Bug#804314: [rapidsvn] ssh-askpass dialog doesn't show anymore
Package: rapidsvn Version: 0.12.1dfsg-3 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Since an update ssh-askpass dialog doesn't popup anymore during updates and commits, rapidsvn hangs and I'm forced to close it. As a workaround I run rapidsvn from the terminal, in this case I'm able to enter the ssh password directly in the terminal window. Rapidsvn seems to be the only program with this problem, and if I run ssh-askpass from the terminal the popup window appears correctly. Sorry, I forgot to say that the printer was initially configured using the CUPS web interface. But it was probably a year ago and I don't remember the details. Bug#757077: Fwd: printer-driver-gutenprint: Updating ppd in printer queues during package updates
Package: printer-driver-gutenprint Version: 5.2.10-3 Severity: wishlist Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I updated printer-driver-gutenprint and my printer stopped working, the error in printing job said "The PPD version (5.2.9) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.10.". * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I deleted the printer and I reinstalled because it was impossible to change the printer ppd. I selected a new one using the web interface, saved, but when I looked again at the prenter's settings it was back to the original outdated ppd. * What was the outcome of this action? That did the trick and the printer is working again, but then looking at the logs I noticed a message saying that running cups-genppdupdate.5.2 would have fixed the problem. * What outcome did you expect instead? I was wondering if it would be possible to run cups-genppdupdate.5.2 after the package update, either automatically or interactively (i.e. asking the user if he/she wants to run the ppd updater). Also, I was wondering why it wasn't possible to change the ppd using the web interface. Here are the relevant logs. Bug#739443: Same problem with Debian Testing on a HP Probook 4540s laptop.
I have exactly the same problem but the crash is triggered by opening a new tab in Chromium. I'm using Debian Testing with the 3.12-1-amd64 Kernel on a HP Probook 4540s laptop with the following video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Thames [Radeon HD 7550M/7570M/7650M] I also have the same segfault error and backtrace in my Xorg.0.log unfortunately I reverted to the 1:13.12-3 drivers and restarted my laptop a few times so I have lost the log file. If you need me to do some test I can reinstall the 1:14.1~beta1.3-1 drivers. Thanks, Paolo
Bug#728135: More information.
Hi, I can confirm the the bug is still present in kernel 3.11-2-amd64 but it works fine in kernel 3.12-rc7-amd64. I haven't had a chance to test 3.12-trunk-amd64 (which is the only 3.12 available in my repositories) because it fails to compile the proprietary ATI fglrx kernel module and I would have to reconfigure xorg. Thanks, Paolo

Bug#606414: [upower] Same problem here probably caused by the battery
Package: upower Version: 0.9.15-3 --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I have the same problem and I believe it's caused by the battery, upowerd runs pretty much all the time at 50% to 90% CPU. If I monitor upowerd I can see that the battery state is continuously updated: # upower --monitor Monitoring activity from the power daemon. Press Ctrl+C to cancel. When the battery icon is visible it reports the battery status as charging, 97%. The battery is never reported as 100% full, even if the laptop has been plugged to the AC power all night. If I kill the upowerd process the battery icon stops flipping on and off, it's visible all the time and it reports the status as charging, 97% (fixed). This is very annoying because, since several packages depend on upowerd, removing it is not an option and on Debian Testing and there is no other version in the repositories. All I can do to work around this problem is to either work without a battery or kill the upowerd process when it starts hogging the cpu time. Bug#650259: [gnome-power-manager] Battery icon in gnome panel keeps appearing and disappearing every 20-30 sec.
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 3.0.2-3 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Battery icon in gnome panel keeps appearing and disappearing every 20-30 sec. The battery icon has the lightning rod as if charging and if I click on it it says "Laptop Battery 100%". This is especially annoying because the battery icon is the right most in the gnome shell top bar and all the icons keep shifting to the left every 20-30 seconds. Sometimes I try to click on the volume icon but because of the shift I click on the network manager. Bug#625806: kernel erroneously reports continuous changes in the connected displays
Hi Jonathan, Thanks for looking in to this, I now use testing (wheezy) with kernel 3.1.0-1-686-pae and everything works fine. In general I had no problem with display geometry with the 3.x kernels, I tried all the available ones in testing, sid and experimental since 3.x became available. Only a couple of times, after updating some gnome packages the display size is set to 1024x768 instead of 1366x768. Just that, no flickering and no crash. I assume that it's a gnome issue since it happened only after upgrading gnome related packages and a reboot solved the problem in both cases. This is unrelated, I've been trying all the available kernels because in the new gnome 3 interface (gnome shell) I can see the battery icon appearing and disappearing every 30 seconds or so, as if after charging, the battery starts discharging again for a few seconds and then recharging again. I haven't reported this yet because I still don't understand which package causes this issue. Regards, Paolo. It doesn't seem to be the case, however I forgot to mention this is not the first time I upgrade postgres on this machine, sure I did it from 8.3 -> 8.4 -> 9.0 -> 9.1, perhaps the upgrade script kept importing some old settings from the previous version. I haven't tried that, after I got the error the first time (after the pg_upgradecluster from 9.0 to 9.1) I purged version 9.0 and retried to start postgres 9.1 but I got the same error. Rebooting the machine did not help either. I don't know if this is relevant but the converted cluster contained thousands of users and 2 databases, one about 15 GB and the other about 40 GB. To fix the problem I had to purge and reinstall 9.1 (erasing all the data) and restored the database from a backup (Note that at this point I restored only the smaller of the databases). If you want I can make some more test this weekend, in example I can purge 9.1, reinstall 9.0, restore the databases and try to upgrade again to 9.1. In this case, is there a a recommended debug/verbose mode for pg_upgradecluster? Regards, Paolo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#637908: More information.
