Bug#407185: Looking for a host to access to fix FTBFS

2007-01-17 Thread Kobayashi Noritada
Hi,

 I'm looking for a host to build my package `serf' on since buildd
 shows building that package from source fails on m68k. I'd like to
 have the FTBFS fixed and I have tried writing a patch, but there are
 no m68k machines to test around me...

I've filed the FTBFS as a bug report:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=407185

 I am not an official DD yet, only in the NM stage. Do you have some
 machines for me to access?

Or, could you please check if serf 0.1.0-2~pre1 available from
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/serf
can be built on m68k machines without error or not?

Thanks,

-nori

Bug#407250: mysql-ruby: binNMU needed to catch new symbols in libmysqlclient15-dev

2007-01-17 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: libmysql-ruby1.8
Version: 2.7.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

With libmysql-ruby1.8 2.7.1-1 (version in testing), with:

require 'dbi'
dbh = DBI.connect('DBI:MSQL:db','user','password')
dbh.select_all('SELECT clusterName, count(*)/2 from clusters group by
clusterName') { |r| p r }

I get (on i386):

/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/DBD/Mysql/Mysql.rb:649:in `column_info': undefined method
`[]' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError)
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/DBD/Mysql/Mysql.rb:648:in `each'

from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbi.rb:480:in `execute'
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbi.rb:511:in `select_all'

Instead of:

[sagittaire, 0.5000]

This is caused by the fact that libmysql-ruby1.8 2.7.1-1 was compiled against
an old version of libmysqlclient*-dev, missing types for some float fields
(count(*)/2 generates a float).

Rebuilding the package fixes the problem, so a binNMU should be enough. I'm
not sure if all archs are affected, or just i386 (the package was built and
uploaded on i386 by the maintainer).

The version in unstable (2.7.3-1) is not affected.

I have not tried to reproduce this problem directly with libmysql-ruby (I'm
using DBI).

 I noticed the above package upgrades are for the i386 architecture. Is
 the fix being
 ported to the alpha architecture as well?

No port is necessary as such. The autobuilders will pick the package up
and upload it, though the alpha one seems to be a bit behind right now
so I don't know how soon that will be. Normally it would only be a day
extra.

Bug#407260: No sane upgrade path from etch to lenny

2007-01-17 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
Package: mailman
Version: 1:2.1.9-4
Severity: serious
Justification: Makes package unsuitable for release in one maintainer's opinion

We should sort that out before release; if RMs disagree (e.g. punt it
to a point release), feel free to tag etch-ignore and/or downgrade
severity so as not to block release just for that.

If other pkg-mailman members disagree, feel free to discuss.

--
Lionel
---BeginMessage---
Hi,

Assuming lenny will have Mailman 2.2, if we want to have an upgrade
path from etch to lenny, we better backport that bin/export to 2.1.9
and get it in etch (so that we can call it from mailman 2.2's preinst
script). Alternatively, we package mailman 2.2 as mailman2.2 and let
mailman be 2.1.x and not handle automatic upgrades at all. I must
say I'd prefer the first solution.

Someone feels up to doing that in time for etch, that is very, very,
soon?

In the meantime, I'm contacting the RMs to see what our options are.

Hat: maintainer of Mailman package in Debian

Hi,

It has just come to my attention that there will be no upgrade path
from the version of Mailman in etch at this time (2.1.9) to the
version lenny will most probably have (2.2.x), but there will be an
upgrade path from the yet-unreleased 2.1.y, y9, to 2.2.x, and an
upgrade path from 2.1.9 to 2.1.y.

The reason is a fundamental file format change in how data is stored;
mailman 2.1.10 will have an export binary that will export the data
to a neutral (XML) format and Mailman 2.2 will have an import binary
that will import that format. We can do the export in preinst and
the import in postinst, but only if the package being upgraded from
contains that bin/export/.

(Shipping the said bin/export as part of the Mailman 2.2 package will
 be highly inconvenient; it is a python script that imports a
 significant part of Mailman itself; we'd have to basically ship a
 private copy of Mailman 2.1 in the Mailman 2.2 package.)

My question is: Will you accept a freeze-exception update to mailman,
or a point-release update to mailman later, to add the said bin/export
to the etch package of mailman 2.1?

Even if we include the current version of bin/export (from their SVN
repository, the 2.1.x branch) in the etch-mailman package, there is a
non-zero risk that the said XML format will change and that we will
need to update it in a point release of etch to ensure an upgrade path
to lenny.

