Bug#854966: npm always fails to connect to registry.npmjs.org for installs

2017-02-12 Thread Derek Cunningham
Package: npm
Version: 1.1.4~dfsg-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
This has occurred after having a number of issues installing node
and nodejs on Debian Wheezy. doing a apt-get update does not
find a newer version of npm but various forums suggest this as solution.
Bottom line npm seems not suitable for Wheezy without some
complex config issues.

Bug#845683: grub2: /etc/default/grub: incorrect code comment

2016-11-25 Thread Ryan Cunningham
Source: grub2
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The file 'debian/default/grub' in the GRUB 2 source code tree, which
becomes
'/etc/default/grub' when GRUB 2 is installed, has an incorrect comment
line.
Such a line says that the text-mode terminal only works in 'grub-pc'; I
have
tested the functionality with 'grub-efi-amd64' on my MacBook and it
works
perfectly, with an 80x25 character EFI console centered on my MacBook
screen.

Though I am not sure, this functionality may also work with PowerPC, IBM
POWER,
and Sun SPARC machines.

A patch is attached against the GRUB 2 source code tree, which will fix
this
problem.

Bug#700971: nslcd mangles config file upon update

If i understand the process, are debian scripts actually parsing out
options that you've configured and attempting to regenerate the config
file? Should it not be done the same as any other package with a
changed config file. You're prompted to install the package
maintaner's version or keep your own and have the ability of doing a
diff. Not to mention there doesn't actually seem to be any changes
needed in this case. Why even attempt to mess with the config file at
all?

Thanks, this provides some information to go on. Do you happen to have
information from debconf after and perhaps before the upgrade? The
 configuration can be dumped with:
   debconf-show nslcd

If you don't have a backup of /var/cache/debconf/ it could be that an
config.dat-old file is present with different information. Do you
remember if there were any debconf prompts during the upgrade?

 Thanks,

Bug#700971: nslcd mangles config file upon update

2013-02-19 Thread Mark Cunningham
Package: nslcd
Version: 0.7.15+squeeze3
Severity: grave

This may be related/the same as #696445. I didn't want to hijack the
thread with an unrelated bug just in case. I do believe this (and the
other bug should be tagged as grave). This essentially locks you out
of ssh (if you rely on a user within ldap) upon next nslcd
restart/reboot. Depending on your setup (remote/cloud etc), this can
effectively render your machine useless.

This may have existed for a while and not be related to the recent
update. I thought someone was screwing with nslcd.conf and not telling
me when they realised it broke but it was probably updating that did
it.

2013-01-24 Thread Mark Cunningham
Package: ircd-hybrid

Can i recommend/request making ircd-hybrid 8 a separate package (such
as ircd-hybrid8)? Given that apparently version 7 and version 8
servers are incompatible when peering. (and on a minor note, the
config files/option names have changed a good bit where manual fixing
of config files may be required by the user).

Creating a separate package would stop people having to downgrade in
the future if they upgrade to 8 and therefore can't connect to their
irc network any more.

I'd be in favour of having a version 8 package available as an option
though to install side by side. I'm going by the

Bug#698027: server should fail to start if ssl required conf options exist without ssl support

2013-01-12 Thread Mark Cunningham
Package: ircd-hybrid
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

*** End of the template - remove these lines ***

SSL support isn't included by default however the server does not fail to
launch if ssl options are included in config

When I tested it, connect blocks were simply dismissed if they included config
options such as cryptlink flag or  encrypted = yes;
Meaning, if a connect block had one of these options and you were to do
/sconnect connectblockname in order to connect to the server,
the server would come back with connect block not found.

Suggested action:
Upon option that would require ssl support being found in the config file, the
server should fail to start, indicate which option it is failing on and link to
the /usr/share/doc/ircd-hybrid file that explains about ssl support.

This may be a drastic approach as people may have configs with ssl options
running at the moment and this update will stop the server from running.

At the very least, output a clear message to the log files about ssl support
and connect block being ignored with them. Without it, there are no clear
indications what would cause a connect block not to be recognised.

Bug#661954: ssmtp: ssmtp.conf is world readable

2012-03-02 Thread mark cunningham
Package: ssmtp
Version: 2.64-4
Severity: important

ssmtp is world readable upon fresh install. This issue seems to be the same
as bug #500454 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=500454 back
in 2009 however it should have been fixed. Either it wasn't (in which case,
the bug report needs to be reopened i'd imagine)
or the permissions have been altered to be world readable again.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 577 Mar 2 22:59 /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf

The solution posted in #500454 sounds sufficient. I'll just quote it here
for handiness
--
Please consider fixing this.
Example methods:
Add an ssmtp group, change the ownership and permissions of /etc/ssmtp/*
to root:ssmtp 0640 or 0660, and make ssmtp/sendmail root:ssmtp and
setgid so that when run by a user, it runs as group ssmtp and gets
permission to read the file; the user won't ever have permission to
read. You could also use the existing mail group, if appropriate.

