Bug#1060387: libc6:amd64 (2.37-13) upgrade stuck at Setting up on WSL 2

2024-01-29 Thread Thom Castermans
Just want to confirm that Raffaele Bratta's solution of switching to
systemd also resolved the issue for me. Basically, adding to
`/etc/wsl.conf` the following configuration:

```
[boot]
systemd = true
```

and then rebooting by executing `wsl --shutdown`. After that, I could
finally run `dpkg --configure -a` successfully.

Cheers, Thom

Bug#1033489: sudo lecture is missing

2023-03-26 Thread Thom
Package: sudo
Version: 1.9.13p3-1
Followup-For: Bug #1033489
X-Debbugs-Cc: thom1...@gmail.com

Hi Marc!

Thank you for the clarification.

But I can't find a reason to drop lecture after so many years.

By the way upstream made some changes in lecture text resently. [1]
For what reason? To hide this information from users?
I don't think so.

So I'm voting to show the sudo lecture "once" again.

I can't imagine the negative consequences in this case.

I try to use sudo comand at the first time

Probably add an option

Bug#1023504: pipewire: moc play no sound if pulseaudio purged from system

2022-11-05 Thread Thom
Package: pipewire
Version: 0.3.59-1+b1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: thom1...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I try to switch from pulseaudio to pipewire step by step through debian wiki
guide. [1]
My previous setup pulseaudio + moc work pretty well.
This is the reason why i think this bug should be assight to pipewire.
So after installing pipewire pipewire-alsa wireplumber moc still have the
posibillity to play sound.
But aftert I purge pulseaudio from system the sound is gone.

mpv and cmus works fine by the way.

Some reserch show that presence of
/etc/alsa/conf.d/99-pulse.conf
make sence in my case.

Can you please provide some hook for applications using alsa in case pulseaudio
not present in system?

Thanks.

Bug#1021808: zram-tools: Typo in package description

2022-10-14 Thread Thom
Package: zram-tools
Version: 0.3.3.1-1
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: thom1...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

in the package description the last string says:
"By default it allocates 100MB of RAM"

But in the configuration file /etc/default/zramswap we can see 256MB as default
value (#SIZE=256 commented out).

After package installation the swap device is 256MB in size
$ sudo swapon
NAME TYPE SIZE USED PRIO
/dev/zram0 partition 256M 0B 100

I suggest to correct package description like:
"By default it allocates 256MB of RAM"

Thanks in advance.

Bug#1001272: Finding a solution

2021-12-10 Thread Thom RJ
I have rebuilt the package with the --enable-pango option.

Now jwm -v compiled options look like:
confirm icons jpeg nls pango png shape svg xbm xft xinerama xpm xrender

instead of:
confirm icons jpeg nls png shape svg xbm xft xinerama xpm xrender

After rebuilding the package with pango enabled, my broken fonts issue was
gone.

I can come out of retirement enough to fix the issues in upstream... It sure
would be great if we could get the final stable Shorewall packages into Debian.

I request assistance with maintaining the shorewall package.

The package description is:
Shorewall allows firewall/gateway requirements to be described using
entries in a set of configuration files. It reads those configuration
files and, with the help of the iptables utility, configures
 netfilter to match these requirements.
 .
Shorewall supports a wide range of router/firewall/gateway applications,
traffic shaping and almost every type of VPN.

I have maintained the Shorewall packages in Debian for quite a few years
now, but my time to work on them has diminished. The reality is that
there are several issues that require attention, which I cannot at the
moment attend to. Over time the severity of these issues will likely
increase and the eventual result is that the Shorewall packages could be
removed from Debian.

If someone were to be able to devote some effort toward helping, I could
help with reviewing patches, sponsoring uploads, etc. It is still my
hope that I will find additional time to work on the Shorewall Debian
packages, but I do not want to make my inability to find enough time now
cause users of Debian to lose out on access to good quality Shorewall
packages.

