Sorry, what's the rationale of this bug being marked as 'grave'? Has this
problem been seen on any archs other than amd64, where it fails the
testsuite and therefore generates no binaries?

If all the archs where the package has been built have working binaries, I
don't see any reason why this should be treated as RC, despite amd64 being
the missing arch.

It should work now, latest CVS passes linda/lintian:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/cache/pbuilder/result$

I cannot verify that the package builds on amd64, but my pbuilder log
contains:

patches: debian/patches/00-fix-ftbfs-amd64.diff
Trying patch debian/patches/00-fix-ftbfs-amd64.diff at level 1 ... success.

I wonder about the urgency keyword though, reading:

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-Urgency

I get the impression that we could for clarity use:

gss (0.0.18-2) unstable; urgency=low (HIGH for amd64)

Is this a good idea?

In general, urgency=high seems to be for security bugs, but it is not
clear to me what would warrant urgency=medium. Is this bugs an
example? I think I'm missing some documentation for the semantics on
the urgency values.

Thanks for your help!

i've also seen a report in the cacti upstream BTS that the patches in
question break certain functionality. could you try applying the
patches and figuring out if there's an obvious fix for it? the upstream
bug report (about the regression) is:

http://bugs.cacti.net/view.php?id=890

i'll be on vacation for another week or so, so if someone hasn't taken
charge of this by the middle of next week i should be able to get a fix
out.

I have no hope of debugging this without further detail. There is no
indication here that it is dpkg that's segfaulting; it could be
something called from a maintainer script. Unless you can dig into this
I will downgrade the bug soon.

There are other files that can be exploited under certain conditions.
This post in the cacti forum has a list of the affected files:

They have also released patches for this, so is there any reason not to

How do you have firefox 2.0.0.1 installed? The only firefox Debian package
at this version is an upgrade package for iceweasel itself. Do you have
firefox installed from upstream?

If you have a version of firefox installed that breaks when iceweasel is
installed, then it appears this firefox package relies on functionality
which in Debian is under control of the iceweasel package -- that's a bug in
this firefox package, not in iceweasel, which AFAICS is well-behaved
according to Debian's rules.

--- Begin Message ---
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 7.1.0-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

when installing xserver-xorg (by way of xorg) in a newly built LTSP
chroot environment, it seems to select an arbitrary -video and -input
package. i ended up with the following video/input and nothing else:

 xserver-xorg-video-apm
 xserver-xorg-input-acecad

i suspect this is because of the recent changes to the dependencies to
try and fix #403818:

Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.1.1-11), xserver-xorg-video-1.0,
xserver-xorg-input, debconf (>= 0.5) | debconf-2.0, xkb-data |
 xkb-data-legacy, xbase-clients
Recommends: xserver-xorg-video-all | xserver-xorg-video-vesa,
 xserver-xorg-input-all | xserver-xorg-input-mouse, xserver-xorg-inpu
 t-all | xserver-xorg-input-kbd, laptop-detect, xresprobe, mdetect,
 discover1 | discover

this allows any package providing xserver-xorg-video-1.0 to satisfy the
dependency. same for xserver-xorg-input. if using apt-get, it will not
typically consider the recommends, and apt appears to arbitrarily select
whichever package it comes across first that satisfies the dependency.

i suspect the following would be better:

Depends: ... xserver-xorg-video-all | xserver-xorg-video-vesa |
xserver-xorg-video-1.0, xserver-xorg-input-all | xserver-xorg-input-mouse |
xserver-xorg-input, xserver-xorg-input-all | xserver-xorg-input-kbd |
xserver-xorg-input ...

this will default to using -video-all, fall back to -video-vesa, and
allow anything providing -video-1.0 to satisfy the dependency.

similar with -input, though the above still could leave you with only
one of -mouse or -kbd. i have no idea how to get that perfectly while
still allowing for unusual -input configurations.

thanks!

live well,
  vagrant

Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-9
Severity: critical
Justification: startup fails

I just dist-upgraded from woody to etch. When I tried to start X, I got:

failed to load module kbd

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg did not help at all. Manually installing the
needed drivers for my system (xserver-xorg-video-i810 and
xserver-xorg-input-kbd) and *then* running dpkg-reconfigure helped.

