Indeed, new releases are out and since 3.3.0 there is a new fixture
(caplog) which an increasing number of projects start to use, so
we would need an updated py.test to be able to package them (we run
tests at build time)

I didn't recognise a computer architecture in "-misc".
For "-arm", "-mips" and such I did recognise the arch.

I did see / read the "-misc" as short for 'miscellaneous'.
As a package with miscellaneous files for qemu-system.

There aren't that many packages which depend on qemu-system. Actually there's
just one, which is qemubuilder. This one can depend on particular qemu
architecture if needed, and suggest/recommend others, based on their
knowledge of how it is used most.

qemuctl depends on qemu, and as far as I can tell, is an old package which
hasn't been updated since 2011, and appears to be dead.  It can be made
to depend on particular qemu-system package which it uses, or just dropped
from Debian. just like qemu-launcher.

There are a few other packages which depend on qemu (2 or 3), and I guess
it is wrong, they actually need to depend on particular _part_ of qemu,
not _whole_ qemu.  For example, nova-compute-qemu (it definitely needs
some of qemu-system-*, I've no idea which one) and os-autoinst (I can't
say what it actually needs).

In all cases it is the other package's job to list actual dependencies,
because we on qemu side don't know anything about how these packages
use qemu.

Either way, I don't see why we should think what "most people" need.
The way you suggest to handle this is definitely wrong, since, for
example, on aarch64 they actually need qemu-system-arm most often,
not qemu-system-x86. And once again, the packages which uses qemu
are the ones to choose.

qemu-system package is historical. Once upon a time there was just
one package, qemu, which included everything. Now it is a transitional
package, split into qemu-system and qemu-user. And later on, qemu-system
has been split into several arch-specific packages, and qemu-system
become mostly transitional, just like qemu itself. No one actually
want to install "qemu" package, because it is quite rare to need
everything of it. No one actually want to install qemu-system either,
once again, because they only need one particular architecture, but
we don't really know which one. And I seriously thinking about dropping
qemu-system and qemu packages entirely.

So I think the whole point is a bit moot...

I am not a security expert (I only have a day-to-day, working knowledge of
security), so I don't really know enough to be able to disagree with your
assessment of the situation, but the upstream maintainers have a reasonably
good (and are famed) for being security-minded and/or crypto experts.

I am OK (not super happy, but OK) with the removal of the --upgrade option
of youtube-dl, *BUT* I think that removing it completely and giving the
users that try to invoke the command with that option something like "option
not recognized" is a poor user-experience.

We should, *IF* we remove the option, substitute it with an output saying
that in Debian (and other derived distributions) we have disabled that
option.  Not having this will make users confused, since it would deviate
from the behavior of upstream.

Speaking as a user (not as the maintainer) of youtube-dl, that's something
that I would expect from *any* Debian package: document conspicuously the
differences between the package that we have in Debian and what upstream
offers.

Ideally, we should propose something better for upstream, even if we don't
end up using it in Debian itself.

Yes, I have not yet taken the time to migrate things to salsa.debian.org. I
will do as soon as I get familiar with the needed changes.

That's on purpose/intentional, to ease backporting for people that don't
have a debhelper so recent.

Actually, the main functionality of the resulting program will not change
that much with a newer debhelper, which means that the change will be only a
formal change, AFAICS...

This problem has been communicated upstream and we reached the conclusion
that it is a problem with pandoc...

After reproducing this information leak for a while, it occurred to me to go
report it, and I see I'm not alone :)

Apparently there's a whole little cottage industry of ways people have been
trying to use to get this working, e.g.:

 * a xss-lock package that subscribes to Linux power events more
   natively
 * a pm-utils package which provides a hooking mechanism in
   /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/

The xscreensaver package should probably document some of these options,
provide examples, and add some package relationships to indicate what should
be done... laptops suspending isn't really a niche use case these days.

running PHP. As a reference a possible workaround could be the following:

systemctl disable phpsessionclean.timer
systemctl stop phpsessionclean.timer

Then fix the cron for operation without systemd in: /etc/cron.d/php

Hi,

Are you sure you are using the right command/package? The log shows
that it's trying to build the 195.xx series, which is deprecated.
340.xx works fine, just tested on Sid, both with module-assisant and
with dkms.

I absolutely agree with you that there should be documentation on how to solve 
this problem.

If you come up with a set of simple steps that solve it, please let me know and 
I will happily add it to the xscreensaver FAQ. The reason it's not there 
already is that I have no idea -- because, as you have discovered in your 
googling, the whole thing is a gigantic clusterfuck of competing and 
incompatible non-solutions.