Note that this RFH really encompasses the shorewall, shorewall6,
shorewall-lite, shorewall6-lite, shorewall-doc, and shorewall-core
source packages.

Bug#955128: x2goclient: startkde script seems replaced by startplasma-x11 on testing/sid

2020-07-11 Thread Thom
Package: x2goclient
Version: 4.1.2.2-2
Followup-For: Bug #955128
X-Debbugs-Cc: thom1...@gmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

I can confirm that issue is still present in sid.

Since Plasma 5.17 startkde startup script was split to two different binaries
startplasma-x11 and startplasma-wayland (see plasma-workspace package).

So as temporary workaround I create symlink
ln -s /usr/bin/startplasma-x11 /usr/bin/startkde
which solve this problem for me.

Dear Maintainer,

1. launch kdenlive

dpkg: error: 2 expected programs not found in PATH or not executable
Note: root's PATH should usually contain /usr/local/sbin, /usr/sbin and /sbin

Exporting the PATH before running the same command fix the issue: export
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin

The same happens for full-upgrade, install, etc ...

Bug#791474: (no subject)

I see.

Should I create a new bug or is it possible to mark this one as a LXDE bug?

Thanks.

Bug#791474: Failed to execute child process "lxrandr" (No such file or directory)

2015-07-05 Thread Thom Thom
Package: openbox
Version: 3.6.0-2

When I plug/unplug the power cable in my laptop multiple windows appears with
the following message:

Failed to execute child process "lxrandr" (No such file or directory)If I
install lxrandr, of course, it will open it.Sometimes it appears randomly,
without plugging/unplugging the power cable.Sorry if it's not an openbox bug, I
don't know what package is causing it. The same bug happens in Debian Sid.Right
now I am using Debian GNU/Linux Testing, kernel 3.16.0-4-amd64, libc6 2.19-18
and LXDE.
Thanks.

I can confirm this. Removing systemd (and consequently, GDM/Gnome), does fix
the issue. Though, the bug is still present. I do need to have both installed!

Thanks Bryan Cebuliak.

Bug#661954: This is still an issue on ssmtp 2.64-7

2013-12-30 Thread Thom Wiggers
ssmtp.conf still/again is world-readable by default.

I was able to fix this by doing (as root):

chmod -R 2750 /etc/ssmtp/
chown root:mail /etc/ssmtp/
chmod g+s /usr/sbin/ssmtp
chmod g+s /usr/sbin/sendmail
chmod g+s /usr/sbin/mailq

Though I might have added a +s more than strictly necessary.

I also did

dpkg-statoverride --add root mail 2750 /etc/ssmtp
dpkg-statoverride --add root mail 2750 /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf
dpkg-statoverride --add root mail 2750 /etc/ssmtp/revaliases
dpkg-statoverride --add root mail 2755 /usr/sbin/ssmtp
dpkg-statoverride --add root mail 2755 /usr/sbin/sendmail
dpkg-statoverride --add root mail 2755 /usr/sbin/mailq

And now it all seems to be working fine.

Sincerely,

Thom Wiggers

Bug#700767: polipo: no limit in the amount of on-disk cache by default

2013-02-16 Thread Thom
Package: polipo
Version: 1.0.4.1-1.2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

In the default configuration (/etc/polipo/config), there is no limit in the
amount of on-disk cache (/var/cache/polipo).
This can cause problems.
When downloading large amounts of data (such as DVD ISO files) on-disk cache
can take up all available free space on the root partition.
Thus making it difficult to run other programs, system updates and so on.

I believe that the default configuration should not lead to such serious
consequences
especially for inexperienced users who will be hard to determine the source of
the problem.

Bug#698484: installation-reports: Please add files on netinst CD images to setting up a connection to the network via 3G USB modem

2013-01-19 Thread Thom
Package: installation-reports
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Please add some files on installation media (netinst CD images) to bring a
possibility to setting up a network connection via 3G USB modem.

