Bug#1074129: lyx: Hard coded path to xslt proc prevent Lyx to find it

2024-06-23 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: lyx
Version: 2.4.0-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream patch

Dear Maintainer,

At first start (or reconfigure option) Lyx look for xslt proc path.
But path is hardcoded in file /usr/share/lyx/configure.py and look
only for package docbook-xsl-ns. If the docbook-xsl package is
installed, as recommended by Lyx package, the script can't find it.

Adding the right path in the script works for me :.
#
xpath, xslt_sheet = checkProg('XSLT stylesheets for ePub', ['chunk.xsl'], '',
['/usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/docbook-xsl-ns/epub3','/usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/docbook-xsl/epub3/'])
if xslt_sheet == 'chunk.xsl':
xpath = '/usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/docbook-xsl-ns'
else:
xpath = 'none'

Thanks for your work
Xavier

Dear Maintainer,

Someone forked Slim a few years ago to fix bugs in this unmaintained software.
Other projects already adopted the fork (Gentoo, Devuan, Venom...). I think
that Debian could benefit of such an update.

Thanks and have a good day

Bug#1051855: plasma-workspace-wallpapers: Other similar packages are named with "background"

Package: plasma-workspace-wallpapers

Dear Maintainer,

This package name is hard to guess because its name is different than other
similar packages (gnome-backgrounds, sway-backgrounds, mate-backgrounds and so
on).
The package is also hard to find, because the only package depending on it is
kde-full.

May be a fake or meta package named "kde-background" could help ?

Bug#996977: kbd-chooser: can't chose keyboard variant keymap

May be I don't remember, but I think it was possible to chose a variant

Why?

You can install in french with a different keyboard layout for whatever
reasons : being in another country or using a variant layout like Dvorak
or Bépo (my case). It is thus very hard to find characters different
from numbers or french alphabet. Actually, it was difficult for me to
type identical password 2 times, and then I was unable to type the same
password at the login prompt. It happened on 2 or 3 installations until
I decided to type only numbers in the password.

Dear Maintainer,

I allways use a keyboard variant. While installing Debian 11, the only keyboard
layout
offered was the most common in my language (French Azerty). This may sound
minor as one can install
another layout at the first boot, but it breaks security during install as user
is unable to type
a good password.
This was checked on AMD64 netinstall CD and AMD64 firmware DVD, under textual
and graphical UI,
distant installer with ssh, and with low priority option.

Best regards and thank you for the hard work

Dear Maintainer,
While I use Nginx for nearly 5 years now, I never noticed the suggested
packages in nginx-common.
I think those packages should be suggested by all of nginx core, extra and

This is strongly needed by fcgiwrap and ssl-cert which are a requirement when
using Nginx with some other Debian's packages that require an httpd server with

I would put this last sentence at first, it will ease to understand what the
primary purpose of xmount is. xmount is not the right tool if one need a
virtual FS for running a VM at work like a virtual server.

Dear Maintainer,

I suggest to change a bit the package description putting the last sentence at
first :
from
xmount allows you to convert on-the-fly ...
to
xmount allows to boot acquired harddisk images using QEMU, KVM, VirtualBox,
VMware or alike. It will convert on-the-fly ...

That will help to quickly understand purpose of this software.

Bug#898696: akonadi: Akonadi enter in a loop because it can't read account password

2018-05-15 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: libkf5mailtransportakonadi5
Version: 17.12.3-1
Severity: normal
File: akonadi

Dear Maintainer,

One IMAP Akonadi agent try forever, without success, to read the password from
Kwallet. All passwords are stored in kwallet, which is setup to allways give
access on request.
Launching Akonadiconsole show message like "Can't read password. User has
rejected Kwallet access for this Agent." (which I haven't).
It allways happens at the session launch. But sometimes nothing happens for the
entire day.
The bug begins after last major update.
I tried without success to :
- disabling email checking for this IMAP account (even after Akonadi or session
restart) ;
- erasing password : Akonadi ask for the password and then try forever to read
it ;
- restarting Akonadi ;
- restarting session.

