Bug#606340: No devices detected since upgrade to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.13.0-4

2010-12-13 Thread Bjoern Meier
Hi,

same here. But all kernel-modules (drm, apgpart, intel-agp) are
loading. Downgrade to xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.13.0-2_i386 solved my
problem

Greetings,
Björn

 Please attach the full dmesg.

I’m having the same issue (2:2.13.0-3 works for me, and 2:2.13.0-4 does

Please, let me know if I can provide any information to help.

Thanks.

And please look for 'install pci:v*d*sv*sd*bc03sc*i* /bin/true' in a
file in /etc/modprobe.d and report back.

Sorry, I forgot to check that as you asked yesterday.
Here it is:

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/display_class.conf
# This directive blacklists all devices which are members of the display
class.
# It has the main effect of preventing udev from autoloading the fb
drivers.

# vendor, device, subsystem_vendor, subsystem_device, class, class, class
install pci:v*d*sv*sd*bc03sc*i* /bin/true

Removing this file solves the problem for me.

As you said yesterday:
$ grep display_class /var/lib/dpkg/info/udev.preinst
  rm_conffile /etc/modprobe.d/display_class

Maybe the udev postinst script should also remove .conf version of the
files?
It is not impossible however that I manually renamed files to .conf,
because udev was complaining at boot time that files without .conf suffix
were deprecated.

Thanks,

  Matteo

Hi,

Since the last upgrade (2:2.13.0-2 - 2:2.13.0-4), X is unable to start

X starts normally with the vesa driver.

Hi Matteo.

Matteo Cypriani m...@lm7.fr (08/12/2010):
Since the last upgrade (2:2.13.0-2 - 2:2.13.0-4), X is unable to start
because the driver does not detect the video card (see the attached
 log).

Hmm, strange. Does downgrading work make it work again?

X starts normally with the vesa driver.

Good, at least there's one bit working.

I don't know what additional information would be useful, so please
don't hesitate to ask for details.

Please give us the output of:
| cat /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf

I see no drm-related messages in your dmesg excerpt. In contrast, mine has:
| $ dmesg|grep drm
| [ 18.319903] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810

You need to enable kernel mode setting (make sure
/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf says 'options i915 modeset=1') and get rid
of the vga=791 boot parameter.

Cheers,
Julien

Is there something special to do to activate DRM ?

That changes nothing (except that ugly 80-column console, but that was
expected). I still got the No devices detected message.

You need to enable kernel mode setting (make sure
/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf says 'options i915 modeset=1') and get rid
  of the vga=791 boot parameter.

That changes nothing (except that ugly 80-column console, but that was
expected). I still got the No devices detected message.

Please attach the full dmesg.
