Package: pngcrush
Version: 1.6.4-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I know! I'm the maintainer but I can't see a fix right away!

After the recent upgrade of libpng (presumably 1.2.13 I haven't been
able to check it fully yet) pngcrush is broken:

$ pngcrush logo.png
pngcrush: relocation error: pngcrush: symbol png_iCCP, version PNG12_0
not defined \
in file libpng12.so.0 with link time reference

Looks like libpng devlopers made some more API changes!

Note that the package does not build anymore with the libpng12-dev
that is currently in "etch".

We need to fix "pngcrush" by contacting the upstream developer who is
also one of the main developers for "libpng".

Regards,

Kapil.

Bug#401263: apt segfaults when reading package lists

2006-12-01 Thread Jan Evert van Grootheest

Package: apt
Version: 0.6.46.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Whenever I do something with apt-get, it segfaults. Specifically, it
seems that it crashes
when reading package lists. For example, 'update' fetches all files and
displays the 'Fetched...'
line and it also displays 'Reading lists: 0%' or something like that and
then the beginning of that

line is overwritten so it reads 'Segmentation faultsts... 0%'.

I have an uptodate testing here. And yesterday I also updated, so there
are not too many packages

that could cause this.
The packages that got updated today are: gpgv, gnupg, apt-listchanges,
libexif12,
wine, libwine-gl, wine-utils, libwine, libxslt1.1, linux-image-2.6-686,
ppp and xsltproc.

I would guess that apt-listchanges is somewhat related. Uninstalling
that did not fix it.

I have tarred the package lists; available on request.

Here's what GDB thinks about it:

Package: python-ctypes
Version: 1.0.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

As seen on packages.debian.org [1], the python-ctypes package is empty
on hppa.

The reason is probably this (from the build log):

configure: error: "libffi has not been ported to hppa64-unknown-linux-gnu."

If hppa can't be supported, please remove it from the architecture list
and have the old package removed from the archive.

Bug#401258: heimdal-kdc: destroys hprop inetd config on upgrades

2006-12-01 Thread Peter Palfrader
Package: heimdal-kdc
Version: 0.7.2.dfsg.1-6
Severity: serious

It seems the heimdal-kdc upgrade disables hpropd in inetd
unconditionally on upgrades:

| Preconfiguring packages ...
| (Reading database ... 11871 files and directories currently installed.)
| Preparing to replace heimdal-kdc 0.7.2.dfsg.1-6 (using

| Stopping Heimdal KDC: heimdal-kdc.

| Setting up heimdal-kdc (0.7.2.dfsg.1-6) ...

|
| typhon:~# grep hprop /etc/inetd.conf
| ## krb_propstream tcp nowait root/usr/sbin/tcpd

Apparently the package's prerm script disables all services unconditionally.

All running instances of Firefox immediately crash and exit when

The gdb backtrace turned up only "No stack."

Bug#401248: pngcrush: Relocation error

2006-12-01 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Package: pngcrush
Version: 1.6.4-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I know! I'm the maintainer but I can't see a fix right away!

After the recent upgrade of libpng (presumably 1.2.13 I haven't been
able to check it fully yet) pngcrush is broken:

$ pngcrush logo.png
pngcrush: relocation error: pngcrush: symbol png_iCCP, version PNG12_0
not defined \
in file libpng12.so.0 with link time reference

Looks like libpng devlopers made some more API changes!

Note that the package does not build anymore with the libpng12-dev
that is currently in "etch".

We need to fix "pngcrush" by contacting the upstream developer who is
also one of the main developers for "libpng".

Regards,

Kapil.

Mozart is a platform specific emulator and platform agnostic byte
codes all living in the same place. Upstream supports many platforms
sharing a common installation (in shared filespace) by dynamically
finding the right emulator by calling uname

For debian we do things different. I can modify our package to map
sparc64 to sparc-linux and all will work (if sparc64 really is 32
bit), but I don't think this is a change I could feed to upstream.

