Bug#445771: python-scipy: indirectly build-depends on contrib package

2007-10-08 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: python-scipy
version: 0.6.0-2
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: qa-ftbfs-20071007 qa-ftbfs
Justification: FTBFS on i386

Hi,

python-scipy build-depends on:

Build-Depends: debhelper (= 5.0.37.2), dpkg-dev (= 1.13.19), dpatch,
python-all-dev, python-central (= 0.5), python-numpy (= 1:1.0.2), g77,
sharutils, swig, libufsparse-dev, netcdfg-dev, libx11-dev, refblas3-dev |
atlas3-base-dev, lapack3-dev | atlas3-base-dev, fftw3-dev

However, libufsparse-dev is a virtual package:

libufsparse-dev is a virtual package provided by: libsuitesparse-metis-dev
libsuitesparse-dev
Using libsuitesparse-metis-dev (no default, using first one)

But libsuitesparse-metis-dev is in contrib.

Shouldn't you depend on libsuitesparse-dev directly to avoid building a
package that depends on a contrib package, and thus should go to contrib
as well?

Also, the package currently FTBFS because of this, since
libsuitesparse-metis-dev is not installable.

Lucas

Bug#441198: binNMU request for gtkmathview on amd64 [Was: Re: Bug#441198: Crash on amd64]

2007-10-08 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Hi -releasers,
can you please schedule a binNMU for the source package gtkmathview on
amd64? Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure that it is the proper
solution, since I did not (also after talking with upstream et al) about
what was the cause of the crash, but we are quite convinced it was some
toolchain breakage.

Nevertheless, ATM rebuilding the package on amd64 fixes the problem,
that's why I'm asking for the binNMU.

Hints on what to do on other archs (i.e. binNMU also there?) are
appreciated. On i386 the package works just fine, but I don't know what
to expect elsewhere ...

TIA, Cheers.

Bug#444546: amsn: narrowing down - problem changing to some fonts like Dejavu mono

2007-10-08 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: amsn
Version: 0.97~rc1+dfsg1-5
Followup-For: Bug #444546

I could change the fonts preference to any of the Bitstream Vera
varieties, but some of the Dejavu varieties like Dejavu mono caused a
segfault /-:

Is this an amsn problem, tcl/tk problem or what?

Arthur.

Bug#444546: amsn: segfaults when changing font

2007-10-08 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: amsn
Version: 0.97~rc1+dfsg1-5
Followup-For: Bug #444546

I did:

mv ~/.amsn ~/amsn_old

then re-ran:

amsn

and it started fine.

I compared the gconfig.xml in each directory and found that in the newly
created .msn directory, gconfig.xml contained:

entry
  attributebasefont/attribute
  valueHelvetica 11 normal/value
   /entry

in the ~/.amsn/gconfig.xml that crashed I had:

entry
  attributebasefont/attribute
  valuearial.unicode.ms 12 normal/value
   /entry

When I changed back to using my original .amsn directory contents but
with the basefont in config.xml set back to Helvetica 11 normal,
everything ran find *until* I tried to change the fonts, and then
received a segmentation fault.

DenyHosts 2.6 does not properly parse sshd log files, which allows
remote attackers to add arbitrary hosts to the /etc/hosts.deny file
and cause a denial of service by adding arbitrary IP addresses to the

protocol version identification containing an IP address string, a
different vector than CVE-2006-6301.

This is known, and being fixed, using an appropriate HOME handling in

Bug#445815: aiccu: configuration file world readable (containing password and login)

2007-10-08 Thread Sebastian Niehaus
Package: aiccu
Version: 20070115-3~bpo.2+b1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

I know, this is an unsupported backport. Anyways ..

The file /etc/aiccu.conf containing login and password is
world readable. The security problem is obvious.

Thanks, but no, this is not supported through the BTS, sorry. Backports
are supported in private mail, at most.

The postinst clearly chmods in the version in unstable I have at hand.
There is possibly a corner case when you do not use Debconf or use the
non-interactive backend to configure the package. Then the configuration
file might be written with unsafe permissions. I will investigate this
with the pending Debconf script rewrite.

Bug#445720: The GIMP plugins for refocussing blurred images

2007-10-08 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Hi,

I'm also forwarding this mail to the bug report I got regarding this
problem, just to keep track of it.

Does refocus always segfault, or only from times to times? I have seen
intermittent segfaults with refocus in the past (I don't get that
anymore now), but never reproducible segfaults. Which GIMP version are
 you using?

for me it segfaults every time, if the image is larger than 100x100 or
so, didn't check it exactly. But with all large images I've tested it I
run into a segfault.
I'm using gimp and co from unstable.

You can svn co https://ssl.recluse.de/svn/debian/trunk/packages/refocus/
if you want to have what's I'm working with, I've reworked a lot of
stuff to make building debug packages working at all.

