Bug#357207: xkb-data: does not work at all after upgrade

2006-03-16 Thread Andreas Kroschel
Package: xkb-data
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrade to 0.8-1, keyboard layouts in xkb-data do not work at all.
It doesn't make any difference whether they are configured in xorg.conf
or in a setxkbmap command, neither does it matter whether I set a
symlink from /usr/share/X11/xkb to /etc/X11/xkb, as described in the
README file, or if I start the X server with the option “-xkbdir
/usr/share/X11/xkb” and an equivalent XKBPATH environmant variable.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get setxkbmap to say more than “Error loading
new keyboard description”.

When I remove the roles keyword from the __init__() call in parser.py:18, the
build works. It gives me many warnings, though. (Maybe this is normal.)

docutils.parsers.rst.states.Inliner.__init__() previously had a roles keyword
argument which is not present anymore in the new python-docutils version.
Since the old version didn't use it at all, it looks safe to just remove it
from the call as described above.

(Otherwise, the bug could be reassigned to python-docutils for the API
compatibility regression but I don't think this is necessary.)

Thanks for considering.

This is holding a number of other modules out of Etch, since they
build-depend on kdepim >= 3.5.x.

Adding jar to the build dependencies fixes this.

Bug#357009: Inclusion of new texinfo.tex breaks other packages

2006-03-16 Thread Norbert Preining
Dear Karl!

You remember when we tracked down the
page-numbers-in-table-of-contents-are-wrong bug, you fixed it in
texinfo.tex and advised me to include the current texinfo.tex, as it
will not break other things.

Well it did apparently, maybe you can help me here:

I took the follwoing input file which was reduced from a real world
example until it was more or less minimal:
\input texinfo
@set emacs
@ifclear emacs
@ifclear xemacs
@set emacs
@end ifclear
@end ifclear
@bye

With version 2006-01-27.14 I get:
Runaway argument?
@end [EMAIL PROTECTED]
! File ended while scanning use of @next.

@par
<*> .../norbert/bla/tramp-2.0.52/texi/new/foo.texi

I suspect you have forgotten a `}', causing me
to read past where you wanted me to stop.
I'll try to recover; but if the error is serious,
you'd better type `E' or `X' now and fix your file.

! Emergency stop.
<*> .../norbert/bla/tramp-2.0.52/texi/new/foo.texi

*** (job aborted, no legal \end found)

While with 2004-11-25.16 I get no page of output and no error.

In fact the file was much longer, and did have many more stuff, and the
initial @set emacs was included via a -t "@set emacs" line.

Could you explain this?

Best wishes

Norbert

As documented above, the *.gmo files are removed because they were changed by
the build process. Unfortunately, this leads to the problem now reported by
dpkg-source.

A possible fix is having a backup of the orig.tar.gz shipped gmo files and
copying them back in "clean". Yes, an ugly fix, but for a broken design
(gettext generated gmo files) anyway. Repackaging the orig.tar.gz doesn't
seem to be reasonable here.

Thanks for considering.

Thanks - the diff is against another version you did to enable XAUTH support,
but I think I'll manage to apply it ;-)

A binNMU has been scheduled on the i386 autobuilder for this issue. No
further maintainer action should be required (other than being careful in
the future to build against unstable when uploading).

Yes, this is bug #356319, #356687 and #356838 filed against liblo. I
see that it is supposed to be fixed in liblo in version 0.23-2,
but since there are no binaries handy for any of the architectures
I have on hand and it seems to randomly FTBFS due to autotools breakage,
I am just going to wait and see if this gets fixed on it's own for now.

Mark, do you want to prod the liblo maintainer a little?

Bug#357240: segfaults with kernel 2.6.15

2006-03-16 Thread Marco Presi
Package: gpib-modules-source
Version: 3.2.06-1
Severity: grave

When I try to load _any_ of the modules (tnt4882, for example) I got a
segfault and a kernel panic.

You can find a detailed log at
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=9903408&forum_id=2853

Probably this package should indicate a conflict with kernels >= 2.6.15
until next linux-gpib release that should fix the problem.

I'm not sure I've understood you correctly: the depends is against experimental
makedev which won't create the necessary /dev entries, bluez-utils is
installable in unstable.

please: next time fill another bug since this is a different matter than
original bug.

Not grave. It works with other kernels.

You get an Oops. Not a panic.

I follow the list and already had a discussion with Frank about the
issue.

I'll wait for a new release or backport the change if I find time.
Conflicting with anything doesn't solve the problem.