I don't think running the build under sparc32 is a solution because it
means the users will have to also invoke mozart/oz under sparc32.

cheers
k

Mozart (upstream) is very anal about these things. If it meets a
strange architecture it just refuses to play. We need to show it works
then enable support. It would be nice if mozart just checked the
functionality of the platform it is building on but it doesn't.

Also, mozart is not enabling any 64-bit functionality. Sadly it runs
away and hides in a corner if it even hears a rumour that the
platform is 64 but .

As I said in my response to the previous message I am not sure that we
are ignoring the passed in architecture string during configure, but
we will still break when we run certain scripts which rely on uname to
find their buddies.

I have installed

kpilot_3.5.5.dfsg.1-3~sune1_i386.deb
libkcal2b_3.5.5.dfsg.1-3~sune1_i386.deb
libkdepim1a_3.5.5.dfsg.1-3~sune1_i386.deb
libktnef1_3.5.5.dfsg.1-3~sune1_i386.deb

from that location and was able to sync my palm with this kpilot. It has
synchronized the calendar and the addressbook. While I have not checked every
entry, it seemed functional on those I checked. I do not use any other
conduits.

Same for me. I have enabled ESD, and it seems better (but I haven't

I'm wondering if this bug shouldn't be downgraded, since it appears to only

Hi,

I tried to upgrade imapproxy today, but failed:

Fouten gevonden tijdens behandelen van:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/imapproxy_1.2.4-5_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

It seems the error is in the init script when it is called with stop:

The init script stops imapproxy but still return exit code 1, which is cause by
the call
to grep:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/imapproxy start ; echo $?
  Starting IMAP proxy: imapproxy.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo start-stop-daemon --oknodo --stop --quiet

Because there are no warning the call to grep returns with exit code 1, which
causes the initscript to exit with code 1:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo "" | grep warning ; echo $?

Hence, all FTBFS bugs for this version are not relevant anymore.

So, libpng 1.2.14 doesn't fix the problem.

Bug#400355: mozart-gtk: FTBFS: arch is unknown ?

> That explains my confusion. It may well be that mozart can run on
> sparc64 but it needs testing.

No, "sparc64" has nothing to do with this. The value returned by uname
*should* have nothing to do with this. Almost all sparc systems in use
today are 64-bit processors, but the Debian userspace port is a *32-bit*
system; and building code with gcc without specific flags gets you 32-bit
binaries, not 64-bit binaries.

If something in mozart is looking at the uname and deciding to enable some
kind of 64-bit functionality, that's a bug in mozart. With very few
exceptions, the target that Debian packages need to be building for on sparc
is sparc-linux, *not* sparc64-linux; and your package is not one of those
exceptions, because it doesn't have any of the necessary 64-bit
build-dependencies...

> It is unfortunate that different machines in the same Debian
> architecture report that they have different underlying architectures

You should be ignoring the output of uname altogether. I don't know if
uname is actually confusing mozart's build, but it does seem to be confusing
its maintainer. ;)

Thanks,

`mgp sample.mgp' produces the same warnings, but it doesn't cause
the X error on my sid environment (sid i386 on 2006-12-02,
linux-image-2.6.18-3-486 2.6.18-6, libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8,

After I fully upgraded on my sid environment today, this problem
is gone. It might be caused by my half-upgraded environment...

So, if libm17n-dev is installed, `mgp sample.mgp' doesn't abort on
my sid environment now.

Bug#401237: should not transition to testing, at least while ikiwiki 1.33 is there

2006-12-01 Thread Joey Hess
Package: libcgi-formbuilder-perl
Version: 3.04.01-1
Severity: serious

This new upstream version of CGI::FormBuilder has some behavior changes
and at least one outright bug that, collectively, make it not work with
versions of ikiwiki before 1.35.

It should not be allowed to transition to testing until ikiwiki 1.35 has
made it into testing.