2007-01-17 Thread jozi

kwalletmanager doesn't save changed or new passwords anymore, see

this is not only a debian-problem, seems like it applies on kde 3.5.4 to

on bugs.kde.org seems to be no reaction about this bug for three months,
and as a walletmanager that forgets every new or changed password is
rather unusable, i decided to report that bug here, too.

Bug#407132: hal: Circumvents invoke-rc.d (and thus policy-rc.d) in postinst

2007-01-17 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

Michael Biebl wrote:
 I agree with Sjoerd. It's definitely not an RC bug.

Why?

Lack of solution is not an argument for lowering severity.

 If you want to control the starting of hal via policy-rc.d, you have to
 do that indirectly via the dbus init script.

How?

On a system with policy-d responding errorcode 101 always, the hal
daemon is started on package update.

 We are basically bound by the limitations of our current init system.

I agree. Which means this bug stays open, not that severity is low.

 As hal depends on dbus, it has to be restarted/stopped when dbus is
 restarted/stopped. That's why we came up with the solution we have now.
 Having the hal start script installed as init script in /etc/init.d/
 would cause more problems than it would solve.

I agree that the current approach is better for most cases, and I do not
suggest to change to a simpler approach.

But still, the current approach does not follow policy, and it does
cause real harm for some.

 I don't agree that this issue is RC. It does not match any of the
 criteria.

 1) This issue does not actually break anything. It just makes it
 impossible to make use of an optional feature (software RAID) during
 installation.

 2) The issue affects only a limited group of users as it is architecture
 specific: software RAID support in partman works just fine on at least
 i386, amd64, sparc and hppa. I'm not sure about other architectures, but
 at least we have no reports of breakage there.

AIUI, this bug does make partman-md unusable for most powerpc users, who can
only use powermac partition tables for compatibility with their firmware.
That alone, IMHO, qualifies it as an RC bug; if a package is built and
unusable on a given arch, it has a grave bug on that arch. Being
arch-specific is not a reason to discount a bug as non-RC.

Separately, I feel that md support is important enough to enough users that
I would not be comfortable releasing an installer with etch that couldn't
handle software raid at install time; I imagine you would agree that if this
happened to the installer as a whole, it would be an unacceptable regression
against sarge and therefore unreleasable. I think for the same reason that
we shouldn't be too hasty to release with md support broken on one of our
release archs.

 3) There is no regression, or at least, I do not see how there can be as
 software RAID support and general partman code has not been touched at
 that level during Etch development. This rather looks like an incomplete
 implementation of software RAID support for this particular architecture.
 As such, and since there currently (unfortunately) is no lead partman
 maintainer, it is primarily the responsibility of the PowerPC community
 to provide the missing bits and pieces needed to implement the support.

That it's the responsibility of the powerpc porters to fix it doesn't make
it less of an RC bug.

Thanks,

Wouter,

could you try rebuilding glide with -fno-strict-aliasing? I have attached a
diff that patches debian/rules to add that to CFLAGS. This is mainly just
guessing but the same solution did fix a similar bug in mesa recently.

If that doesn't work, perhaps you could try to get a backtrace of running one
of the segfaulting binaries against a non-stripped glide library (i.e.
rebuild with something like DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip debuild).

Bug#405006: libgphoto2: mistake in udev rules gives permissions to non-gphoto2 devices

2007-01-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Frederic,

On Fri, Jan 12, 2007 at 04:30:21PM +0100, Frederic Peters wrote:
  Package: libgphoto2-2
  Version: 2.2.1-12
  Severity: grave

  In /etc/udev/libgphoto2_generic_ptp_support.rules, there is the following
  rule:

  ACTION==add, SUBSYSTEM==usb_device, ENV{INTERFACE}=6/1/1, \
PROGRAM=/bin/sh -c 'K=%k; K=$${K#usbdev}; printf bus/usb/%%03i/%%03i
  $${K.*} $${K#*.}', \
NAME=%c, MODE=0660, GROUP=plugdev

  The single = sign after ENV{INTERFACE} means that the INTERFACE environment
  variable is set, not queried. The result is that all USB devices, and not
  only the PTP ones, are set to the plugdev group, thus giving some users
  access to devices they should not have access to.

  Suggested fix: put two equals signs

 Sorry I could not handle this earlier. Unfortunately putting two
 equal signs doesn't work.