The emails are all stored locally for offline reading.
Launching Kmail, I can read and browse emails from this "faulty" account.

Just in case, the IMAP account is from free.fr, the two others are from gmail
and OVH.

Furthermore :
- I would expect Akonadi to not try to connect if email checking is disabled.
- The whole KDE desktop became unusable as all menus and pop-up flickers on
access. All mouse clicks on menus are silently rejected. Fortunatly, I have
direct access to terminal icon. I'm not using wayland.

Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Some packages (not in debian repository) still require python-pypdf (the
original

compatibility
(pypdf2 FAQ says "Migration to PyPDF2 from pyPdf should be utterly
transparent")
could it provide python-pypdf as a virtual package ?

Comments/Problems:
Grub install failed, because of Bios security options (linked to UEFI).
Not a big problem, as you guys allways does a good job!

But I would like to suggest this improvement:
-
Entering Rescue Mode, d-i ask for root file system, displaying a list of
partition without further informations.
The choice is not easy, as you can't exactly remember what you've done a few
minutes (hours) before. A few informations, like size, label, filesystem type
would help a lot.
May be d-i should launch partitioner before rescue mode, in a "safe mode" like
(not allowing changes), because its screen gives every informations one need.

Bug#779276: kdelibs5-plugins: a reference to hebrew hspell dictionary is hardcoded in /usr/lib/kde4/kspell_hspell.so

2015-02-26 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: kdelibs5-plugins
Version: 4:4.14.2-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Akonadi is allways reporting the following error message:
"Hspell: can't open /usr/share/hspell/hebrew.wgz.sizes"

Actually, this file path is hardcoded in the binary
/usr/lib/kde4/kspell_hspell.so

I've made some search in source files. My results may be totally unrelated but
as I know nothing about C++ I give them :

1. in Sonnet's source code there is something related to hebrew numbers. See
source in
https://projects.kde.org/projects/frameworks/sonnet/repository/revisions/master/entry/src/plugins/hspell/hspelldict.cpp

2. in file [kde4libs_4.14.2-5.debian.tar.xz] there is a lintian override ;
kdelibs5-plugins.lintian-overrides contain the string :
"kdelibs5-plugins: hardening-no-fortify-functions usr/lib/kde4/kspell_hspell.so"

Thanks for all the work you are doing.

Hi,

Can't reproduce here, with same packages but in french.

Could you provide more informations ?
Did you change anything in Dolphin config ? And in places ?
Can you test this on a brand new account ?
Can you install a different language file just for testing ?

Did you check in Kde BTS if there is similar reports?

I don't see your point here. No matter if it is USB / SATA / eSAta / IDE /

But a message could be shown telling user that a partition is ignored (thus

Bug#705786: disagree...

2014-05-05 Thread Xavier Brochard
Hello

I disagree. There is no reason to add such very specific and advanced shortcut
in a tool that is supposed to be used by normal users.
I too add my own shortcuts to Konqueror because it is what advanced users are
supposed to do.
Current Debian shortcuts are all related to packages (package and backport
search, bug reports search), which looks reasonable for normal users. Even Kde
shortcuts are all around normal and advanced users, not programmers or
techcrunch sysadmins.

Bug#704482: related bug report in kde

2014-05-05 Thread Xavier Brochard

This bug report in kde BTS is about the same problem
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195044

Comment #18 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195044#c18
says the problem is adressed by "please wait" notification in the USB widget.

All comments says that the sync problem is intended behavior in Linux / Unix.
However, there is many duplicates reports, and Kde devs take this seriously
because it's a user experience problem (rather than a bug).

I will test the "please wait" notification. If it works, I suggest we close

Bug#646831: can't confirm

I can't confirm this using kde 4.11.5 on Jessie

I've tested on one randowly web page from www.lupa.cz during 30 minutes using
webkit engine.