The RMs might have more to say about the general wisdom of letting this
major new upstream version of CGI::FormBuilder with its odd behavior
changes into testing at this late date in the etch release cycle.

Bug#400355: mozart-gtk: FTBFS: arch is unknown ?

2006-12-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Side note -- sparc does have a "sparc32" util that can be used to change the
kernel personality that a process is running under (i.e., it changes the
output of uname among other things...), and I believe the official buildds
run all builds under sparc32 to avoid precisely these issues. Julien, can
you confirm whether mozart/mozart-gtk build for you under sparc32?

It's still a bug in these packages if they're looking at the value of uname
instead of the architecture string from configure (in this case, one that's
been passed *explicitly* on the commandline!), but there's no reason it
should need to be RC if sparc32 works around it.

Thanks,

No, it isn't. The latest upload still build-depends on squashfs-source and
unionfs-source, and these packages are still not available in testing. I
spelled this out in detail in my previous mail to this bug.

And l-m-e-2.6 is still failing to build on arm because of the ICE in
squashfs.

So action is still required to resolve this bug; either we need some arm
porter to step up and resolve the squashfs problem, or l-m-e-2.6 needs to
not build squashfs modules on arm.

Symlinking system directories that are under the control of packages is
always a risky affair. I'm sorry if this resulted in real data loss for
you, but I don't think it's appropriate to hold schroot responsible at an
RC-level for all the ways that things can go wrong if you put symlinks where
directories are expected.

BTW, an obvious way to do this without the use of symlinks would be to make
/var/lib/schroot *itself* a bind-mount...

Please see http://bugs.debian.org/401153 for the original bug report.
Basically, iasl successfully compiles the atteched dsl file on a regular
i386 pc, but when running the same program on PowerPC (Debian GNU/Linux)
then you get a segmentation fault. There is probably a bug in the
program somewhere which seems to only trigger on powerpc at the moment.

It has been tracked down to being related to Asl.Value.String being
NULL. This state seems invalid and makes the program crash. Do you have
any idea what might have failed and how this variable could be
uninitialized? It would be really appreciated if you have any hints
about possible failures that we can investigate...

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson

I get a base64 error authenticating to a system that works fine with a
previous version of sasl.

To reproduce:

apt-get install krb5-user
kinit [EMAIL PROTECTED]
password: foobarbaz

apt-get install cyrus21-clients

imtest -m gssapi -u hartmans imap.suchdamage.org

You get a base64 decoding error. With the old sasl you should get an
authentication failure because testprinc is not allowed to read my
mail.

Evidently this is another gstreamer-related crash, but I'm not seeing this
at all on my amd64 system here.

Curiously,

My gstreamer config is set up to use alsa, but if I click on Tools ->
Preferences -> Sounds in gaim, alsa isn't even listed as a supported method
on its own here.

I'm wondering if this bug shouldn't be downgraded, since it appears to only
happen in certain (as yet unspecified) circumstances.

I've packages ready now, but I've to forward port the device3dfx

and provide the stuff for testing.

This was probably because cfitsio 3.006-1.2, which was the first try
at fixing the issue (#397619), was uploaded on Nov 21 but never built
succesfully on arm and mips. This was fixed in 3.006-1.3 on Nov 26,
so all arches should be OK now.

I just verified that libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl 1.05-1 builds fine on arm
(a qemu installation) with cfitsio3 3.006-1.3.

As I managed to test the build myself, I guess this isn't needed anymore.

Bug#401153: backtrace for iasl bug #401153

2006-12-01 Thread Mattia Dongili
Hi Robert,

I've been submitted a bug from the powerpc Debian's folks (see below or
point your browser at [1]).
In short the story is: we enabled building iasl for powerpc in order to
buld DSDT tables for qemu which is available on powerpc and can emulate
the x86.
So we have a DSDT which makes iasl segfault while building on powerpc,
it doesn't on i386. The DSDT is here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi/acpi-dsdt.dsl?bug=401153;msg=5;att=1

Can you help putting some light where the problem may hide?

