I was able to reproduce the issue and I submitted a merge request here: https://salsa.debian.org/tts-team/festival-it/-/merge_requests/1 I am facing a technical issue with line endings in the source code and the patch, so quilt refuses to apply it. Does anyone know how to fix those?
Bug#911240: festvox-ca-ona-hts: Weird 'copyright' sound at the beginning of synthesised speech
Dear Francis, Festival does not support UTF-8. You should send the text to festival with ISO-8859-15 encoding. The accented character ò is represented by two bytes in UTF-8. Festival interprets those two bytes as two ISO-8859-15 characters, one of them being the copyright symbol. That's why you are hearing "copyright". You can probably use iconv to do the character encoding conversion. A typical case were this happens is if I were an employee (the copyright of my work on my worktime usually would belong to my employer). I do have moral authorship rights and that is acknowledged in the documentation. So I don't need and I should not add myself to the copyright, as I do not own it. With respect to the copyright dates I am not sure they need to be modified for minor changes. After the Bern convention it seems that the most important date is the first one (in case there is a copyright dispute). The last date will affect when the work will be available as public domain (around 70 years after the death of the copyright holder) and that is not a concern for the copyright owners of the package as long as it seems to be far beyond their lifetime. > > > * I have no clue how these voices work internally so you'll have > > >to give me a hand here. And the DFSG does requite that anyway. The LGPL is a very poor choice of a license for data, as it was designed for code libraries. The intention was that if someone improves the model they need to release it with the same terms. Probably a CC-BY-SA would be more appropriate. In the future I will discuss with the copyright owners a possible license change. > 2) The source is very huge, and might not be suitable for the > archive anyway. Hi, I have just committed changes to address your comments and I have uploaded the package again to mentors: Again, you can fetch the package using: dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/festvox-ca-ona-hts/festvox-ca-ona-hts_1.3-1.dsc Further info is available here: https://mentors.debian.net/package/festvox-ca-ona-hts Comments to your review follow here: 2016-09-05 23:32 GMT+02:00 Guillem Jover : Sure! Here's the review, please: > > * Document changes for Vcs-* fields. * Document dependency version bumps and additions. > * Minor stylistic nit, add a space between the >= and the version. :) > All these three have been fixed. > * The copyright years and holders might need an update? > I have updated the copyright years and holders for the files that have changed among versions. > * I have no clue how these voices work internally so you'll have >to give me a hand here. What's the source for upc_ca_ona.htsvoice? >How do you generate that? Do we have the tools to do so in Debian? >Otherwise we might need to put this in contrib. :/ > I would understand moving the package to contrib if that is where it belongs. There is a summarised description of the process of generating the htsvoice file in the README.source file. Basically, the htsvoice file contains the voice model (so no "code", just "data"). To generate this model, we used around 3 weeks of computer processing power and up to 5GB of RAM in some parts of the process. I don't think it makes much sense to regenerate it in Debian. Apart from the computer power, you will need the recordings with their phonetic segmentation. For this model, they can be downloaded from http://festcat.talp.cat/download/data, distributed with a CC-BY-SA license (the recordings are almost 1GB large). You will also need some tools, all but one of them are free. The one that is non-free is called HTK. It can be downloaded gratis and is open-source but is non-free because it is not redistributable. You can see the license terms here: http://htk.eng.cam.ac.uk/docs/license.shtml. Other packages (such as festlex-poslex) do provide trained models without the training the data from