While it's true that konqueror's memory consumption vary, it actually grow and
decrease because of the web site. But never more than 30% of the memory on a
Pentium 4 with 768 MB of memory. Note that iceweasel use more memory than
konqueror!

In my opinion this bug can be closed because :
- it refer to an old version
- no more report about this for 3 years now
- current version works well

Bug#671932: bug to be closed soon

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard
Following is a comment from Nik Lutz (veromix maintainer):

--
I think I experienced the same problem (in ubuntu) multiple times
during updates to newer kde versions. The bug you are referring to is
from 2012 and I'am sure python plasmoids worked shortly after that
(else there would be more reports).

According to http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kde-workspace.html there
where several new package-uploads to debian testing during the last
month I belive that they where built/linked against an older python
version, or python-scriptengine-python was built/linked against an
older version of kde.

Most probably this problem gets solved during the next weeks - in the
meantime you could try to build kde-workspace yourself (in case you
have enough time and diskspace: apt-get source kde-workspace ; apt-get
build-dep kde-workspace; cd kde-workspace ; dpkg-buildpackage -b)

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard
After some investigate in other BTS :

Plasma crash because of python-based plasmoids.

Workaround :
- removing plasma-scriptengine-python package and things are back to normal

Upstream (Aaron Seigo) says problem is in the python binding. See :

After some tests, I confirm the bug is still present in Jessie, although
plasma-desktop restart gracefully (KDE 4.11.5).

Note that plasma-widget-veromix is the only debian packages depending on

I will request some help from Nik Lutz about this (he is maintainer of veromix

Bug#664898: this report can be closed

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard

I suggest to close because :
- This was reported upstream as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=279665
- Upstream fixed it in 4.8, so it's fixed for jessie

There's also good workarounds mentionned here.

Bug#743915: apache2: wrong DOCUMENT_LOCATION in fhs_compliance.patch in apache2_2.4.9-1.debian.tar.xz source package

2014-04-08 Thread xavier brochard
Package: apache2
Version: 2.4.9-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

This report is about the packaging :

While you change default apache2 DOCUMENT_ROOT to /var/www/html
in the file /debian/config-dir/sites-available/000-default.conf,
it is still set to /var/www in the file /debian/patches/fhs_compliance.patch
(see #define DOCUMENT_LOCATION "/var/www").

On some cases this result in apache ignoring default config file and using
DOCUMENT_LOCATION as DOCUMENT_ROOT

Another minor bug is that the index.html default file is located in /var/www
instead of /var/www/html

Regards
Xavier

Bug#642532: linux-image-2.6.32-5-486: usbcore crash, making keyboard and mouse unusable Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-35 Severity: important

2011-09-23 Thread xavier brochard
Package: linux-image-2.6.32-5-486
Version: 2.6.32-35

We are using Debian LTSP with Geode based thin-client (which are Artec Thincan
DBE-63).
While writing an email with kmail, keyboard and mouse suddenly switch to a
strange "auto-typing" and "auto-clicking" mode.
Several unplugged and plug back of the usb parts change nothing.

Below is an extract of dmesg output:

Bug#639869: [libpodofo-utils] add Readme and sample plans for podofoimpose

2011-08-31 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: libpodofo-utils
Version: 0.9.0-1
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
libpodofo-utils deliver several utilities. One of them, podofoimpose, is
specially hard to use without a bit of documentation.
The svn of the project @ sourceforge.net contains that documentation:
in podofoimpose/
README.html
sample.pdf
sample.plan
and a "plans" directory with useful ones.

see

Bug#633980: synaptic-kde.desktop doesn't allow unprivilege users to launch it

2011-07-15 Thread Xavier Brochard

Package: synaptic
Version: 0.75.2
Severity: important

synaptic-kde.desktop should use the full path to the Synaptic binary file (like
in synaptic.desktop).
Currently it launch the authorization dialog, and when the user check the
ignore button, Synaptic fail to
launch because /usr/sbin is not in the user's path.