 Unfortunately while I thought I finally managed to get a udev rule
 working for generic PTP cameras, it appears it is broken and I can
 only suggest I remove it. This will be a regression with regards
 to Sarge where hotplug was used but I can't see any other mean.

 vorlon: would such an upload have chances to get into etch ?

I'm actually fairly disinclined to accept this change for etch since as you
mention it is a regression, and moreover I haven't heard anything back from
the bug submitter about what actually gets broken on his system with this
bug since it works for me.

Now, the package you've uploaded to unstable seems to offer an alternative
fix, but I have some trouble understanding it so I'm still hesitant to
accept it into etch. How does print-camera-list.c interface with udev to
trigger calling check_ptp_camera?

Anyway, without an explanation of what devices will actually be affected by
this bug in practice, I'm inclined to downgrade the bug; that doesn't mean
your bugfix won't be accepted in etch, but of course it would make doing so
a lower priority, and weight the risk of regressions more heavily.

BTW, I'm pretty sure $( file) isn't POSIX sh, so check_ptp_camera shouldn't
have /bin/sh listed as the interpreter.

Cloning your report to cdebconf-gtk-udeb for this issue.

This issue may a bit more subtle than this: the frontend may just be
setting a proper default for the question. However, this is still not
desired behavior when GoBack is used.

Ok, i've already seen this before and even filed a BR (#395489).
For single SELECT and MULTISELECT questions, which are all dislayed
using a GtkTreeView, the question's value gets set in debconf database
every time the user clicks/moves on a row.

As a result, the last activated option is always made default for SELECT
questions, no matter the user pressed Back.

This was considered a minor bug, so never spent time in fixing it:
should i do it now ?

cheers

 I did answer to that, you probably missed it: if affects the raw USB devices

 By the way, I do not understand why Frederic Peters told that putting two
 equal signs doesn't work: it seems to work fine here.

It doesn't set appropriate group for devices which are PTP cameras but
not explicitely known by libgphoto2.

 Now, the package you've uploaded to unstable seems to offer an alternative
 fix, but I have some trouble understanding it so I'm still hesitant to
 accept it into etch. How does print-camera-list.c interface with udev to
 trigger calling check_ptp_camera?

/etc/udev/rules.d/025_libghoto2.rules has this line:
  PROGRAM=check_ptp_camera 06/01/01, MODE=0660, GROUP=plugdev
which will be called for every USB devices plugged in.

This script will return 0 if the device has a camera PTP interface and
udev would then give the appropriate group.

It is part of upstream 2.3.1 release and has been tested by Marcus
Meissner for SuSE and Martin Pitt for Ubuntu.

I believe things such as crypto USB devices would be affected by the
bug.

 BTW, I'm pretty sure $( file) isn't POSIX sh, so check_ptp_camera shouldn't
 have /bin/sh listed as the interpreter.

I'll have that fixed.

That would be a problem, indeed. I do not have any of those myself, so I can
not test. But I use the following rule for udev:

$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/000_log.rules
PROGRAM=/bin/sh -c '{ date; env; echo; }  /dev/hotplug.log 21'

(having a log file in /dev is quite ugly, but it is the only filesystem that
I know will always be mounted read-write before udev starts doing its work)

With that, you can easily look if $INTERFACE is really what you expect it to
be.

I'm not saying there is not a bug here, but i have read the upstream report

-could you attach your .kde/share/config/kwalletrc? (it does not contain

Bug#407308: gnustep-gui-runtime: The gnustep_sndd tool is not built; missing build-depends on portaudio19-dev

2007-01-17 Thread Yavor Doganov
Package: gnustep-gui-runtime
Version: 0.11.0-2
Severity: serious

Hubert, if you think this is not important enough and does not deserve
such a harsh severity, please downgrade.

The configure script checks for the presence of portaudio19 headers
and the variable BUILD_GSND remains empty (as if --disable-gsnd was
passed) if they're missing on the system. Please build-depend on
portaudio19-dev in order to fix this.

The second issue is that the init script is not being installed (and
as a result the daemon not started). This is easily solved by
renaming gnustep-gui-common.gnustep_sndd(.in) to
gnustep-gui-runtime.gnustep_sndd(.in) and also
s/gnustep-gui-common/gnustep-gui-runtime in the relevant snippet under
the deb-scripts target in debian/rules.

[I won't attach a patch as the diff is large due to the renaming, and
because you might want to fix this in a better way.]

Thanks for considering.