Hi Nobuhiro, Thanks for checking, I made a few more tests and here is the results: 1. I activate bluetooth in gnome (gnome-bluetooth) and I scan for my blackberry phone (8900), the system crashes and I have to power off the laptop to restart; 2. I boot the laptop without loading gnome and from the console I run hcitool scan. After a few seconds hcitool prints my phone name and mac address and then the system immediately crashes. Right after the crash I can see lots of output in the console but unfortunately, it doesn't get logged in /var/log/messages. One note on tests 1 and 2. If the phone's bluetooth is switched off and there are no other devices in range everything works fine (no crash). 3. I start a gnome session and turn on the bluetooth, if I turn on the bluetooth in my phone and I attempt to connect to the laptop a crash occurs, the laptop is still responsive for a while but the system is unstable. This time some of the output gets logged, See attached messages.txt. The relevant logs start at line 175 [31580.468814]. The last line refers to when I unplugged the usb dongle, afterwards the system became unresponsive and I had to power off. The bluetooth device is a very small usb bluetooth dongle and if I'm not mistaken it should be an Asus. Since the bluetooth dongle is unusable on this system, I have no problem mailing it to you if you wish to test it. Please, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Bug#626812: [icedove] Same problem with 3.1.11-1
Package: icedove Version: 3.1.11-1 --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I updated a few packages last night and this morning Icedove doesn't work anymore. The output I get running icedove from the command line is: paolo@saturn:~$ icedove /usr/share/themes/Shiki-Brave/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:126: Murrine configuration option "gradients" is no longer supported and will be ignored. The solution suggested by Marco (LD_BIND_NOW=1 icedove) breaks Enigmail and possibly other plugins. Bug#619457: Problem with kernel 2.6.38

Bug#619457: Update.
A couple of days ago I installed the latest experimental kernel (3.6.39) and since then everything is fine, no more crashes. I believe it may be a bug in the video card kernel module (perhaps i915) that causes gnome-settings-daemon to crash. If you have no objections I would like to reassign this to the kernel maintainers. Thanks, Paolo. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#619457: Info from 31 march
Please, note that this information is from the 31st of march 2011, I attempted to send it several times but it was always ignored: I just installed kernel 2.6.38-2-686-bigmem and now again it crashes all the time. The results of lsmod for both 2.6.38-1 [4] (which crashed only once) and 2.6.38-2 [5] (which crashes every time) seem different. So far different kernels different behavior: 2.6.32No crash 2.6.37Always crashes 2.6.38-1 No crash (crashed once) 2.6.38-2 Always crashes Also, I noticed that, when it crashes, in gnome's Monitor Preferences I have two monitors but no external monitor is actually connected to the laptop [1]. The second monitor is set as off, if I set it as on the size is 848x480 [2]. Making the screenshot I get a desktop image of 2214x768 although the lcd panel of this laptop is 1366x768 [3]. I'm not really sure this is a gnome, xorg or kernel bug, please reassign it if you think it's not a a gnome issue. Thank you and have a nice day, Paolo. Bug#619457: Other info.
