Sorry, I'm a twit. I've mostly got out of the habit of filing bugs without
thinking too much, but this one just got away from me. :-)

(I got a couple phone interviews, but I haven't got anything more promising
than that yet, although I'm waiting to hear back from one company)

The research group I work in (bioinformatics, Duke University) is looking
for someone to fill a sys admin/scientific software developer position for

mention it.

I can give more details if you want.

If you are interested, send me your cv.

Bug#319522: aptitude: should produce terrifying warnings when removing essential packages

2005-07-22 Thread Faheem Mitha
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.15.9-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

aptitude remove libc6

gives a lengthy list of packages, but is quite happy to remove them.

In contrast, apt-get gives all sorts of terrifying warnings, as I'm sure you
are aware. Eg.

WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
[snip]
You are about to do something potentially harmful
To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'
 ?]

I'd suggest adding in such warnings, to protect clueless users against
destroying their system.

How is the job hunt going?

Best regards. Faheem.
