Each of these sets is basically a xml file which can be downloaded from
the official homepage. In fact the flv.sh file isn't included in the
sources of version 3.0.0 and has been added later.

Thank you both. I'm ready to get this bug fixed.

I've uploaded the above version now, sorry for the delay.

 Hello Guido!

I'm still waiting for someone to review my package. So i'm glad that you
want to help. Please go ahead. Christoph Martin had sponsored
MediathekView in the past and he suggested that he intended to test the
package. That was three weeks ago. I guess he is busy at the moment.

There are three options and i'm not sure which one is the best.

   1. Uploading 2.6.1 to unstable and hoping that the release team will
unblock it for Testing. Then uploading 3.0.0 to experimental.

   2. Removing MV completely from wheezy and uploading 3.0.0 to

I'd go for this one. Everything besides 3.0 doesn't seem to work that

   3. Uploading 3.0.0 to unstable in the hope that it gets unblocked.

Option 3 is rather unlikely. I'm not sure whether version 2.6.1 is
something someone might use for the next three years. It's functional
but outdated. But perhaps it's better than nothing. So far

I just hat the time to do some testing with 3.0.0. The first problem I
had, is that medithekview wants to execute
/usr/share/mediathekview/bin/flv.sh but it is installed in
/usr/share/mediathekview/. So you either have to change
./src/mediathek/tool/GuiFunktionenProgramme.java or
./debian/mediathekview.install

Hello

I reply to Armin's release critical bug report and also cc'ing the
maintainer, past uploaders of mediathekview and Rhonda, who has offered
help and advice with sponsoring requests [1], in the hope that we all
can improve the current situation of mediathekview in Debian.

First of all i'm not the maintainer but i would like to contribute and
help with packaging.

I've done some research and i've compared the actual version of
mediathekview 3.0 with our current version in Debian. I have also opened
a thread at the upstream support forum to gather advice how to deal with
the situation. [2]

One forum member pointed me to another thread where the main developer
clearly stated that he does not intend to support two different versions
of mediathekview. [3] Note: German is required.

At the moment only version 3.0 supports a list with all available movies
while you can only use a manual method in 2.4 to retrieve a fraction of
the supported streams.

It is unlikely that upstream will implement a feature to support the new
lists of movies with the old 2.4 branch of mediathekview.

In 3.0 the GUI has considerably changed and a lot of functions under the
hood were rewritten and new features added. I think the delta is too big
to grant a freeze exception but that's my personal opinion.

All in all supporting version 2.4 in Wheezy would mean a lot of work for
the maintainer and would be most likely futile because 2.4 is outdated
and broken and won't be fixed by the upstream developers.

Therefore i also recommend to remove Mediathekview 2.4 from Wheezy.

I would like to work on Mediathekview 3.0 and reintroduce it in
Jessie/Sid. At the moment my package compiles with the help of the Ant
build system but it is not finished. Feedback and thoughts about
Mediathekview in Debian are much appreciated.

Kind regards
Markus Koschany

Bug#681680: mediathekview: finds only 1376 out of 57537 movies

2012-07-15 Thread Armin Haas
Package: mediathekview
Version: 2.4.0-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

mediathekview has 2 ways to update its list of available movies.

Normally it retrieves a file, which containes the list of all supported
tv-stations.
The user can also use the built-in functionality to gather the list of movies
directly off the tv-stations' websites.

Some time ago, the format of the update-file changed, so using the update-file
method, mediathekview lists a total of 0 movies as available.

The workaround, recommended by upstream on their site, is to use the direct
info gathering method. But apparently the format of the websites changed
enough that doing this yields a list with only 1376 movie entries. Many of the
supported tv-stations show up in the list as having no movies at all
available.
Using upstreams current version, which can work with the update-file yields a
list with 57537 movies. So the packaged version gives users access to less
than 3% of what is really available. These numbers are from 2012-07-13, but
during the past weeks I found them to be similar.

Please remove the packaged version from Testing, if it cannot be upgraded to
a working version before the release of Wheezy.

Cheers

Armin
