Bug#418972: cdrom: Etch does not detect CD-ROM on Acer Aspire 7100

2007-04-12 Thread Edson Zen Jr
Package: cdrom
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I'm trying to install debian etch, so I downloaded this iso
http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r0/i386/iso-cd/debian-40r0-i386-CD-1.iso
and burned it in a CD.
When I try to install it, I can't go any further than the DETECT AND
MOUNT CDROM, cause the CD-ROM drive was not detected, i've tried loading
all modules sugested but none where able to make the cdrom usable.

So I tried using NETBOOT.tar.gz to install the base system, to bypass
the CDROM step. I managed to get to the partition HD, but again the
installer would not detect my HD, so I couldn't partition/Install
nothing.

I've entered this trouble in debian-user-portuguese, and a user
recommended booting using these parameters,
BOOT_DEBUG=3
echo options libata atapi_enabled=1 >> /etc/modprobe.conf
echo ide-generic >> /etc/modprobe.conf
echo ata_piix >> /etc/modprobe.conf
echo sd_mod >> /etc/modprobe.conf

Despite the user's good will, none was efective, I still can get my
cd-rom detected.

Thank you

Bug#418962: tomcat5.5: Should not use relative symlinks

2007-04-12 Thread Mike Young
Package: tomcat5.5
Version: 5.5.20-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The installation of tomcat5.5 uses relative symlinks in many places
including in the directories under CATALINA_BASE.
Example:
conf
logs -> ../../log/tomcat5.5
shared
temp
webapps
work -> ../../cache/tomcat5.5

This assumes that CATALINA_BASE is always going to be set to
/var/lib/tomcat5.5

If a users such as myself makes CATALINA_BASE some other directory like
/srv/tomcat5.5, any upgrade of the product will delete the symlinks and
replace them with the relative links above... breaking the tomcat
installation.

tomcat5.5 SHOULD NOT assume that a user-modifiable parameter is going to
be at a set location every time.
I believe that tomcat5.5 CAN assume that certain configuration items are
going to be in their correct "debian" places, and should always use
fully qualified symlinks.

So, logs should point to /var/log/tomcat5.5
work should point to /var/cache/tomcat5.5
and the other links in the installtion (there are some in the conf
directories that intend to point to /etc/tomcat5.5) should be corrected
as well.

As it stands, there is no way to upgrade the installtion of tomcat5.5 if
the user chooses a different CATALINA_BASE

To be precise:
 - leftover autom4te.cache from autoconf
 - libtool placed symlinks instead of copying files over (missing -c

Bug#418839: otrs2: missing dependency on package libapache-mod-perl

Hi Micha,

otrs2 depends on libapache2-mod-perl2 and it is installed on your
system. You probably have called

a2dismod perl

but you shouldn't.

Bug#418907: rdesktop: patch for segfaults with libx11-6 1.0.3-7 (stable)

2007-04-12 Thread Narayanan R S

Package: rdesktop
Version: 1.5.0-1
Severity: grave
Architecture: i386
Debian Release: Stable (etch)

After a recent update on stable, rdesktop segfaults repeatedly and is
completely unusable. The root cause of this issue is a change in libx11-6
(1.0.3-7) which had a recent security fix. The main issue is that the
XCreateImage function has a change which impacts rdesktop (and other
packages that depend on this library).

I'm attaching a patch that fixes this issue (I've tested it and it works
perfectly on etch and is very stable).

The fix is against the xwin.c file (from the original rdesktop source
distribution) in the rdesktop distribution.

Please update this ASAP since this is a critical bug and renders rdesktop
completely unusable unless you downgrade to libx11-6 1.0.3-6.

Please forward the patch upstream.

Thanks.

Narayanan.

The powerpc buildds are running 2.4 kernels and it appears that this
is what triggers that ominous bug. If they are upgraded to 2.6 kernels,
then the package should build fine.

Bug#418098: [PATCH] rdesktop segfault with libx11-6 1.0.3-7

2007-04-12 Thread Mark Heily
Here is a corrected patch that fixes the segfault and correctly redraws the

Thanks to Mat G for his suggestion on how to fix my original patch.

A not-so-unrelated question: currently, the virtual package called "octave"
in Debian depends on octave2.1. Should we change it to octave2.9?

Bug#406455: upload of ia32-libs-gtk

2007-04-12 Thread Samuel Mimram
Hi,

More than two months ago, Frederik Schueler said that he would make an
upload of ia32-libs-gtk "today", which would fix the nasty bug #406455.
Is there any particular reason why the package has not yet been uploaded?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Samuel.