Indeed, it looks like only the 48x48 icon is available. Is there an
option for choosing the icon size maybe?

Bug#406145: iceweasel: renders firefox 2.0.0.1 unable to resolve addresses, breaks dns

2007-01-08 Thread Mihaly Bak
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.1+dfsg-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

I do periodical dist-upgrades and after the last one that upgraded Iceweasel I
started to have problems. This upgrade seams to have broken mozilla
firefox 2.0.0.1 abitity to resolve addresses. If I type an IP into firefox it
works fine or if the sites IP is in my /etc/hosts it works too.

But firefox seams to be unable to resolve IPs on its own.

This should rather be removed entirely:
- Last maintainer upload in 2003

Indeed, I tried to contact the maintainer a few months ago because
there's a problem under Ubuntu (xinetd and xteld issues, relatively easy
to fix & a bug has been filed on
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xtel/+bug/57303/) but I
never got a reply (and no error message either).

- Minitel has ceased commercial operation according to Wikipedia
  end of 2006:

Yes, but this is an error, I'll have to correct it in Wikipedia. The
international access from http://www.minitelfr.com has ceased for
individuals, but in France, the Minitel network has still around 5
millions of Terminals and as much of emulators and it is still working.
Let alone these commercial services, there are still home run BBS-like
services, as an example see http://eureka.rxl1.com , where Xtel is
explicitly mentioned as a client for an access *via Internet*. So, IMHO,
Xtel shouldn't be removed any time soon. At worst, contact its author at
http://www.emulateur-xtel.org ...

Bug#400066: Bugfix from upstream

2007-01-08 Thread Robert Buchholz
This bug was fixed upstream, so lcdproc can again build from source in
ppc(64).

Nevertheless, I won't reopen the bug, as removing ppc from supported
arches is a fix, too. If you want to try, a patch against vanilla 0.5.1
is included.

Regards,

Robert Buchholz
This patch fixes compilation errors with hardware that does not have a parallel
port. It was proposed by serialVFD driver author Stefan Herdler and accepted
upstream for the next release.

Bug#405921: NMU uploaded

Thank you for your help. But...

For the record, let me explain the situation. There are two different
code bases:
1.2: etch (testing)
1.2+cvs20061228: unstable

The bug #405921 is in 1.2+cvs20061228 (unstable), but not in 1.2.

> -Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 4.0.0), ruby, ruby1.8-dev (>= 1.8.1),
libdb4.2-ruby1.8, libzlib-ruby1.8, libwebrick-ruby1.8, libiconv-ruby1.8,
libstrscan-ruby1.8
> +Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 4.0.0), ruby, ruby1.8-dev (>= 1.8.1),
libdb4.2-ruby1.8, libzlib-ruby1.8, libwebrick-ruby1.8, libiconv-ruby1.8,
libstrscan-ruby1.8, ruby, flex

1.2-1 is fine for testing. In version 1.2, its Build-Depends is
correct. It includes ruby, and its build doesn't require flex.

Please check the autobuilder log of 1.2-1. It's fine for
all eleven architectures. http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=gonzui

For 1.2+cvs20061228, it was fixed before your non maintainer upload.
I think that you did it at the same time.

So, 1.2-1.1 for testing is not needed. It does no harm, so, it's OK
etch has 1.2-1.1.

Thanks for your cooperation,

This might well indicate a bug in dpkg(/apt), but it seems likely that
ssh is twiddling too many maintscript things, or incorrectly.

I think the config.log file wasn't really useful. Anyway, I've ran
things manually and got:
gst-inspect-0.10 gnomevfssink

(gst-inspect-0.10:30072): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: Unable to create
~/.gnome2 directory: No such file or directory

(gst-inspect-0.10:30072): GStreamer-WARNING **: Problem writing registry

(gst-inspect-0.10:30071): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: Unable to create
~/.gnome2 directory: No such file or directory
No such element or plugin 'gnomevfssink'

Note that ~ doesn't exist. Please don't try to write anything in the
buildd's home directory.

