Bug#612607: Connecting to older ssh version has cipher negotiation problem

2011-02-09 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:5.8p1-2

The problem is the dreaded "Read from socket failed".
The solution is to manually add the cipher to the command line.

Broken:

Bug#536772: ssh sessions timing out

2011-02-09 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
Put these lines in your client-side file ~/.ssh/config
ServerAliveInterval 300
ServerAliveCountMax 60

I think there is a server-side version as well, but if you connect to as
many servers as I do, it can be easier to just do it client-side.

Bug#602323: iceweasel 100% CPU in sid

2010-11-03 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
What I ended up doing was uninstalling the EFF's HTTPS-Everywhere Add-on
and now it doesn't freeze. N.b., I had had this Add-on disabled, but
only uninstalling it worked to solve the freezing.

Here's an interesting one. It seems to be complaining about a missing
file pki3hack.c. Does this mean the error occurred there and I simply
don't have the source installed?

Bug#522408: devpts: called with bogus options

2009-04-03 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
Package: mount
Version: 2.13.1.1-1

These messages in dmesg used to be harmless because it would be mounted
anyway, ignoring "bogus options":
-
[8.535397] devpts: called with bogus options
-

But since I upgraded to linux-image-2.6.29-1-amd64 in the latest 'sid',
my devpts will not mount unless I manually mount it.

This works:
$ mount -t devpts devpts /dev/pts/

This does not:
$ mount /dev/pts

Thanks for you work on this package!

The CUPS init script is now called /etc/init.d/cups (it used to be

Bug#491317: closed by "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED]) (Re: Bug#491317: xulrunner-1.9 does not allow any version of j2re1.4)

2008-07-21 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
Unfortunately, my upstream vendor requires 1.4.2 because they are
developing against an old version of JBoss. I hope that in a year or two
they will support a newer version of Java.

Having said that, I think if you make xulrunner conflict only with *old*
versions of 1.4.2 then I could put in my own epoch and work around the
problem.

Thank you!

XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps worked. For the record, it looks OK in EXA, too,
but the slow scrolling is horrible so I had to switch back to XAA. I'm
glad there is a solution to the background pix thing for XAA.

Bug#485623: iceweasel will not start: exec: 296: LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libc.so.6: not found

2008-06-10 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0~rc2-1

iceweasel will not start. I get this error:

$ iceweasel
exec: 296: LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libc.so.6: not found

Executing /usr/lib/iceweasel/firefox-bin works fine, so it must be a bug
in the script.

Normally, /bin/sh redirects to dash. If I change my /bin/sh link to
bash, here is the error I get:

$ iceweasel
/usr/bin/iceweasel: line 147: /lib/LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libc.so.6: No such file or
directory
/usr/bin/iceweasel: line 147: exec: /lib/LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libc.so.6: cannot

Thanks for the package. I hope this report is useful.

This is the Informix client I have installed:

$ ./esql -V
IBM Informix CSDK Version 2.81, IBM Informix-ESQL Version 9.53.UC2
Software Serial Number RDS#N00

I think I did the tarball install. clientsdk.2.81.UC2.LINUX.tar

I haven't tried to build a package. I'm not even sure how to do it...

If you're getting compiler errors, perhaps Jonathan Leffler could help.

I'm not a debian developer...

Bug#445044: evolution: Ctrl+Alt+S overloads Window Manager mapping. Ctrl+S works just fine.

2007-10-02 Thread Stephen Olander-Waters
Package: evolution
Version: 2.12.0-1

Please describe the problem:
Traditionally, Ctrl+Alt keyboard combinations were reserved for window
managers. E.g., Enlightenment uses Ctrl+Alt+S to set a window "sticky"
so it stays on all desktops. I use that feature all the time to move
windows to different desktops.

Given that Ctrl+S is the documented "save this message" shortcut, please
eliminate the Ctrl+Alt+S mapping.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Doubleclick on an email in your Inbox to open it in its own window.
2. In that window, type Ctrl+Alt+S. Notice it does the same thing as
Ctrl+S. Notice that Ctrl+S is what is documented in the 'File' section
of the toolbar.

