Bug#987849: ssh: misleading "invalid format" message about public key when using private key

2021-04-30 Thread xavier renaut
Package: ssh
Version: 1:7.9p1-10+deb10u2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I deployed a new set of ssh-keys on a machine.
I installed (not on purpose) id_ed25519.pub with the from="ip" in front of the
key.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I'm trying to ssh from the host_1 to host_2

when running ssh from host_1 :
load pubkey "/home/devops/.ssh/id_ed25519": invalid format
x...@y.com: Permission denied (publickey,password).

I assumed my private key was wrong here, thus ending in authentication failure
(turns out it was not related, it was an issue on host_2)

   * What was the outcome of this action?

I started investigating my private key.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

instead of :
load pubkey "/home/devops/.ssh/id_ed25519": invalid format

I would like to see a .pub at the end, and also something that says
"informational, non-critical, non-related to current operation"

Something like :
+FYI not related
+ .pub at the end of the file name :
+ s/pub/loading Public/

FYI, not related : loading Public key "/home/devops/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub":
invalid format

Bug#927817: fvwm: windows shows again when reaching >65535 coordinates

2019-04-23 Thread xavier renaut
Package: fvwm
Version: 1:2.6.7-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I create a virtual desktop, 20x7

In my config :
DeskTopSize 20x7

Here is my screen :
screen #0:
  dimensions:3840x2160 pixels (1108x623 millimeters)

so, after the 17th screen, I have windows with coordinates which are over 65535.

They start re-showing up in the screen, (meaning the window is present in
coordinates +0+0 and also +65536+0 (or something like that)

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

To work around, I reduced my number of desktopsize to 17x7
(before that i also was using xinerama, which worsen the problem :
problem was showing at desktop 13 :
  (3840 + 1600) * 13 = 70720

   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I expect the windows not to repeat them selves in the desktops

Thanks !

Bug#910674: fvwm -replace 2>&1 & will bring all windows to desk 0

2018-10-09 Thread xavier renaut
Package: fvwm
Version: 1:2.6.7-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

sometimes I need to restart fvwm because it becomes too slow
(I do an heavy use of terminals and windows, xlsclients |wc -l often returns
~500)

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

fvwm -replace 2>&1 &

   * What was the outcome of this action?

every window come back to desk 1

i move windows from desk to desk like this :

# ctrl + numbers
Key 1 W C MoveToDesk 0 0 0 3
Key 2 W C MoveToDesk 0 1 0 3
Key 3 W C MoveToDesk 0 2 0 3
Key 4 W C MoveToDesk 0 3 0 3

they stay at their position on the desk though (eg, row 4, column 4, something
like coordinatinates 8000,4000 on an HD screen)

so I have to split again my windows and put them to the appropriate desk (1-3)

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

I expect the window to stay on the correct desk

It works as expected with fvwm 2.5, 2.6.5

Restart from the fvwm does not seems to have thoses ill effects with 2.6.7

   * What led up to the situation?
PCI and general good practice security requires sha256 or more for signing

looking in the x509 man page for sign options :

   -md2|-md5|-sha1|-mdc2
the digest to use. This affects any signing or display option that
uses a message digest, such as the -fingerprint, -signkey and -CA

so that we can edit the same file with nano or vi and get warning about it.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

right now we (multiple system administrators) could start editing the file.

there is a warning File was modified since you opened it, continue saving ?

Bug#748778: apt-dater: please add a reboot command

Package: apt-dater
Version: 0.9.0-7
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

upgrade of a kernel

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

worked very well.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

the box needs to reboot ; there is no shortcut in apt-dater to ssh sudo reboot
so after my quick and nice upgrade, i still have to ssh, login, su -, reboot.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Is it possible to add it ?

probably a config line with a shortcut - action directive would be nice.

ex : r = sudo reboot
g = sudo apt-get update
etc...

