Looks like wamerican was installed a few hours before dictionaries-common,

in the trigger handling does not properly handle this case of the word list
 being installed first.

Hi, Joey and Don,

Sorry for the delay, I am having little time lately. Finally had time to
look at this (and similar wamerican #683024 just merged).

It is not the trigger to blame, but a change I did in 2011-03-28 trying to
simplify options. I then forgot that wamerican could have been installed first
and then its postinst is not run when dictionaries-common is installed.

I am working in a fix. Expect a fixed package soon.

Thanks for your info

Ragards,

Bug#729185: failed to create /etc/dictionaries-common/words on install

2013-11-09 Thread Joey Hess

Package: dictionaries-common
Version: 1.20.3
Severity: normal

/usr/share/dict/words was a broken symlink since
/etc/dictionaries-common/words was never created.

I tried dpkg-reconfigure dictionaries-common; it let me choose
the american word list, but this did not cause the file to be created.

Finally, running select-default-wordlist did add the missing link.

Since I use etckeeper, I can see that I first
installed dictionaries-common, along with aspell, on September 3rd.

That apt run created only (relevantly):

 dictionaries-common/ispell-default |0
 emacs/site-start.d/50dictionaries-common.el| 40 +

I upgraded to 1.20.3 on Sep 20th. AFAICS, /etc/dictionaries-common/words
was never created on this system.

Looks like wamerican was installed a few hours before dictionaries-common,
during initial installation of this system. My guess is that something
in the trigger handling does not properly handle this case of the word list
being installed first.
