Bug#295007: NMU patch

2005-02-19 Thread Brian Nelson
Here's my NMU patch for the aspell-no rebuild... Your
aspell-no.postinst script scared and confused me. Hopefully I didn't
screw it up... What's wrong with just relying on LANG/LC_MESSAGES
anyway?

Bug#295877: gauche-gtk: FTBFS: /bin/sh: m: command not found

2005-02-19 Thread NIIBE Yutaka
Your package is failing to build on all arches. Here is an
extract from the build log:
cd src; /usr/bin/make install
make[2]: Entering directory `/build/buildd/gauche-gtk-0.4.1/src'
m 444 -T
/build/buildd/gauche-gtk-0.4.1/debian/gauche-gtk`/usr/bin/gauche-
config --sysincdir`
/bin/sh: m: command not found
make[2]: [install] Error 127 (ignored)
Thanks for the report.
It is because gauche-gtk has build dependency to gauche (= 0.8.3).
I forgot to add the build dependency in debian/control file, and newer
gauche has
not yet been uploaded (for unknown reason for me).

I've asked one of gauche maintainers (Takeshi YAEGASHI) to upload new
gauche-gtk
package again (with correct buld dependency) after newer gauche upload.

So, once newer gauche will be available on buildd, this failure will be
solved.

Just FYI, newer gauche is available at:
deb http://people.debian.org/~yaegashi/gauche/sid ./
deb-src http://people.debian.org/~yaegashi/gauche/sid ./

Package: beecrypt
Version: 2.2.0-pre1-4
Severity: serious

There was an error while trying to autobuild your package:

 Automatic build of beecrypt_2.2.0-pre1-4 on remake by sbuild/mipsel 1.170.5
 Build started at 20050215-1526

The version of libtool used to build this source package is too old to
correctly support shared libraries for the Debian mips and mipsel
architectures. Debian versions 1.5-2 and 1.4.2-7 and higher correctly
support them. You need to update all of the libtool related files by
running the following on your source tree:

autoreconf --force

You may need to use the --install option as well. You can also try the
individual commands needed yourself:

libtoolize --force --copy
aclocal
autoheader
automake -a
autoconf

autoheader may not be needed, and you may need to use versioned binaries
(autoconf2.13, automake-1.{4,6,7}, aclocal-1.{4,6,7}, etc)

The correct 'configure' script will have output that looks like this:
linux*)
  lt_cv_deplibs_check_method=pass_all
  ;;

Older versions of libtool used a file_magic check for the pattern
file_magic ELF [0-9][0-9]*-bit [LM]SB (shared object|dynamic lib )

The output of file(1) on a shared library on MIPS does not match this
regular expression, however. Earlier versions of file had been
modified to match this regular expression, but the latest version uses
the same output as upstream once again. The file check often causes
problems, and results on a build-dep on file that you might not
otherwise be aware of. The new method doesn't need file(1) at all,
and is far less fragile, so it is best to upgrade the configure script
with proper mips support.

Bug#295971: jpilot: Hidden records can be viewed/modified without password

2005-02-19 Thread Chris Howie
Package: jpilot
Version: 0.99.7-0.99.8-pre7-1
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole

In the main jpilot window, if the padlock button is pressed while
private records are hidden or masked, and the cancel button is pressed
(or the dialog is closed by the window manager) then private records
will be unhidden. This may need to be done more than once, but it will
eventually happen.

This problem does not affect the Show Private Records menu item.

   IIUC, this means that you manually removed /etc/init.d/inetd.real
   right ?

No. I was using inetutils-inetd, which provides netkit-inetd and installs
in /etc/init.d/inetutils-inetd.

This could have caused the problem. It is a separate bug, however. I can't
give more details on this one currently and am more concerned about the former
(failure in postrm) which is release-critical.

I assume this is a bug in some other package.

convinced that it is.

Ok, i can reproduce it here too, unfortunately i forgot to test the
patch for #294041 before uploading vdr 1.2.6-7, removing the patch
should fix the problem, i will upload a fixed package in a few
minutes. I will have to investigate the patch for #294041 before it
can be added again.

Package: dcgui-qt
Version: 0.3.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrading some xml packages today (as a normal sarge upgrade), dcgui-qt
stopped working. This means, no config file is read, no icons are shown
in the application (in fact they are replaced by a ghost icon, also the
background of the splash screen). If you delete the ~/.dc folder in order to
let dcgui
create new config files, it works for this session. After closing
dcgui-qt and restarting it, the problem returns.