In my case mobile broadband is the only way to connect to the Internet.

Unfortunately mobile operator has a bandwidth limit.

So use netinst.iso is the good choise for me.

But after successfuly installed debian base system I have no idea how to
setting up my network connection.

Usually I use wvdial for that. Also usb-modeswitch packages may be needed.

Installing these additional packages is the solution for me

libjim0debian2
libuniconf4.6
libwvstreams4.6-base
libwvstreams4.6-extras
wvdial
usb-modeswitch
usb-modeswitch-data

~1.2 Mb

Thanks

Bug#697457: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#697457: libvirt-bin crash at startup — some tests

2013-01-07 Thread Thom

Hi Guido!

Thanks alot for your assistance!

Upgrade libnetcf1 from 1:0.2.0-5 (unstable) to 1:0.2.2-3 (experimental) solve
the problem for me.

I suppose this should be reflected in the libvirt dependencies.

Hi Elimar!

Works fine in this case for me.

It seems that you are right about buggy libmpcdec6.

I tried to use libmpcdec6_0.1~r459-1_i386 from 'squeeze'
and all my .mpc files play without errors.

Thanks for your help!

Bug#645778: Dutch language package missing

2011-10-18 Thread Thom Castermans
Subject: amarok: Dutch language package missing
Package: amarok
Version: 2.3.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: l10n

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Hi,
Recently, I installed Amarok from the Debian repositories. When
starting the program, I noticed that the language was
set to English. I did find the menu for changing the language, which
contains a lot of languages but not Dutch.
Now, I joined the KDE translation team where people said Amarok is
translated and available in Dutch from the Kubuntu
repositories. They mentioned 'amarok-lang', which I did not find in
any Debian repository (not even in Sid).
Cheers,
Thom Castermans

The only package installed from testing is nginx, and later gdb (to

Thanks for the detailed bug report. I suspect this is may be a bug in
mod_rpaf. Can you retry without it?

The output of the following commands in gdb would also be interesting:

Appreciate the swift reply. Have disabled mod_rpaf and am monitoring.

I don't think that we should be assuming that case, or defaulting to it.
It's a reasonable assumption that most people installing something like puppet
are intending to use it, and that should be the case that works out of the box.
I don't think a debconf question is unreasonable, but I definitely
don't think that's
something we should be thinking about (or need) in the lenny timescale.

Bug#456737: fails to follow apache2 best practise

2007-12-17 Thread Thom May
Package: libapache2-mod-wsgi
Version: 1.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,
best practise for /etc/apache2/mods-available is to use *just* the module
name, and strip the prepended "mod-". wsgi doesn't follow this, which is
irritating to put it midly.

-Thom

Sounds emminently sane to me - I have no real interest in mod_perl, but will
be happy to contribute apache knowledge as required.

Bug#344072: apache2.2 uploaded to experimental

2006-08-15 Thread Thom May
Hi all,

As of today, Apache 2.2 is available from experimental (packagename:
apache2-mpm-{worker,prefork} etc). New features include LFS support, and
improved caching. For more info, see:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/new_features_2_2.html and
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/upgrading.html . Note especially the
changes in authentication.

This version is not yet ready for unstable, and hence also not for etch,
because it requires more testing. All maintainers of apache modules are
encouraged to test their modules against apache2.2 from experimental, and
upload tested modules to experimental. Please note that it is not possible
to build a module for both apache 2.0 and apache2.2 from the same source
package.
Authentication modules especially probably require changes. Success/failure
stories from Apache module maintainers are welcome on the debian-apache
mailinglist.

Thanks to Canonical for sponsoring the sprint that got us 99% of the way
done, and (almost) everyone else for being patient over the long wait.

Thanks,
The Debian Apache team (Adam, Fabio, Thom, Tollef)

No, apache2.0 uses the APR 0.9 branch for API/ABI compatability reasons.
Apache 2.2 when it hits experimental will use the APR/APU 1.2 packages.

