Bug#687025: Display of Grammalecte extension messages is black on black

2012-09-08 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Source: libreoffice-kde
Version: 3.6.1-1
Severity: normal

When using Grammalecte extension (
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/grammalecte )
in conjunction with libreoffice-kde, its messages are displayed in black text
over black background. When
removing libreoffice-kde and using the default style, the messages are
displayed in black over pale yellow.
I remember seeing such messages in previous versions of libreoffice-kde (for
example for tooltips), it has
now been fixed and these tooltips are displayed in white over black. Not sure
who is the culprit between
libreoffice-kde and Grammalecte.

Bug#662983: When called by aptitude, apt-listbugs crash and precludes the package upgrade

2012-03-07 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Using the aptitude ncurses interface (invoking aptitude) with my usual
account. I type the root password when asked by aptitude.

However, I tried lated to upgrade my packages and I did not have any messages
by apt-listbugs, probably because the only bug that was found earlier was
closed ( http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662787 which has
been closed recently). Guess it will creep back when another bug turns up.

2011-11-09 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: iceweasel
Followup-For: Bug #648244

Version: 8.0-3

I have the same error message with one before that:

This one seems to be related to xul-ext-perspectives. However once removed,
iceweasel still does not start.

I now have another error message:

When I click on it, I have the previous message about initNotaries (to sum up,

a new layer of error)

Bug#638821: French translation of the Debconf settings screen is confusing

2011-08-22 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: dash
Version: 0.5.5.1-7.4
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n

The text of the screen says

The last line is very confusing. For me Par défaut without further
explanation implies it is the default shell for everyone, contradicting the
previous line.

It should at least be par défaut du système (if the setting is really what I
think it is).

Bug#624479: When using filtering by status, the article you want to read get skipped

2011-04-28 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: akregator
Version: 4:4.4.11.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

When you filter the articles by status with either unread or new, the article
you want to
read gets skipped without letting you the possibility to read it, The next
article
gets displayed in the lower pane, and the two articles disappear from the
articles list.

It is a regression from the behaviour in 4.4.7 where

1) the first article did not get skipped

2) The articles stayed in the upper pane

The behaviour can be mitigated in an unsatisfying manner if you select a longer
than defaut

Bug#556548: is this still a problem?

2011-02-21 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Oops, I don't have this TV anymore. And it works with my current TV. So I
cannot comment any further, sorry.

Le lundi 21 février 2011, Cyril Brulebois a écrit :
 Hi Nicolas,

unfortunately, Andres didn't Cc you, so I'm quoting his reply:

 Andres Cimmarusti acimmaru...@gmail.com (01/04/2010):
  Hi,

I was getting similar problems with a laptop I have, but it was
resolved a couple of radeon updates back.

Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver from squeeze
(also newer kernel and mesa)? (make sure you have libdrm-radeon1,
firmware-linux-nonfree and firmware-linux installed). If problem
persists, could you try getting the even newer one from sid (you'll
need a newer kernel as well, either 2.6.32-10 from sid or 2.6.33
from experimental). For this you will need to enable Kernel
modesetting. add *radeon* to /etc/modules and put *options radeon
  modeset=1* in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you'll probably need
  to create the file).

What Desktop environment are you running? If gnome I recommend you
don't do your dual screen setup in your xorg.conf file. If you
specify enough virtual size as you've done, gnome should do it
automatically for you (this is what happens with a couple of laptops
I have). You can also simply use xrandr. Simply put the right
command in a file in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ (I assume this would work
  perfectly in KDE and others).

  This is a valuable resource:
  http://www.jejik.com/articles/2008/10/setting_up_dual_monitors_system-wid
  e_with_xrandr_on_debian_lenny/

It would be nice to let us know how it goes with squeeze's or sid's X
 stack.

 KiBi.

Bug#598390: Bug solved for me

2011-02-20 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Since upgrading to kernel 2.6.37, the bug has disappeared for me (I had other
weird bugs involving my Radeon. Could have been related to buggy radeon
support in earlier kernels).