Just replace that line
Exec=synaptic
with
Exec=/usr/sbin/synaptic
to make it works.

Bug#633890: [linux-2.6] kernel oops while disconnecting usb cdrom

2011-07-14 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.39-3
Severity: normal

Hello

Using latest kde4.6.4 with Dolphin, I was copying a Debian DVD iso image from
the system hard drive to a
usb connected hardrive.
I plugged a USB DVD Writer, opened the tray, inserted an empty DVD-RW, closed
the tray, then unplugged
the USB DVD Writer.
This immediatly result in a kernel oops (I guess), syslog displayed
full-screen, crash of Dolphin and
interrupted copy (but not reported by notification system).
Display return normal after a few second (and me playing with Alt+Fn).

In case this is relevant, the usb hard drive is formated with ext2.

Regards
xavier brochard

Bug#625206: kvm: kvm package's description point users to kvm-qemu instead of qemu-kvm

Title says all, this is only a typo in the kvm dummy package description.

I'm very sorry, I can see that Martin-Eric asked several time if this bug
apply to new packages but I totally forgot to follow this bug that I reported.

After some brief testing and asking to users:
- we revert the package to version 2.10.1-2
- I've removed one Geode client (Thincan DBE62D-700) where we have had
difficulties to do a Bios update in 2009.
After that:
- nobody seems to remember about a freeze
- even if it happened, it didn't happened more than 1 or 2 time in one year
with 3 Geode client in use.

From my point of view this bug was more a hardware than software bug and _can
be closed_. But I can do some test next week, with the removed Geode client,
if you want.

regards
and awfully sorry for being so late to answer

Bug#586989: [aptitude] package state could use same letter than keyboard shortcuts

2010-06-24 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.3-2
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello
forgive me if this was already reported or discuss, but I've browsed the huge
bug report list without finding this one.

It's just a wish:
it would help new users if aptitude-curse used same letters for package states
(left column of packages list) and for keyboard shortcuts.
May be old users can find this useful too... at least not disturbing.
This can be made as an option.

Thanks for this great software, that I use for years!

Bug#584880: [lxr-cvs] proposal update to the documentation

2010-06-07 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: lxr-cvs
Version: 0.9.5+cvs20071020-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
This is a proposal to update the README.Debian file regarding mainly the
postgresql setup.

Suggested changes are in Dependencies, Setup 1, Edit the lxr config and Build
the cross-reference.

I propose:
---

Dependencies
---
...
This packages need:
...
- swish-e package (not to be confused with swish++)

(I suggest to add this because lxr-cvs was not working for me until I add this
package, but I use lxr-cvs to browse Perl code, not Linux-src)

Setup
--
...
1) Set up the database.
...
  For Postgresql:

Create a Linux user account for lxr, named "lxr".

Get a shell for the database superuser 'postgres'. If your system has an
active root user, use su:
   $ su -c "su -s /bin/sh postgres"
If your system uses sudo to get administrative rights, use sudo instead:
   $ sudo -u postgres sh
Add the previously created user account in Postgresql and give the user
permission to create databases:
createuser lxr
Create a database for lxr:
createdb -U lxr lxr
Add a web server account (unprivilege):
createuser www-data
Logout and login in the normal shell as "lxr"
Initialize the database:
 psql -U lxr lxr
  \i /usr/share/doc/lxr-cvs/examples/initdb-postgres
Just ignore the errors (if any) about unimplemented functions.

...

3) Edit the lxr configuration file. (/etc/lxr-cvs/lxr.conf)
...
You should check the location of swish-e index database files. The
directory should be writable for the "lxr" user:
 'swishdir' => '/var/lib/lxr-cvs/index/',

...
5) Build the cross-reference:
Open a shell for the lxr user and do:
genxref --url=http://localhost/lxr --allversions

---
end of suggests!