Thanks

I forgot to mention, this is on Debian Testing PowerPC with iasl
recompiled with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="noopt, nostrip".

Some additional printf debugging shows this:
TrAmlTransformWalk -> TrTransformSubtree -> TrDoDefinitionBlock

File compiler/asltransform.c line 432:
if (!ACPI_COMPARE_NAME (Next->Asl.Value.String, ACPI_SIG_DSDT))

it blows up here Next->Asl.Value.String is NULL... All the
macro/pointer obfuscation got me lost here...

HTH

Yes, during package upgrade. What you are doing is to re-configure the
package, that is, you are overwriting the old configuration. It is not
possible to allow all possible configurations using the debconf
interface as the possibilities of all non-trivial applications are
overwhelming.

Therefore, the debconf scripts for ddclient are only capable of
configuring for the common case that you update a single DynDNS entry.
I do not currently plan to support multiple hosts via debconf.

Greetings

Torsten

Package: texlive-omega
Version: 2005.dfsg.2-4
Severity: serious

texlive-omega provides a binary named aleph in /usr/bin. The same is
true for the package aleph. The right fix for this would be packaging
AFNIX (#379564), which supersedes the aleph programming language
provided by the aleph package. This would remove this filename conflict.
However, nobody has claimed AFNIX's RFP yet and aleph has been orphaned
some time ago (#374120). Hence texlive-omega should do the same as
tetex-bin does already, ie, conflict with aleph (<< 1:0).

Package: linux-modules-extra-2.6
Version: 2.6.17-2
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

The source package depends on the 'squashfs-source' and 'unionfs-source'
package, which are not available in etch.

Looking at packages.debian.org: 'squashfs-source' is only available in
unstable and 'unionfs-source' only in stable and unstable, but _not_
testing!

As far as I remember, by removing all the relevant rules for building
the unionfs/squasfs related modules-packages, the
'redhat-cluster-modules' and 'spca5xx-modules' are building fine (at
least on amd64).

Bug#400483: fmit: --disable-alsa seems to workaround the problem.

2006-12-01 Thread Ludovic RESLINGER
Hi,

I tested fmit today on a native debian unstable
updated with latests packages today, on my
x86.

fmit works fine:

Endian success
CaptureThread: INFO: ALSA: try to set sampling rate to 96000 failed
CaptureThread: INFO: ALSA: try to set sampling rate to 48000 success

This week, I tested fmit on 3 computers:
- An Apple iBook G3 (PowerPC)
- An AMD64 with Sound Blaster Audigy2 sound card.
- An x86 with a compatible sound blaster 16 bit sound card.

On all theses computers, fmit works fine. For you, it seems
to be a problem with alsa or libasound2.

Could you verify if all your system is updated with latest versions
of packages?

Package: tar

Severity: critical
Tags: sarge, sid, upstream, security

There is a directory traversal bug in GNU tar as described in
http://lists.grok.org.uk/pipermail/full-disclosure/2006-November/050812.html
which means the creation and overwriting of files outside the expected
directory without using -P.

I could reproduce this security flaw in Sarge (tar 1.14-2.2) as well
in Sid (tar 1.16-1), so it probably is also in the version in Etch.

I forgot to mention, this is on Debian Testing PowerPC with iasl
recompiled with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="noopt, nostrip".

Some additional printf debugging shows this:
TrAmlTransformWalk -> TrTransformSubtree -> TrDoDefinitionBlock

File compiler/asltransform.c line 432:
if (!ACPI_COMPARE_NAME (Next->Asl.Value.String, ACPI_SIG_DSDT))

it blows up here Next->Asl.Value.String is NULL... All the
macro/pointer obfuscation got me lost here...

Bug#400355: mozart-gtk: FTBFS: arch is unknown ?