If there were, hypothetically, some solution that worked on, say, all Debian 
systems, then it would be eminently sensible for the Debian-provided 
xscreensaver package to activate that solution by default. Hypothetically. If 
anyone actually knew how to do that.

It happens with the two printers I can test it with: a Kyocera MFP,
and a Konica bizhub C451.  The latter is interesting: if I try to print two
copies of a multi-page document and select saddle stitch as the
finishing option, I get two booklets, each with two copies of the
document.

Is there any way to capture what is sent to CUPS?

FF-ESR as well.

the DELAYED/15 queue. Please let me know if I should speed up or slow
down the upload.

Note that my upload also moves the current experimental package to
unstable. The 4.6.0 version didn't build for me when I tried dropping
the libgnome dependency.

git formatted patch attached to be applied with the other patch
attached to this bug.

Historical reasons, POSIX has only mandated "command -v" since 2008 and
Debian does not even require that /bin/sh supports it, since the Policy
Manual specifies SUSv3 aka POSIX.2001 as the baseline[1].  As a
consequence, the minimal posh shell does not support[2] "command -v"
(not that using posh as /bin/sh is actually supported in Debian).

See also bugs #747320[3] (talks about the "type" command, but mentions
"command -v" in the last comment) and #864615[4] (requests that Debian
should upgrade to SUSv4).

Hi!

I'd like to update dpkg in stretch. This includes several fixes for
documentation, regressions, misbheavior, minor security issues, and
a new arch definition so that DAK can accept packages using it. The
fixes have been in sid/buster for a while now.

Attached the git diff 1.18.24..next/1.18.x (excluding translation
updates). Also given that unfortunately this time around there are
several string changes, I might need to do a translation round before
the upload, if the changes get approved.

In any case make sure you document the origin of the example filese in
debian/README.source (may be you add your question also in this file).

Fun fact: the latter method I found is already obsolete... the systemd way
is to put something in /lib/systemd/system-sleep/, yet the systemd-sleep
manual page says:

   Note that scripts or binaries dropped in /lib/systemd/system-sleep/ are
   intended for local use only and should be considered hacks. If
   applications want to be notified of system suspend/hibernation and
   resume, there are much nicer interfaces available.

It proceeds not to actually mention any one of those nicer interfaces.

Note that there will definitely be no "fix" within FFmpeg, simply
because the FFmpeg developers do not believe that there is a bug that
can be fixed.
If Debian believes there is an issue, it can be fixed quickly: Just
add --disable-asm to the configure line. So definitely no need to
"forward" anything. If you decide to not "fix" the issue, please close
the bug reports (again).

Regarding the claim that "it's worth losing 15% of performance for security":
I (strongly) believe it is worth losing 90% of performance for an
actual security issue, so I am not sure I understand the argument. But
I would also suggest you provide some tests to allow us to reproduce
the numbers if you believe they are relevant. (Both "15%" and "lack of
registers problem" are mostly wrong or not the point.)

A screen lock tool wants to bring up the screen lock right before
suspend, and delay the suspend until that's complete. Applications which
want to make use of the inhibition logic shall take an inhibitor lock
via the logind D-Bus API.

It's a pure packaging issue.

Yes, because it was put into the "oldlibs" section, probably by
accident.

According to the changelog, tor-arm has been made a transitional
package, but stayed in section "comm" (IMHO should be rather "net",
btw.) while the new package nyx has been put into the section
"oldlibs" instead.

So the "Section: oldlibs" header probably just has been placed into
the wrong binary stanza.

Hi Christoph,

Please remember that mails to n...@bugs.debian.org aren't forwarded to
the bug submitter. I saw your message only because I checked the BTS.

fizmo-sdl didn't crash when built from the git repos.

I investigated a bit further and discovered that the Debian package
crashed because it couldn't load NotoMono-Regular.ttf. And indeed that
file didn't exist. I had the fonts-noto package installed but not
fonts-noto-mono. Looks like that package needs to be added as a
libpixelif-common dependency.

I'm completely locked out of my modules.

   * What led up to the situation?
   Upgrade from 3.2.10-10 (probably) to 4.1.0-1 when pulling in buster.
   However, I don't think it is upgrade-dependent.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   I tried to list my modules with "module avail"

   * What was the outcome of this action?
   No output at all. No module is found.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
   A list of at least the default modules provided by the package

I tried to track the bug. The script /usr/lib/modulecmd.tcl is setting 
MODULESHOME to /usr and tries to read /usr/init/.modulespath and 
usr/init/modulerc in several places. However, these files are installed 
to /usr/share/modules/init.

