Bug#539337: winbind: Fails domain authentication
I am currently running those systems with winbind (and its samba friends) pinned to 3.2.5-2, so I don't know whether the bug exists in the current version or not. The bug is so serious that it makes winbind/samba completely useless for us. I can try to determine whether the bug still exists in the current version but this will take until sometime next week. A description of the bug is simply: On our domain-joined server, running winbind, attempting a wbinfo -a user%pass fails for both cleartext and challenge response. The server reports api_pipe_bind_req: unknown auth type 9 requested. In other words winbind appears to use an auth type unknown to the authentication server. Bug#539337: winbind: Fails domain authentication: still here?
The problem still exists with 3.4.8 (and 3.5.2 from experimental). Andreas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

tags 539337 moreinfo thanks Hello Andreas, In Debian bug #539337, you reported domain authentication issues with winbind in samba 3.4.0. Downgrading to 3.2.5 solved your problem. Please accept our apologies for not following up on your bug report. Have you tried to reproduce this problem with later versions of the samba packages in Debian. The current version in squeeze is not 3.4.7 and I even uploaded 3.4.8 in unstable yesterday. You can also try backports; from backports.org is you're using a lenny machine. -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#539337: winbind: Fails domain authentication
Package: winbind Version: 2:3.4.0-1 Severity: normal Bug #482623 which I reported agains 3.0.29-1 and that I confirmed fixed in 3.2.0-4 is back in 3.4.0-1. If I downgrade the samba/winbind packages to 3.2.5-2 everything works as expected. Please note that I am filing this bug after downgrading from 3.4.0-1 so the below version info for libwbclient0 and samba-common is incorrect. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages winbind depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii libc62.9-23 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcomerr2 1.41.8-2common error description library ii libkrb53 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-13 Transitional library package/krb4 ii libldap-2.4-22.4.17-1OpenLDAP libraries ii libpam0g 1.0.1-9 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpopt0 1.14-4 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libtalloc1 1.3.1-2 hierarchical pool based memory all ii libwbclient0 2:3.2.5-2 client library for interfacing wit ii lsb-base 3.2-23 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii samba-common 2:3.2.5-2 Samba common files used by both th winbind recommends no packages. winbind suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
