Dear Helmut,

Thank you for taking care of this. Minor typo I noticed by having a
quick look at your diff, in your changelog entry:

Bug#996531: tp-smapi-dkms: Loading thinkpad_ec and/or tp_smapi causes kernel oops

Dear Maintainer,

While working fine on kernel 5.10, starting with 5.14, when the thinkpad_ec or
tp_smapi modules are loaded, a kernel oop occurs.

Bug#954311: Not just rendering issues...

2020-04-08 Thread Pascal Giard
Thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

Apparently I missed the transition from intel_drv to modesetting_drv.

After switching to modesetting (instead of intel) and purging
xserver-xorg-video-intel, the workaround in /etc/drirc is no longer needed.

Bug#954311: Not just rendering issues...

2020-04-05 Thread Pascal Giard
Thanks A LOT for the /etc/drirc trick, it fixed the problem detailed below
for me.
Took me over an hour to figure out what was wrong and to end up on this bug
report.

I have a Thinkpad T480 (Intel UHD 620).

The new iris driver causes all my video players to crash (e.g., VLC or mpv)
and prevents Zoom from converting my recorded sessions.

Bug#935653: 100% CPU usage for a long time

2019-10-11 Thread Pascal Giard
Dear Balint,

I confirm that, like Thibaut Girka, I actually get tons of "sanity check

Bug#935653: 100% CPU usage for a long time

2019-10-10 Thread Pascal Giard
Hi Balint,

Thank you for looking into this.

Running "time strace -f -c unattended-upgrade --debug --verbose" it became
obvious that unattended-upgrade was going through ALL the experimental
packages in order to, in the end, ignore them (priority), causing a
significant delay.

Disabling experimental from my sources:
I don't have the time to let it go all the way through yet, but the number
of stat calls and errors is still significant.
And a lot of time appears to be spent "recursively adjusting dependencies",
e.g.,
falling back to adjusting asymptote's dependencies recursively
falling back to adjusting asymptote-doc's dependencies recursively
falling back to adjusting binutils's dependencies recursively
falling back to adjusting binutils-common's dependencies recursively
falling back to adjusting binutils-x86-64-linux-gnu's dependencies
recursively
falling back to adjusting cpp-9's dependencies recursively
etc.

Note this may very well be expected behavior. That I can't tell.

Bug#935653: 100% CPU usage for a long time

2019-10-09 Thread Pascal Giard
Dear maintainer,

Recently unattended-upgrades started to consume a LOT more CPU time than
before.

Similarly to the original report, I looked at what strace gets in terms of
statistics, here it is:
strace: Process 5193 detached
% time seconds usecs/call callserrors syscall
-- --- --- - -
100,004,762247 2 2288315 1703451 stat
  0,000,51 0 100 read
  0,000,15 020 openat
  0,000,08 020 close
  0,000,05 020 fstat
  0,000,05 020 fcntl
-- --- --- - -
100.004,762331 2288495 1703451 total

Looks odd, no?

It is so bothering that for now I've disabled unattended-upgrades on all 3
laptops. Manual update + upgrade requires a fraction of the resources
currently required by unattended-upgrades.

I hope this issue gets sorted out. Please let me know if there's something
else I can do to provide useful information.

Thanks,

2019-02-19 Thread Pascal Giard

Dear Maintainer,

It's currently not possible to upgrade mate-utils to 1.20.2-2 on a number
of archs, e.g., amd64, because mate-utils-common 1.20.2-2 is not available
for archs other than i386.

This issue is also visible in the PTS [1], see excuses preventing the
migration from unstable to testing.

Bug#903514: Gimp issues

2018-07-18 Thread Pascal Giard
Dear maintainer,

In case that may shed some light...

Before having gimp-python installed, gimp would start.
I could modify images and save them in the native gimp format.
Attempting to export to png or jpg would freeze though.
(With the exportation processes visible with `ps` but not doing anything,
it appears).

After installing gimp-python, attempting to start gimp, I get stuck on the
splash screen with status message "Interrogation des nouveaux greffons"
(python-eval.py).
Sorry, attempting to start with LC_ALL=C doesn't work; this loosely
translates to "Querying new plugins". Killing gimp, either of the following
process remains active
/usr/bin/python2 /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/py-slice.py -gimp 12 11 -query 0
/usr/bin/python2 /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/python-eval.py -gimp 12 11

Then please update the README.Debian file accordingly as it implies that
Gtk2 is still supported.