Bug#745659: xbuffy goes over xscreensaver and reveals the display

2014-04-23 Thread xavier renaut
Package: xbuffy
Version: 3.3.bl.3.dfsg-8
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I run xscreensaver :
ii xscreensaver 5.26-1
amd64Screensaver daemon and frontend for X11
ii xscreensaver-data 5.26-1
amd64Screen saver modules for screensaver frontends

I run it with xscreensaver-command -activate and xscreensaver-command -lock
(called via xautolock)

I run xbuffy.

when xscreensaver is locking the display, xbuffy can still display its list
and reveal the screen content. So whatever confidential info was on my screen
is available to ppl passing by my desk.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

xscreensaver should not allow displaying the content of the screen.

Bug#743666: smokeping: slave connecting to an https server : certificate verify failed

2014-04-04 Thread xavier renaut
Package: smokeping
Version: 2.6.8-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

configuring a slave while having the master on ssl

starting the slave states : (invoke-rc.d smokeping start)
WARNING Master said 500 Can't connect to XXXx.com:443 (certificate verify
failed)
ERROR: we did not get config from the master. Maybe we are not configured as a
slave for any of the targets on the master ?

so, it fails to start. no evident way to fix it.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

I started adding the cert to /etc/ssl/certs
+ hash link : for i in *pem *crt;do ln -sv $i `openssl x509 -hash -noout -in
$i`.0;done

   * What was the outcome of this action?

no change.
digged in source code, man LWP::UserAgent, man IO::Socket::SSL,
found out about PERL_LWP_SSL_CA_PATH.

set export PERL_LWP_SSL_CA_PATH=/etc/ssl/certs/ in /etc/default/smokeping
(should be default)

after that it worked

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

either works or suggest some remediation.

connecting every day to the same conference room.

ejabberd sends the last X logs of the conference room for context.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

pidgins logs multiple times the same log.
so when searching you have multiples matches of the same logs

Bug#742502: hnb: please remove sync operations in hnb

2014-03-24 Thread xavier renaut
Package: hnb
Version: 1.9.18-10
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

working on heavy loaded system (in particular IO)

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

if you press enter after editing a note, it's doing a sync

   * What was the outcome of this action?

super slow to be able to work again, after each enter it ask to sync

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

immediate return and being able to work

can we make this a config parameter ? I believe it's a very rare
for an app to call sync after each small edit. it's supposing the
computer will reboot without flushing it's cache any moment now.
which is not usually the case. only mysql or other db's have such
a data integrity feature.

thanks

Bug#730563: fvwm echo outputs too many lines (3 instead of 1)

2013-11-26 Thread xavier renaut
Package: fvwm
Version: 1:2.6.5.ds-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

with 1:2.6.5.ds-3, when doing echo reading in ~/.fvwm/main.menu, it prints 3
lines :
[fvwm.2][Echo]:
reading in ~/.fvwm/main.menu
(empty line here)

with 2.5.30, it printed 1 line :
[fvwm.2][Echo]: reading in ~/.fvwm/main.menu

can we revert to the old, terse yet complete echo behavior ?

I tail my fvwm all time to follow activity, and 3 lines instead of one is a
problem for me.

Bug#669124: bonnie++: missing , in the csv output, random seek latency and sequencial create latency have same column

2012-04-17 Thread xavier renaut
Package: bonnie++
Version: 1.96
Severity: normal

when i put everything in a csv file, some fields are mis-aligned.

in attachement, the csv file.

way to get the bonnie csv header :
cat EOF bonnie.csv
,,,Sequential,Output,Sequential,Input,,,Random,,Sequential,Create,Random,Create,Latency,Sequential,OutputRandom,Sequential,Create,,Random,Create
,,,Per Chr,,Block,,Rewrite,,Per
Chr,,Block,,Seeks,,Create,,Read,,Delete,,Create,,Read,,Delete,,,Per

EOF

# way to get the bonnie.csv

grep -P ',\d+,\d+,\d+' my-file bonnie.csv

here, the original benches.

have a look at the csv and see that random seek latency and sequencial create
latency have same column.

also, the 1319631752 test is missaligned too.(multiples fields, starting at
sequential create

Bug#650332: -extensions XXX can be specified on command line and openssl will silently ignore it