I've a backtrace attached to this mail in case you want to look into it.

Cheers,

Bernd

Bug#445825: multipath-tools-boot should run after libdevmapper1.02

2007-10-08 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: multipath-tools
Version: 0.4.7-1.1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

The script /etc/rcS.d/S03multipath-tools-boot creates devices in
/dev/mapper/ (per udev rule), but /dev/mapper/ does not exist at that
time. The directory is created by /etc/rcS.d/S25libdevmapper1.02, so
multipath-tools-boot should run after that. (Or perhaps the directory
should be created earlier by some other means.) I could successfully
fix the problem by moving it to S25multipath-tools-boot. (The numbers
are a bit tight because I need it before S26lvm.)

This applies to etch; it might be possible that the new packaging
structure in unstable works better.

Since you don't have any reverse deps, you should probably just add

Do you have previous experience on this ? I would not want to have the

This is a note to the public wondering why egroupware 1.4 is in

The following are major problems compared to 1.2:

- There is no migration path from the old LDAP addressbook to the new

- Addressbook ACLs change meaning without notice, meaning people won't
be able to read what they used to be able to.

- Shared folders no longer work with Felamimail and Courier IMAP.

- icalsrv is completely broken.

We will stick with egroupware 1.2 in lenny until these issues are

Bug#440721: it is a compiler bug

2007-10-08 Thread Geert Stappers
reassign 440721 cpp-4.2
thanks

AFAICS is it a compiler bug.
It is also in version 4.1
With gcc version 4.0 I was able to build the package.

cpp-4.2 is chosen as the assign package,
because it provides the /usr/lib/gcc/sparc-linux-gnu/4.2.1 directory.

Cheers
Geert Stappers

Bug#445840: irssi: should this package be orphaned?

2007-10-08 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: irssi
Version: 0.8.10-2
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Hi,

Your package came up as a package that should maybe be orphaned by its
maintainer, because:
 * no upload for more than a year
 * a new upstream release available for half a year
 * several bugs have had a patch attached for a long time, with no
   comment from the maintainer
 * a lot of bugs with no comment from the maintainer
 * irssi plays an important role in Debian, being one of the tools
required by DDs to lose a lot of time (gtetrinet is another).

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: irssi -- terminal based IRC client
game
thanks

For more information, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-archive-manip
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Thank you,

   Thanks for the advice.

I've already uploaded osgal with the proper Replace + Conflict. It
is unclear if filing a removal request on ftp.debian.org will remove
*all* instances of this package or just the unstable + testing ones.

only the unstable + testing ones, according to an answer on
#debian-release.

removals from stable only happen for very special cases (like a huge
license violation).

Thanks for the bug, *but*: you could've tried

a.) checking if there was a bug filed about the issue already

b.) could've checked if there was a newer version of the package

   $LDAPPASSWDBIN -w $BINDPWD -D $BINDDN -xH ldap://$SERVER; -s $1
   $2 2$LOGFILE 1/dev/null

 Thanks for the forward.

Two passwords appear in clear-text format here : $BINDPWD (the one used for
 any
ldapscripts connection) and $1 (the new one, to be changed for a given user).
The first one appears in any function defined in the runtime file (easy to
 grep
: BINDPWD), the second one is only used in _changepassword() to change a
 user's
 password.

Is it a matter of making the first one appear ? The second one, or both ? I
understand these security issues, but my opinion is the scripts should only be
used by a small set of users (e.g. *very* limited rx access to a specific
user/group for config, runtime and script files). Since the password (at least
the one used for binding) has to be sent clear-text to the LDAP directory, it
has to be stored clear-text somewhere locally, and thus, any allowed user can
source the conf file. I'm not sure storing it in a temp file would solve the
 problem...

Any further explanation of the problem is welcome since I am not sure to
 understand the problem correctly...

The issue is that when the commands are run, the arguments can be seen
in clear text in `ps aux` output.

So not only that script has the issue, the parts where you sed -e
s/password/$PASSWORD/g are vulnerable too.

I understand the issue is not that obvious to fix, but this is an
issue in a multiuser environment, even if small (in my company we use
ldap, we don't want our interns to run busy psaux loops to steal the
ldap password …).

Bug#445780: Wrong color on winxp as well. Left mouse-button clicks not working.

2007-10-08 Thread Andreas Henriksson
I get the same yellow-instead-of-grey as the previously posted
screenshot when I connect to Windows XP.
Haven't yet run into a segfault, but left mouse-button clicks seems to
be ignored (right works fine) so my hands are pretty tied by that.
Everything worked fine in previous version.

rdesktop outputs this to console while connecting:

WARNING: Remote desktop does not support colour depth 24; falling back to 16