Robert.

ok, did a bit of research in this; seems like it is a bug in
ExtUtils::MakeMaker 6.30, which is part of perl 5.8.8, see
http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=17224
for details; let's see how to get around this.

unless someone has incorporated the EE:MM fix into that version; I'll try to
reproduce this pass this bug on to perl...

Bug#357259: tar: GFDL documentation with unmodifiable sections

2006-03-16 Thread Sven Joachim

Package: tar
Version: 1.15.1-4
Severity: serious

From the tar info manual:

Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this

Version 1.1 or any later version published by the Free Software
Foundation; with the Invariant Sections being "GNU General Public

is included in the section entitled "GNU Free Documentation

 (a) The FSF's Back-Cover Text is: "You are free to copy and modify
this GNU Manual. Buying copies from GNU Press supports the FSF in
developing GNU and promoting software freedom."

Please try to obtain permission from upstream to delete the
unmodifiable sections, otherwise you will have to remove the whole
manual. :-(

Note that there is something strange with the manual, as the GPL is
not actually included AFAICS; this seems to be an upstream mistake.

Bug#357260: bash-doc: GFDL documentation with cover texts

2006-03-16 Thread Sven Joachim

Package: bash-doc
Version: 3.1-3

Please try to obtain permission from upstream to delete the cover

There is also a mismatch: The above text says the manual is
licensed under GFDL 1.1, while later included is the text for GFDL 1.2.

Adding jar to the build dependencies fixes this.

Thanks for considering.

Bug#285257: ext2resize - invalid superblock on BE machines

2006-03-16 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
tags 285257 - patch
thanks

[Petter Reinholdtsen]
> Can anyone test and verify that it solves the problem?

I got Sven Luther to test on a powerpc machine, without much success.
He was using test filesystem and used resize2fs to reduce it and then
tried to use ext2resize to reduce and extend it. The log messages are
from IRC, I hope I got it right.

Reducing the file systems using -v option gave this message:

  ext2resize v1.1.19 - 2001/03/18 for EXT2FS 0.5b
ext2resize: 50 is a bad size for an ext2 fs! rounding down to 499713
group 117 inode table has offset 2, not 7
group 118 inode table has offset 2, not 7
using 0 reserved group descriptor blocks

And then nothing happened. It had to be killed.

Extending the file system had more success, but gave a currupt file
system. These messages appeared during resize:

cache direct hits: 4152, indirect hits: 22, misses: 64
cache direct hits: 4152, indirect hits: 22, misses: 64
  new filesystem size 971046
using 0 reserved group descriptor blocks
  relocating blocks
don't need relocation for group 0
don't need relocation for group 1
  ...
don't need relocation for group 62
 ...flushing buffer 63/block 507905
  ...
 ...flushing buffer 119/block 966657
cache direct hits: 4152, indirect hits: 22, misses: 64

fsck gave these errors after the resize:

Root inode is not a directory. Clear?
Inode 8 has illegal block(s). Clear?
Illegal block #0 (318898176) in inode 8. CLEARED.
Illegal block #1 (335675392) in inode 8. CLEARED.

Illegal block #9 (469893120) in inode 8. CLEARED.
Illegal block #10 (486670336) in inode 8. CLEARED.
Too many illegal blocks in inode 8.
  Clear inode?
  Inode 11, i_blocks is 402653184, should be 0. Fix?

I conclude that the patch is not enough to fix the problem on big
endian machines.

Hi,

here is the problem:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

The ext3 filesystem of the buildd has the option dir_index activated,
this causes the build failure.

Best regards

Bug#354847: Patch for filesystem reordering

2006-03-16 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Package: tar
Version: 1.14-2
Followup-For: Bug #354847

Hi,

the test failures seem to be caused by the dir_index feature of
ext2/3. Unlike older ext2/3 this does not return files in the order of
creation. Due to this tar -c will add files to an archive in a
different order. The attached patch sorts the tar output in the two
failed tests. There might be other failures on xfs or reiserfs though.

Bug#357301: eclipse randomly crashes, usually at startup

2006-03-16 Thread César Enrique García Dabó
Package: eclipse
Version: 3.1.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I am trying to use eclipse in my testing/unstable system.
Each time I start eclipse with j2se it crashes randomly. Sometimes it doesn`t
go beyond the splashscreen, other times it crashes just after the framework
has been showed, and other times (not often) it crashes when trying to open
a project or a menu option. I append the error report file created by
java. Also a window is showed with the command line options,
 I reproduced it below.
 The java version used is:
Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (Blackdown-1.4.2-03 mixed mode)

I have tried with sable-vm, but it randomly get hang, without response.
I have also tried with kaffe, but it runs tremondously slowly and finally
it also crashes (I found no log file).