2006-12-01 Thread Kevin Glynn

That explains my confusion. It may well be that mozart can run on
sparc64 but it needs testing. Would it be possible for me to have an
account? I am not a DD, I am currently in the application process.

Otherwise I will need your help to modify the mozart sources to see if
it will build.

It is unfortunate that different machines in the same Debian
architecture report that they have different underlying architectures

Wouldn't that ensure that apt is at least unpacked before
debian-archive-keyring is configured? Anyway, running apt-key update in
apt seems smarter.

Bug#380080: Logrotate hangs

2006-12-01 Thread Henk van de Kamer

Hi,

The following check was introduced in version 1.4.13-4 of the
force-reload | restart section in /etc/init.d/lighttpd:

  [ -r  $PIDFILE ] && while pidof lighttpd |\
 grep -q `cat $PIDFILE 2>/dev/null` 2>/dev/null ; do sleep 1; done

With this check the logrotate hangs as follows:

21891 ?S 0:00 /USR/SBIN/CRON
21892 ?Ss 0:00 /bin/sh -c test -x /usr/sbin/anacron ||
run-parts --r

21893 ?S 0:00 run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily
21912 ?Zs 0:00 [logrotate]

I don't exactly understand this new check. I think that the number in
PIDFILE after restart is again the same as pidof? In the past the sleep
1 was enough on my machines to restart, so probably the new check is
always true, even as the PID has changed...

I think a better check is first get the old PID and then check this one
with pidoff until both are different.

It seems that the patch was only applied to src/m3dtexture.h and not

If you get it to work, I'll be glad to upload it.

To get it to work, i simply follow those steps:

Bug#399685: Can we link smssend to openssl?

2006-12-01 Thread Andreas Barth
Hi,

smssend is distributed under the GPL. Openssl is distributed under a
version of the BSD-license that is incompatible with the GPL.

We however would like to link smssend to openssl. If you could us grant
this additional right (in addition to the GPL), that would be great. Is
that possible?

Bug#325528: possible workaround?

2006-12-01 Thread Andreas Barth

Hi,

the only libraries opened via dlopen are from the same source package,
and both have version 0. So, one could replace the extension just with
".so.0" - nothing too good and nice, but it at least works.

Please see below a patch for this, that worked for me. I'm not yet sure
if this isn't too ugly to upload it - and of course, the final fix
should be different. But for that fix, working with upstream is
required, as the real fix will change code at more places.

Cheers,
Andi

Package: libgeda20
Version: 20060906-2
Severity: serious

Hi Hamish,

So looking at libgeda for bug #400252 brings another RC bug to my attention:
you have not been changing your library package name in keeping with the
soname changes of this library, and the shlibs provided by libgeda reference
this same, unchanging package name, which means any packages built against
an older version of the package will be installable but broken when a new
soname of the lib is available.

Evidently you've worked around this in all the in-archive packages that
depend on libgeda by adding versioned conflicts each time a new version of
libgeda comes out, which explains some of the other release-critical bugs
I've seen in the past. This is technically sound for those packages in
Debian, albeit high-maintenance and aesthetically displeasing; but shlibs
files must contain sufficient information that *others* get correct
dependencies when linking against your library as well, which is currently
not the case.

In addition, since there are no file overlaps between subsequent versions of
libgeda, this breaks co-installability of packages built against different
versions of libgeda for no apparent reason. If there *were* file conflicts
between the different versions, I would say that your use of Provides: is a
perfectly reasonable technical solution and that the only thing in need of
fixing is the shlibs file, but as it stands I think this is a gratuitous
deviation from Debian library best practices. Please fix libgeda so that
the library package name matches the soname, and update the shlibs to match.
Although this does mean new upstream versions of libgeda will have to go
through the NEW queue, it also should require much less packaging work on
the whole when updating...

The library package name is not a release-critical issue, BTW, so if you
insist on keeping this package name, geda won't be kicked from the release
because of it. But the shlibs do need to be fixed.