Bug#889137: python-matplotlib: Missing Gtk backend

2018-02-02 Thread Pascal Giard
Package: python-matplotlib
Version: 2.1.1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Version > 2.0 of the package does not include the necessary .so files for
the Gtk2 backend.

Attempting to use the Gtk2 backend with the following:
matplotlib.use('GtkAgg')

Results in the following error:

 Hi,

the following vulnerability was published for sox.

 CVE-2014-8145[0]:
 two heap-based buffer overflows

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id in your changelog entry.

 For further information see:

 [0] https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2014-8145
 [1] http://www.ocert.org/advisories/ocert-2014-010.html

Patches are not yet attached/referenced in the advisory, but should be
referenced in upstream git repository soon.

Hi,
I've a package ready for wheezy-security and I've notified the security team.

However, before uploading it I've been waiting for their permission as
the documentation says. I have yet to hear from the team.

Note that I have not prepared a package for oldstable, I am suppose to
do that as well?

It is being depricated in the next upstream version anyway

You should also remove the build deps:

If you can fix it, go ahead. Could you send a patch to the upstream?

I'm confused. I was unable to reproduce your issue.
I've created myself a package[1] based on your debian packaging files
and the single-file version of simplepie 1.3.1 [2].

I've then updated 2 of the two patches (cache_directory.patch and
include_idn.patch) and ditched
assigning_the_return_value_of_new_by_reference_is_now_deprecated.patch
.

I had created the latter with a naive 'sed -e s/=/=/g' and it
caused a error at runtime[3]. I didn't bother to investigate, I simply
removed it from debian/series and it just worked.

I might be missing something fundamental, I've only tested using tt-rss.

We have collaborated in many projects already and Alexandre has shown
many qualities very valuable to Debian. He is curious, technically

Oftentimes he has provided insightful comments and brought simple yet
efficient solutions to non-trivial problems. He also values and
promotes the spirit of libre software.

Recently, he has taken over maintainership of two packages. While he
also took over upstream development of restartd, there is an active

latter improving the integration of the software into Debian. His

Bug#676167: WARN alsa: can't encode 0-bit Unknown or not applicable

It'd be interesting to know which driver causes the segfault on platforms
without ALSA support; it might be alsa there too, or one of the following.

Apparently it is the oss format itself, which passes NULL to fileno().

I've attached a patch to replace the 01_default_audio_driver_fallback.patch
file introduced in 14.4.0-3. It restricts using the new try_device() to
pulseaudio, where it seems to work well and solves the original problem (bug
#664301). It's not ideal of course, as users of OSS still have to manually
 uninstall libsox-fmt-alsa or set AUDIODRIVER.

Pascal, would you consider replacing the original patch with this one?

Wow, somehow that one went totally fell through.

I will surely do soon (hopefully this evening).

I'm currently working on moving to format 3.0 quilt but I'm facing few
issues still (will post about this on the upstream ML).
I'll probably just push a 14.4.0-5 with it (14.4.0-4 went to experimental).

Cheers,

No, there are no pending changes upstream. We are vaguely aware of the
problem though, as there have been a lot of deprecated-declaration warnings
for a while now (compiling on current Debian testing, there are warnings
 about
 av_close_input_file, avcodec_decode_audio3, avcodec_encode_audio,
 avcodec_open, av_find_stream_info, av_new_stream, av_open_input_file,
 av_set_parameters, av_write_header, error_recognition, url_fclose,
url_ferror, url_fopen). There is very limited developer interest to fix
this and other problems/limitations in the driver, so upstream has
considered completely removing it and referring users to the command-line
tools, which can then be connected to SoX via pipes.

Seems to be the time for a decision ...

Hi Reinhard,
 Thanks for reporting.

As Ulrich mentioned, that issue is being discussed upstream.

Hi Yelloprotoss,

I'm not sure how to deal with this...
Is being a bit slow a bug?
Is there really a connection with arecord or it's simply a matter of
having a big wav file?
Is this a regression i.e. was it faster before?

I'm tempted to set this bug as wishlist instead of minor.

More feedback would be appreciated.

I'm a bit puzzled by your bug report...
The patch you provided is not required for Debian unless I'm missing
something. I've modified the Makefile.am from upstream long time ago.
Am I missing something?