Bug#407260: [Pkg-mailman-hackers] Bug#407260: No sane upgrade path from etch to lenny

2007-01-17 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi Lionel,

 We should sort that out before release; if RMs disagree (e.g. punt it
 to a point release), feel free to tag etch-ignore and/or downgrade
 severity so as not to block release just for that.

 If other pkg-mailman members disagree, feel free to discuss.

Well, I do not agree that this is release critical in the sense that if
it isn't fixed, mailman should be removed. That would break upgrades
immediately instead of possibly in the future.

That said, it is still a very important problem to solve. I see the
following possible solutions:

1.) Include bin/export in mailman now, and perhaps update it in a
point release if necessary. I think adding the extra binary
does not incurr much breakage chance, but would make an upgrade
path still possible.

2.) Provide the 2.2.x branch as mailman2.2 in Lenny, and keep the
mailman package at 2.1.x. This would mean a lot more security
support, but it would work for the upgrade path.

I think at this point we need to know whether the RM's will allow a new
upload with the current bin/export added.

thanks.
Thijs

We have built a new kdelibs package with a workaround for this problem.
Could you try if it works for you?

The *.debs are at http://people.debian.org/~ana/kwallet-407272/

You can install manually them or just add in your sources list:
deb http://people.debian.org/~ana/kwallet-407272/ ./

update and install.

We have not managed to reproduce the problem, but we have added a patch
that forces kwallermanager to save every time you add a new password.
Even if the affected package is kwalletmanager, this code needs to be in
kdelibs.

It would probably be considered wishlist, but I don't mind having a

Ah! Portaudio 19 is in Debian now! Last time I checked, it wasn't in

  The current situation is problematic for two reasons:
  - a lot of people think that epiphany should be installed by default
and the default browser
  - the default gnome-panel and preferred applications reference epiphany
which currently doesn't get installed

It's never been the intention not to install epiphany. If this is
broken, it will be fixed ASAP. And gnome should use its standard browser
as the default in Debian.

(The fact that the desktop task keeps breaking during the freeze is
not making me very happy, BTW.)

  I deliberately list two browsers as my first choice, but I don't
  actually use any of the two: I use Galeon. :) I do think Epiphany
  makes sense as the default browser, but IceWeasel should be easily
  accessible for people used to Firefox.

The intention of installing firefox has always been that, since 90% of
the even semi-technical users out there know about firefox and it's currently
extremely popular, users will be pleased to see it available on their
their desktop. I am so far unsure if this applies once it's been
renamed to a name that many users will be unfamiliar with, but until I
get feedback from users, I won't know. (I have no feedback yet, since
firefox is still in etch, and iceweasel is not yet in etch.)

Hello,
I was using module-assistant to compile drbd0.7 on Debian's 2.6.18-3 on
etch (current, dist-upgtaded today). but the compile step failed. I
switched to drbd0.8 which compiled fine with the same procedure.

This is the kernel im question:
# dpkg --get-selections |grep linux-.*-2.6.18.*
linux-headers-2.6.18-3  install
linux-headers-2.6.18-3-686  install
linux-image-2.6.18-3-686install
linux-kbuild-2.6.18 install

 Then the problem is ia32-libs-gtk's, not libgtk2.0-0's. There's no way it's
 an RC bug in gtk that you've repackaged it in a way that doesn't work.

ia32-libs-gtk does contain the libgtk2.0-0.deb, the precompiled binary
from i386. The source (included for GPL compliance only) is not and
can not be compiled so it can't be patched.

We could ship a patched precompiled libgtk2.0-0.deb but I think that
would be a very bad idea.

So back to libgtk2.0-0 with this bug. Patch below.

To get ia32-libs-gtk working properly chunks 1+2 of the patch need to
be applied. Chunks 3+4 just round things up by allowing the admin and
user to have different gtkrc files if they so choose.

Goswin

 Re: Re: Bug#407272: kwalletmanager: doesn't save any changed or new

 We have built a new kdelibs package with a workaround for this problem.
 Could you try if it works for you?

 The *.debs are at http://people.debian.org/~ana/kwallet-407272/

 We have not managed to reproduce the problem, but we have added a patch
 that forces kwallermanager to save every time you add a new password.
 Even if the affected package is kwalletmanager, this code needs to be in
 kdelibs.

hm, looks like the patched kdelibs work twice, after installation the
passwords where saved correctly, and after reinstallation of the old
kdelibs (plus the other two packages) the problem seems to have
disappeared... kwalletrc has not changed in the meantime.