Sure - looks like the issue is with -ansi. Resyncing your CFLAGS
with the current upstream Makefile will solve it.

Thank you for the NMU. As you've probably noticed, there's been almost
no activity on tcptrace since I first added it to Debian. I'm probably
going to orphan it in the near future, as I don't really use it at all
these days. I probably should have orphaned it a long time ago in order
to give somebody else a chance to adopt it and properly maintain it for
etch.

Let me know if you're interested in taking over responsibility for the
package.

If possible yes... I suspect that this was caused by liboil in some way.

The change I did (and that did work) was only a workaround to remove
these unecessary checks for gstreamer elements that only break from time
to time ;)

Bug#406128: libc6-i686: xmms mplayer alsaplayer and maybe others segfault

2007-01-08 Thread aldo
Package: libc6-i686
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

-- System Information:
Debian Release: 4.0

  APT policy: (500, 'testing')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-686
Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15)

it is quite a while that mplayer kept segfaulting, i didn't bother too
much because i'm used to problems with that program which are generally
settled in a short period, but some days ago i noticed that xmms and
alsaplayer segfaulted as well.
it is not a real problem because this is my home server and i use the
other pc's to listen to music and play videos, but i wished to find out
the reason of it.
if i ran ldd of the executables i got (e.g. alsaplayer):
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ldd /usr/bin/alsaplayer
linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xe000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7f67000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0xb7f63000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb7e7e000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0xb7e59000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb7e4e000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7d1b000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f8b000)

the only strange line (at least for me) was the last one and it was the
same running ldd of the three programs
that lib is a symlink to ld-2.3.6.so
dpkg -S ld-2.3.6.so showed that this library is included both in libc6 and
libc6-i686 (which i installed because it is reccomended by recent 2.6.x
kernels)

i ran ldconfig which gave the following output:
topolino:/etc# ldconfig -v |grep -i ld-linux.so.2
ldconfig: Cannot stat /usr/lib/libgthumb-2.6.9.so: No such file or
directory
ldconfig: Cannot stat /usr/lib64/libg2c.so: No such file or directory
/lib/ld-linux.so.2:
ld-linux.so.2 -> ld-2.3.6.so
ld-linux.so.2 -> ld-2.3.6.so

but it did not solve the problem

eventually i have decided to uninstall either libc6 or libc6-i686,
obviously i chose the second which apparently is just recommended by the
latest kernels

now xmms, alsaplayer and mplayer work flawlessly

thanks
aldo

The attached patch fixes the build both on sparc and ia64 architectures,
i.e. works fine with align-requiriging, big-endian and 64bits
architectures, so should be fine for others.

Thanks, I just worked out an alternative patch which I have tested on
HPPA, but yours looks more safe.
Unfortunately I have _just_ uploaded it. If my patch do not work out
on 64-bit, I will revert and use yours. And I will pass it upstream
anyways.

The attached patch fixes the build both on sparc and ia64 architectures,
i.e. works fine with align-requiriging, big-endian and 64bits
architectures, so should be fine for others.

Bug#405268: NMU diff

2007-01-08 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Hi!

Yes, I was wrong. And Laurent was almost right on adding a build-depends
on file. :-)
tcptrace uses debmake to builds the package, BUT, it's not declaring a
build-depends on it.

Including a build-depends on debmake fix this bug (since it depends on
file).

(I know that it's deprecated to use debmake to build a package, but
NMU changes are only targeted to fix important things. Updating the
package to use another build system doesn't fit on a NMU (my opinion)).

Below is my NMU diff that I will upload.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Thanks, I also noticed this already... but I can't reproduce this here

I'd like to have your and/or David's OK before uploading that, though.