It now crashes also when returning from the screensaver, .xsession-errors contains the following lines: The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'. (Details: serial 5605 error_code 8 request_code 150 minor_code 21) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) Also, I tried to send more infomation on the 31st of march about this bug but the info never appeared in the bug report. I tried to resend the email several times but it seems it is just ignored. Bug#619457: More information
I have more information on this bug. 1. First I have to correct my previous update, the line: 2.6.38-1 Always crashes Should have been: 2.6.38-2 Always crashes 2. Since I last reported the bug, both kernel, xorg and gnome-settings-manager have been updated but the bug is still present and GSM crashes every time shortly after login. Here is the versions of the packages: gnome-settings-daemon_2.30.2-3_i386.deb linux-image-686-bigmem_2.6.38+33_i386.deb xserver-xorg_1%3a7.6+6_i386.deb xserver-xorg-video-intel_2%3a2.14.0-4_i386.deb 3. I found a way to prevent the crash most of the times: a. Login on gnome as usual; b. As soon as gnome starts loading press ctrl+alt+f1 to switch to a text only console; c. Wait until gnome finishes loading (Until the hard disk led stops blinking); d. Switch back to the graphic console with ctrl+alt+f8; Thank you, Paolo. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#619972: [gnome-power-manager] Laptop left with blank screen after resuming from suspend
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.32.0-2 Severity: grave - --- Please enter the report below this line. --- On a HP ProBook 4510s, the power management is set to suspend when the lid is closed while running on battery. When the lid is reopened gnome never resumes normal operation, the screen is left blank with only the mouse pointer showing. I tried switching between consoles (ctrl+alt+f1) then back to gnome (ctrl+alt+f7) but it didn't help. All I can do is switching to a new console, login as root and reboot the laptop. Bug#597600: Acknowledgement (postgresql-9.0: pg_upgrade fails because it can't find pg_upgrade_support.so)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I managed to run pg_upgrade after installing: postgresql-server-dev-8.4 postgresql-server-dev-9.0 and relative dependencies. Perhaps the script should stop when it doesn't find pg_config, instead it just displays the following lines: sh: /usr/lib/postgresql/8.4/bin/pg_config: No such file or directory sh: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.0/bin/pg_config: No such file or directory Then continues with the consistency checks so the user has the impression that everything is fine. Three more notes: 1. I had to run the script from /tmp because the postgres user didn't have permission to create delete_old_cluster.sh in my home directory. Perhaps it should be saved in /var/lib/postgresql/9.0/main/ rather than ./ 2. postgresql-9.0 installs two postgresql.conf, I find it confusiong. Are both necessary? If I'm not mistaken 8.4 was installing just one in /var/lib/postgresql/9.0/main/ /etc/postgresql/9.0/main/postgresql.conf /var/lib/postgresql/9.0/main/postgresql.conf 3. pg_upgrade was failing to start the old 8.4 server because it looks for postgres 8.4 config file postgresql.conf in /var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main/ instead of /etc/postgresql/8.4/main/ The command that failed was: "/usr/lib/postgresql/8.4/bin/pg_ctl" -l "/dev/null" -D "/var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main" -o "-p 5432 -c autovacuum=off -c autovacuum_freeze_max_age=20" start >> "/dev/null" 2>&1 To solve this I had to copy postgresql.conf in /var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main/. Bug#572951: udev: Upgrading from Lenny to Squeeze breaks network, cdrom on Sun Netra T1 105
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Marco, Sorry for not replying sooner, unfortunately the the LOM port of the Netra T1 broke (RX works, TX doesn't), so it's very hard to test different configurations. If the machine doesn't initialize the network the only option I have is to remove the hard disk and edit the configuration on a different server. We have another Netra T1 but it's in a box and I didn't have the time to install it yet, as soon as I have any news I will let you know. Have a nice sunday, Paolo. Bug#575134: nautilus: properties window extends outside of the screen limit
Package: nautilus Version: 2.28.4-1 Severity: minor On files with a large number of keywords the properties window extends outside of the screen limit. In my case, it happens in faxes I receive by email. It seems the fax service provider is using an ocr and is saving the resulting text in the "keywords" field of the tiff file. Maybe the document data tab should have a scrollbar or the keyword text could be limited to a few lines. I attach a screenshot of the defect, please note that the scrambled text is just the result of ocr on a poor quality fax. Bug#572951: udev: Upgrading from Lenny to Squeeze breaks network, cdrom on Sun Netra T1 105
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Marco, Thanks for the hint. As I said, deleting 70-persistent-net.rules solves the network problem but every time I reboot the server /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules is recreated and at the next reboot the network interfaces don't work anymore. As a temporary workaround I moved /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules so the rules for the network interfaces are not recreated. I believe the fact the two interfaces share the same mac address has something to do with this. When I will have some spare time I will look into a real solution (and for /dev/hdc too). Thanks again and have a nice day, Paolo. Bug#571939: aptitude: Same problem on squeeze