Thanks,

Bug#401114: debian-archive-keyring: should probably depend on apt >= 0.6

In my opinion, since apt depends debian-archive-keyring, the proper fix
is to do 'apt-key update' in apt postinst (in supplement to
doing it in debian-archive-keyring postinst).

Adding a dependency on apt to debian-archive-keyring would create a
circular dependency and would not fix the problem.

This bug is similar to #400935.

Bug#401183: linux-image-2.6.17-2-xen-686.postinst not idempotent

2006-12-01 Thread Robert Bihlmeyer
Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-xen-686

ObSeverity: policy 6.2 looks like a MUST to me, though not explicitly

When configuring this package a second time the
update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.17-2-xen-686
bombs because the initramfs file is already present. Maybe the old file should
be deleted before this? Another option is to not check the existence of "$2",
but whether the initramfs file exists to decide between "-c" and "-u".

Ah, I just assumed that it was merely a conceptual example. I didn't
realize that it was a functional example. Thanks for providing one end
of the test environment! :)

The new Cyrus SASL has a partially rewritten sasl_decode64 function,
which is stricter and more complete than the old one. However, it seems
that applications (at least imtest) assume they can pass in a
CRLF-terminated string. The code anticipates this in a comment, but
doesn't actually implement CRLF-ignoring at the end of the string.

The attached patch makes sasl_decode64 ignore a trailing CRLF.

More eyes are welcome! Please let me know if the patch seems to be
incorrect.

Thanks,

Bug#401180: schroot: using a symlink for /var/lib/schroot/mount causes /home and /tmp to be erased

2006-12-01 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: schroot
Version: 1.0.3-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes removal of /home

Hi,

I am using "file" chroots. the chroot is usually untared under
/var/lib/schroot, however, I wanted to change this to another location
(my /var is quite small, and many apps don't like it being full).

I couldn't find any way to specify another directory for this, so I just
symlinked /var/lib/schroot to another place. However, this caused
$LIBEXEC_DIR/schroot-listmounts to be unable to determine that /home,
/tmp, etc were still bind-mounted. So do_umount_all in that file exits
without error even if my filesystems are still bind-mounted, and my home
directory and my /tmp got removed.

Example:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mount
[...]
/dev/pts on
/home/space/schroot/tetch-0128da3c-4a77-4b19-a10b-f60b91536bb5/dev/pts
type none (rw,bind)
tmpfs on
/home/space/schroot/tetch-0128da3c-4a77-4b19-a10b-f60b91536bb5/dev/shm
type tmpfs (rw)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/lib/schroot/schroot-listmounts -m
/var/lib/schroot/mount/tetch-0128da3c-4a77-4b19-a10b-f60b91536bb5/
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

schroot-listmounts needs fixing, of course. But it would also be nice to
not bind-mount /home by default. There was already a bug causing
/home removal (bug #369626).

Please note that this bug was discovered in version 1.0.2-1. I cannot
confirm that 1.0.3-1 is also affected since I'm still recovering data
from a backup. However, I diff'd the two source packages and couldn't
find any reason why it wouldn't be affected.

Thank you,

The error occurs first with version 1.11b-3, it didn't with version
1.11b-2. Now looking at the changelog.

Creating SSH2 RSA key; this may take some time ...PRNG is not seeded
dpkg: error processing ssh-krb5 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 255

hi. uninstallable packages are RC and not important, or? #385950
ah, fails to install is RC
hmf, we need a java person to take #397567
and fails to install in a vserver? (ssh-krb5: PRNG is not seeded) -
no bug filed yet..
h01ger: in a vserver is a bit of an odd use case
 Sesse: not really
h01ger: I'm not going to cluebat you for filing it as serious ...

You can see that all ways how (pseudo)-entropy can be taken are locked
somehow. I recommend to have /dev/*random available also inside a
vserver, otherwise lots of applications are hitten bad.
