Bug#509797: dosemu: blank screen on VT and xterm
On Fri, 26 Dec 2008, Bart Martens wrote: How exactly did you compile it ? Maybe there was a slight misunderstanding: I talked about compiling the official 1.4.0 release. That is: I grabbed dosemu-1.4.0 from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosemu/dosemu-1.4.0.tgz?download together with dosemu-freedos-1.0-bin.tgz. Unpacked, configured with "configure --prefix=/usr/local", executed make, su, make install. I can investigate more on this box, but I don't know much where to look. I was thinking maybe just the text is black together with the background, making it invisible. So I tried selecting a bunch of lines in gnome-terminal by mouse, thinking the text may appear, instead I saw random black blocks... i.e. some character positions were all white, some all black, no letter appeared anywhere. Btw. I also tried running dosemu with different locale (intead of my cs_CZ.UTF-8, I tried en_US.UTF-8 and C), but it didn't make any difference. I found out that setting $_video to "none" in dosemu.conf also works around that issue, although that's no solution for me, as I need vga. Maybe the difference lies in the difference of 1.4.0 official package and the source used for the debian package dosemu/1.4.0+svn.1828-2. - If that means it's a different revision than the 1.4.0 official release. Bug#509797: dosemu: blank screen on VT and xterm
Package: dosemu Version: 1.4.0+svn.1828-2+b1 Severity: important When I run dosemu on a real VT or in a terminal (without DISPLAY set), I get a blank screen. Running dosemu with correct DISPLAY= value (i.e. in X terminal emulator) pops up X dosemu window where all works ok. I found that a simple "cls" inside dosemu fixes this issue. A temporary workaround is adding a "cls" command somewhere near the top of /etc/dosemu/freedos/autoexec.bat. I tried compiling dosemu 1.4.0 locally and the resulting version worked correctly (i.e. no workaround to get a working screen was needed). -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.27.10 Locale: LANG=cs_CZ.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=cs_CZ.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dosemu depends on: ii libasound21.0.16-2 ALSA library ii libc6 2.7-16 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgpm2 1.20.4-3.1 General Purpose Mouse - shared lib ii libsdl1.2debian 1.2.13-2 Simple DirectMedia Layer ii libslang2 2.1.3-3The S-Lang programming library - r ii libsndfile1 1.0.17-4 Library for reading/writing audio ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxxf86vm1 1:1.0.2-1 X11 XFree86 video mode extension l dosemu recommends no packages. dosemu suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
