Bug#428087: Looks like an ABI change in SWT's native library
Changing /usr/share/java-config/libswt-3.2-java to reference /usr/lib/java/swt.jar rather than /usr/share/java/swt-gtk-3.2.1.jar doesn't make any difference on my system. Rather, the problem seems to be that Azureus is looking for swt-pi-gtk-3235, but libswt3.2-gtk-jni now contains libswt-pi-gtk-3236.so instead. -- Mike Paul [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#428507: dpkg: The error in package upgrading if the old version contains symlinks.
severity 428507 normal thanks On Tue, 12 Jun 2007, Dmitry E. Oboukhov wrote: Package: dpkg Version: 1.13.25 Severity: grave Please don't inflate the severity without good reasons. If the old version of the package contains symlink, and the new version tries to save a directory into the same place, then an upgrade won't be correct. This has always been the case and it's not a bug but a feature. It's that way so that the local admin can effectively move a sub-directory somewhere else (where he has more spaces for example) and replace the directory with a symlink. If the package really wants to replace a symlink, it has to remove the symlink in the preinst script. This behaviour is documented in the Debian Policy: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html | A directory will never be replaced by a symbolic link to a directory or | vice versa; instead, the existing state (symlink or not) will be left | alone and dpkg will follow the symlink if there is one. I'll let the dpkg maintainer close this bug (or merge it if he prefers, of tag wontfix). The bug that the symlink doesn't not replace the directory is already documented in #182747. #406715 is another variant where the symlink is silently ignored when a pre-existing directory is there (although in that case it concerns two different packages). Bug#423441: blosxom: -f vulnerability confirmed (with patch)
Package: blosxom Version: 2.0.2-0~njl.1 Followup-For: Bug #423441 Tags: patch I regret to confirm that the security hole exists. An attacker can remotely invoke a Perl script anywhere on the system. The only limitation is that it must be written without line breaks in the middle of any statement, since it is eval'd line by line. You can verify this by writing a simple hello world script and invoking it: GET http://testblog.local/blosxom?-f=/usr/local/bin/helloworld I've checked the other uses of param() in the script and I believe they're safe. Not in any way elegant, but safe as far as my limited understanding of CGI goes. * The checks for param(-password) are preceded by a check for !$ENV{GATEWAY_INTERFACE} so will not be invoked in a CGI environment, only from the command line as intended. * The uses of param(-quiet) are only invoked if the param(-password) check succeeded, so will not be invoked in a CGI environment, only from the command line as intended. * The uses of param(path) and param(flav) are intended for CGI use, these implement the older Blosxom invovation styles e.g. ?flav=html The tricky one is the param(-all) call in the middle of the default $entries sub. This is involved in the static re-rendering. It is not directly protected from remote invocation. However, param(-all) is used to build %indexes, and %indexes is not used unless the param(-password) check succeeds. So as far as I can see and test, this awful bit of hackery is safe. I don't know if there are any CGI interpreters that don't set $ENV{GATEWAY_INTERFACE} but even if there are the risk is low. The only extra vuln would be that someone guessing the right password could cause static pages (if any) to be re-rendered prematurely. I'm attaching a patch for the -f problem. I've tested this and confirmed that it prevents the remote exploit without breaking the other command-line flags. The patch requires Getopt::Long but that is part of base Perl in 5.8 so there is no new dependency for Etch. If you want to backport this to Sarge you'll need to check, I can't remember about Perl 5.6. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 René Peters wrote: Hm, maybe you are right with your kernel presumption. It is quite possible. Perhaps it is a bug in kded's media manager. I did some more tests and found out that hal is not the absolute reason for this problem. After stopping kded's media manager and hald, restarting hald with hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes i got the messages: Hi René, would it be possible for you, to test the current hal version from unstable (0.5.9-3) and see if you can still trigger the problem? If so, it will probably be a problem in hald-addon-storage, so you could try to attach a debugger to the running hald-addon-storage instance, to see what's going on. Bug#400989: Image_Color PEAR module licensing
