing else. This worked before and
wouldn't be so annoying if it was possible to delete a whole thread at a
time.

Bug#292292: sylpheed-claws-gtk2: Gets locked in some speller input mode if correcting spelling mistake using right click

2005-01-25 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: sylpheed-claws-gtk2
Version: 0.9.12cvs187.1-1
Severity: normal

If I use the right mouse key to fix a spelling mistake in compose mode
sylpheed then gets locked into the speller mode. For example pressing r
will go into search and if there are letters for the letter options it
will start replacing words in the document.

It seems that the speller isn't deactivated again once sctivated. This
doesn't happen with sylpheed-claws, only sylpheed-claws-gtk2

Bug#292281: sylpheed-claws-maildir-plugin: Emptying the trash does not empty the trash

2005-01-25 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: sylpheed-claws-maildir-plugin
Version: 0.7-1
Severity: normal

Doing empty trash under a maildir seems to ignore the command as
everything remains in the trash. It works fine under a different imap
folder.

Bug#292273: sylpheed-claws-maildir-plugin: A bit obscure but found the solution to subdirs

2005-01-25 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: sylpheed-claws-maildir-plugin
Version: 0.7-1
Followup-For: Bug #292273

Took some playing around but the solution was to play around with
symlinks since sylpheed uses the directory names and not directory
structure to create the subfolders. i.e

use .inboxes.local instead of inboxes/local

The bug can be scratched.

Bug#292273: sylpheed-claws-maildir-plugin: handle subdirectories

2005-01-25 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: sylpheed-claws-maildir-plugin
Version: 0.7-1
Severity: wishlist

Unless I missed somthing, the maildir plugin doesn't handle nested
maildirs. Each one needs to be added on its own, which means each one
has its own inbox/trash/... and reaching the inbox or seeing the nuber
of new messages requires to uncolapse the mailbos. This makes it very
cumbersome to handle more then a very small number of maildir
directories.

Bug#292270: gimageview: changing to full screen in image window with fit to window, image doesn't zoom

2005-01-25 Thread Micha Feigin
Package: gimageview
Version: 0.2.27-1
Severity: minor

When changing between full screen view and windowed view in the image
window (open in shared window option) and the zoom is set to fit to
window option, the image doesn't adjust the zoom automatically.

i.e from image window change to full screen, the image remains with the
windowed size, only when flipping to the next image it is zoomed to the
screen size. When changing back it remains with the zoom of the full
screen image until changing to the next image.
