Bug#387606: Bug#402402: lightspeed: crushes on start

2006-12-11 Thread Ola Lundqvist
unmerge 387606 402402
reassign 387606 lightspeed
severity 402402 important
thanks

Hi

Doh!!! I have been looking in the wrong source tree for lightspeed.
Sorry about that. I must have downloaded the sarge version some time
ago and did not check which version I was looking into. Thanks a lot
for that pointer.

Detaching one of the bugs and reassign that back to lightspeed. I keep
one of them on fontconfig however as the real bug is there still but
not that serious as it is possible to go around it.

I have made a recheck of the source that do this kind of things and
I have not found any obvious faults. I checked for places where it could
pass a null pointer to fontconfig but all such cases is handled.

What I have done now is to comment out that FcFini call to make sure that
lightspeed do not crash. It is not a good solution, but good enough to
solve the immediate problem.

Thanks a lot! New version uploaded to the archives.

Best regards,

// Ola

I can't reproduce this. What architecture are you using?

Can you give me a complete recipe for producing the crash, starting with
an empty file?

I am just uploading version -7 to Debian now, it should solve the later problem.

I deleted the prerm script, and changed the postinst script to:

=== cut ===
case "$1" in
abort-upgrade | abort-deconfigure | abort-remove)

if [ -n "$2" ]
then
add_servers

then
enable_servers
fi
;;
*)
printf "$0: incorrect arguments: $*\n" >&2
exit 1
;;
esac
=== cut

I think this should do the right thing for all cases.

Purge still doesn't delete the hprop entry, not sure what is going on
here.

The actual code uses regexps, and as far as I can tell it shouldn't
matter if it is enabled or disabled:

=== cut ===
remove_servers() {
update-inetd --remove 'kerberos-adm[ \t].*[
\t]/usr/lib/heimdal-servers/kadmind'
update-inetd --remove 'krb_prop[ \t].*[ \t]/usr/sbin/hpropd'
}
=== cut ===

Bug#402679: backupninja: mysql handler overwrites existing backups even if mysqldump fails

2006-12-11 Thread Joel Fuster
Package: backupninja
Version: 0.9.4-4
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

The mysql backup handler happily overwrites your existing sql.gz files with
empty tarballs even in situations such as:

1) mysqldump does not exist
2) mysql is not running

...etc. This just bit me when #2 happened due to a crash in mysql which
involved corrupted data. Fortunately I have multiple snapshots of the
sql.gz files...

It looks like this might only happen when you specify the names of the
databases you wish to back up. Also, I have only tested this using the
"mysqldump" method.

Bug#249320: JSC: Do you ever feel a sense that you've created something beautiful when you write code?

Because no entity other than the JSP container processes template text,
a deferred expression would always be left unevaluated if it were
included in template text. In this example the URL only contains the
userid as a URL parameter. I'm glad I don't have to always add import

Such dynamic software systems will be self-contained, including within
themselves their entire source code, code for testing, and anything else
needed for their evolution. Secondly, I wish we had more participation
from industry in school. The class uses an Association to add or remove
file types. Being able to download JAR files and run them on just about
any desktop or laptop is pretty cool.
We now have greater expectations about how our software should behave,
and meeting those expectations requires more code. Our programming
languages can deal with low-level concerns like array bounds checking
and preventing buffer-overflow attacks. He graduated from Case Western

For higher-level matters such as maintaining system-wide constraints,
such as providing a specified quality of service, we need new
mechanisms.
This article provides an overview of the work that was done to improve
the alignment of these technologies.
We need to expand our definition of performance to go beyond just the
time it takes to do a task. JSF presents a Swing-like event model for
web applications that works very well with tools.
For instance, the latest Microsoft web services platform APIs are
documented using the Javadoc format and are thus easy for me to
comprehend.
It's not about redesigning your web service.
The child components are JPanel subclasses, each with a different
responsibility: AddressPanel represents an address record.
The Web service contains the sayHello operation with one input

redesigning your web service. I would go through design, develop, and
test cycles but would not document the design decisions or add comments
in the code.
But when you run them, they do something entirely different.
Would you care to comment on it?