I agree that breaking upgrades from backports of from pre-release etch

although I haven't tested that yet).

not in the supported architecture list in debian/control). So here's the

So what should be done with this bug? Should it be merged with bug #405639?
Do you think it needs to be treated as RC independently of bug #405639?
(FWIW, I don't; smooth upgrades from unofficial backports are absolutely not
RC in my book.)

thanks

Hi,

I know this mail sucks (like this whole bug) but looking at the relevant
KDE bugreport, I really doubt that this bug is fixed.

  http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104956

I'm not using KMail anymore so I can't give any first hand information,
but I'm still following the relevant KDE bugreports and It simply looks
like this bug is not fixed.

Why was it closed anyway? Looks like upstreams bugreport is still open too.

Cheers,

Bastian

I think we've been fence-sitting on this long enough.

Most of the time, timestamp race condition bugs will affect certain kernels
or architectures with a high probability because the filesystem's timestamp
resolution is high enough that a clock cycle is a significant fraction of
it. That doesn't seem to be the case here, with the /possible/ exception of
m68k; on all other archs, the probability of hitting the race is low enough
that working around it by retrying the package is trivial.

So I think downgrading the bug is ok here, with an "rc-m68k" usertag because
of the uncertainty on that arch.

Thanks,

OK, I just reproduced this:
on upgrade from sarge + xorg 6.9 backport (didn't try with plain sarge),
based on Olaf's installed package list, aptitude pulls in
xserver-xorg-input-acecad and fglrx-driver instead of
xserver-xorg-input-all and xserver-xorg-video-all :(
This system also had a backported apt and aptitude, so that might play a
role here.

But if I add "deb http://people.debian.org/~jcristau/xorg/ ./" to
sources.list, the metapackages are pulled in (these packages are built
with the change I made to the repo, which is to readd the metapackages
alternatives to the depends).
My understanding is that aptitude doesn't pull in recommends when
upgrading a package (here xserver-xorg), which would explain why the
upgrade from backports breaks. Also, it would seem that etch's (and
backport.org's) aptitude only pulls in one package to satisfy a virtual
dependency, while my earlier testing suggested that sarge's aptitude
pulled in all drivers.

Hope this helps,
Julien

The old version has been removed from Etch today, so it won't be shipped
when Etch will be stable. We now can try if and how we can get a working

Bug#395034: bug #395034 is neither RC bug nor bug at all

2007-01-08 Thread Michael Hanke
Hi,

I investigated on bug #395034, but could not reproduce it. I built the latest
sources in the archive, but they do not show the bug and the built packages are
perfectly installable.

No version available from snapshot.debian.net has this bug, so I'm not sure
where it came from in the first place.

However, looking at

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelist&word=python-4suite-xml&version=unstable&arch=amd64&page=2&number=50

and

http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelist&word=python-4suite-rdf&version=unstable&arch=amd64

the problem is visible.

So apparently the binaries in the archive are buggy and it looks like
simply rebuilding the package solves the problem. I have no idea what
caused this bug though.

Taking a closer look I saw that amd64 is the only arch that is affected
by this bug. I guess amd64 was the arch of the initial upload and
something was wrong with the build system. However a simple rebuilt
solves the problem. I tested building the package on amd64 -- valid
packages.

Could you please upload binary packages for amd64 to close this RC
bug.

Thanks,

Michael

Thanks,

Michael

When starting up any video the browser does no download but only shows
a blackblank page opened with a "(no video)" message. This is the same
for mp3 or sound files.

I have this problem approximately for a month now (after an vlc update
but I am not shure which version change it was) with firefox 1.5.0.7
and the actual iceweasel and also with no plugins installed.

Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6-svn20061012.debian-1
Severity: critical
Tags: security
Justification: root security hole

Description:
Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in VideoLAN VLC, which could be
exploited by attackers to take complete control of an affected system. These
issues
are due to format string errors in the "cdio_log_handler()" and
"vcd_log_handler()" functions that call "msg_Dbg()", "msg_Warn()", and
"msg_Err()" in an insecure
manner, which could be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary
commands by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted web page or
opening a
malicious M3U playlist.