As I used lxr to browse a different source tree than the linux one, if you
think that a little documentation can help users, I can write it.

regards
xavier

Bug#584716: [lxr-cvs] missing path to swish-e.conf

2010-06-05 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: lxr-cvs
Version: 0.9.5+cvs20071020-1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
The /usr/bin/genxref file expect a swish-e.conf file to be in the same path
(/usr/bin). lxr-cvs can't be run without this file.
The swish-e.conf should be located in /etc/lxr-cvs and path to this file added
in /usr/bin/genxref at line 192 (near end of file). Like this:
open($swish,
  "| "
  . $config->swishbin

This is an old bug report, I think I've used lilo because the installer was
unable to setup grub. I've installed grub (and then grub2) manually later.

Bug#564206: [xserver-xorg-video-geode] mouse and desktop killed on Geode client

2010-01-08 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: xserver-xorg-video-geode
Version: 2.11.1-1~bpo50+1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

We use LTSP 5 on Debian Lenny. Clients are good old PC working perfectly and 4
Thincan DBE62D-700. I've done a bios upgrade on the Thincans to fix a system
freeze (see #539178).
Since that update we see random freeze of the mouse on the Thincans. We use
KDE desktop. Applications and GUI are still working, the desktop itself become
black (kdesktop killed), but the taskbar, the K menu, etc. are still running.

I know that backports packages are not suported, but as I have debug
informations, I guess it might help you for new versions.

I will revert the package to version 2.10.1

Here's the debug informations with the step by step operations.
I give you 2 cases.

1. GENERAL CASE
- mouse and keyboard are ps/2 on the same usb converter.

user was copying a picture by drag and drop:
mouse freezed, black desktop (kdesktop killed) but applications, K menu,
taskbar and keyboard still running.
user closed the session normaly
still no mouse on ldm
restart X with ctrl-alt-backspace
still no mouse
user plugged a usb mouse: it works, but the ps/3 mouse no
try to unplug/plug the usb/ps2 converter: no mouse ad no keyboard

The ps2/usb converter was tested on another station: works fine.

Here's the debug from dmesg:

Bug#539178: xserver-xorg-video-geode: complete freeze of a geode client (thincan DBE61)

I'm not a developer, sorry if this idea sounds absurd, but could this be a
problem with video memory ?

Because browsing the user's .xsession-error file, I can see many freezes
following errors from either gecko (mozilla), kpdf (kde pdf reader) or a line
with kernel/qpixmap_x11.cpp, line 750: Out of memory

And Mozilla and Kpdf are know to use the X server memory for caching.

Bug#457189: please add tab support

2009-10-06 Thread Xavier Brochard
Just an email to make a remember about this nice feature ;-)

Use case:
Browsing bugs before reporting a new one, I found or remember about another
bug, I have not yet reported. If I want to keep my actual list of bug reports
open, I have to launch another bugreport session.

PS: if implementing tab interface can't be done quickly, could you simply add
a file menu entry to open a new session of reportbug-ng ?

thanks for this great software

You're right! I should have thinking twice before sending this bug report...

However, as the removal doesn't have the expected behaviour (for the user
point of view), users should be warn. Something in package description and/or
in package removal message could help.

Anyway, thanks for your answer.

Yes, I know. :)
But the same freeze happens also with normal Lenny package. And the backport
is yours!

It will be a log before the freeze.
There is no log after the freeze (the thin client graphical interface froze
with no warnings and ssh connections just freeze along with everything else).

They were bought around may 2008.

Even if it is before the freeze ?
I'm not familiar with gdb, but does something like running startx through gdb
(and then bt if it is not freezed) useful for you?
It will be done in a week or two.