Expected results:
I would expect all Ctrl+Alt keyboard combinations to be Window Manager
and/or X keyboard mappings.

Cross-reference:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482637

I think this may be a Debian-specific bug.

It compiles easily and works great on amd64. Fixes the problem I was

0.70 compiles cleanly on sid (at least, on x86). I downloaded the
source, copied in the debian directory from the 0.65 debian sources, ran
"debian/rules binary" and it works fine. It has the same dependencies as
0.65.

When I get home, I'll try it on amd64.

Bug#417594: kernel module file corruption on reboot

2007-04-03 Thread Stephen Olander Waters
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-amd64
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12

Please note that this bug also affects the latest Debian amd64
experimental kernel linux-image-2.6.20-1-amd64, version:
2.6.20-1~experimental.1~snapshot.8402

About every 5 reboots, my kernel module directories will get corrupted
-- if I'm very careful and shut down first, boinc running in a 32-bit
chroot and second, GDM. If I just type in "shutdown -h now" in an xterm,
it almost guarantees corruption.

The most common corrupted file is tg3.ko and its parent directories.

No other filesystems experience corruption. No other directories
experience corruption. Only the kernel module files/directories of the
running kernel are corrupted.

Annoying workaround:
1) reboot into rescue kernel
2) turn off networking / portmap
3) remount readonly
4) run fsck on root partition where the module files are stored
5) remount read/write
6) dpkg -i /home/user/saved_kernel.deb

Hardware:
Dual opteron 244s
MSI K8T Master2-FAR motherboard
via K8t8000 chipset
RAM with ECC turned off because the motherboard doesn't like x8bit ECC
and I can't afford to burn more $ on 2GB of new x4bit ECC RAM.

Here is some weirdness in dmesg with the hard drive. It has always had
this message, even when it was running on 32-bit kernels, but even then
I never experienced filesystem corruption with it.

Bug#400615: confirmed [mozilla-tabextensions: no close button for tabs with iceweasel 2.0+dfsg-1]

2006-11-29 Thread Stephen Olander Waters
I have the same issue. More info:

I have tried manually setting the options in prefs.js, tabextensions.js
but the prefs are never loaded when the browser starts.

I have also tried the GUI for setting these options. If I disable the
closebox, click "Apply", then select "Show in Any tab Always", click
"Apply" -- a distorted closebox icon displays.

If I click "Advanced", select "Built-in", "OK", "Apply", "Advanced",
"Special Appearance (Winstrip)", "OK","Apply" --> then I can get the
closebox to work for that session. But the preferences won't be saved
and even when manually added, are not loaded on startup.

I wonder if this is simply a problem with Firefox 2.0 compatibility with
the tab browser extensions extension.

Since NVU itself is no longer maintained, would it be possible to
include the bugfix fork of it called Kompozer in Debian?

Of course, that should be:
/sys /x86/sys none bind0 0

I found a workaround. I don't know if it counts as a fix but it does
work. Change /x86/sys to a bind mount and shutting down works.

/sys /x86/sys bind none0 0

Bug#325186: laptop-mode-tools crasher: "hda: DMA timeout error"

2005-08-26 Thread Stephen Olander Waters
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.10-1

Problem: The system freezes with laptop-mode-tools hard disk defaults
set by "/etc/init.d/laptop-mode-tools start". It typically crashes when

gotten it to generate an error once on the console: "hda: DMA timeout

I'm sorry I can't provide much more information. I suggest disabling
hard-disk optimization in the default config with a note in the config
file to try it and if it crashes to comment it back out.

Bug#321256: mplayerplug-in doesn't respect config file

I have Real player 10 installed with the nphelix plugin and I don't want

respect its own config file!

/etc/mplayerplug-in.conf

I followed the instructions on the sourceforge website, but neither
removing pluginreg.dat nor touching the .so plugin files seems to get it

Any ideas?