I do not know if it is related, but now, for me going full screen results in a
black screen whether I am on youtube or not, and I can get out of it by

Bug#598390: How to reproduce

2011-02-06 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
I have found that the bug is present (tested with Iceweasel 3.5.16) when you
watch a youtube video embedded in a third-party site, but if you watch the
same video in Youtube, the bug is NOT present.

Checked with the first video on this website:

Bug#603402: Exporting in PDF selected pages of long documents pick up the wrong pagerange

2010-11-13 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: libreoffice-writer
Version: 1:3.3.0~beta2-2
Severity: grave

Steps to reproduce

1. Take a very long document (100+ pages)
2. Export a specific subset of pages in PDF
3. Check if the pages exported are the correct one

LibreOffice export a wrong range of page (say you asked pages 355-360, you may
end getting 358-363).

I classify the severity as grave as if you do not check the PDF before sending,
you could end sending confidential data to people who should not see it. That
is indeed what happened to me when I found this bug.

Here is the URI of a file which is affected by this issue
http://www.pitonyak.org/AndrewMacro.odt

If you ask exporting page 355-360, you end up getting 358-363

Bug#601876: PDF printing does not work

2010-10-30 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: cups
Version: 1.4.4-6
Severity: important

Hi,

I just installed a new network printer (an HP OfficeJet 6500). It works for any
kind of files, but PDF.

I tried to print from GIMP and Okular. I tried PDF from various sources. The
print is dropped seemingly without reaching the printer (it does not blink).

I get the following error message in CUPS error.log :

- For okular

The updates notified by update-notifier stay in the notification area even
after they have been applied. So when another notification happen, they are

updating to remove the message from the notification area.

Bug#583951: My WLM account suddenly disappeared

2010-05-31 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: kopete
Version: 4:4.4.3-2
Severity: grave

As of today (31st May 2010), my WLM account seems to have been deleted. I
restored a backup ( ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete* and ~/.kde/share/config/kopete*)
from 2 days ago (29th May 2010) to no avail.

When I launch Kopete, it displays the following interesting tidbits in the
konsole :

kopete(4267)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde4Factory: The library
/usr/lib/kde4/kopete_history.so does not offer a qt_plugin_instance function.
Calling appendChild() on a null node does nothing.
Calling appendChild() on a null node does nothing.
kopete(4267)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde4Factory: The library
/usr/lib/kde4/kopete_wlm.so does not offer a qt_plugin_instance function.
kopete(4267)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde3Factory: The library
/usr/lib/kde4/kopete_wlm.so does not offer an init_kopete_wlm function.

However the History plugin still seems to work.

When I try to recreate a WLM account, the choice is still displayed, but when I
click on it I get an error as it seems to be unable to find the plugin. In the
konsole the following lines are displayed :

kopete(4574)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde4Factory: The library
/usr/lib/kde4/kopete_wlm.so does not offer a qt_plugin_instance function.
kopete(4574)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde3Factory: The library
/usr/lib/kde4/kopete_wlm.so does not offer an init_kopete_wlm function.

I do not see any recently upgraded package which seems to have been able to
break this plugin. However here is a list of recently upgraded packages :

Bug#575287: Xorg displays blank screen at boot since last upgrade

2010-03-24 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.12.192-2
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Since this upgrade, when booting, X fails to display. My monitor flickers
between sleep and active mode, but does not display a thing (see the Xorg.0.log
attached, it seems to append something everytime it flickers).

Trying to switch VT through ctrl-alt-Fx does not work. Reverting to 6.12.5
solves the problem.

It works fine here. Which flash app do you use? AFAIK there is no
API change in libasound. There should be no difference to 1.0.21 or
 1.0.22-1.

I tested it on http://www.youtube.com and http://www.dailymotion.com . On

 How long did you wait?

I waited for around 10 minutes

In my previous kernel the next message is the following one :

PM: Starting manual resume from disk

The kernel was still responsive and Magic SysRq keys still worked.

