Bug#597676: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#597676: Bug#597676: [lyx] Export to PDF requires texlive-fonts-extra package
Sven Hoexter wrote (Friday 24 September 2010): In theory the reconfigure script should store its values in ~/.lyx/lyxrc.defaults Could you please check the differences there for the cases when it works and doesn't work? I've attached the file. I've checked, and it's identical before I run Reconfigure (PDF export options not available) and after I run Reconfigure (PDF export options now available). It also does seem to have some entries for export to PDF. I've also attached my preferences file, because it also contains some settings for viewing PDFs. Possible relevant, I'm not sure. Honestly, I've currently no good idea what could be wrong. Can I assume that your $HOME is on a real local filesystem and you're not running some strange syncronisation tool that maybe detects a modification and syncs back an old version or something similar weird? You can assume that, yes. My home is on the local FS, and I'm not doing anything that would be overwriting the files. Just bog-standard local ext3, that's all. The modification time of lyxrc.defaults updates when I run reconfigure, as you would expect, so it is saving the file. But the contents don't change. Peace, Brendon # This file has been automatically generated by LyX' lib/configure.py # script. It contains default settings that have been determined by # examining your system. PLEASE DO NOT MODIFY ANYTHING HERE! If you # want to customize LyX, use LyX' Preferences dialog or modify directly # the preferences file instead. Just cleared my .lyx directory and I've only texlive-fonts-recommended installed and everything works fine. I tried several pdf export options dvipdfm, pdflatex and ps2pdf. All work fine here. Could you please attach the ~./lyx/configure.log for the setup where the export did not work? Sven -- And I don't know much, but I do know this: With a golden heart comes a rebel fist. Strangely, I've now tried purging the fonts-extra package and after I run Reconfigure, the PDF options show in the export menu anyway (but don't stay there after I close LyX). I know I ran Reconfigure, without success, before I tried installing fonts-extra. Well, maybe the package triggers caused regeneration of some files that made LyX happier. :-/ Could you please attach the ~./lyx/configure.log for the setup where the export did not work? Attached. This is when I ran it before installing texlive-fonts-extra. I've checked and it's identical to the configure.log after purging fonts-extra. Also attached is the configure.log when texlive-fonts-extras is installed. Bug#597676: [lyx] Export to PDF requires texlive-fonts-extra package
Package: lyx Version: 1.6.7-1 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hi. I noticed that you cannot export to PDF file from the File-Export menu unless texlive-fonts-extra is installed. Otherwise, there is no PDF output option listed. You don't need to be writing any special document; a new default article behaves the same. To get the File-Export-PDF (*) options you have to install texlive-fonts-extra, and then tell LyX it exists by doing a Tools-Reconfigure. What's a bit weird is that you can still generate the preview PDF by clicking the View PDF toolbar button. This seems to work regardless of whether or not texlive-fonts-extra is installed. (Seems a bit suspicious to me, as if LyX doesn't really need texlive-fonts-extra to export to PDF, but insists on it anyway.)
