That would work as well, especially if you have some hope left that pdktk upstream will resurrect it some day. There just needs to be an installable pdftk package to provide a clean upgrade path ... My plan for the upgrade path was to release pdftk 2.02-3 as an transition package that depends on pdftk-java. Currently, pdftk-java is the only working alternative, but maybe upstream or someone else finds another way to solve the GCJ issue... >From my perspective, providing the pdftk binary package in pdftk-java seems to be a bit misleading, since the upstream is different. (The pdftk binary itself is currently provided by update-alternatives in pdftk-java) What do you think, Andreas? Best wishes, Johann Felix -- Johann Felix Soden, joh...@debian.org, DD

(A Provides: pdftk does not create an upgrade path). That should make the old pdftk source package go away ... Andreas

The pdftk package in Debian Sid is currently not installable and will be removed, as the required GCJ packages were removed from Debian. Alternatives are in preparations, see [1]. Use meanwhile debian:stretch or debian:jessie where pdftk should be installable. Bug#901761: Not installable at amd64 because of libgcj17 dependency
Package: pdftk Version: 2.02-4+b2 I am using the Docker image debian:sid and I am executing "apt-get install pdftk". The output is The following packages have unmet dependencies: pdftk : Depends: libgcj17 (>= 5) but it is not installable E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I see at https://packages.debian.org/de/sid/pdftk that pdftk depends on libgcj17, which is only available at hurd-i386, kfreebsd-amd64, and kfreebsd-i386 (https://packages.debian.org/de/sid/libgcj17). Checking debian strech, I found that libgcj17 is available for amd64 (https://packages.debian.org/de/stretch/libgcj17). Does the build of pdftk be modified or should the team behind libgcj17 be contacted?