Error window message when crashes:

Bug#357009: Inclusion of new texinfo.tex breaks other packages

2006-03-16 Thread Karl Berry
texinfo.tex and advised me to include the current texinfo.tex, as it
will not break other things.

Well, I hope I didn't make quite such a blanket statement! What I know
is that the currently distributed texinfo.tex (tug.org/tex/texinfo.tex)
fixes many bugs over the one in 4.8. Of course further bugs are
inevitable.

With version 2006-01-27.14 I get:

I made some changes on February 13 in this area. Try the current
version :). Your test file works for me.

Could you explain this?

Yes, @ifset/@ifclear (among other things) are impossible to reliably
parse in TeX :(. Especially nested.

Best,
k

No, that's not true...

This won't fix the problem and is not needed. The gettext generated gmo
files are no broken design unless you think that binaries and libaries
should also just be executed from source code! They shouldn't be in the
upstream tarball though!

I think the info file should be deleted in the clean target to solve the
FTBFS.

> /etc/texmf/fmtutil.cnf

Ah. This file shouldn't be a symlink, but a real file. Hm, did we ever
have that setup, maybe during sarge development? Anyway, when
update-fmtutil tries to generate that file, it should either

- write to the destination of the link, or

- simply replace the symlink by a real file, or

- stop with an error,

instead of doing nothing as it currently does.

I think I'm going to change it so that it gives an error (it'd be
surprising if local customization in /etc/texmf/fmtutil.cnf suddenly
stopped working).

So to fix your bug, simply remove the symlink. In case that you have
some local customization in /etc/texmf/fmtutil.cnf: The real conffile
is /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf, please make your changes there, or
better, if you only have *additions*, create a new file with extension
*.cnf in /etc/texmf/fmt.d/ and place your additions there.

By the way, this is explained in README.Debian (in text and html
format).

It still looks closed (in all versions) to me. Are you sure that that is what
you want, instead of - say - fixing it?

Bug#347332: Fix

2006-03-16 Thread Alan Woodland
Fix is on its way, awaiting proper testing on unstable by myself and a
fix to the "local help" patch which I had a quick look at today. The
version at http://users.aber.ac.uk/ajw05/debian/ should be mostly
working though.

Well, somehow src:openoffice.org does not show it, yes, probably because
it's a new package. but bugs.debian.org/openoffice.org-gcj did show it
the last two days; same with "bts show openoffice.org-gcj" which I just ran
now...

bts show openoffice.org-gcj failed to show it at the time I sent the bug
report. I never tried the src: as I am well aware of the problem with NEW
binary packages...

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on some arches because g++ seems
to need lots of RAM. On arm and mipsel it failed with a message
like:
cc1plus: out of memory allocating 616522820 bytes after a total of 47400632 byt
es
make[3]: *** [GBA.o] Error 1

While on amd64, it gets OOM killed (after using more than 1 GB of
RAM) and you get:
g++: Internal error: Killed (program cc1plus)

After looking at the script, I think it's on purpose to allow a
symlink. I've changed the note (skipped when called with --quiet) to a
warning, but kept the exitcode at 0.

Might be the same problem: updmap.cfg should be a normal file in
/var/lib/texmf/web2c, is it a symlink on your system?

The same advice holds as for fmtutil.cnf: Please change things in the
files in /etc/texmf/updmap.d/, add things by adding files *.cfg in that
directory.

Dear maintainer

Please upgrade the build dependencies of your package to use
libmysqlclient15-dev

We do not need to hurry with this as the MySQL libraries have versioned
dependencies. Just remember to do this when your doing the next upload
anyway.

(If this could happen within six weeks or so, I would appreciat it so that
I can finally get completely rid of any MySQL 4.0.x and 4.1.x packages
leaving Etch only with 5.0.x.)

thanks,

Bug#356850: initramfs-tools: upon udev upgrade, system becomes unbootable if using lilo

Ouch! If this is true, it'd seem that somehow, the udev postinst needs
to find every intramfs image and regenerate it. First, that sounds like
a bad idea, even if it were technically possible. Second, it sounds
technically impossible (what if the admin generates one for his
hand-built kernel?)

OTOH, it makes the system extremely fragile. If the new kernel breaks,
you're supposed to be able to boot with LinuxOLD. But it sounds like
that can't be made safe: Either there is a udev version mismatch or
there is a newly-created, potentially-broken initramfs for that kernel.

Yeah.