Checking the upstream-repository, it seems that PREFIX somehow does not
match the installation directory.

Yes, and it should depend on blktrace (on non-systemd init) to stop it 
complain about:

I'm not able to reproduce this.  Is this only a problem with specific
documents?  Or certain printer options?

Thats strange. I've tried today in Docker container and then in my 
physical installation on a laptop and the result of both installations 
is the same - the errors in a logfile about nonexistent properties 
indicating problem with jss loading.

That's the good news.

The bad news?

I tested debian's version 17.12.1-1 and it was
still broken.

I worked around it again by changing 

/usr/share/kdenlive/export/profiles.xml

from

   acodec=vorbis

to

   acodec=libvorbis

hm, this sounds like it might be a bug in the grsec headers package to
me, since wireguard doesn't know anything about
latent_entropy_plugin.so.

Could you try reproducing this against sid, rather than
stretch-backports?

If this is really a wireguard bug, feel free to reasssign it back to
wireguard-dkms with a clearer explanation.

Hi,

When reassigning bugs, please provide a bit of context in the reassign mail,
or the only thing we have is the above, and we need to dig the information
ourselves.

In any case, this is know as bug #820464. linux-grsec doesn't support building
external modules at the moment (and to be honest, it's not really sure at that
point if it will ever).

Noriu Jus informuoti apie šių metų pasikeitimą dėl atnaujintos visos Lietuvos 
įmonių bazės 2018 metų sausio vidurio.
Visi juridiniai asmenys pateikti bazėje yra veikiantys, realiai vykdantys 
veiklą, turintys įdarbintų darbuotojų. Duomenys pagal Sodrą, Registrų centrą.
 
Bazėje nurodoma ir apyvarta, darbuotojų atlyginimai, darbuotojų skaičius, 
transporto skaičius ir daug kitų duomenų, kuriuos matysite pavyzdyje.
 
Duomenis galima filtruoti pagal veiklas, miestus ir kitus duomenis.
 
 
Šią bazę verta turėti visoms įmonėms. Pateiksiu priežastis:
 
1) Kontaktai pateikti bazėje direktorių ir kitų atsakingų asmenų, didelė 
tikimybė Jums surasti naujų klientų, partnerių, tiekėjų, kai tiesiogiai 
bendrausite su direktoriais, komercijos vadovais.
 
2) Konkurentų analizavimas, tiekėjų atsirinkimas pagal Jums reikalingus 
kriterijus, galite atsifiltruoti pagal įmonės dydį, bazėje nurodoma kiek įmonės 
skolingos Sodrai.
 
3) Lengva, greita ir patogu dirbti su šia baze, elektroninius pašto adresus 
galite importuoti į elektroninių laiškų siuntimo programas ar sistemas iš kurių 
siunčiate elektroninius laiškus.

Note that following the move to salsa, the homepage of the Debian Science
Policy has changed, and is now:

 https://science-team.pages.debian.net/policy/

Unfortunately there seems to be an SSL certificate issue with this URL.

I have setup a redirection so that the old address of the policy redirects to
the new.

Hello,
I am another user bitten by this bug.
I have a box with basically the same CPU as the bug report submitter
(Gianluigi).

Are you saying that I should deep six my Geode box or stop upgrading
the Debian testing system installed on it?
That would be really sad...

It seems to me that the upstream bug report has patches ready to be
accepted (at least, they look good to H.J. Lu, which I assume to be one
of the upstream developers).
Can these patches be applied to the Debian package?

Moreover, in the past the Linux kernel has had issues with this CPU,
but the support has been re-enabled after a while.
Hence, I did not get the impression that the days of Debian support for
AMD Geode CPUs were already over.

Could you please clarify?

I'm sorry this was a frustrated triage, I can immagine.

Looking today through the kernel archive, I noticed an answer from
Paolo Bonzini, <62aa6b81-5456-07dc-cf64-e46747d3a...@redhat.com>,
claiming this is fixed by

which is in 4.15-rc8, and thus confirming that you did not had the
issue anymore in 4.15.

Hi,

Whilst working on the Reproducible Builds effort [0], we noticed
that pydispatcher could not be built reproducibly.

This is because the docs contain absolute build paths. A hacky
patch is attached; pydoc seems so ancient/weird it seems a little
pointless to fix itself..