scratch and are in main. I found a thread https://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2009/05/msg00028.html where a similar case is discussed, but I did not see a final consensus on the issue. Also, the ftp masters authorised the previous upload of this package. I (as part of upstream) cannot improve the situation for the htsvoice models as we don't have the resources to develop a fully free alternative to HTK. Providing the raw data should allow anyone to train better models and it is already more than what other packages have done. > * The package is pretty much lintian clean, except for a pedantic >tag about missing an upstream changelog, which we can ignore. > > I've built and tested these and they work fine, thanks! > Cool! > > > In the past it was a bit hard to find a sponsor and knowing that I had to > > go through the process of finding one was demotivating me a bit. > > Please feel free to contact me anytime you need a sponsor, at least for > any Catalan related package. Bug#785799: [festvox-ca-ona-hts] Since las festival upgrade, catalan voice is not correctly recognized and does not work
Hi Guillem, I have been working this summer to get the new upstream version of this package and after some testing it seems it works fine, so I just uploaded its package to mentors. Could you please sponsor it? In the past it was a bit hard to find a sponsor and knowing that I had to go through the process of finding one was demotivating me a bit. You can fetch the package using: dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/festvox-ca-ona-hts/festvox-ca-ona-hts_1.3-1.dsc Further info is available here: https://mentors.debian.net/package/festvox-ca-ona-hts If there is anything on my side I can do to help please contact me. Bug#747618: festvox-us-slt-hts: changing from ITP to RFP
Just to report progress and status, I created the package here: https://alioth.debian.org/plugins/scmgit/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=tts/festvox-us-slt-hts.git;a=summary I am no longer interested in looking for a sponsor for the package, and the packaging itself is probably outdated (last commit August 2014). Bug#732083: voice names hard coded for languages
Dear Peter and fellow festival maintainers, I think commit 9857746e5c9ca106b8f051a0198af05152fad0b1 fixes this. See commitdiff at [1]. Basically I added a flag to know whether or not proclaim_voice was found. If proclaim_voice is not found, voice is registered as it was done before the patch. I think this solves the issue once and for all. Bug#699950: Festival-doc was orphaned by Kartik - should this be removed from the archive at this point?
Here is an updated status of the bug: There is a git repository in [1] with festival-doc. I have added myself as a maintainer, and I will maintain both festival-doc and speech-tools-doc until they are merged into festival and speech-tools (which I help maintaining as part of the Text To Speech group). Regarding festival-doc, a patch is ready to generate HTML and PS documentation from festival sources, so I have removed festival-doc from the src:festival-doc debian/control and debian/rules files. Regarding speech-tools-doc, due to the doc++ to doxygen change, my current and almost final patch states: 226 changed files with 16087 additions and 11335 deletions. I have submitted this patch upstream, and they gave me a big thank you (they could not build speech-tools documentation either). Upstream said they are going to merge it and include it in their next release, hopefully soon. All this said, this is my first adoption of an orphaned package, so if I have forgotten any step, or done any wrong thing please feel free to correct me. Bug#732083: festival: voice names are hard-coded for each language
tags + pending -- Thank you for thinking and suggesting of such a nice feature. On behalf of the TextToSpeech Debian team, I have commited a patch [1] which should fix this issue. On the next upload this bug will be closed. [1] http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=tts/festival.git;a=commit;h=a811a841d8afb9e517c458771a2b251446536b19
Bug#699950: Festival-doc was orphaned by Kartik - should this be removed from the archive at this point?