You could also do this using setuid to root or a ssmtp user, but this is
unnecessary and has potential security implications that a simple setgid
change would not.

This won't require any code changes; it's simply an
ownership/permissions tweak.

Bug#521237: gfax: Unmet dependencies

2009-03-25 Thread Alistair Cunningham

Package: gfax
Version: 0.7.6-11
Severity: normal

Gfax fails to install with the following error:

# apt-get install gfax
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
gfax: Depends: libevolution3.0-cil (= 0.17.1) but it is not installable
Depends: libgnome2.0-cil (= 2.20.0) but it is not installable
Depends: libgnomeprint2.2-0 ( 2.18.6) but 2.18.6-1 is to be
installed

The package includes a backporting script that removes some later
features. Try running debian/backports/etch before building on Etch.

I ran debian/backports/etch before logging the bug report which resolved alot
of the dependencies.

Ive just ran debian/backports/etch.xorcom though this didnt appear to remove
libc-client2007b-dev as a build dependency.

A quick ammendment to sed has fixed this though. See attached patch.

Asterisk is now building on my etch box.

Cheers.

I think you mean a link from /etc/mantis/custom_strings_inc.php to
$MANTIS_DIR/custom_strings_inc.php. But as the mantis package is not
shipped with a custom_strings file I don't really see a reason to ship a
link to a non-existing file. Do i miss something?

Patrick,

I mean that core/custom_strings_inc.php is a symlink to normal file
/etc/mantis/custom_strings_inc.php. This would allow the system
administrator to put custom strings in
/etc/mantis/custom_strings_inc.php, and have them override the language
strings (e.g. lang/strings_english.txt) in a way that won't break when
upgrading the the package.

Bug#439959: No link for custom_strings_inc.php

2007-08-28 Thread Alistair Cunningham

Package: mantis
Version: 1.0.7+dfsg-1

There should be a symlink from core/custom_strings_inc.php to
/etc/mantis/custom_strings_inc.php. This would allow this code in
core/lang_api.php to work:

# Allow overriding strings declared in the language file.
# custom_strings_inc.php can use $g_active_language
$t_custom_strings = dirname ( dirname( __FILE__ ) ) .
DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR . 'custom_strings_inc.php';

if ( file_exists( $t_custom_strings ) ) {
require( $t_custom_strings ); # this may be loaded multiple
times, once per language

}

Bug#439959: No link for custom_strings_inc.php

2007-08-28 Thread Alistair Cunningham

schönfeld / in-medias-res wrote:

That does not seem to be an optimal solution.

You should be able to use this procedure anyways:
1) create a custom_strings_inc.php in /etc/mantis
2) link it to /usr/share/mantis/www/

and finally
3) include it from config_local.inc.php

As config_local.inc.php is not touched during installation/upgrading
(neither are self-created files) this is the preferred way and should
not break when upgrading the package. If it would break, then it would
be a bug.

The problem with that is the symlink in /usr/share/mantis/www is not
part of the .deb. Therefore removing the debian package will break
because the directory is not empty, and installing the package on a new
machine will not include the symlink.

No, it will not really break. But leave the local modifications alone.
And thats fine, cause custom strings are really modifications and not
something everybody needs.

because the directory is not empty, and installing the package on a new

Thats right. But where is the problem in this?

Anyways, I'll think about touch'ing a custom_strings.inc.php during
postinst and symlink it into the directory. This should solve your problems.

Best Regards

Patrick

Looking very good so far. My data source which contains multiple DS's is
sticking and showing in the lists. Ill create some graphs and some data

What was broken in 0.8.6h-2?

Hi Martin.

2.1.5.15 for now. Other versions can be easily added. The files are

That sounds good to me. My intention is that the 2.x.x releases should
be the more stable ones, with the extra level being for development
toward the next stable release. Apart from 2.1.5.15 SMP patch Bernard
mentioned, 2.1.5.15 will probably become 2.1.6, but not until after I
get home again (Monday, Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time). After
2.1.6 comes out, I'd suggest just updating to 2.1.7 and so on.