That being said, unfortunately, I haven't played Atris for a long
time. The delay it took me to answer your report might be a good
indication that I should put Atris up for adoption.

I've gotten in touch with upstream a very long time ago. He was very
cooperative and seemed to welcome patches.
However, he made it clear that this project was considered done and
that he had moved on.

You might want to give it a shoot anyway.

Bug#627687: [SoX-devel] Bug#627687: sox: Unable to load LAME encoder library (libmp3lame)

2011-05-25 Thread Pascal Giard
Hello Chris,

On Wed, May 25, 2011 at 1:49 PM, Chris Bagwell ch...@cnpbagwell.com wrote:

I guess we only stressed this on windows were we've hit the problem
but solved it differently.  It looks for both libmp3lame.dll/.so and
libmp3lame-0.dll/.so; -0 be windows version of .so version #'s.

I couldn't really find any common solutions to this so I guess the
main solution would be to add libmp3lame.so.0 to the list of filenames
to search for.  I think lt_dlopenext() can handle this full name.

at least here, lt_dlopenext() goes straight to attempting
libmp3lame.so.0.{la,so} when libmp3lame.so.0 is specified.

I can't seem to find a way to modify the extensions it will attempt,
it does not seem to be accessible from the outside of ltdl.
lt_dlforeachfile seems to be total overkill for this and only returns
the filename without the extension anyway... (in my case it calls my
function with /usr/lib/libmp3lame while only
/usr/lib/libmp3lame{.so.0,.so.0.0.0} exist).
But ltdl does not seem to be designed for our purpose as there is no
other mechanism...

I could only fix this by using lt_dlopen() with a full filename
(appended extension myself with sprintf).
I'm to shy to share my ugly patch tho as it involves a fixed size char
array that can only be abused.
(The magic should happen in the lsx_open_dllibrary function of src/util.c).

 /usr/lib/libmp3lame.so.0.0.0

 write(2, \n, 1

 access(/usr/lib/libmp3lame.so, R_OK)  = -1 ENOENT (No such file or

Oh! This looks like it may be an upstream issue.
SoX looks for libmp3lame.so but not libmp3lame.so.0.

While it's only a symlink to so.0, the .so is installed by
libmp3lame-dev this if you install the latter, it should work.
That being said, having the dev package should not be required.

SoX dev guys: Under Debian and Fedora at least, the .so symlink is
created by the -dev or Devel packages respectively. So I wonder how
other applications using libltdl handle a situation like this. Do they
depend on the -dev/Devel package (which I'd like to avoid at all cost)
or do they workaround the issue by e.g. calling lt_dladvise_ext to get
the OS-specific extension and then look for libname.advised_ext*
before issuing an lt_dlopen on the found files...?

Chris, Doug, Robs, do you have thoughts on this?

 the sox manpage says

The sampling rate associated with a null file is by
default 48 kHz, but, as with a normal file, this can be
overridden if desired using command-line format options

This does not work on sox 14.3.1-1:

 timo@spida ~ % rec -r 44100 -b 16 -c 2 -n empty.wav  trim 0:00 1:00
rec WARN formats: can't set sample rate 44100; using 48000
rec FAIL sox: Input files must have the same sample-rate

it DOES work on sox 14.3.1-1+b1 (on amd64):

 timo@timo1 ~ % rec -r 48000 -b 16 -c 2 -n empty.wav  trim 0:00 1:00

Hmmm.. You specified the default rate of 48 kHz on the later one.

Timo, if you are trying to set the sample rate of the target, you
misplaced the sampling rate parameter.

To make the target 44.1 kHz, in your case empty.wav, you should do the
following:
rec -b 16 -c 2 -n -r 44100 empty.wav trim 0:00 1:00

Can you give it a try?

Thanks,

No. Except maybe a somewhat broken extension registry..

Hmmm... If you are talking about the registry in ~/.libreoffice, I've
deleted it completely before reinstalling libreoffice.
I've also tried with a different user, w/o success.

And after removal, /usr/lib/libreoffice no longer exist.
 There isn't any /usr/lib/openoffice.org either.