2011-11-28 Thread xavier renaut
Package: openssl
Version: 1.0.0e-2
Severity: normal

when i try to build a CA,

if i use :

openssl x509 -req -extensions v3_ca -sha256 -days 7300 -in toto.csr -signkey
toto.key -out toto.crt

openssl will not use the section v3_ca, and will happily output a wrongly
generated cert.
and worse of all, not say anything about the not used section.

the right command was :

openssl x509 -req -extfile /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf -extensions v3_ca -sha256 -days
7300 -in toto.csr -signkey toto.key -out toto.crt

in the x509 manpage, in the -extfile section, it is specified that -extfile is
mandatory.

however, I think that it should be told also in the -extensions section.

and more than that, it should print a warning not using extension XXX, extfile
not here

thanks

Bug#648768: tcpdump: does not include words mac address hardware in the -e option paragraph in the manpage

2011-11-14 Thread xavier renaut
Package: tcpdump
Version: 4.1.1-2+b1
Severity: minor

to print the hardware mac address,
the option is -e.

here is the manpage paragraph :
-e Print the link-level header on each dump line.

would be nice to add :

on ethernet : print the hardware mac address.

it would help searching the manpage.

thanks

Bug#647193: /usr/sbin/cron: (*system*) NUMBER OF HARD LINKS 1 (/etc/crontab)

2011-10-31 Thread xavier renaut
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-120
Severity: normal

I hard link /etc/crontab to track it under svn, but
to have the checkout somewhere else than /etc/

So /etc/crontab has 2 hardlinks,
and cron is now complaining about it :
Oct 3 09:35:01 natch /usr/sbin/cron[3878]: (*system*) NUMBER OF HARD LINKS 1
(/etc/crontab)

I saw an old vulnerability where cron and hardlinks
are involved : http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/34097,
but the actual flaw was wrong rights on a directory.

Is there something to do ? or the security gain is too high for this to be
fixed ?

thanks

Bug#647228: dhcpdump: does not parse the output of tcpdump

2011-10-31 Thread xavier renaut
Package: dhcpdump
Version: 1.8-2
Severity: minor

dhcpdump says, in the manual page :

This command parses the output of tcpdump to display the dhcp-packets
   for easier checking and debugging.

and also, in usage :
   dhcpdump -i /dev/fxp0

i found that it does not parse the output of tcpdump
(ala : tcpdump -lenx -s 1500 port bootps or port bootpc | dhcpdump)

but instead does all the work on its own :

dhcpdump -i eth0

please fix the manual page to say something like :

capture the dhcp traffic, analyze and display it.
and not
this tools parse the output of tcpdump.

the current manual page is misleading

thanks !

Bug#646494: swatch: mail sent should not be queued

2011-10-24 Thread xavier renaut
Package: swatch
Version: 3.2.3-1
Severity: normal

mail sent should not be queued,
or at least, provide an option to do so.

If I'm monitoring file, i'd want to be informed right away,
not wait for the next exim flush-queue event.

in Swatch/Actions.pm, the option -odq is used,
causing the mail to not be delivered.
I see it could level a storm of email messages,
but then the swatch config was wrong at the start.
(threshold should be used to counter that)

Bug#546802: openssl: add sha256 and also sha512 to the req and x509 manpages

2011-07-13 Thread xavier renaut
Package: openssl
Version: 0.9.8o-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

PCI is slowly phasing out sha1.

http://www.css-security.com/blog/times-up-for-sha-1-css-suggested-migration-path/
http://www.fips201.com/resources/audio/iab_0810/iab_082510_sha-2_migration.pdf
http://www.digicert.com/sha-2-ssl-certificates.htm

I was wondering why the windows port of openssl has the option for 256 and not
linux :-)

it would be nice to add -sha256 and -sha512 to the req and x509 man page, the
functionnality is there since lenny at least.

thanks !

