Bug#480534: installing 0.8-1 on amd64 did break something: reinstalling 0.7-2 does not make it work while it previously did
So after testing everything was fine on my ia32 laptop, I tried to debug a bit more on amd64 arch. I first tried to reproduce the original problem (causing crash on icedove after upgrade) So I purged the 0.8 version, resintalled the previously working 0.7-2 version. Surprise, the extension was not seen/loaded. Suspected my account. Created a brand new one, and run icedove. It found only the openpgp extension as it did on my own account. = help. Bug#489349: installing kde4 will remove digikam because of dependencies on libkipi0 and kipi-plugins

However it is still not recommended for production use, so won't be releasing early, as based on the release plan 0.10.0 beta 1 doesn't release until 6 July anyway, so we aren't missing out. Bug#490212: hplip: wrong placing of hp-systray icons on kde4

If so, it looks like the best way to fix your problem is to change: force_qt4 = False to force_qt4 = True at line 63 of /usr/share/hplip/systray.py... ...then keep doing so every upgrade until HPLIP is built against PyQT4. If this was more than a minor problem I would suggest building HPLIP against PyQT4, patching the systray.py code, and placing the result in Experimental where it can be fetched by anyone trying out KDE4. I consider it minr becase hlpip works, and the icon while located at the left upper side of the screen is functionnal. Can live with that up to until kde4 becomes default I hope somewhere at the end of this year... Bug#488277: I have exactly the same problem
After updating to the new xserver on my nc6000 HP LAPTOP, the screen connected on the docking station that can only do 1280x1024 is forced at the flat panel resolution that is actually 1400x1050 meaning I see only part of the screen on my external LCD monitor. If I force to change the resolution to 1280x1024 using xrandr, it just kill the external display. Restoring the initial 1400x1050 does not restore the video on the external dipslay. To restore it I have to call xrandr --auto and then Im back to 1400x1050. Of course, I did not change my xorg.conf at the beginning. Googling a little bit I have added the new Randr 1.2 option to attach a specific monitor to a specific video output (external LCD-VGA-0, Flat Panel to LDVS). They are correctly associated now, but it did not change the behavior. So far the only trick I have found to support the external screen is to explicitly shut down the flat panel using xrandr and then to change the resolution manually to 1280x1024. I have put a docked script in my ~/bin that automates it. Looking at the Xorg.0.log, I have no error either. Will post my xorg.conf and my Xorg.0.log monday when I'll be back to work. -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#488277: I have exactly the same problem
Alex, Julien First thanks for your help. The modes in your screen section apply to all outputs. The ones in your monitor sections only apply to the specific monitor in question. I removed the mode lines from the screen sections. I did not add them back to the monitor section as they are correctly probed by the driver. Result is no change. The display on the external lcd is only a portion of the whole 1400x1050 resolution. Explicitly setting the resolution of the LCD, does not change anything. I still have to resort to the script docked to have a correct display. If you have any other suggestion, please tell me I will give it a try. NB: I would prefer to have a single configuration file for both config. Using xrandr or a script like today is ok. With kde4, krandrtray will enable to to this graphically. -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

With kde4, krandrtray will enable to to this graphically. you'll need to specify a preferred mode per-output if you don't want to use the default preferred modes for each monitor: http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12 Alex xrandr --auto xrandr -q Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1400 x 1050, maximum 1600 x 1200 VGA-0 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm 1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 59.9 60.0* 1600x1024 60.0 1400x1050 60.0 1440x900 60.2 1280x960 60.0 59.9 1280x800 60.0 1152x864 75.0 74.8 69.8 1280x768 60.0 1024x768 75.1 75.0 70.1 60.0 832x62474.6 800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x48075.0 72.8 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0 59.9 720x40070.1 DVI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)x 1024) LVDS connected 1400x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 1400x1050 60.0*+ 1280x800 60.0 1280x768 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 640x48059.9 S-video disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) If I now read the output of xrandr correctly, the preferred mode is correct for both monitor (maximum resolution of each monitor) just I do not want the number of pixel displayed on my LCD being a 1280x1024 windows of a 1400x1050 output but because then I cannot seen the whole picture. Bug#488277: I have exactly the same problem
Alex Deucher wrote: what modes do you want on each head? the native modes of each head are different. you can either have both heads at 1280x1024 or some other resolution common to both heads or have them at different modes. The mode is one thing, the virtual size of the desktop is another. The portion of the virtual size you see on your smallest resolution monitor is a third thing. Here, *if I understand correctly*, the virtual size is the biggest one so 1400x1050. Therefore, on the external lcd screen, when cloned, I see only part (1280x1024) exactly of the 1400x1050 display or is it one of the ratio of 1280/1400 or 1024/1050. That is what annoys me because by default, it crop the kde taskar (automatic hide) or the top of the windows. Both case are annoying. In previous version it happened to but a least moving the mouse I could access all the part of the full virtual screen. Here I can no more but many is it due to something else. So my question is is it normal to see only portion of the virtual screen? I do not think so but maybe it is because I have no clue about possible automatic scaling between heads. Sure 1400/1050 and 1280/1024 ratio differ and this is not pure scaling... What I would like is to do is detecting the pc is docked and by default call my script. I guess I can automate it using xrandr so that when x is started, if there is a VGA monior I run my docked script which is perfectly fine. Then if I put something like Option PreferredMode 1280x1024_60.00 on my LVDS panel, then I will have to use xrandr to swicth manually when undocking. If you laptop produces acpi dock events, you can run an script with xrandr when the event comes in. It does not but maybe opening the lid does as closing it call xlock. Will check. Side question: why are the xrandr displayed mode wrong ?(no 1600 x1024 for the VGA-0, and 1280x1024 is possible on the LVDS). From memory it does not reflect what the drivers correctly found probing the displays (see my previous Xorg.0.log) The laptop panel only one mode, it's native one: 1400x1050. We add the other smaller modes via the panel scaler to enable uses to use non-native modes on their panels. OK. What I do not understand is why the 1280x1024 mode disappear i the output when it appears when undocked? As for the VGA port, the xserver adds the common server modes that fit into the sync ranges provided by the edid ffrom your monitor. I'd argue that we should only add the modes in the edid, but CRT uses tend to like to use various other strange modes. This means that for many laptop owner in medium sized companies, where external LCD are bigger but with lower resolution the default behavior (meaning without preferred mode settings) is barelly unacceptable and there is no way to have a single xorg.conf file that work correctly for docked and undocked case (I can limit the LVDS resolution by default in xorg.conf but will then have to manually change it when undocking or use acpi events). As I can use xrandr to dynamically reprogram things without restarting X, this is acceptable but is a change compared to previous behavior. But anyways, no matter which binary it is, documenting it in a README file that you might want to add setuid root (with dpkg-statoverride) to that specific file if you use NIS will be the fix. Fair enough. But someone else may reopen the bug then. Automating nis discovery would be more wyse and evident for you superman ;-) As it works without problems in non-nis-environments, there is no reason to make it setuid root for all users. I disagree. In addition, you should probably read kcheckpass man page before saying it was not intended to be setuid root: KCheckPass is KDE's authentication program. It is meant to be used by any software in need of user authentication, most notably screensavers. It enhances security be the following means: - It's only a small program, which is hopefully simple enough to allow it to be SUID root. Setting it to SUID root is necessary on Shadow Password systems. - No other program in need of user authentication, must be SUID root. - It provides a single implementation to check passwords. So one only must take a closer look at KCheckPass to ensure password security. It's much easier for programs using KCheckPass to preserve security. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