Not everything is in /usr. What I had in mind was:

 (sid)root@frodo:/usr/lib/libreoffice/share# ls -l
 insgesamt 24
 drwxr-xr-x  2 root root 4096  3. Mär 00:31 config

 (sid)root@frodo:/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/prereg# cd bundled
 (sid)root@frodo:/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/prereg/bundled# ls
 extensions.db  lastsynchronized  registry

 this. /var/lib/libreoffice/share/prereg/bundled contains the pre-registerd
 extensions (what unopkg sync does)

Are there other files hidden somewhere?

All over the fs, actually. Not everything is in /usr/lib/libreoffice :-)

I expressed myself wrong.
I should have said: are there files somewhere still hidden after a purge?

In any case, is the registery human readable?

Depends. If you mean the actual db? No. If you mean the registered files and
their structure? Yes. (Run a tree in /var/lib/libreoffice/share/prereg/bundled
 and you'll see)

After a purge, /var/lib/libreoffice is not there.
Therefore, I would assume that it's not corrupted.

Reinstall it shows that this file contains the expected MediaWiki filter:
/var/lib/libreoffice/share/prereg/bundled/registry/com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/ng1sQ6_/Filter.xcu

And that file is listed in
/var/lib/libreoffice/share/prereg/bundled/registry/com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/backenddb.xml
However, it's still not shown in Tools/XML Filter Settings

What can go wrong here?

Is there a sort of verbose or debug mode?
soffice.bin -help does not show any... :-(

 I don't know. Worth a try, though.

Ok, I've tried different things w/o success, most notably:

1) Deleted ~/.libreoffice, ~/.openoffice.org2 ~/.oppenoffice.org

2) Removing everything related to libreoffice (I don't have any
openoffice.org package) and reinstalling the wanted features:
apt-get remove libreoffice*
apt-get install libreoffice-wiki-publisher libreoffice-writer

Interestingly, libreoffice-common-java and
libreoffice-filter-binfilter are correctly installed so while
libreoffice-wiki-publisher does not depend on it, something else
required does.
However, doing things this way, libreoffice-wiki-publisher got
installed before python-uno and thus I don't see it getting registered
(missing predepend there?).

3) Reinstalling libreoffice-wiki-publisher alone; gets registered.

Unfortunately, while the extension can be found in the manager (unopkg
gui), the filter still is not found. I don't get it...

How do filters get in there? Is it through unopkg?
When I say that it gets registered, I mean that I see the following
(some blank lines removed):

Synchronizing repository for shared extensions
 Synchronizing repository for bundled extensions

  Enabling: Wiki Publisher
   Enabling: help
   Enabling: WikiExtension.xcs
   Enabling: WikiEditor

This fixes some important bugs, including the failure of ffmpeg to
work on common machines, and also bug #555940 (which I just closed by
mistake; sorry, I’ve now reopened it).

It could also be used to make the necessary build change to fix bugs
 #382275 and (duplicate) #480180.

I’m currently looking to see if any other Debian. bugs are closed by
 14.3.2.

The ffmpeg issue was actually closed in 14.3.1-2.
As for the others, yes, it's already in my local packaging files.

An upload is imminent.

That's new to me, then again I don't have a mediawiki I can publish to
 anyways.

OK, I can imagine two (or maybe both are the cause together) causes of this.
I guess that there's just a dependency missing.
 1. libreoffice-java-common (anyone needing Java stuff in OOo needs this
 anyway)
 2. libreoffce-filter-mobiledev (Mobile Devices Filters, shouldn't influence
Wiki PUblisher, more or it's optional anyway)

I bet you don't have libreoffice-java-common installed. (Which would make
this bug not grave but serious anymore for the missing dependency)

Hello Rene,
 thanks for the quick reply!

Unfortunately, both are installed...

FWIW, libreoffice-filter-binfilter is also installed.

Also note that for raising that error, you don't need to connect to
any mediawiki server.
Simply selecting Send/To MediaWiki... will raise the error.

And while the filter is indeed not shown in Tools/XML Filter
Settings, the extension is correctly shown in the Extension Manager.
So it seems it's partially integrated...

On a final note, this does sound as grave to me as I have the
dependencies you mentioned and I'm unable to use this package...
In any case, my objective is to get this to work, not to get into an
argument ;-)

Any other idea is welcome...

 Mmh, OK.

Then it's unreproducible here. When I create a new doc and do
 Send/To MediaWiki... I get a dialog box.

It's also unreproducible on my laptop. Hmmm...

 Uptodaate sid? Version mismatch?