I will try to push this bug forward: festival-doc source package builds two packages: festival-doc and speech-tools-doc. Once we have a build system working for both packages, I suggest Jean-Philippe intends to adopt festival-doc source package (or the TTS team adopts it, I don't know :-) ). Here is the status of building both packages from festival and speech-tools sources: Regarding festival-doc: === I have managed to successfully build festival-doc from the festival source package using texi2html. As Ryan Kavanagh pointed to Peter, there is a transition from texi2html to texinfo [1]. Until I have properly replaced texi2html with texinfo I will not commit any patch unless you prefer to have a texi2html temporal solution. I have to read how to replace texi2html with texinfo, I hope it is not going to be hard, given that many people may have done this transition before :-) Regarding speech-tools-doc: = Building speech-tools-doc from src:speech-tools is not trivial. Current issues: -- - It depends on Doc++ (an automatic documentation program not updated since 2003 [2] and removed from debian repository [3]). - It depends on jade which seems to be being replaced by openjade because (according to jade's changelog [4] and jade's website [5]) it has not received any upstream update since 1999. - The manual is in DocBook V3.0 and quite integrated with Doc++ specific XML output format. Proposed solution: (I am working on it now) -- - Replace Doc++ with Doxygen. Doxygen is quite standard for source documentation nowadays. It can provide output in HTML and PDF formats and initially it was partially based on Doc++ [6], so its syntax is quite similar. - Replace the sgml manual with markdown pages. Doxygen is markdown friendly and this change would allow us to integrate the manual with the source code documentation and build everything together (with links from the manual to the source documentation, etc...). * Pros: - The proposed solution would drop all documentation dependencies (doc++, jade, perl...) and only leave doxygen, which seems to have good support and is a very active project with many users. - The Makefile will be much simpler. - Markdown format is extensively used in many projects and very easy to read in raw format. * Cons: - Converting sgml pages to markdown may lead to a patch of considerable size. I will try to estimate its size ASAP. As always, alternative solutions, comments, likes/dislikes are very welcome :-) References: === [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2013/05/msg01580.html [2] http://sourceforge.net/projects/docpp/files/doc%2B%2B/ [3] http://packages.qa.debian.org/d/doc++.html [4] http://ftp-master.metadata.debian.org/changelogs//main/j/jade/jade_1.2.1-47.3_changelog [5] http://www.jclark.com/jade/ [6] http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/#acknowledgements
Bug#704064: spyder could suggest gitk and git-gui
Package: spyder Version: 2.1.10-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, As you may already know, Spyder is able to somehow integrate with version control systems like git. git integration is performed via "right click" on the "File explorer" and choosing the "Commit" or "Browse repository" options. These two menu options call "git-gui" and "gitk" commands respectively. Therefore, I believe that both git-gui and gitk enhance spyder and it would be nice for both packages to be added to spyder's debian/control as suggested packages. Bug#601596: Joining the TTS team
I am interested in joining the Debian TTS team that seems Jean-Philippe Mengual is going to create soon. I am just starting into Debian (I come from Ubuntu) and I have had some experience with festival and speech-tools so I believe I might be of some help, however I am not a Debian Developer or Debian Maintainer so don't expect me to know a lot about the debian workflow (although I am willing to learn) :-) Also, I would like to package (and maintain) Festival's Catalan support (festival-ca and one or two Catalan HTS voices). It seems that it is needed to contact other maintainers of other TTS packages to ask them to join the future TTS team. I will try to find email addresses and contact them ten days from now (I expect to have some free time then) if it is still needed and everyone thinks this is fine. I am looking forward to all this. The libestools patch [2] and a simple rebuild in Festival would provide native ALSA support and fix possible audio latencies deriving from the use of aplay. Moreover, the aplay commands in /etc/festival.scm would not be needed anymore, and we could let festival to autodetect the audio module for linux and non-linux users. Bug#638394: Cleaner patch to provide native ALSA support
The attached debdiff is arch-aware and only adds ALSA support on a linux environment. The ALSA interface (audio/linux_sound.cc) has been patched to use snd_pcm_set_params() instead of hwparams. This has been tested on my launchpad ppa ( https://launchpad.net/~zeehio/+archive/ppa/+packages) and it works. If there is anything I can do to push this patch, I am willing to help. Bug#606173: festival: Add new language support (general solution)
Package: festival Version: 1.97~svn20100328~ppa0~lucid Severity: normal Tags: patch It would be nice to add the attached patch to festival's git repository. Until now, in Festival, when a voice developer works in a new language, a bug has to be filled against festival to add support for that language, because lib/languages.scm has to be edited (see bugs #516262 and #335845). This patch provides a language independent lib/languages.scm that reads from the directory lib/languages/ and loads all the available languages automatically.