This is really weird. The only explanation i can find is that you have the
problem in another place and it was affecting kwallet.

I'm downgrading the bug and removing the forward to upstream, because i do not
think this is the same problem. The workaround of close manually the wallet or
run dcop kded kwalletd closeAllWallets worked in all the other cases but not
in yours.
I'll keep the bug open for a few days. Please tell us if you get the problem
again or it keeps working fine.

---BeginMessage---
Package: kvm
Version: 7-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The version of kvm currently in testing, kvm-7, has many known stability bugs
that have
been fixed in later upstream versions. These cause the guest operating system
to crash,
possibly causing data loss etc. The following Google search provides a brief
overview of
the number of patches and severity of these bugs, of which none is entered in
the Debian
BTS:

http://www.google.com/search?q=linux-kernel+PATCH+KVM+%22Avi+Kivity%22+site%3Alkml.org

Another factor is that the current maintainer is currently sick. I have been
in touch with
him and prepared an upgraded package [1] based on the current upstream kvm-11,
which could
in theory be used for Etch, but Etch is of course frozen. The amount of changes
in
upstream is big by release standards.

I see two solutions (both are fine with me):

1) Remove kvm-7 from Etch

or 2) Upgrade kvm to kvm-11, if okayed by the release team and pending
sponsoring

(While not really a factor in the decision, kvm-11 also includes major
performance
improvements, the MMU optimization, described as the difference between a
working proof
of concept and a generally usable system [2] The last patch set [3] fixes the
known
problems exposed by the MMU optimization and is included in kvm-11, although
not yet
applied in Linux-2.6.20-rc5.)

[1] My kvm-11 package will be uploaded to mentors.debian.net today or tomorrow
for
review and sponsoring.

Version: 11-1

kvm (11-1) unstable; urgency=high

  * New upstream version. Closes #406800, #406275, #404075.
  * This version fixes many stability issues in earlier versions of KVM.
  * Automatically create group kvm on installation of package kvm
  * Added udev support to automatically set group kvm on /dev/kvm
  * Added reportbug script (/usr/share/bug/kvm) so some info that
might be relevant gets included automatically.
  * Tell module-assistant about the kvm-source package, so it shows up
in the module selection menu.
  * Add information on building the modules using module-assistant.
  * Add /etc/kvm/kvm-ifup script (conffile) to bring up the network for
the VM in a simpler way, see the manual page for kvm for description.
This used to be /etc/qemu-ifup, as installed by the qemu package.
  * Depend on iproute, bridge-utils, used by kvm-ifup and the upcoming
/etc/init.d script.
  * Remove non-x86 bios images - KVM is only meaningful for x86 guests.
  * Keep KVM bios files in /usr/share/kvm, rather than sharing them with
other packages as the KVM bios is different (also avoids unexpected
bios updates).
  * Don't depend on qemu, as we now keep our own bios.
  * Recommend kvm-source, qemu (mostly for qemu-img), vde2 and linux-image-2.6.
  * Suggest sudo and debootstrap.
  * For kvm-source, depend on linux-headers-2.6 | linux-source-2.6,
recommend linux-image-2.6 and suggest module-assistant and
kernel-package.
  * Use quilt to handle patches.
  * More detailed package description for kvm, added Homepage:.

  Oh, sorry, it's failing to build for ppc. :-/

  Anyway, it seems the problem can be reproduced between different 2.6.18

  config items cause the problem. :-/

Ok, no problems for the kernel.

Just a moment: you tell that this problem seems to arise just with
2.6.18 kernel, but I had the same problem even with Ubuntu 2.6.17 kernel
(installed by default using last ubuntu 6.10 ppc cdrom)... can it be an
useful information for you?

Anyway, let me know if additional tests are needed/possible and, by my

For starters, let's document that the bug is fixed in the sid version.
After that, we can consider whether the new upstream version is appropriate
to let into etch; it seems to have been uploaded before the freeze, so would
be a candidate for a freeze exception even though it's a new upstream
version.

Bug#407329: emacs-snapshot: emacs should make a backup for every file by default

2007-01-17 Thread Vincent Lefevre
On 2007-01-17 21:18:53 +0100, Romain Francoise wrote:
 Backups are disabled in working copies because it's annoying to keep
 backup versions when the same information is recorded in the version
 control system...