Bug#610336: gnupg: key command has not a clear help message nor a clear output

2011-01-17 Thread xavier renaut
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.10-4
Severity: minor

I wanted to update the expire time of a subkey and i couldn't select it.

in the man page :
key n Toggle selection of subkey with index n. Use 0 to deselect all.

in the help from commandline :

key select subkey N

the problem is that the N is not precise enough. One could ask 'Is that the key
id ?'

worse, if you enter something like

key FB32E9CF

it wont print out a message, it will happily display the keys, as if it was
working.

the correct command would be

key 1

if you enter

key 1A0C62FA

it does the same thing, taking the first 1 only in account.

here is a description i'd like in the man page

key N where N is the subkey's index.
e.g. if the subkey whose validity you want to extend is the first listed
subkey, or if it is the only listed subkey, then the command would be
Command key 1
this will put a * after the word sub, indicating that this particular
subkey has been selected.

and the online help :

key select subkey N (eg: key 1. the selected key will be marked with an
*)

Bug#605054: openswan: manpage : ike=aes128-md5; modp2048 should be ike=aes128-md5-modp2048

the ipsec.conf manpage states :

 cipher-hash;modpgroup, cipher-hash;modpgroup, ...

in the ike section.

instead, it's ike=aes128-md5-modp2048, cipher-hash-modpgroup.

substitute ; by -.

It's very confusing trying to put ;modp1024 after ike=3des-md5 like in the
manpage
and having pluto/ipsec complaining.

Bug#555954: cron stops inspection of new cron jobs after a 'Error: bad hour; while reading'

2009-11-12 Thread xavier renaut
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-106
Severity: normal

if one creates a cron job in cron.d , wait for the reload,
change it again with a bad time, ie :

* 222 * * * root echo  /dev/null

cron will report

cron[26144]: Error: bad hour; while reading /etc/cron.d/test2

then you can correct it,
cron wont reload it, and wont pick up new files in this directory.

thanks.

Bug#542477: munin-node: apache plugins for https : if libcrypt-ssleay-perl missing, no stats, no logs

2009-08-19 Thread xavier renaut
Package: munin-node
Version: 1.2.6-12
Severity: normal

if libcrypt-ssleay-perl missing, and apache* enabled for an https host,
there is no errors in logs, the plugin just reports no stats.

this is a major pain when trying to find where the problem is.

if the libcrypt-ssleay-perl is not installed, it should print something in the
munin-log,
like

LWP will support https URLs if the Crypt::SSLeay module is installed.
More information at http://www.linpro.no/lwp/libwww-perl/README.SSL.

i ended up executing everything by hand,
like :

perl -e 'use HTTP::Request;use LWP; my $ua = LWP::UserAgent-new(timeout =
30);my $response =
$ua-request(HTTP::Request-new(GET,https://127.0.0.1:443/server-status?auto;));print
 $response-content;'

and only then it would print the problem.

the apache modules should tell that Crypt::SSLeay must be installed for https
checking.
(the best would be in the munin-node.log)

thanks

once i load onak with a few keys, lookup works fine for 10 times at most,

to reproduce :

sudo su -m $user -c 'rm -f /var/lib/onak/*'
sudo su -m $user -c 'cat /home/xavier/keys-onak-test | onak add'
# keys-onak-test was generated with gpg --export -a
# check if working :
sudo su -m $user -c 'onak index .de'

do some request until segfault :

/dev/null);do sleep .01;(( j += 1 )) ;done;echo $j

platform is amd64,

Package: mpd

I recently moved from locale en_US ISO-8859-1 to en_CA.UTF-8 UTF-8.

some mp3 files had accents in their names
(é for exemple)

in the shell they appear with ? instead of é.
(depends on the shell settings)

mpc listall wont list them.

to test :
export LANG=;export LC_ALL=POSIX;export LC_ALL=;export LC_CTYPE=en_US
xterm
in this xterm : cp test.mp3 é-iso.mp3

do the same operation with the other locales:

export LC_ALL=en_CA.UTF-8;export LANG=en_CA.UTF-8
xterm
in this xterm : cp test.mp3 é-utf8.mp3

mpc update (mpd is supposed to be running in the system wide utf8)

in zim, if you type 1 teaspoon sugar and press enter,
it will print 2 . you either have to delete it, or to press enter and
come back to be able to write an item list.
same goes with +, $...
50$ test will print 51$

this is very anoying when creating lists of items (shopping, cooking,
)

could this be optionnal ?

It works for me now. The bug is not present anymore.