Bug#357547: evolution: Problem Fixed

2006-03-27 Thread Chris Thom
Package: evolution
Version: 2.4.2.1-1.1
Followup-For: Bug #357547

Hi,

On seeing the bug report from ron, I did a bit of looking at the
different versions we have installed. I upgraded a thing or two, and the
bug is now no longer present with the calendar. I did the following:

* upgraded evolution to latest unstable (2.4.2.1-1.1
* installed the evolution-plugins package, which previously wasn't installed
* upgraded the libxml2 package (to 2.6.23.dfsg.2-3 from unstable), which
  also installed libxml2-dev

I don't know which of these things cleared the problem, but it's gone
now. Maybe there was a bug parsing the xml of the calendar appointments?
Not sure...

cheers
chris

since you misspelled severity i feel no guilt in changing it to important -
justification is that the sun jsdk is about the only viable option on ia64,
so rendering java-package entirely useless on the platform.

ia64-linux-gnu; ia64|ia64-linux-gnu is the correct match.

I don't think so; it's not a laptop specific package - the whole point is
that it's installed _everywhere_ so that things can do configuration based
on whether the system they're installing on is a laptop or not.
Ubuntu uses it, for example, for Xorg configuration, gnome panel config and
a variety of other things.

Presumably (I have no machines with APM, afaict) somewhere in /proc/apm
there is battery status. Can we do something similar to the pmu code for
working out whether we have batteries or not?

Bug#311776: apache-ssl: Basic Authentication does not work

2005-06-03 Thread Thom May
Severity 311776 normal

Hi,
it's likely that you have an erroneous config, rather than this being a bug
in apache. If basic auth was broken, I assure you that we'd have noticed by
now.
The problem you're reporting is often a symptom of having multiple auth
providers loaded; have a look at /etc/apache-ssl/modules.conf or attach it
here and check you don't have mod_auth_sys or mod_auth_system installed.
Cheers,

Of course updating the other modules is the right answer - the api has
changed upstream; MP2 has not formally been released, hence it's not
2.0. These things happen.

Apache has no knowledge of mod-perl2;
simply remove /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/perl.conf for a quick fix.

it's in pkg-utopia on alioth; there are a whole bunch of changes I need to

0.3.1 is ancient and *really* buggy; current HEAD is being rewritten to use

Bug#297820: evolution: Scrolling control not fine enough in calendar

2005-03-02 Thread Chris Thom
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.3-1.2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've just upgraded to evolution 2.0 from the old 1.4 and have noticed that
the scrolling control in the month view in the calendar is not sufficient
fine. By this I mean, multiple mouse-wheel or up-down scrollbar clicks do
not scroll the month-by-month screen. They seem to accumulate in week
increments, and when it reachs a month, then the display is changed.

In other words, the display is locked to displaying the full current month.
The old behaviour (v1.4) was to scroll a week at a time, splitting across
months (showing 2 weeks, say, about the currently selected date), which is
quite useful for seeing the context of an appointment. Can this behaviour
be restored/re-implemented?

cheers

They should send useful patches to the dev list (both apr and httpd), make
their build system and
everything that they do absolutely compatible with the upstream way of doing
it (last I looked, metux required automake to build, which is 100%
guaranteed not to be accepted upstream) etc

I'm strongly opposed to doing this. I see no sign that the metux authors
have any desire to integrate metux with upstream, and I absolutely think
that the apache2 package should not contain any major components that aren't
included in the upstream tarball. (That way we're not exposed to the

Ubuntu uses POST by default, yes (we don't setup an mta by default).
There's no config file; popcon-upload just takes data on stdin.
the relevant bit of the crontab is simply:

run_popcon \
| tee /var/log/popularity-contest \
| /usr/sbin/popcon-upload >/dev/null 2>&1