However, there are two issues standing in the way of a simple rebuild: - xutils-dev is currently broken; bug #362886, should be fixed tomorrow - xprint itself fails to build against Xorg 7.0 due to bug #360446; I just talked to the maintainer, and he says he's preparing a new upstream version of xprint. At that point, it probably doesn't need xutils-dev anyway. Thanks for the info. I can wait anyway. It is just because the transition has been quite painfull that I record the problem I hit (if not alreday reported). BTW = I have been hunting font cache problem a lot on two installations. I had to manually link /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 to their equivaalent in /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1 whithout managing to find what cache or config file was containing the wrong path. Bug#289715: Same already fixed bugs are back rendering Impress almost unusable
Chris Halls wrote: Looking at the stack trace, this is the same crash as reported in 289715 so I'm merging the bug. Looking at the code, OOo is dealing with font lists which are likely to be different on your machine to mine, which may be why I can't reproduce this here. Please can you do the same as I asked the submitter of #284096 to do: --- Please download this file: http://people.debian.org/~halls/openoffice/test/libsvt645li.so.bz2 It is a version of the library that crashes with debugging symbols included. bunzip the file and copy into /usr/lib/openoffice/program, replacing the file that is there from the package. Then, reproduce the crash. When the crash dialog comes up, do not click it away but instead execute this from the command line (make sure you have gdb installed) echo thread apply all bt gdb.script gdb -p $(pgrep -u $USER soffice.bin| head -1) gdb.script | tee oo.log Please send oo.log to the bug report. As already reported be me and others, the crash while selecting the second item of the menu (#284096) has suddently vanished while doing an upgrade of _apparently_ unrelated libraries. I recorded it in bug (#284096) But there is still some bugs happening when doing this, as suddenly, after selectiong the second item on menu, some color for text on the master slide permanently change on display (not the document itself because if I close and relaod color is restored ??? The single word color selection (#289715) is still broken for me. I suggest you insist on someone still having the bug. I would be glad to downgrade a library to reproduce it but I have no clue of what changed to make the bug disappear. Annoying because as stated a bug that disappear may reappear. For me it something like a wrong pointer that corrupt something unrelated that depend on libraries size for final placement... Anyway I would suggest to not merge the two bugs as one is a crash and another is a wrong behavior. -- __ / ` Eric Valette /-- __ o _. 6 rue Paul Le Flem (___, / (_(_(__ 35740 Pace Tel: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 Fax: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Chris, I would also like to thank you for taking the time for chasing this bug. Indeed it seems finally to have something with printing as initially suggested (or cups server support at least). If I understand correctly, you're saying that this problem occurs only when using your local kernel which does not have PCMCIA enabled. If it works with the official Debian kernel packages, then there's no reason this should be grave. Correct me if I've misunderstood. How many people use src packages with the official Debian kernel binary packages where the binary is available? Modestas Vainius wrote: forwarded 473271 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147342 thanks 2008 m. March 29 d., Saturday, Eric Valette rašė: see upstream bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147342. Could you rebuild with the patch attached. The patch does not look good to me. What if locale is not UTF8? Anyway, I'm not going to do any amarok upload until 1.4.8-2 reaches testing which may take up to two weeks or even more. It would be great if you somehow could test if the patch works with non-UTF8 locales. My locales are not UTF8 but french. This is just that we should do correct conversion with non latin1 character in song titles title like éèç that are very common in french songs. Put such a character in a song title and try to transfer it on a MTP device. UTF8 is usually a much better alternative than hardcoded latin1. The traget device has no such locales thing. locale [EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_CTYPE=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_NUMERIC=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_TIME=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_COLLATE=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_MONETARY=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_MESSAGES=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_PAPER=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_NAME=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_ADDRESS=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_TELEPHONE=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_MEASUREMENT=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_IDENTIFICATION=[EMAIL PROTECTED] LC_ALL= -- eric