Bug#475583: apt-cacher-ng: errors in logs Error creating download handler

2008-04-29 Thread xavier renaut

There is a way to gather more information but it's ugly.

 apt-get build-dep apt-cacher-ng
 apt-get source apt-cacher-ng
 cd apt-cacher-ng*
 make acng DEBUG=1
 /etc/init.d/apt-cacher-ng stop
 cp -a build/apt-cacher-ng /usr/sbin/apt-cacher-ng
 /etc/init.d/apt-cacher-ng start

Then let it run unless you run into this broken state... and make sure
your log directory has enough free space.

ok, i'll try. thanks.
meanwhile i have a 5 mins croned script :

Package: asterisk-config
Version: asterisk
Severity: normal

Hi,

i noticed a lot of stuff is included in extensions.conf for making calls
and all, but not the 911. i think it's important enough to add it, and
maybe add comments for people not in a country which accept 911.

something like :

[emergency]
exten = 911,1,Dial(${TRUNK}/${EXTEN})
exten = 9911,1,Dial(${TRUNK}/911)

and in [local]
include = emergency

would be great !

thanks.

Bug#344410: procmail: add a way to change env. var. on cmd line

2005-12-22 Thread xavier renaut
Package: procmail
Version: 3.22-11
Severity: wishlist

from the man page :

any default values will override any preexisting environment variables,
i.e., procmail will not pay any attention to any predefined
environment variables, it will happily overwrite them with its own defaults

So, it wipes anything we try to set.
we use the -p to Preserve any old environment, and it wipes it...

it would be usefull to preserve the env var :

procmail ~/.procmailrc VERBOSE=on LOGFILE=`tty`
/tmp/test/cur/1134493055.32704_1294.pecos:2,S

that would be nice if there was a way to divert values from the default,
to test.

thanks

Bug#339656: xnest: missing doc (from -h) in manpage

2005-11-17 Thread xavier renaut
Package: xnest
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-7
Severity: minor

Xnest -h yields a lot of information not in the manual page...
there could be a reference to the -h command line option in the manpage.

thanks

Bug#303567: /usr/bin/rxvt-xpm: with pixmap like this : rxvt.stil.xpm; 1-0+0, rxvt will tile the image if it can display 10 images

2005-04-07 Thread xavier renaut
Package: rxvt
Version: 1:2.6.4-6.2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/rxvt-xpm

I call rxvt this way :

rxvt-xpm -fn '-*-lucidatypewriter-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*' -pixmap
'/home/xavier/work/tmp/trash/rxvt.stil.xpm;1-0+0'

so rxvt.stil.xpm should not tile (0 : tile, 1 : no tile, 2-9 : the
number of images)

if the image is 200x80, and you maximize your rxvt to something larger
than 200x800, the pixmap will begin to tile it self

thanks

Bug#303450: imagemagick: choke on nan in a -draw text

2005-04-06 Thread xavier renaut
Package: imagemagick
Version: 6:6.0.6.2-2.2
Severity: normal

if the text string (in the -draw option) begins with nan, there is
something wrong happening, anything after nan is cut

$ convert -draw 'text 0,-20 nanook' ~/work/info/blanc.png
~/work/tmp/trash/rxvt.nanook.xpm
convert: Non-conforming drawing primitive definition `ook'.

enclosing it in quotes is a workaround. (any other string without nan is
working without quotes)

my full line :

$ convert -font helvetica-bold -pointsize 90 -fill '#FF' -gravity
northeast -draw text 0,-20 'nanook' ~/work/info/blanc.png
~/work/tmp/trash/rxvt.nanook.xpm

thanks

Bug#296667: rxvt: broken manpage about cutchars : BACKSLASH

2005-02-23 Thread xavier renaut
Package: rxvt
Version: 1:2.6.4-6.2
Severity: minor

   cutchars: string
The characters used as delimiters for double-click word
selection.
  The built-in default:
  BACKSLASH `'()*,;=[EMAIL PROTECTED]|}

if one does rxvt*cutchars: BACKSLASH `'()*,;=[EMAIL PROTECTED]|}
it will cut at B, A,C, K,S,L,A,S,H
which of course is not desired

it should be :

\ `'()*,;=[EMAIL PROTECTED]|}

thanks
