Bug#759590: mutt: Error in GnuTLS initialization: Failed to acquire random data.

2014-09-24 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Control: block 762103 by -1

Hi.

I see the same problem with the exim4-config package when installing
it using eatmydata. I believe the problem do not happen every time,
but often enough to be a problem. See
http://bugs.debian.org/762103 > for the details (for example the
strace) related to exim4-config.

Hello,

One way to get this error is to break /dev/*random, e.g. by not
having it mode 777. Is this perhaps the case?

Bug#759590: mutt: Error in GnuTLS initialization: Failed to acquire random data.

2014-08-28 Thread Bob Proulx
If I revert to mutt 1.5.23-1 then the error disappears. So it is
definitely related to the recent mutt upgrade. However:

  $ > /tmp/foo.html

  $ elinks /tmp/foo.html
  Error in GnuTLS initialization: Failed to acquire random data.
  INTERNAL ERROR at
/build/elinks-eKJ4d6/elinks-0.12~pre6/src/network/ssl/ssl.c:129: GNUTLS init
failed: Failed to acquire random data.
  INTERNAL ERROR at
/build/elinks-eKJ4d6/elinks-0.12~pre6/src/network/ssl/ssl.c:138: GNUTLS X509
credentials alloc failed: Internal error in memory allocation.
  Segmentation fault

  $ lynx /tmp/foo.html
  Error in GnuTLS initialization: Failed to acquire random data.

If there is a system problem then it arrived by doing a normal Sid
apt-get upgrade every day.

Me thinks this is deeper than mutt and will need to be reassigned.
Not sure where though.

None. An empty .muttrc produces that error message. I should have
included that bit of checking in the original report but neglected to
say that it does this with the stock package configuration only.

Neither is it something in /etc/Muttrc.d/gpg.rc nor in the
/etc/Muttrc.d/smime.rc files either, having moved them out of the way
the result is the same. I also purged mutt and installed it fresh
with the same result.

So do I, but it works for me (doing IMAPS against my server).
Can you post a minimal muttrc that triggers it for you?

Greets

Bug#759590: mutt: Error in GnuTLS initialization: Failed to acquire random data.

2014-08-28 Thread Bob Proulx
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.23-1.1
Severity: normal

After today's Sid upgrade from 1.5.23-1 to 1.5.23-1.1 mutt is now
emitting this message when starting.

  Error in GnuTLS initialization: Failed to acquire random data.

The changelog for 1.5.23-1.1 shows:

  * Rebuild against GnuTLS v3. Closes: #668816

Therefore I assume this is related.
