This error message is coming from dhclient (dhcp3-client package) so I'm
wondering if running dhclient eth0 manually works for you? At first
sight, it doesn't look like a network-manager specific problem.
Do you have a special configuration on your dhcp server?

Yes, running dhclient eth0 works fine.

My DHCP Server actually is an AVM Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7170 with no
special modifications regarding DHCP.
NetworkManager also worked fine some time ago. But it's broken for about
a month now.