Then you may be able to get some useful information for us with SysRq-W.

Just did that. Not a big help, seems

Dump ftrace buffer
Dumping ftrace buffer
(ftrace buffer empty)

Note that the kernel is still responsive. Ctrl-Alt-Del makes it print some
messages and reboot. It just seems to stare waiting for something that never
comes.

Bug#558661: Grub hangs when AHCI is activated, but only after a Windows crash

2009-11-29 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.97+20091125-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

while booting Windows 7, I suffered a power failure. When I booted again, it
hanged indefinitely on the screen before the menu screen.

If I turn off AHCI in the BIOS, it works again. It may be related to bug
#550702, but that bug does not seem to be related to AHCI.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte EX58-UD4P .

using libgphoto2 would be better. If bluez was present on the computer,
it may provide access to pictures in the same way it provide access to
USB mass storage devices if you provide the mountpoint.

Le lundi 28 janvier 2008, Raúl Sánchez Siles a écrit :
   Hello Nicolas:

As I have checked this is the current status of koffice-doc-* packages:

   · koffice-doc: uncompressed size 293M
   · koffice-doc-html: uncompressed size 5140k

The first one is intended just for developers since it contains koffice
internals and API documentation. The second one as states in its
 description:

By default the KOffice applications only provide their documentation in
KDE docbook format, which can only be read by Konqueror or KHelpCenter.
This package(koffice-doc-html) provides all of the KOffice documentation
converted to HTML format so it can be read with any web browser.

This is, each koffice application package contains its help in docbook
format and you the possibility to install the koffice-doc-html package so
you will also have them in html format.

Currently, koffice-doc and koffice-doc-html are suggestions when
installing koffice, so you could remove them safely.

Maybe this wishlist could be translated into remove koffice-doc
suggestion from koffice metapackage, or maybe you are satisfied with the
explanation and you feel like closing the bug ;) . In this latter case, you
could send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In any case, we will be happy to hear feedback from you.

   Thanks for your interest.

Thank you for your answer. But is koffice HTML documentation (as provided by
koffice-doc-html) still integrated with KHelpCenter ? If true, this bug can
be closed for me.

Description: digital photo management application for KDE
An easy to use and powerful digital photo management
application, which makes importing, organizing and manipulating
digital photos a snap. An interface is provided to connect to
your digital camera, preview the images and download and/or
 delete them.
 .
The digiKam built-in image editor makes the common photo correction
a simple task. The image editor is extensible via plugins and,
the digikamimageplugins project has been merged to digiKam core
since release 0.9.2, all useful image editor plugins are available
 in the base installation.
 .
digiKam can also make use of the KIPI image handling plugins to
extend its capabilities even further for photo manipulations,
import and export, etc. The kipi-plugins package contains many
 very useful extentions.
 .
digiKam is based in part on the work of the Independent JPEG Group.

Bug#447491: Access to external devices from the desktop is broken when using UUID

2007-10-21 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: kdebase
Severity: normal

I have an external USB drive. In order for it to always have the same
mountpoint, I used its UUID in /etc/fstab :

UUID=fc264689-4306-4adf-bc9e-862fd642c3c9/media/usb1 auto
rw,user,noauto 0 0

I then created a new device on my KDE desktop to access it. Here is the
content :

[Desktop Entry]
Dev=UUID=fc264689-4306-4adf-bc9e-862fd642c3c9
Encoding=UTF-8
Icon=hdd_mount
MountPoint=/media/usb1
ReadOnly=false
Type=FSDevice
UnmountIcon=hdd_unmount

If I try to mount it, the icon will not change. If I try to access the
disk by clicking on the device, it complains saying the device is either
unmounted or busy and then fails. However, if I go to /media/usb1, I can
see
it has
worked, as the disk is now mounted. So, 3 things do not work as expected
:

1/ The icon does not change when I mount the disk
2/ There should be no error message as the disk is mounted
3/ I cannot access the disk from the desktop

 Nicolas,

 Thanks for your bug report.