Bug#539178: xserver-xorg-video-geode: complete freeze of a geode client (thincan DBE61)

2009-07-29 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: xserver-xorg-video-geode
Version: 2.11.1-1~bpo50+1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hello,

I use LTSP 5 on Debian Lenny. clients are good old PC working perfectly and 4
Thincan DBE62. The Thincan DBE62 randomly freeze several time a day.
The freeze happened randomly, using Iceweasel (mozilla seamonkey), kmail,
openoffice, konqueror, Adobe's flash, ... even with screensaver.

The Thincan DBE-62 has a Geode LX700 microprocessor and 256 MB of ram. Exact
model is DBE62D-700 - see http://wiki.thincan.org/DBE62
We don't use flat-screen (I changed that in the Thincan's bios but it has no
effect).

I have tried various solutions suggested on the web (including from Martin-Eric
Racine blog and Launchpad.net bug reports), even if it has little simlilarity
with my
problem, but nothing works.

The chroot is up to date (last lenny packages), geode driver is the last one
fom backports.org (xserver-xorg-video-geode 2.11.1-1~bpo50+1), but previous
packages were
freezing the system also. The geode-dbg package is also installed.

Here's the last LTSP lts.conf

Bug#534183: fglrx-driver: tell users that fglrx replace some parts of the window system

2009-06-22 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: fglrx-driver
Severity: wishlist

Hello
Users are usually not aware of fglrx replacing some parts of the XWindow system.
I suggest to add something in the description about that. This will have 2
benefits:
Users will know it _before_ installing.
When they'll encounter a bug (XWindow not starting for example), they'll
discover more easily that it is not enough to change the driver (ati or vesa
instead of fglrx) but they must also remove fglrx (yes, it is a real case :-).

Bug#508431: gtk-qt-engine-kde4: hide icons and menus in openoffice.org 2.4

2008-12-11 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: gtk-qt-engine-kde4
Version: 1.1+svn145-1
Severity: important

After installing ktk-qt-engine-kde4, setup with "use my KDE style..." and "Use
my KDE fonts...", OpenOffice.org (at least OOo writer) doens't display icons or
menus. It
happened randomly, but moving the mouse cursor upons icons or menus,
hide/display them.
The explanation will be more understandable seeing the attached screenshot.

Hope dmesg is what you need, but there is not much information.
The slowness is before the kernel boot, while Lilo is loading the kernel,
before loading initrd and before the kernel boot.

Thank you.
I've found the same bug in Lilo's bug #398957
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=398957

Apologizes for didn't finding it before.
If I reassign the bug to Lilo, should I merge it with #398957 ?

Thank you

hello
yes, I thought about something like that, but it fail before booting the
kernel, at the LILO prompt.
It's exactly the same that this old bug report: #360011

"large-memory" was already in the lilo.conf

Thanks for the explanation.
I didn't use device number. Actually /etc/lilo.conf contain:
# Specifies the device that should be mounted as root. (`/')
#
root=/dev/mapper/debian-root

I was very surprised to see the content of /proc/cmdline and checked also in
/etc/initramfs-tool/* and /etc/lvm/* files (found nothing related).

I'm sorry I should have provide more informations, but I was unable to access
the hard drive. I've just finish to install another system on the hard drive
and can access it now (my DSL live CD couldn't). Tell me if you need more
informations (log files, etc.).

Please reopen the bug.

Bug#505613: Kernel unable to mount file system and to execute init

2008-11-13 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-9
Severity: critical

I've downgraded my kernel from 2.6.26-10 to 2.6.26-9 after the system became
unbootable (see bug report #505609). Now the system boot, but stop before
mounting the file system and executing init. See below for the output.