Andrew, It's almost two years since I had opened the bug #5721 which you suspended saying it was irrelevant. As Image_Canvas and Image_Graph depend on Image_Color and both of them are LGPL the PHP licensing is incompatible. As a result I'm either looking at 1) having to fork both of them and strip out any reference to Image_Color; 2) removing both Image_Graph and Image_Canvas from the Debian distribution; or 3) moving them to non-free/contrib which will ensure that anything depending on them also has to move to non-free/contrib and out of the main distribution. You had mentioned in your reply to #5721 that you were going to discuss on pear-dev list and ask what other developers thought. That's been over a year now have you not gotten anything back? Has Image_Color2 been written to be API compatible with Image_Color so Image_Graph and Image_Canvas can depend on it as it is LGPL licensed as well? Regards, Jeremy T. Myself, I'm working for OPIT Solutions, in Baden, so I didn't move much from Wettingen :-) But first (Sat), I'm going on 2 weeks holidays now. cheers -- vbi -- Today is Pungenday, the 17th day of Confusion in the YOLD 3173 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ---End Message---
Bug#428582: xulrunner_1.8.1.4-2 (mips/unstable): FTBFS: relocation overflow
Hi, I'm following up here a bug report against xulrunner: It failed to build on mips and mipsel. Here is what Steve Langasek has to say about the issue: Since 1.8.1.4-1 built successfully on both archs, and there are no changes in -2 that seem to explain the build failure, it's possible that this is the result of a toolchain regression; gcc-4.1 4.1.2-11 was uploaded Jun 1, with a changelog entry of Update to SVN 20070601, and this was the version of g++-4.1 used in at least the mips build. You might want to talk to debian-mips and/or debian-gcc about this. As your package uses 10_scim-plugin-module-install-dir.dpatch in debian/patches, the fix should be quite straight forward. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: scim-skk Version: 0.5.2-4 Severity: serious Justification: fails to build from source Hello scim-skk maintainers, As you may have read in pkg-ime-devel list [1][2], there is a change in scim's pkg-config file from upstream, and the variable $(moduledir) changed. As a consequence scim-skk 0.5.2-4 in unstable fails to build with new scim 1.4.6-1, with the following error message: mv /tmp/buildd/scim-skk-0.5.2/debian/scim-skk/usr/lib/scim-1.0/`pkg-config --variable=scim_binary_version scim`/IMEngine/skk.a \ /tmp/buildd/scim-skk-0.5.2/debian/scim-skk/usr/lib/scim-1.0/`pkg-config --variable=scim_binary_version scim`/IMEngine/libskk.a mv: cannot stat `/tmp/buildd/scim-skk-0.5.2/debian/scim-skk/usr/lib/scim-1.0/1.4.0/IMEngine/skk.a': No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 1 I've given a brief summary in my mail [2] on how to fix this, pasted here for your convenience: 1. Build-depend on libscim-dev (= 1.4.6-1); 2a. If already using a patch to change @SCIM_MODULEDIR@/* to @SCIM_MODULEDIR@/1.4.0/* in Makefile.{am,in}, drop such patch. 2b. If not using such a patch, make necessary changes to deal with the move of installed module files from /usr/lib/scim-1.0/*/ to /usr/lib/scim-1.0/1.4.0/*/. 3. Bug#428604: alsa-utils: modprobe utils not installed in /usr/lib/alsa