Although those packages should be available for amd64:

 http://packages.debian.org/sid/libkexiv2-3/amd64/download
 http://packages.debian.org/sid/libkdcraw2/amd64/download

What does it state when you try and `apt-get install digikam`?

apt-get install digikam

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
digikam: Depends: libkdcraw1 but it is not installable
Depends: libkexiv2-1 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

Bug#435669: Try to split koffice-doc package

2007-08-02 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: koffice-doc
Version: 1:1.6.3-2
Severity: wishlist

Koffice-doc is a huge package (almost 700 MB now). Upgrade often fails
when partition space
is limited as apt has to decompress the whole new package before
replacing the old files. Moreover, as all koffice apps are not always
installed on a given computer, some of the docs (the ones for
uninstalled apps) are useless. Please consider splitting the package in
smaller packages on a per app basis.

When upgrading to 1.6.10-4 from 1.6.10-3, the hplip package breaks with
this message :

Well, at this poing the package is mostly installed, so we can debug what
is broken even if it is not cooperating much and pestering you with error
 messages.

Make sure no hpiod/hpssd is running (kill them if you have to), and do
 this:

 export LANG=C
 export LC_ALL=C
 sh -x /etc/init.d/hplip start

 Seems to have worked.

 Do a /etc/init.d/hplip stop.

Check if any hpssd or hpiod are still running, if yes, tell me so, and kill
 them to continue the testing.

hpssd was still running. killed it

Then, install the package again (latest version). It should just work.

Install works. It says the package is in correct state. However it still does
not work.

If it doesn't, edit /etc/init.d/hplip and add the above exports right after
the comments at the top of the file, and try again using dpkg --pending
 --configure.

I added the comments, but as the package is said to be in a correct state,
dpkg do not do anything. Here athe messages I get in syslog when I try to
print something :

apps in the 32 bits chroot. Only the packages of my 64 bits environment were
upgraded. I then tried to upgrade my 32 bits package, but to no avail.

Bug#409302: update-java-alternatives is broken

2007-02-01 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: java-common
Version: 0.25
Severity: grave

After migrating from java 1.5 to java6, my jre was not
working anymore in my browser, complaining it could not find the java
binary. After following the symlinks, I found out that /etc/alternatives
was still pointing to java 1.5.
/usr/share/doc/sun-java6-bin/README.alternatives said that I should type
(this should probably been done automagically during upgrade and I
guess it has been designed to be this way, but it seems flawed)
:

update-java-alternatives --jre java-6-sun

But the script does not work (it only prints the help messages).

Bug#387190: Sound does not work after upgrading from 0.098-2 to 0.100-1

2006-09-12 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: udev
Version: 0.093-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

after upgrading from 0.098-2 to 0.100-1, sound stopped working. Seems
the apps could not find anything in /dev. The emu10k1 module was not
loaded anymore. Loading it manually did not change anything. But the
hardware was still recognized by lspci and lshw :

01:07.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev
07)

So I tried to downgrade udev to the testing version (0.093-1) (I do not
have anymore the 0.098-2 version). And it worked. So I guess the problem
lie in 0.100-1. Any idea ?

After installing the plugin, if I try to test any flash webpage (such as

Bug#344148: Sorry for my lack of response

2005-12-25 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
I was busy with christmas preparations, so I did not look again at this issue.
However, I got a nice christmas present when I tried again the upgrade. The
crash had disappeared. I apologize for the creation of this bug. I guess you
can close it.

Merry christmas to every member of the X Strike Force,

That output doesn't tell us anything. Does it crash?

Yes. That's the last line of the xorg log.

Bug#338903: Calendar should be properly localized

2005-11-13 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: bsdmainutils
Version: 6.1.2
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n

Cal always switches from Julian calendar to Gregorian calendar in 1752.
However, this change occured at this date only in the UK and its
possessions. This modification should depend of the locale used on the
system. For example, in most of continental Western Europe, the change
should occur in 1582. You can find a list of dates by country at this
URL :

http://www.norbyhus.dk/calendar.html

Yes, this bug report is totally useless.

