The patch on #646456 prepares an NMU, which gregor herrmann was going to
sponsor, but then decided against when it didn't build on amd64. I tried
rebuilding with the same patch and it built, but some of the tests
failed (#662002) and I have no way to judge how significant that is, so
I didn't sponsor it either.

Great! Please consider starting by sponsoring/applying Mònica's
NMU (see the bugs for details), which now builds fine on amd64.

Bug#662001: singular: should this package be removed?

2012-03-03 Thread Tim Abbott
Hi Simon,

Bernhard Link has been organizing a group of folks to take over
maintaining this package.

Also, I should mention it is not primarily a library -- the main use case
for singular is a command-line repl for doing mathematical calculations;
the library version is only used by the sagemath software (not currently
in Debian).

So I'd recommend against removing the package at this time.

Bug#662001: singular: should this package be removed?

2012-03-03 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: singular
Version: 3-0-4-3.dfsg-3
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: proposed-removal

singular seems like a possible candidate for removal from Debian:

* library with no reverse dependencies
* no maintainer upload since 2009
* no maintainer response to an RC bug for several months
* assorted linking problems (see the patches from Mònica's attempted NMU)

If you don't think this package is needed any more, please send the
following commands to cont...@bugs.debian.org, replacing nn with this
bug's number:

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

Alternatively, please keep up with fixing it.