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.11.11-1+b2 Severity: normal I'm experiencing the same problem on squeeze sparc64. Aptitude always segfaults everytime I quit, with one exception: if I open it and close it without updating (or doing anything else) it exits just fine. Bug#523048: Debian Bug report #523048
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I can confirm this bug is still present in nautilus 2.8.4-1. If I have gnome assistive technologies enabled nautilus becomes extremely slow working on large directories. In example, if I try to browse /usr/bin, which contains over 3600 files, nautilus hangs with the processor running at 100% for minutes. I'm not sure how long it would take because after 15 minutes I usually kill the process. The problem is also on delete, if the thrash has lots of files it takes forever to delete files in any folder. I took me weeks to understand this was related to assistive technologies, until yesterday I was pondering to switch to a different file manager thinking my laptop (P4 mobile, 3GHz, 1GB RAM) wasn't up to the job anymore. If it's not possible to fix it perhaps it shouldn't be enabled by default (not sure this is the case but I can't recall ever enabling it) and there should be a warning that performance will possibly degrade. Please, let me know if I need to open a new bug report or I should post more details about my system. Bug#566706: gnome-panel: Gnome panel crashes when unlocking screen from screen saver
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Sorry for my late reply, I now have problems triggering the crash. I disabled the "lock screen..." option in gnome screen saver settings to check if it the problem was related to the password dialog. Now it doesn't crash anymore, not even enabling the lock screen option again. I attach a backtrace generated by bug buddy when it reported the bug to gnome.org a few days ago. Since at that time I didn't install any of the needed debug symbols I doubt it could be very helpful. Additionally, after bug-buddy reported the bug I received an email indicating that this bug is a duplicate of this: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597914 I will keep monitoring this machine hoping to trigger the crash again, if it happens I will post a full backtrace. Bug#545804: ssh-askpass-fullscreen: Doesn't display on top of other windows
Package: ssh-askpass-fullscreen Version: 0.3-2 Severity: important ssh-askpass-fullscreen login window doesn't open on top of the other windows making it difficult to notice that a password is requested. I never used this package before but I assume the window should show on top of the others and stay always on top. A few notes: - even if the login window is below the others it still captures the keyboard input. - it's still possible to switch between applications and interact with them. i.e. clicking on links in the browser and other programs, using the gnome windows list, etc; - focusing (clicking) on the login window brings it to the front and from that moment it's not possible to interact with other applications (normal behaviour). Bug#544394: linux-image-2.6.30-1-686: Console terminal flickers after boot using radeonfb
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-1-686 Version: 2.6.30-6 Severity: normal After upgrading from Lenny to Testing the console starts flickering at boot making the text only console unusable. I'm not sure it's a kernel-image 2.6.30 bug but blacklisting radeonfs the problem disappars. Details: - Grub loads and displays properly; - Right after the boot process starts, the console displays a few lines properly then it starts flickering; The flickering is not very strong and although the text is unreadable I can still see the text lines (they look like tv static). - X starts properly, no flickering; - If I switch to different text only terminals from X (ctrl+alt+f*) the text in the terminals is flickering; - blacklisting radeonfb the problem disappears; - I tried to pass different parameters to the kernel at boot time in an attempt to force a different refresh rate but it didn't help: video=radeonfb:1024x768...@60, video=radeonfb:1024x...@60, video=radeonfb:1024x...@60-16, video=radeonfb:1024x...@16-60, video=radeonfb. - Without the "video=radeonfb" parameter makes no difference (I assume radeonfb is loaded by default). - I tried to upgrade console-tools to the latest version in unstable but it made no difference; - I tried to reconfigure with dpkg-reconfigure the following packages but it made no difference: initramfs-tools, console-tools. - I tried to rebuild grub.cfg with grub-mkconfig but it made no difference; - This is probably not specific of this kernel package because booting with other kernels makes no difference. I tried to boot using the kernel I've been using in lenny prior upgrading to testing: 2.6.26 Lenny and 2.6.29 Lenny backports. - I'm not sure is related, but in /var/log/messages I have lots of errors like the following: "glxinfo:9514 freeing invalid memtype" and the fps measured with glxgears is lower than it was before upgrading. Please, let me know if you need a picture of the text flickering or any other info. Bug#536716: linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.1-686: cpufreq_ondemand cpu scaling module not working
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.1-686 Version: 2.6.30-1~bpo50+1 Severity: normal Dear Package Mantainer, cpufreq_ondemand doesn't work in this laptop with this kernel. In previous kernels (up to 2.6.29) was working fine but I hed to add it in /etc/modules. It seems cpufreq_ondemand module is either missing or compiled in the kernel. CPU scaling on this laptop's processor (p4 mobile 3ghz) works only with p4_clockmod, cpufreq_ondemand seems to be the only one which automatically scales the frequency based on cpu load. cpufreq_conservative doesn't work.