Up to date: yes, as of today.
Version mismatch... I highly doubt it, I no longer have any
experimental package installed on that box.

 Hotspo
 ii  sun-java6-jre [java5-runtim 6.24-1       Sun Java(TM) Runtime

Just out of curiosity: what of those is set in the options? There already have
been reports of brokeness with 23 (in an other area) and 24..

I of course tried with OpenJDK

I've tried both. I use update-alternatives to switch between the two.

Now I wonder where something fails on my desktop at work.
It must be something minor.

Although my issue is not fixed on my desktop at work, I'd be very
grateful if you could help tracking down the issue.

As the filter is not in the list, the first thing that comes to my
mind is: how does the XML filter get updated?
As soon as I get back to work (on Thursday), I'll try the obvious i.e.
reinstall the package and make sure libreoffice is restarted.
(I doubt the latter is the issue as the command appeared in the menu

Thanks.  I'm working a toolchain problem in the regression suite with

Great! Thanks alot for your work!

 Am I missing something?

This is what g-p-m displays when upower doesn’t give a time estimation.
There could be several reasons for that - for example a battery that
doesn’t show the discharging current and/or capacity.

Well I may be slightly digressing... although it's related with the
question is g-p-m feature par with battstat?.
I'd say no. At least when battery power rate is not valid.

Which seems to be my case as a power rate of 7.2mW seems impossible
for a Tablet PC. That may explain why g-p-m does not provide an
estimation.
Other than the power rate, my battery seems to provide the other
required info such as the charge.
Interestingly, g-p-m does not seem to record any charge/discharge history.

Cheers,

Is upower still not supporting some features that HAL has?
That would not surprise me as my LCD backlight is currently fully

 Hi,

As you know kfreebsd-i386 is an arch for the squeeze release. This
package doesn't install on kfreebsd so severity changed to serious.

I shall take care of this very soon.
A new stable release just came out to.

Bug#571272: Solving segfault with 10-3~prerelease

2010-04-05 Thread Pascal Giard
Hey there Hámorszky,
few minutes ago I was also getting a segfault with 10-3~prerelease
and Xorg 7.5 .
Following advices from a Ubuntu bug entry, I went ahead and backed up
my xorg.conf before doing an aticonfig --initial.
I then edited my xorg.conf to clean it (removed double entries and
made sure some of my customization stayed in (e.g. touchscreen/pen
stuff)).

And voilà, fglrx 10-3~prerelease + Xorg 7.5 now work as a charm!

You may want to try the same.

FWIW Patrick, I don't know if aticonfig only touches xorg.conf or if
it also touches some ati-specific files...
If it's a matter of xorg.conf, it seems to be either DPMS or a
required display subsection.

In any case, here are the old one and the new one.

If it's a matter of xorg.conf, it seems to be either DPMS or a

In any case, here are the old one and the new one.

I think it is this change:

        DefaultDepth     24
 +       SubSection Display
 +               Viewport   0 0
 +               Depth     24
 +       EndSubSection

DefaultDepth already has to be defined in every fglrx release, without it, X
 wont start.
Could someone verify it with his old configuration and just adding the
subsection, that it is working then?

 Another possible change would be:
 +       Screen      0  aticonfig-Screen[0]-0 0 0

Or yes the dpms thing, if AMD changed the DPMS handling:
 +       Option      DPMS true

Simply adding the DPMS option to the monitor section fixes my old config file.
That sounds odd, shouldn't power management options default to working values?!

In any case, I'll keep the other changes as they seem to be good practices.

 Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for sox (versioned as 14.3.0-1.1) and uploaded it
to DELAYED/2, according to devref §5.11.1. The patch simply adds a
missing Replaces from libsox-fmt-base to libsox-fmt-sndfile.

 A few more comments:

 - the fact that a user declared that the bug was not reproducible in his
specific upgrade is not very meaningful. I've tried an upgrade from
Lenny to Sid and while with the current apt-get sorting algorithm it
can work properly (libsox-fmt-sndfile got removed before than
libsox-fmt-base got unpacked), I was able to trigger the overwrite
  errors with dpkg alone

 - the NMUed version of the package works properly even in that corner
  case

 Cheers.

2009-09-27 Thread Pascal Giard
Here's another test i've written (for FoFiX) that allows you to go
thru three modes: array-based drawing, VBO drawing and direct-mode
drawing.
The latter is awfully slow with pyopengl = 3 while is was rocking
fast in version 2.