After you download the binary distribution, you'll find a Java DB

You'll find that many applications can easily be created without
detailed knowledge of Java programming.
A compact report helps us focus the investigation so that we can quickly
determine the cause of the behavior.
Removing Blank Lines: TrimWhiteSpaceA frequent complaint in user forums
concerns the large number of blank lines, or white spaces, that often
clutter the output of a JSP technology page.
This JSR enables support for mechanisms defined by the WS-Addressing WG

long list of platforms.
Add the javadoc subdirectory from your Java DB installation. Now all you
need to do is to put the modules in the ear file in an obvious way,
follow some simple conventions like putting all your shared libraries in
the "lib" directory, and that's it.

If a Java programmer wants to write code that's somewhat more

Justification: Breaks upgrade path, should be fixed before release

I notice that asymptote has been split into two packages, asymptote and

causing following problem when upgrading from asymptote (1.14-1):

Unpacking asymptote-doc (from .../asymptote-doc_1.18-2_all.deb) ...

Preparing to replace asymptote 1.14-1 (using .../asymptote_1.18-2_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement asymptote ...

Apparently it didn't do that before either, and it appears to be pretty
common to leave commented lines lying around in inetd.conf. So this
could be ignored.

Hi,

Trying to avoid hugs crashing when it receives utf8 keyboard input
outside the ascii-range (a very annoying bug BTW for people with
non-us keyboards, probably somehow related to #334337), I tried to
build the version of hugs from experimental on my Powerbook G4. The
build failed due to erroneous inline assembly in builtin.c. Attached
is patch which I think contains the correct version of the assembly
code in question. At least it now compiles and does not crash due to
non-ascii characters, but maybe someone with more experience with PPC
asm should check this before releasing.

Bug#402653: kdvi crashes on startup

Hi!

I am currently unable to reproduce this under any normal conditions.

What does your /usr/share/services/emptymultipage.desktop contain? Do you have
the file? if yes, can you try send it to the bug report?
And what about /usr/share/servicetypes/kmultipage.desktop

If you try to apt-get --reinstall install kviewshell, do your problem
dissapear?

From Mac 6.4.3 you neither must turn off the mail over a GPU, nor should send
the tower to remove from the case.

Sure, I got that. Fine, the shame on me is my punishment for having
wanted to get a compromise. :)

Sorry Andrea, this is really RC (as I always said), but this is also
RC for etch (as I was told on #debian-release).

Huh. It might help if I checked that the address that I originally

Right. I forgot to add a Replaces: line to asymptote-doc. I'll

   postinst creates the file /usr/local/lib/eclipse/.eclipseextension
which is not allowed by FHS:

As mandated by the FHS, packages must not place any files in
`/usr/local', either by putting them in the file system archive to be
unpacked by `dpkg' or by manipulating them in their maintainer scripts.

Ah, so the situation is the result of your local configuration which
disables rotatelogs? This might lower the importance of the bug (it's
 currently considered release critical).

 Agreed.

OK, downgrading this bug's severity at least until we know whether Mario
can reproduce it with a recent kernel.

--- Begin Message ---
Package: apache2
Version: 2.2.3-3
Severity: important

I'm running Apache on a 2.4 kernel (not by choice, my colo virtual
server requires 2.4), and the latest Apache upgrade has some nasty
problems. The first problem is epoll() compatibility causing child
processes to segfault (already addressed by bug#392049), which I've
fixed by using a libapr1 built on a 2.4 kernel.

The second issue is a lot stranger and harder to track: after installing
the 2.4-friendly libapr1, apache2.2 now manages to run without
segfaulting, but all requests served have 0 bytes in the body. However,
access.log claims that the resource was sent in its entirety (gives the
correct byte count for every file I've tested), and the HTTP headers
claim that Content-Length is (correctly) the size of the file. But
Apache disconnects without actually sending the contents of the file.
I've tested this with multiple browsers, wget, and telnet, and all of
them are disconnected before actually receiving any actual content.

There are no error messages in the error logs, and, from the appearance
of the logs, the server is actually fully functional. An example access
log line is:

130.253.190.245 - - [01/Nov/2006:12:09:35 -0800] "GET /favicon.ico
HTTP/1.1" 200 326 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET
CLR 1.1.4322; InfoPath.1)"

which looks perfectly normal. Here's what it looks like with wget:

24.83.198.173 - - [01/Nov/2006:12:26:32 -0800] "GET /favicon.ico
HTTP/1.0" 200 326 "-" "Wget/1.10.2"

Again, perfectly, normal, except that what really happens on the
client end is that wget receives 0 bytes, and keeps retrying:

13:29:26 (0.00 B/s) - Connection closed at byte 0. Retrying.