Affected:
VideoLAN VLC version 0.8.6 and prior

Solution:
A fix is available via SVN :

The file /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/components/vlcintf.xpt is apparently
non-existent since all it is is a relative symbolic link to vlcintf.xpt in the
/usr/lib/mozilla/components directory which is NOT provided by this package.

e.g.

$ ls -l /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/components/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 2006-12-13 21:16 vlcintf.xpt ->
../../mozilla/components/vlcintf.xpt

The above is a broken symbolic link since this package does NOT provide
vlcintf.xpt in /usr/lib/mozilla/components:

$ dpkg -L  mozilla-plugin-vlc

/usr/share/doc

This is probably the source of all the outstanding bugs for this package these
past few months.

I agree for the most part. But if you think this bug shouldn't be fixed
for etch, I think it either needs to be marked as non release critical
or it should be tagged etch-ignore.

I've CC'd the release team, to get their input on it.

Anyway, the only reason I see that we want to fix it in etch now is that
in case we later want a new version of tar in etch we don't get hit by
the problem.

Bug#403639: Fix committed in svn repo

2007-01-08 Thread Attilio Fiandrotti

Hi

Just wanted to say the patch was eventually committed to gnome svn [1]:
i tried a backport to our 2.8.20 but was unable to due to that complex
set of patches already present :(
Would be possible building an experimental 2-8-20 udeb with this patch
to see what its effects are?

thanks

Attilio

Package: kdepim
Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-4
Severity: serious

Since January 3 kdepim fails to build from source. It build-depends on
libmal-dev and the package libmal has been removed from the archive.
According to
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/10/msg00702.html
one has to remove the build-dependency on libmal-dev and we are all set.

Quim

Bug#403381: Crashes the moment the "browser" menu item is touched

2007-01-08 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky
I noticed that this bug was also accompanied by other new behavior.
Usually, when I would start up, I would get a dialog box telling me that
this version of Eclipse did not support integrated browsing.

That dialog box is gone.

On the other hand, that led me to attempt to set which browser Eclipse
uses. When I go to Window -> Web Browser, Eclipse crashes immediately
with the stated error message.

If anyone could tell me how to reset the browser preferences via text
editor, I would appreciate it. The preferences are not in ~/.eclipserc
or in ~/.eclipse/[.]eclpliserc, or any place else I've looked. I'm sure
I'll find it, but as a kindness -- now that my coding has stopped due to
this bug -- perhaps someone can spare me a couple of hours of searching
for the right config file.

I've just triggered a rebuild on pkg-voip which will yield a version
0.7.1-2~$dist.2612+b1 where $dist is whatever you selected from the
archive (pkg-voip.buildserver.net).

Can you try with this version if that rebuild fixes your problem
already? The packs should be available on the public webspace from about
16:20 on.

Thanks!

libstdc++6-dev (1) does not exist, and (2) libstdc++6-$mumble-dev is
build-essential, and need not be in build-depends. Please drop that
build dependency.

Bug#403381: Bug causes data loss as well

2007-01-08 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky
As of this morning, after a apt-get dist-upgrade, I've run into this
problem as well. That upgrade included the latest iceape mozilla
distribution.

Eclipse starts; I edit and *save* after each paragraph I edit. I then
will suddenly get a crash. When I re-start eclipse, the edits that I
saved are gone, which puzzles me to no end. Who is changing data already
saved to disk, how, and why?

If there's a work-around for this problem, please post it.

seems to offer some sort of solution but I was unable to understand it.

Bug#404563: May I upload dfsbuild to testing-proposed-updates?

2007-01-08 Thread John Goerzen
Hello,

I have prepared an update to dfsbuild that fixes 2 RC bugs: #404563 and
#404555.

Due to Haskell library changes in sid that weren't ready in time for
etch, this package will not be buildable in sid.

Therefore, my understanding is that I need to upload dfsbuild 0.99.3 to
testing-proposed-updates.

Is that OK with you?

Thanks,
