Hi

Can we please have an update of this bug report with actual versions?

Thanks,

We have a similar problem, and have tracked it to an issue with PAM. We're
using libpam-ldap here, and replacing the "@include common-session" line in
/etc/pam.d/xrdp-sesman with the content of /etc/pam.d/common-session, then
commenting out the "session optional pam_ldap.so" line fixes the problem.

If Xfce works in VNC with xrdp 0.6.1 and MATE doesn't, then this is not an xrdp
issue because xrdp has no notion of what is running in the VNC server - it's
just a plain bitmap image.

It might, however, by some chance be a sesman issue, although I do not really
know why.

Something about gnome-keyring comes up in my mind. There was something … Can
you remove the gnome-keyring module from PAM and try again, please?

Bug#836932: login to blank screen after upgrade to 0.9

2016-10-10 Thread Christian Pernegger
Hello again!

> So the problem is neither xrdp nor the X server.

I'll concede that testing might be horribly broken at the moment,
especially in the GTK3 department. But considering MATE, xfce4 and
LXDE all work for local logins, but under xrdp 0.9 MATE and LXDE give
an empty background and xrdp4 only works with some clients(!), xrdp
has to be at least a part of the problem.
My main gripe is that it doesn't behave very consistently. Sometimes
sesman starts, sometimes it doesn't. On a fresh boot (w/ sesman
running) I always get the behaviour above, but there were times (after
trying different users, clients, desktop environments, local/xrdp
logins), when it suddenly, magically started to work -- until the next
sleep or reboot. Even then, connecting to a running session from
another machine would not work. 0.9 also refuses to launch VNC
sessions or connect to existing ones. Too many different problems to
pin down the cause.

> Anything else special about this setup?

No. Plain vanilla stretch install, at least it was supposed to be.

>> * Neither the VNC options nor "console" work at all anymore.

The 0.6 setup was of course VNC based and I didn't uninstall them. The
x11vnc configured to attach to the local X server's still running
strong, xrdp just doesn't like it, it just disconnects after a
successful login (lightdm login, not xrdp).

>> * Going back to 0.6.1 doesn't help.
>
> Did you make sure to also recreate the old config files?

No, but I didn't have to do anything special to get basic operation
out of 0.6 either. FWIW, I've gotten 0.6 to work again. Looks like it
has to be xfce for now (I'd only tried MATE before), but I can live
with that.

> Anything non-default?

No, bog standard.

I'm sticking with 0.6 for now, but if you have any ideas or a version
with much better logging, I'm perfectly willing to test it one weekend
or other.

Cheers,
C.

So the problem is neither xrdp nor the X server.

Can you login to MATE with a local display manager with the same user?

I cannot reproduce the issue, neither on jessie nor on stretch (I actually do
haev a jessie box with xrdp 0.9 from backports where, in this very moment, 16
users are running active MATE sessions).

What you could do is attach x11vnc to the running X display at the point where
you see the session processes and the RDP screen shows only black. Does it
also only show a black screen?

Anything else special about this setup?

Do other Windows versions work? Lacking that, can you test both xfreerdp (from
freerdp-x11) and rdesktop? I'd suspect the first to work and the latter to
show the same effect. Can you reproduce that?

Well, did you install the relevant packages, like a VNC server?

Did you make sure to also recreate the old config files?

Another thing: What PAM modules do you have enabled in common-session?
Anything non-default?

Nik

Hello,

I really don't know what to tell you, I've no idea where to even start
debugging this ...

Yes, I get an X server process and lots of session related ones --
it's running, just not on my xrdp screen.
No, I hadn't read the new README.Debian, but I can't see how it's
relevant, as I'm using Linux + systemd and standard RDP security.

Current status:
* If the default session is set to xfce, Remmina 1.1.2 (Ubuntu) can
connect and reconnect normally. MATE (which I'd been using and would
like to use again) does not work. If the server machine is
suspended/resumed, xrdp breaks until the next reboot (black screen).
* The Windows 7 built-in client doesn't work at all, teal screen after
login no matter what I do.
* Neither the VNC options nor "console" work at all anymore.
* Going back to 0.6.1 doesn't help.

(And before you ask, I'd rather not have to re-install the whole box.
I'd sooner go back to a fixed number of manually launched VNCs.)

Cheers,
C.

Do you see any processes of the session spawning (look with ps)?

Do you see an X server process? If not, did you read README.Debian?

2016-09-07 Thread Christian Pernegger
Package: xrdp
Version: 0.9.0~20160601+git703fedd-3

Hi again,

so I've had the previous xrdp (0.6.1?) and vnc4server working
flawlessly for months but with vnc4server dropped from testing and the
X backend supposedly so much better than VNC I decided to take the
plunge and upgrade to 0.9. No joy.

I can connect and login fine, but then I'm dropped at an empty screen
where a MATE session should be. I thought, maybe it's my old config,
purged xrdp and xorgxrdp and reinstalled, so now it's complete stock
-- still nothing.

Graphical logins at the local console are fine.

Neither /var/log/xrdp*.log nor ~/.xsession-errors has anything that
looks relevant -- any ideas what to try or where to look?

Cheers,
C.
