Hi,

First, please don't mail me directly, but always the bug, so that others can
also assist you. For now I have bounced your query to the bug, don't worry.

It doesn't depend on your CPU, but on the architecture of your Debian
installation, which you can see by running the following command:

dpkg --print-architecture

If that outputs "amd64", then you can install the above packages with the
following commands:

cd $(mktemp -d)
wget -r -l1 -nH --cut-dirs=3 -A *1.5.3-5+706888~attempt0_*.deb
http://alioth.debian.org/~odyx-guest/debian/wheezy/

Then, as root:
dpkg -i *1.5.3-5+706888~attempt0_*.deb
apt-get install -f

Cheers,
OdyX

2013-06-16 Thread NetCat

Hello,

Thanks for your light-speed response.

I have Intel Core 2 Duo Quad, which packages should I install from
http://alioth.debian.org/~odyx-guest/debian/wheezy/
and in which order?

Cheers,
Adrian.

Hi Julian and Luc again,

First, let me rise the severity of that bug, as failing to print in Wheezy is
a real problem.

The code spitting that error (from the cups-avahi.patch patch) isn't there
in CUPS 1.6 anymore as an updated patch has been integrated upstream for
the avahi support in CUPS. I'm hereby marking this as fixed in 1.6.2.
Please reopen if one of you can reproduce such a problem with cups 1.6.
(That means the bug is still affecting stable, and should be hunted there,
of course).

I just noted that the cups-avahi.patch was not Tim Waugh (RedHat)'s latest
possible version, so I cloned his repository [0] and massaged a proper debian
patch update out of it, this updated patch is attached.

I have now compiled cups 1.5.3-5 with this update in a stable chroot, and the
result is available from here:

	http://alioth.debian.org/~odyx-guest/debian/wheezy/

Can you try to install this package on your machine and report if that fixes
the printing for you?

TIA, cheers,

OdyX

Oh, you're right. I've still got 1.5.3-5, but hadn't noticed this
problem until now. It seems that it is not a show-stopper on my
system.

No, I don't. It's not available for testing yet.

BTW, I may not have internet access for the next week, so I may be
slow in replying

Do you both have cups-browsed installed and running ?

I have hit the same problem, as cups has just migrated to testing. My
error log (/var/log/cups/error_log) says:

E [16/Jun/2013:14:18:49 +0100] Failed to add Avahi entry for Samsung ML-1610 @
erdos: -8
E [16/Jun/2013:14:18:49 +0100] Failed to add Avahi entry for Samsung ML-1610 @
erdos: -8

Oh dear :-(

I have avahi-daemon installed and running:

erdos:~ # /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon status
Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon is running

Any suggestions, as I have no idea what is causing this :-(

Was avahi-daemon installed (it is "Recommended" by cups) and running?

Avahi is needed in a way or another for automated printers discovery and
bonjour-based printer queues.

Thanks in advance,

OdyX

Bug#706888: cups: Could not print to server after upgrade: Failed to add Avahi entry

2013-05-05 Thread Luc Castermans
Package: cups
Version: 1.5.3-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

After a normal upgrade of Wheezy I could not print anymore from a
CUPS client to the CUPS server. On the server I found below
entry in /var/log/cups/error_log

E [05/May/2013:08:28:43 +0200] Failed to add Avahi entry for HP LaserJet 1320 @
emael: -8
E [05/May/2013:08:28:43 +0200] Failed to update TXT record for HP LaserJet 1320
@ emael: -2
E [05/May/2013:08:28:43 +0200] Failed to add Avahi entry for HP LaserJet 1320 @
emael: -8

What I did to fix it?

Install avahi-discover on the client and run it as normal user.

This fixes the problem.