As I explained, this is not the same information, because of
intermediate (non-committed) contents. Anyway, there could be an
option to remove the backups once the files have been committed.

 The use case you describe of someone who does significant amounts of
 work in a working copy but doesn't have write access is pretty
 unusual in my experience, and in this case users can just set
 `vc-make-backup-files' to t.

In my experience, users don't always do a commit just after editing a
file. And backups are precisely important when many changes have been
done on a file.

 I'd also like to note that relying on Emacs to backup important
 information is unwise -- unless you set `version-control' to t,
 you'll have only one backup and it gets overwritten every time you
 visit the file:

You missed the point. Emacs does that on *every* file. So, there is
no surprise concerning this behavior. This is not the case with the
behavior on version-control files; there is not a single warning
from Emacs.

 killing the buffer and reopening the file is enough to lose your
 only backup.

This is suboptimal. One shouldn't lose a backup until the buffer is
modified and saved. And before modifying, one generally has the time
to notice that the data are incorrect (e.g. after a svn revert in
the wrong directory...).

 P.S.: You might like to know that Emacs doesn't make backups of
 files in or under /tmp, either.

I noticed that in /var/tmp too. All these particular cases are
annoying.

 useful information for you?

 Yes, it's always good to know. The problem is likely to disappear with
 a specific set of kernel config items, but it's not clear which. :-/

 Anyway, let me know if additional tests are needed/possible and, by my
 side, I'll check everyday if new ppc 2.6.20 kernel it's available.

 2.6.20 does not seem to be an useful test target anymore, some people
 confirmed the bug also happens there unfortunately.

Bug#406065: please test this patch for xcdroast

2007-01-17 Thread Andreas Henriksson
tags 406065 + patch
thanks

xcdroast now uses readom instead of readcd. This probably means the
version check isn't needed anymore, since any version of readom in
existance should be new enough.

The attached patch disables the version number check.
Please put the 15_no_readcd_version.diff in the debian/patches/
directory of the package source and add that filename to the bottom of
the debian/patches/series list.

This should hopefully fix the problem, please test and report your
success.

libswt3.2-gtk-jni 3.2.1-4 and testing's libswt-mozilla-gtk-3.2-jni do
not conflict with each other.

This can be closed when properly fixed, or when swt-gtk 3.2.1-5, which
declares a conflict with libswt3.2-gtk-jni, reaches testing (assuming
that happens before Etch's release).

Bug#390582: bibletime crashes on start

2007-01-17 Thread Vladimir Volovich
DG == Daniel Glassey writes:

  here's a backtrace from the non-stripped binary:

 DG Thanks. Looks as though it in something happening within the
 DG sword library. I haven't got Debian amd64 but I've rebuilt the
 DG packages for Ubuntu edgy amd64 and haven't been able to replicate
 DG the crash.

 DG What modules (texts, commentaries etc) do you have installed.

 DG Also, could you send your ~/.kde/share/config/bibletimerc

i did some more debugging: i've built the libsword6 package without
optimization, and re-built bibletime, statically linked to libsword.a

i have the KJV module installed in my ~/.sword directory, as well as
the sword-text-kjv package. if you will do the same, you hopefully
should be able to reproduce the problem. it doesn't appear to be amd64
specific.

the problematic code, where the crash occurs, is in
sword-1.5.9/src/mgr/swmgr.cpp, in function SWMgr::augmentModules:

607:if (multiMod) {
608:// fix config's Section names to rename modules which
are available more than once
609:// find out which sections are in both config objects
610:// inserting all configs first is not good because that
overwrites old keys and new modules would share the same config
611:for (SectionMap::iterator it =
config-Sections.begin(); it != config-Sections.end(); ++it) {
612:if (saveConfig-Sections.find( (*it).first ) !=
saveConfig-Sections.end()) { //if the new section is already present rename it
613:ConfigEntMap entMap((*it).second);
614:
615:SWBuf name;
616:int i = 1;
617:do { //module name already used?
618:name.setFormatted(%s_%d,
(*it).first.c_str(), i);
619:i++;
620:} while (config-Sections.find(name) !=
config-Sections.end());
621:
622:
config-Sections.insert(SectionMap::value_type(name, entMap) );
623:config-Sections.erase(it);
624:}
625:}
626:}

(i've inserted line numbers for convenience).

since i have two KJV modules (one coming from the debian package, and
one installed in my ~/.sword directory), and multiMod passed to
augmentModules is true, this code gets executed.

here's how i see the crash in gdb:

the crash occurs on the line 612, because the statement on the line
623 apparently makes (*it) invalid. i've put more verbose gdb output
below, where i printed the value of *it on each of the steps.

i was apparently able to work-around the bug by entering print it++
in gdb when a breakpoint 623 is reached. continuing after that, i get
bibletime run without a crash. i also have other duplicated modules
installed, such as the StrongsGreek (in both ~/.sword and via the
sword-dict-strongs-greek package), but apparently only the first time
when line 623 gets executed causes garbage in *it - i don't have to
run print it++ to avoid a crash for other duplicated modules.