Package: alsa-utils Version: 1.0.14-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After installing this package, alsa stopped working and would not restart with any of the usual methods; /etc/init.d/alsasound, for example, would simply hang. I discovered that I had to manually load all the snd* modules, but any attempt to load my particular alsa kernel module failed: # modprobe snd-via82xx sh: /usr/lib/alsa/modprobe-post-install: No such file or directory FATAL: Error running install command for snd_via82xx FIX: I created the directory /usr/lib/alsa, and then cp /etc/alsa/modprobe-post-install.d/alsa-utils /usr/lib/alsa/modprobe-post-install This allows me to modprobe snd_via82xx, which creates /dev/dsp, and sound is restored. However, this is a temporary fix. For example, /etc/init.d/alsasound restart does not restart the alsa sound system -- the sound system stops but does not come back on, and all snd kernel modules (snd-pcm, etc.) are unloaded. Another attempt also fails: # /etc/init.d/alsa reload Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: (none loaded). Loading ALSA sound driver modules: (none to reload). and # /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start Setting up ALSA...done (none loaded). In other words, none of the automatic support mechanisms seem to work any longer. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-1-k7 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages alsa-utils depends on: ii dialog1.1-20070604-1 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe ii libasound21.0.14-1 ALSA library ii libc6 2.5-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libncurses5 5.6-3 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii linux-sound-base 1.0.13-5 base package for ALSA and OSS soun ii lsb-base 3.1-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii module-init-tools 3.3-pre11-1tools for managing Linux kernel mo ii modutils 2.4.27.0-6 Linux module utilities ii pciutils 1:2.2.4-1 Linux PCI Utilities ii python2.4.4-6An interactive high-level object-o ii whiptail 0.52.2-10 Displays user-friendly dialog boxe Versions of packages alsa-utils recommends: ii alsa-base 1.0.13-5 ALSA driver configuration files -- debconf-show failed -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#428582: xulrunner_1.8.1.4-2 (mips/unstable): FTBFS: relocation overflow
Mike Hommey a écrit : On Tue, Jun 12, 2007 at 08:58:33PM +0200, Mike Hommey [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, I'm following up here a bug report against xulrunner: It failed to build on mips and mipsel. FWIW, the only mips related change i can see in gcc-4.1 between -8 and -11 is debian/patches/pr20218-mips.dpatch. It may not be a mips specific problem. The glibc fails to build on hppa when switching from gcc-4.1 -8 to -11 (see #428509). The changes in gcc that trigger the failure (currently reduced to about 300 lines) are not hppa specific. Maybe the two problems are related. -- .''`. Well it is now available and working, for me at least, and if others don't have any objections, I'd like to request for this bug filing to be closed. - --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.20 Debian Release: lenny/sid 990 unstable ftp.de.debian.org 500 testing security.debian.org 500 testing ftp.de.debian.org 500 stable security.debian.org - --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ==-+- thunderbird | OR icedove | 2.0.0.0-4 OR iceape-mailnews | OR seamonkey-mailnews | libc6 (= 2.5-5) | 2.5-10 libgcc1 (= 1:4.2-20070516) | 1:4.2-20070609-1 libnspr4-0d (= 1.8.0.10) | 4.6.6-3 libstdc++6 (= 4.2-20070516) | 4.2-20070609-1 gnupg | 1.4.6-2 - -- Key ID = 0xE024A6F3 Key fingerprint = C9A1 2E1E 1E10 6514 2E7D 8934 08C6 B43F E024 A6F3 -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4 (GNU/Linux) iQIVAwUBRm93C5fhWeS24kpvAQofiw/9FaY/5YM8jMxqXhdp99p4ll8nALBDEjCR 60nX97OQAI4wmh2NORWJEX4F1aaMcEPAEdHW+ry/FDeo2FIxFLcNVGxWkIDvoNDN o/ywVIYENkqW1pEUDnfkcZjoK4vjE33VCi0TK6LmJBlUwP0i9VVto+pU7hDLnew+ /zL6R1qphJdgOufNXkXBPAXfNz8FyXFKv+iiAo1gXf09k1O/ptV86rCEAPF3+zgP cfk34qGhJnMoPDYMC+ssdECltJ82KjtbQ/OwifPMt23abOrSPe8uDdVyEo8TQXsa gf3FSm1VpojiT0rpnYsTl5RFP5rJUoAEGY2yYlAFBqdogfxx2AtAyAEJtsL32ILQ BHFpmA8d0fX2FlIZWc2ZSUctE2A3LlbDwxq27uK5uNr/O7U4VccDqDGcxPZXaDo9 c6XN338BFkKSsYQT5NnN7POS+f+p7QSVyBQK0a79TjnOv8b2D7fTwx2H15w81zVi HSmqWXtp7rsUa9BQDvPYNedEop5yI75YMcV9vdAOPvF7rBanKB0P0wdjuUH4qplz DPm+E0Yy86BMBs/VJM+ydXBwvrmjGEUXyE7OiMMW+V0bpzvWSiQxz3gjTrb2qx4p y5L+CYW9L0AXeDEZh78Js3ICcF1HneH69eEj+gRRnUUawJKGk+i4QIN/9XaS8oj4 +N7+b0xRq4s= =NOKy -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