Bug#312194: K3b bug

2005-10-06 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Le Jeudi 6 Octobre 2005 22:03, Francois Marier a écrit :
 Hi Nicolas and Grahame,

I cannot reproduce your problem with K3b but I was searching the upstream
bug database and I found a few similar bugs that have been fixed already:

   http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105489
   http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77378

Is this problem still reproducible in the latest version (0.12.4a) ?

Maybe you would also like to have a look at these bugs to see if they are
similar to what you are experiencing:

   http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109534
   http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89154

It does not happen anymore. As far as I can tell, it was fixed for me when I
identified a faulty DVD drive as the cause of another bug and changed it
without checking if k3b was still the cause. Could also have been something
totally different as I did not try to launch k3b between June and october.

Everytime I launch Kaffeine, I am greeted by the first-time wizard which

Then it crashes on exit and when I click to make a screenshot. It also
crashes randomly sometimes. Each time KCrash says the backtrace is not

This does not happen on other test systems (Firefox 1.0.6/Windows and
Firefox 1.0.6 under Kubuntu 5.04)

I noticed in the changelog that there were changes involving freetype in
the Firefox 1.0.5-1 package. It may be caused by that. The kubuntu
installation used 2.1.7-2.3 while we use 2.1.10-1

Bug#311481: Hal hangs the computer at shutdown

2005-06-21 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Le Mardi 21 Juin 2005 10:01, Sjoerd Simons a écrit :
That basically does the same as hal does for polling your drive. So it's
interested to see if it gets stuck in D too.. For best effect, run when
 hald is disabled..

1° /dev/hdc is my CD burner /dev/hdd is my dvd player. I sometimes had
difficulties reading some CDs on my dvd player (corrupt data...) which passed
on my CD burner.

2° As this was not very frequent, I did not investigate the matter further

3° The test. It got stuck in D after making 8 polls (4 times each drive). The
last message displayed was detect disc on /dev/hdd. So, faulty hardware is
likely the cause of all this.

Thanks for your work,

I do not know exactly what you are talking about. I guess it is the
process status. Anyway, after 10 minutes of uptime, i have this output
  for ps ax| grep hald

  5357 ?Ds 0:00 /usr/sbin/hald --drop-privileges

Ok, D state means that hal is currently ``inside'' a kernel call that
 hasn't returned yet.

Can you run hald manually with:
   strace hald --daemon=no --drop-privileges
 and
   hald --daemon=no --drop-privileges

Wich will give you a big flood.. I need the last part of output of both,
 before hanging in D

 With what exit code ?

I apologize. My previous answer was totally wrong. I stopped and restarted it
as a normal user and as root multiple times and got confused about what was
exactly going on.

I made again the test as root.

It displays Stopping Hardware abstraction layer: forever. Then goes back to
the prompt on the same line than the message. And afterwards hald is still
running. So basically shutting it down manually does nothing.

I have also found something else. If I shut down my computer just after I
started it (precisely before having logged in kdm and using the kdm shutdown
menu), hald stops quickly

By the way, I just realized that having a daemon called HAL unwilling to shut
down on my computer is somehow funny.

grep hald

Bug#312194: k3b hangs at startup

2005-06-06 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: k3b
Version: 0.11.20-2
Severity: grave

k3b hangs at startup when the Splash Screen says verifying CD drives
(not sure of what it says in English). Same as root. k3bsetup works only
as root (hangs as normal user without message) but does not find any
obvious problem.

Bug#289895: I confirm this

2005-05-26 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
I just installed a fresh box with the DMA on the DVD apparently turned off. On
first launch Kaffeine tries to turn the DMA on using hdparm and fail because
of access rights. Eventually, both the Kaffeine and the hdparm process
freezes.

If I manually turn the DMA on, the Kaffeine GUI launch a first-time wizard,
which check various things, especially the DMA status of the DVD player. It
says everything is ok and then proceed normally.

Afterwards, Kaffeine never use hdparm anymore as far as I can tell.