The system is entirely on LVM. Partitions comes from the same Volume Group:
/ (root file system)
/tmp
/usr
/var
/home
/usr/local
swap
/media/empty

While the system was unbootable (see bug report #505609), I've used the rescue
mode of the Debian installer CD-ROM to boot, to mount the root and the /var
partitions (and also /proc et /sys) and reinstall the package linux-
image-2.6.26-1-amd64-2.6.26-9.deb (which was still on the hard drive). There
was no errors in the output.
I've rebooted, Lilo launch the new kernel, as slow as before (see my bug
report 505579), the kernel boot and failed to mount filesystem and execute
init. Here's the output:
-

Then I got a shell in the initrd image.

cat /proc/cmdline:
BOOT_IMAGE=Linux ro root=fd00
(which is correct, Lilo -q -v5 shows me that 0xFD00 is /dev/debian/root)

I've rebooted the system using Debian installer, and tried to:
reinstall kernel
run mkinitramfs
run lilo
but nothing change after that.

please tell me if you need more informations.

Bug#505609: Unbootable after kernel upgrade: Lilo can't load kernel

2008-11-13 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-10
Severity: critical

I've did an upgrade on 2008-11-09, on a new installed system, upgrading kernel
2.6.26-09 to 2.6.26.10. Apt was also upgraded.
I've seen nothing strange during upgrade and in the apt and dpkg logs. The
system is entirely on LVM partitions.

When reboting I obtain this message from Lilo:
"Loading LinuxEBDA is big; kernel setup stack overlaps LILO second stage".
and the computer halt.

Bug#505579: kernel's loading taking 2 or 3 minutes

2008-11-13 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-9
Severity: normal

I've had problems booting with Lilo: kernel's loading take 2 or 3 minutes (may
be even more).

The whole system is on LVM, using Debian Sid..
It's a brand new install on a Dell Latitude 131L laptop, using a new hard
drive (after a crash of the previous HD). This new hard drive is of the same
model as the previous one, except the size which is double.

Previously the laptop was running (fine) Debian Sid but without LVM.

I'm not able to give more details because currently the system is unbootable
after an upgrade to version 2.6.26-10. See bugs not yet reported with
subjects:
1. "Unbootable after kernel upgrade: Lilo can't load kernel"
2. "Kernel unable to mount file system and to execute init"

The app complain at startup but use the "gnome" theme.
Adding gtk-icon-theme-name="gnome" in my gtkrc change nothing.

I forgot to say: I don't use gnome, only some gnome apps sometimes.

Should I fill a bug report for GTK+ of for apps ?

however, the name should be provided in package description :-)

Hi,
when using gnome apps with another desktop, some of them (e.g. PCMan File

they ask for defining theme in ~/.gtkrc-2.0
But it is hard to find the correct theme name for package gnome-icon-theme, as
the name is not in package description.

Here's the backtrace:

OK, can you install the gnumail.app-dbg package (also from
experimental), and generate another backtrace. This will give more
useful information.

Thanks.

Bug#461453: gnumail.app: GNUMail close and said "read failed" on startup

2008-01-18 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: gnumail.app
Version: 1.2.0~pre3+snap20071004-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I've setup GNUMail with 2 imap accounts.
After using it for 3 days, it suddenly close on startup saying "read failed" on
command line.
(before that I've also had frequent crashes while quickly checking emails in
imap folders)

regards
xavier

I've done it. I've also installed gnustep-make (see below)

it segfault at startup
debugapp show this error
/usr/share/GNUstep/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh: line
210: /usr/share/GNUstep/Makefiles/filesystem.sh: missing file

The missing file is in gnustep-make package.

I'm not a specialist, may be I shouldn't quit gdb after that, or
instruct gdb to do something (what ?)?
The beginning says "no debugging symbol found" multiple times.

Sorry! it's so stupid.
I didn't find the PGP bundle in /usr/lib/GNUstep/System/Library/
I remove the /usr/lib/GNUstep/ApplicationSupport/GNUMail/PGP.bundle
and it works now.

many thanks

BTW: there was a missing dependencie on gnustep-make, gnumail
can't run without it.

xavier

The "Categorie" field is missing in the kompose.desktop file, this exclude
kompose from the Kde menu.
I suggest to add the same field as klipper.desktop:
Categories=Qt;KDE;Utility;X-KDE-Utilities-Desktop;