The Output of dcgui-qt is (also while creating new config files):

CXml::xml_UTF8Toisolat1 error 4
CXml::xml_UTF8Toisolat1 error 3
CXml::xml_UTF8Toisolat1 error 1
CXml::xml_UTF8Toisolat1 error 5
(each of them several times)

Package: sympa
Vulnerability  : buffer overflow
Problem-Type   : local
Debian-specific: no
CVE ID : CAN-2005-0073

Erik Sj=F6lund discovered that a support script of sympa, a mailing list
manager, is running setuid sympa and vulnerable to a buffer overflow.
This could potentially lead to the execution of arbitrary code under
the sympa user id.

For the stable distribution (woody) this problem has been fixed in
version 3.3.3-3woody2.

For the unstable distribution (sid) this problem will be fixed soon.

We recommend that you upgrade your sympa package.

Hi,

The new version of config.guess and config.sub you're using are
rather out of date, they're from 1999. Previous version of the
package just continued working after it complained that it
didn't know the arch but now with the new autoconf version it
just fails.

I attached a patch with gets the latest version from the
autotools-dev package at build time, so it should always have a
version for the arch it's building on.

Kurt

Bug#296029: perlpanel: loops looking for icons

2005-02-19 Thread Michal Politowski
Package: perlpanel
Version: 1:0.9.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Perlpanel just installed, with default configuration, when run loops
using the whole CPU.
I don't really know Perl but from a quick session with the perl debugger
it looks like
my $info = $self-{icon_theme}-lookup_icon(lc($icon), 48, 'force-svg');
in PerlPanel::lookup_icon always fails to return anything useful
and the program descends into infinite recursion looking for
a 'perlpanel-applet-missing' icon.

Hi Chris,

as a follow-up to 295407 which you managed to fix in a whirl-wind
(kudos!), I'd like to say that reportbug still includes sensitive
information in a default report against reportbug (see the XXX below).
There might be other things it includes from .reportbugrc which are not
really meant to be stored in a publicly accessible BTS.

i already filled a report for a similar problems against

Maybe it is supposed to be fixed by an upcoming new version of
doodle, conflicting with older versions of those libs. in this
case please close those reports.

 Perlpanel just installed, with default configuration, when run loops

 I don't really know Perl but from a quick session with the perl debugger
 it looks like
 my $info = $self-{icon_theme}-lookup_icon(lc($icon), 48, 'force-svg');
 in PerlPanel::lookup_icon always fails to return anything useful
 and the program descends into infinite recursion looking for
 a 'perlpanel-applet-missing' icon.

I could not reproduce this in a clean chroot. As other new users haven't
experienced this problem, i'm downgrading the severity to important (for
now).

I see where this could end up in a loop, but perlpanel should find
perlpanel-applet-missing in all cases (as this in the package
itself).

I'm not sure where to start to debug this. Could you send me the output
of find /usr/share/icons/ and your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 (if you have one)?

Bug#296066: source tarball includes sourceless video.x

2005-02-19 Thread Joshua Kwan
Package: pearpc
Version: 0.3.1-4.1
Severity: serious

Hello,

pearpc_0.3.1.orig.tar.gz contains the video.x file necessary for running
Mac OS X. You noted in the default ppc.conf that indeed the package
should not ship video.x because it lacks source, and in README.Debian
that it could be obtained from upstream PearPC source or MOL source.
Regardless, it still exists in the orig tarball.

Since you have gone to great pains to detail where to obtain video.x due
to it not being shipped in the package, it's probably a good idea to
regenerate a new orig tarball that does not contain video.x and upload
that.

Thanks
Josh

In fact, the problem was neither with exim nor logrotate (the exim 3
packages don't use logrotate, fwiw).

The utility that broke was savelog, which is part of the debianutils
package. An updated debianutils package (2.13.0) was uploaded on the
18th and should now be available from whichever Debian mirror you're
using.

Reassigning the report to debianutils, merging with the existing report,
and closing.