The HTTP headers look like this:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Wed, 01 Nov 2006 20:30:21 GMT
Server: Apache/2.2
Last-Modified: Fri, 13 Jan 2006 03:17:00 GMT
ETag: "2e9809b-57e-e5fd4300"
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Length: 1406
Connection: close
Content-Type: image/x-icon

And then the connection is immediately closed without actually sending
the contents of the file.

The files themselves are fine: I've checked both their contents and
their permissions, as well as directory permissions. Besides, if I try
to access a non-existent resource, Apache does successfully send an
error message (with the HTML body intact).

None of these problems show up on my laptop running kernel 2.6, so I
suspect 2.4 incompatibility may be the culprit here. Any suggestions as
to how to obtain more information would be greatly appreciated. I've run
out of ideas as to where to look, since apache isn't crashing and the
logs look perfectly normal. Setting LogLevel to 'debug' shows no
useful information.

Here are relevant packages:

ii apache2 2.2.3-3Next generation, scalable, extendable
web server
ii apache2-mpm-prefork 2.2.3-3Traditional model for Apache HTTPD 2.1
ii apache2-utils 2.2.3-3utility programs for webservers
ii apache2.2-common2.2.3-3Next generation, scalable, extendable
web server
ii libapr1 1.2.7-6The Apache Portable Runtime Library

(libapr1 was rebuilt on 2.4 with dpkg-buildpackage to work around
#392049. No changes were made to the Debian sources.)

I disagree with this being the same bug - the original report made no

and maintaining its etch-ignore status.

Hi! The package still seem to contain the following non-free file:

systemimager-3.6.3dfsg1/e2fsprogs-1.38.tar.gz:e2fsprogs-1.38/doc/draft-leach-uuids-guids-01.txt

See also #390664, if you use the latest e2fsprogs source package, it
should be fixed.

Hello Alan,

icedove-traybiff cannot be built in sid, because it build-depends on

Bug#402545: compiz: Returning from another virtual terminal makes a black screen

2006-12-11 Thread Philippe Perrin
I retrieved the Xorg.log file for my compiz-enabled terminal. It adds
the following lines, at the moment I try to go back and it makes the
black screen:

(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)
(II) No APM support in BIOS or kernel
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x1024_74.00"
(II) Implicit Core Pointer: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded

Does it help?
Thanks.

Ok, reassigned; this is now an RC bug against cdbs. Peter, is the current
cdbs trunk something that's suitable for etch, or does it include other
extraneous changes?

This is a known problem at upstream (see URL above), and produced by
incomplete/buggy SDL/config support. When you arrange things in the GUI
monodevelop saves that to the config and on restore/restart it has
problems to apply it. Thats why deleting the monodevelop config solves
this problems.

I am downgrading this bugreport to important, because it doesn't make
the package unusable.

Bug#402625: Broken upgrade path

2006-12-11 Thread H. S. Teoh
Package: asymptote-doc
Version: 1.18-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Breaks upgrade path, should be fixed before release

I notice that asymptote has been split into two packages, asymptote and
asymptote-doc. Unfortunately, something went wrong with the split,
causing following problem when upgrading from asymptote (1.14-1):

Unpacking asymptote-doc (from .../asymptote-doc_1.18-2_all.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/asymptote-doc_1.18-2_all.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/doc-base/asymptote', which is also in package
asymptote
Preparing to replace asymptote 1.14-1 (using .../asymptote_1.18-2_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement asymptote ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/asymptote-doc_1.18-2_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Yes, except that I cut out the rotatelogs stuff from the init script because
it looked ugly. That's why the process is blocking now. What should we do
about it?

I don't like the idea of having an extra rotatelogs process to keep track of.
Perhaps the output should be sent to a regular log file, which would be
rotated normally with logrotate.

Most (all?) log messages are logged through the Tomcat logging mechanisms
anyway, and end up in various other log files. I don't know what the standard
output is good for really.

Bug#400923: (no subject)

2006-12-11 Thread Jeff Beaird

Mohammed Sameer wrote:

I had a look at the source code for gnome-terminal. gnome-terminal is setting
the
HOME environmental variable as well as some other variables. This explains why
it's
working fine with -display.

I'll work on a patch for that.