See: http://tr.im/drawingtest

Perhaps both versions of pyopengl could coexist in Debian?
I still keep a pyopengl 2 package around to play FoFiX.

Bug#537511: sox: play segfaults on iTunes .m4a files

Hello Gene,

On Sat, Jul 18, 2009 at 10:46 PM, Gene Cashgene.c...@gmail.com wrote:
 Package: sox

When I try to play an .m4a file from iTunes, I get an immediate segfault, and

I don't get any error messages, just the Segmentation fault from bash.

xine v0.99.6cvs plays the file just fine. This may be an issue with
 libavcodec52?

 My version of libavcodec52 is:
ii  libavcodec52   5:0.5+svn20090612-0.1  library to encode decode multimedia
 streams - runtime files

I can supply a .m4a file for testing if that helps.

Yes, please provide a sample file (could be via private email if you
prefer) as i'm unable to reproduce this using SoX 14.3.0-1 and the
sample provided in http://bugs.debian.org/521639 .
Could you also try SoX 14.3.0-1 please?

The latest versions of libneon27 and libneon27-gnutls (0.28.4-1) broke svn.

Bug#525986: [Bug 315950] Re: [needs-packaging] FoFiX (Frets on Fire X)

2009-05-12 Thread Pascal Giard
Unfortunately, there are still a couple of show-stoppers for this to
happen, at least in Debian unstable.
The most notable problem right now is the bad python-pyvorbis 1.4
package that throws a double-free error.

Please see: http://bugs.debian.org/521559

Another issue is that python-pygame is still at version 1.7.1 (or
1.8.x in Ubuntu) while = 1.9.x is required, at least for 64bit CPUs.

Until those two issues are tackled, i don't see a FoFiX package for
Debian/Ubuntu coming.
However, if they're resolved, i'll gladly package it myself or make
sure it gets packaged.

Finally, as a comment to the Debian RFP, please note that i'm not the
only upstream author, not at all!
Actually, there are quite a few active developpers these days.
I hope i won't hurt anyone's feelings but i think the most active
developers currently are (no particular order):
Chris Paiano
Pascal Giard (me)
Blazingamer
Qstick
akedrou
John Stumpo
volshebnyi

Cheers,

-Pascal
PS: As a side note, we'd like to modify FoFiX so it can use multiple
songs folders. That'd allow us to reuse the fretsonfire-mudjold
package.

Sorry for the late reply. Can you reproduce it with upstream TAO

I'll try to reproduce this and let you know. Bouncing this to Debian bug

I didn't have to go that far... i must be misunderstanding something
as TAO's performance test named Explicit_Binding works. (I've taken
it from your orig tarball).
Note that they're overriding the protocol policy... it isn't passing

Now i'm left wondering what i'm doing wrong or what i'm missing. I
wish there were examples using anything but iiop and/or that TAO's

Well, it segfaults if I do that, so I used ftruncate to truncate it to 1MB

Use play test.m4a trim 0s 20s to play it, otherwise it crashes in
an annoying fashion when it hits the end. Sample file is attached.

I can confirm the problem.
The origin of the problem is libmagic.

With the current version, you can workaround this by using -t m4a as
in play -t m4a test.m4a.

Note that this is fixed in upstream's CVS, libmagic will only be used
when the user asks for it [using a parameter].

Bug#520263: RFA: mail-notification -- mail notification in system tray

2009-03-18 Thread Pascal Giard
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: Normal

Hi,
it's been way too long since i've last worked on mail-notification. I
no longer have the energy nor motivation to properly maintain it.

Those who have followed mail-notification thru the years might be
already aware that the upstream author can be uncooperative to various
degrees.
e.g. SSL support is not included as the upstream disagrees with the
FSF interpretation of the OpenSSL (OpenSSL+GPL issue)(see [1]).
Upstream also refuses to use the GNUTLS patches proposed to workaround
this issue and seems to be willing to resort to trademark to prevent
it from being merged w/o a name change(see [2]).

All in all, this is a great application that would benefit from a new
motivated maintainer.
I sincerely hope someone will step up and will do whatever necessary
to bring SSL support back in (even if it implies renaming the package
and merging the GNUTLS patch in).

Of course, i'm willing to answer whatever question you might have and
even assist/comaintain if you will.

Cheers,