Hi,

about a week ago I took the plunge and upgraded one of my machines from
Woody to Sarge. Apart from the official packages I also had some
packages from backports or compiled from source. After replacing woody
in sources.list with sarge, I did an apt-get upgdate and after that an
apt-get dist-upgrade. As expected quite a number of packages were
scheduled for being upgraded. What was a bit unexpected was that there
were also a large number of packages scheduled for removal. I aborted
to make a backup of /etc/ and to direct the output of apt-get into a
file so that I would be able to install later on the packages that had
been removed. This way, I thought, everything would go smoothly.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. The upgrade ended half-way
through telling me that there was an undefined symbol Perl_gthr_key_ptr.
Going from there I found out with Google's help that there had
previously been similar bugs classified when dist-upgrading from woody
to sarge (278417, 278495 and 279232, possibly others, apparently there
is no way search to search for a string in bug reports present in the
BTS system). These were classified as RC.

Apparently the abortion of the upgrade is due to the fact that perl is
in an inconsistent state out of which the system cannot free itself.
And indeed 'dpkg -l perl*|grep ^i' tells me that perl, perl-modules and
perl-suid are version 5.8.4 -5, installed but unconfigured (iU) and that
perl-base is 5.6.1-8.8 (ii), perl-t k is 800.025-2 (iU) and perlmagick
is 5.4.4.5-1woody (ii). As advised on #debian, I tried via aptitude if
that was able to fix the mess, but quickly found out that it would most
likely only make matters worse. Thus I backed off and have not touched
the system since.

I have the following information still on file and can make it available
on request. I hope you understand that I do not include it yet in this
bug report for reasons of privacy and so as not to flood the BTS.

 - tar file of /etc (and /home) before the upgrade
   pre-upgrade /var I have unfortunately no copy of
 - output of apt-get on what packages to install and which to remove
 - output of dpkg -l right after the failed upgrade
 - and of course the system itself in its current state

My assumption is that from this it should be possible to somehow
reconstruct what packages were installed at the time I tried the upgrade
and thus analyze what triggered this failure.

Best regards

Rolf Leggewie

Bug#294717: gpsbabel build problems: at least partly due to rounding errors

2005-02-19 Thread Lars Wirzenius
I've had a look at the build problems for gpsbabel. It builds fine on
i386, but make check fails on many other architectures. A typical
failure is this:

/usr/bin/make check
make[1]: Entering directory `/build/buildd/gpsbabel-1.2.4'
./testo
51c51
 B0421143040679S15036423EA00
---
 B0421143040678S15036423EA00
ERROR comparing /tmp/gpsbabel.21922/igc_sed.out reference/igc1_igc.out

Note that there is a single character difference, the digit before the
S in the middle is either a 9 or an 8. That string is produced by
igc.c, function latlon2str. Isolating the problematic input case I have
produced the following test program:

#include stdio.h
#include math.h
int main(void)
{
double x = -30.677975;
unsigned char c = fabs(x);

printf(x = %.15f\n, x);
printf(fabs(x) = %.15f\n, fabs(x));
printf(c = %u\n, c);
printf(fabs(x) - c = %.15f\n, fabs(x) - c);
printf((fabs(x) - c) * 6 = %.15f\n, (fabs(x) - c) * 6);
printf((fabs(x) - c) * 6 + 0.5 = %.15f\n,
(fabs(x) - c) * 6 + 0.5);
printf((unsigned) ((fabs(x) - c) * 6 + 0.5) = %u\n,
(unsigned) ((fabs(x) - c) * 6 + 0.5));

return 0;
}

This gives different results on i386 (my laptop) and hppa (paer.debian.org,
unstable chroot). Here is the output on hppa:

x = -30.6779750
fabs(x) = 30.6779750
c = 30
fabs(x) - c = 0.6779750
(fabs(x) - c) * 6 = 40678.500
(fabs(x) - c) * 6 + 0.5 = 40679.000
(unsigned) ((fabs(x) - c) * 6 + 0.5) = 40679

The output on i386 is identical except for the last line, which prints out
40678 as the result. I do not understand why it does that.

I suspect the other errors are also due to similar problems. Perhaps
someone who understands floating point semantics and their differences
between platforms could take a look?

Bug#296087: IMPORTANT: Microsoft EULA is NON-FREE and give MS specific rights!!

2005-02-19 Thread John D. Hendrickson
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.1-3
Severity: grave

Hello,

This is a SEVERE thing. I installed Debian/Sarge's version 1.1.1 of
openoffice.