Best,

Bug#332473: we are documenting the behavior of dimap in kmail

2007-01-17 Thread Josh Metzler
tags 332473 + pending
thanks

Since upstream seems to think that the current behavior of kmail (syncing a
folder at a time) is the way it was designed to work, we have decided to
document the behavior with a warning that not using dimap as upstream
intended can result in lost mail. This will be documented in both
kmail/README.Debian, and hpoefully in a dialog that is shown upon creating
a dimap account. The release team has told us that such documentation
would make this a non-release critical issue.

Since the warning warns against using kmail in the way it is used in these
bugs to cause mail loss, the kdepim upload will close these bugs in its
changelog. That also will make tracking the RC bug in etch easier than
just downgrading the bugs. If someone wants to open another bug of non-RC
severity against kmail for not doing atomic updates of mail moves, they are
welcome to do so. Debian is unlikely to do anything about it unless
upstream does, however.

Thanks for everyone's help in tracking down the issues involved with dimap
and kmail.

Bug#407174: FVWM: FW by [EMAIL PROTECTED] : fvwm does not more use libfribidi

retitle 407174 tighten build dependencies on libfribidi
thanks

[for the fvwm mailing list; the lines above are directives for
the debian BTS]
Hi,

A few things.
  a) The Debian package of fvwm depends on libfribidi0 (=
 0.10.7), despite what your subject line says.
  b) Your report says that you have libfribidi00.10.4-6 , which
 means that you have either forcibly installed fvwm over riding
 the dependencies, or you have compiled fvwm on your own. Which is
 it?
   c) Ari Pollak [EMAIL PROTECTED] has tested fvwm on Etch, and can see
  bidirectional menus work correctly for Hebrew, so bi-directional
  support seems fine.
   d) your bug report says Debian Release: 4.0, but you are running
  kernel version 2.4.32, and libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22sarge; the actual
  version in the forthcoming release 4.0 is 2.3.6.ds1-8

I think this is a local error; I am thus downgrading the
 severity of the debian bug report, and unless you can convince me
 otherwise, I'll further reduce it to minor severity.

Bug#407406: mysql-server: DELETE FROM table causes Incorrect key file for table

2007-01-17 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: mysql-server
Version: 5.0.30-3
Severity: grave
Justification: causes serious data loss

Hello,

I use a Debian etch server for development purposes, and I use there a
mysql database.

Now that I've upgraded my development server from sarge to etch, I face
a grave bug: when importing data from a dump made by mysqldump to a new
database, a key corruption appears.

Here is the error message:

Mysql::Error: #HY000Incorrect key file for table '/tmp/#sql_7b82_0.MYI';
try to repair it: query ...

After Googling a bit, I found that bug on the MySQL's bug tracking system:
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=22384

So it sounds to be fixed upstream (the report speaks about a patch).

IMHO, That bug should definitely not be shipped with etch, it renders any
impacted database unusable.

Regards,

Bug#407405: file conflicts between ncc and nemerle

2007-01-17 Thread Michael Ablassmeier
Package: ncc, nemerle
Severity: serious
Justification: file conflicts between Packages, policy violation

hi,

both ncc and nemerle ship `/usr/bin/ncc' but do not conflict or add a
diversion, thus fail to be installed on the same environment:

 dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/nemerle_0.9.3+dfsg-1_all.deb
(--unpack):
  trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/ncc', which is also in package ncc
 dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
 Errors were encountered while processing:
  /var/cache/apt/archives/nemerle_0.9.3+dfsg-1_all.deb
 E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

bye,
- michael

Bug#407407: php4-xcache: Can't install etch package

2007-01-17 Thread Jeremy Lal
Package: php4-xcache
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

apt-get install php4-xcache
simply doesn't work...
it seems a dependency can't be installed.
I'm using Etch.