Thanks, Mohammed.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm quite sure I didn't have
this problem on another unstable machine. The machine which is having
the problem was recently installed from scratch; the other machine had
been running unstable for a couple of years, and had also been installed
from scratch.

Just can't figure out why the problem exhibited itself on one machine
more readily than another.

Thanks again,

Bug#402603: tomcat5.5: blocks on startup until log pipe is read

2006-12-11 Thread Marcus Better
Package: tomcat5.5
Version: 5.5.20-4
Severity: serious

tomcat5.5 (sometimes) blocks on startup since its standard output is
redirected to the named pipe /var/log/tomcat5.5/catalina.out, and this
blocks until the pipe is opened for reading. Thus tomcat5.5 will not
startup until the after pipe is read, even though the startup script
terminates successfully.

Removed from where? In lightspeed case the FcFinit is not called
directly but rather via gtk libraries.

I'm reassigning back to fontconfig. If the function that is calling
fontconfig should be changed, please reassign to that library.

Hello,

pilot-link 0.12.0 is now stable and available. The Debian package is
available from experimental. Before uploading it to unstable and replace
libpisock8 by libpisock9 I try to recompile every package using

Bug#372070: Seems to work here, too...

2006-12-11 Thread Fabian Fagerholm
FWIW, I can run flightgear with no problems on a 1,2GHz Pentium M
machine with 1GB of RAM. So lack of memory would be a good guess as to
why the submitter experienced this problem.

Now if I could only figure out how to fly this thing...

This is likely specific to the NVIDIA driver, but I haven't been able to
reproduce this with the NVIDIA driver and compiz 0.3.4, which will probably
be uploaded sometime soon.

However, it seems that switching to another terminal and back makes compiz
crash with the NVIDIA proprietary driver, but that's something you'll have to
take up with NVIDIA, it works fine with other open source drivers.

Bug#395252: bug 395252 & freeze

2006-12-11 Thread A Mennucc
severity 395252 important
thanks

hi

I am downgrading severity of this bug, for the sake of including MPlayer
in the Etch release. Before jumping on horses, please read the motivation.

 --

Some time ago, I proposed some options for solving this bug.

First option [O]:
compile MPlayer using FFmpeg as is currently shipped in Debian.

I tried this, and it fails: FFmpeg has had much development , and this
development is all used inside MPlayer; so compilation fails (in too
many places to make this feasible ) .

Second option [N]:
prepare new FFmpeg Debian packages, and link MPlayer to that.

Unfortunately, I tried to contact Sam many many times on this, but he
was too busy. So eventually I actually did that myself (as reported in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=395252;msg=152 )

At that time, I compiled libxine , and tested a dynamic version of
MPlayer and totem-xine and xine-ui (all using this new FFmpeg 0.svn6767)
on some files; it all worked surprisingly well.

The problem is that, I could then not proceed further:
- I did not want to upload into unstable, since
we were near freeze , and the above is a major lib upgrade
- I did not test it on all archs (I see from Sam's logs and patches
that ffmpeg did fail on arm in the past ; but many of Sam's patch
do not apply to the newer ffmpeg)
- my idea was to upload my work in experimental, to see if it would
be autobuilt correctly, and to ask for wider testing in d-devel; but
Sam did not answer me when I asked permission

I should also recall that dynamic linking of MPlayer to FFmpeg has
currently some drawbacks: MPlayer is slower; and some features of
MPlayer are disabled; so, a lot more work would be needed to really
offer a full featured dynamically linked MPlayer.

Now, freeze has come, so there is no more time to do any of the above.

 --

Please do not upgrade the severity of this bug again; you can see that I
honestly tried to address it.

Moreover, it took me almost 5 years to get MPlayer into Debian, I would
really hate to see it out of Etch.

thanks,

a.

It has been reported for several other programs -- abiword and ImageMagick,
for instance.

It's easily fixed, though; just remove the FcFini. At least that's what the
abiword people did...

Bug#401183: 401183 affects linux-image-2.6.18-3-xen-* as well

2006-12-11 Thread Robert Bihlmeyer
clone 401183 -1
reassign -1 linux-2.6 2.6.18-8
retitle -1 linux-image-2.6.18-8-xen-*.postinst not idempotent
thanks

I looked into the linux-2.6 source package (2.6.18-8), and contained xen
postinst scripts are affected.

What is the difference between "udpate-initramfs -c" and "update-initramfs
-u"? Only that the first one bugs if the initrd exists already?