While doing backups I found:

/home/xxx/.openoffice/1.1.1/THIRDPARTYLICENSEREADME.html

which contains the full Microsoft EULA: (see clip below)

As the license itself says: it is IMPORTANT. Please recall what
IMPORTING something to ones conscience mind means.

And I don't mind saying I'm angry that some yoohoo slipped that damned
license on my system. However: I do have a rights to use it. I'm
licensed to use a MS product meantioned and I paid for my copy of Solaris
and StarOffice.

No. My concern is the harm that can come to Debian - which is the
largest and best compilation of truely clean of license linux.

///
IF YOU AREN'T YET MAKING PHONE CALLS:

I don't know if you europeans understand what that license means
in U.S. language: it means they have rights to access all of your
personal work on your computer systems and have your ass in any courtroom
situation simply because their libraries are on your system - even if
you infact didn't know they were there (because you negleged to look for
the license).

If any codes of Microsoft (including fonts or save formats) that the license
referers to are in any part of any of your work: it is not your work ! until
such time as you remove Microsoft's binaries (without looking at them, of
course).

Infact. Using Microsoft software you have no right to copyright or
share the entirety of your work UNTIL IT IS PRINTED. That is, until it
contains no Microsoft binaries of any form.

And of COURSE: if you don't have license to use one of the meantioned
products: they can sue you.

And of COURSE: they can sue you for distributing anything containing the
license indescriminantly.

That is in fact what that license says specifically. That is how it
would be treated.

The President is from Texas (so gov workers now get Dell laptops). No
coincidence: beleive me. Microsoft has their own judges and does an
excellent job of lobbying our Congress.

I feel quite confident that the double talk allowed in a case would be
immense and favorative of Microsoft: If you don't know what double talk
is and how it effects the reality of purpose you had best not even think of
having a copy of the MS EULA anywhere on your HD.

///
IF YOU AREN'T YET MAKING PHONE CALLS:

Did you read that news article in the Washington Post about Sony raiding
Microsoft's Japan Headquarters? Do you know why? Its all in the EULA.

Read it again and again until the finality and the wideness sinks in.

I keep thinking of Lindows. The Linux for compatibility Windows.
Forgive and forget, he liked to say. He liked to think the days of war
between microsoft and linux were over. I've know that company at the
assembler level since DOS. The war was allways there. Its still here
and bigger than ever. Microsoft is cheating more than ever: I've read
(or reviewed) most of their Developer's kit (included all but Xp).

When I saw Microsoft suing Lindows I laughed. I knew two years before it
happened. And if you didn't? You had best open your eyes:

Microsoft is a city in the state of Washington which has (pays) its own
U.S. judges. They are sprawling and have a lust for riches. Their is
no sentiment which will calm their push toward monopoly, because it in
part is the primal instinct to breed if it means ruining other cities - and
this instinct is encouraged there in that evil city. And if you think
those bugs aren't their so they can poke into your government's offices:
your just loosers, so why send your family jewels to Redmond Washington now
while the contribution is still appreciable?

All you have to do is read phorums that Microsoft users from the Seattle
/ Redmond area have left on the internet to see that they seek to
actively demolish averything but their own. (saw one such message about
tricking linux users just a couple weeks ago while researching)

Their source has been crooked since the DOS and ASM days. They've been
sued and have ignored U.S. rulings since the DOS days. They've turned
on every U.S. company that once considered themselves ms insiders.

And for the U.S.? MS is poision. It means more imports and less U.S.
workers. Don't think we like it. No one in the U.S. likes the phone
company or big government. Allthough I think the goverment worker
population now outnumbers the *real* workers in the U.S.

You can't fight the bitch with ideas. Only with faith, GPL code, and
brotherhood to your own; unix users. And that is where the Lindows guy went
wrong. He trusted to faith what is not a matter faith. And he failed
to (though I would have at his age) look into the Oracle of the past
still in the aged Forums on the internet. It was called war then.
People took it seriously then.

Incidentally:  I won't let this issue rest I'm afraid.  I won't rest
until there is NO

Bug#295804: A fix for the dependency generation bug

2005-02-19 Thread Daniel Schepler
This bug appears to be caused by the patch in #272307 attempting to
use the [i386 ...] syntax in the Depends field, which is invalid and
causes dpkg-gencontrol to ignore the whole line. Here's a patch to
instead pass a substitution variable to dpkg-gencontrol at build time.
