Why would I want to look up another patch to review it after already investing
time recommending what I truly believe to be a comprehensive fix? This is
surely the job of the maintainers to discuss the options and choose their
choice of action. The trick is to solicit a response from them.

If you really want me to, make it a bit easier by giving a unambiguous link to
the content _and_ state what it does better in comparison to what we could
inherit from Werner Fink that I've argued in favour of a long long time ago,
and referenced again in the mail you replied to.

Thanks, Kel.

Bug#456266: gij-4.2: non-free man pages included

2007-12-13 Thread Christer Andersson
Package: gij-4.2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

The man pages gcj-dbtool-4.2.1 and gij-4.2.1 are both licensed under the GNU Fre
Documentation License with front- and back-cover texts. According to Debian vote
1 of 2006 this is a violation of the DFSG modifiability requirements.

Both man pages are fairly short so it shouldn't be too much work writing fresh
ones to comply with the DFSG. As I primarily use C++/C I'm probably not the best
person for the job. I would however be willing to have a go at it, if so
requested.

Other non-free man pages in packages related to the GNU Compiler Collection:
  * cpp-4.2 (bug #456262)
  * gcc-4.2 (bug #442445)
  * gcj (bug #456264)
  * gij-4.2 (bug #456265)

Note: In response to bug #442445 Matthias Klose said that the problem won't
  be fixed (for gcc) until the 4.2.3 and 4.3.0 releases.

I would be for a separate bug for the Recommends so the maintainer can
add it and add some documentation in /usr/share/doc/abraca/README.Debian
on this.

Is using a temporary $HOME really such a good idea? What do you thin
about just disabling/removing (via patch) the stuff in ./waf that needs
$HOME? I'm not a python guy, so I cant help much here.

Bug#455017: cdrom: sound system does not work

Hi,

I'm reassigning this to the KDE package in the hope the maintainers
can help you. This isn't a grave bug against the CD or
debian-installer packages.

Bug#436140: cdrom: Most of the system's files have a future timestamp causing at least update/config problems.

2007-12-13 Thread Steve McIntyre
reassign 436140 debian-installer
thanks

Hi,

This bug is in the installer, most likely caused by a clock
initialisation problem. I'm reassigning it to the debian-installer
team for their input.

Bug#443722: Not an f-spot bug

2007-12-13 Thread Wouter Verhelst
severity 443722 normal

I hadn't been able to trigger this bug at the time when I reported it
using anything but f-spot, no matter how I tried; and it had happened
about 30 times (off the back of my head).

Last weekend, however, I did reproduce this bug using digiKam; so either
some library that is shared by both digiKam and f-spot is at fault, or
something else entirely.

Since I'm no longer sure which package is at fault, it's not really fair
to leave this as an RC bug on f-spot, so changing the severity. Since I
don't (yet) know what is really causing this, however, and since I still
saw this happening most while using f-spot, I'm not going to reassign or
close it just yet.

I fixed the bug, but forgot to add the "Closes:" note in the changelog.

Here is the changelog anyways:

nspr (4.7.0~1.9b1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/*.symbols.*: Remove "../../" workaround now that dh_makeshlibs
supports symbols files includes properly.
  * debian/control:
+ Build depend on debhelper (>= 5.0.62), where this happened. Remove
  dpkg-dev versioned build-dependency, as debhelper already depends
  on the proper one, and this dependency is obviously not going to be
  dropped.
+ Bumped Standards-Version to 3.7.3.0. No changes needed.

As discussed in private mail, the current gnucash sources in sid require
goffice 0.4.x which is now packaged as source package goffice0.4 and whose
development files are in libgoffice-0-dev.

And the amd64 buildd built with version 5.0.61, which gives me the version
I'll have to conflict with when I'll have this fixed ;)

Thanks

Hello,

it is not DFSG free - it's a known issue and yesterday I recieved an
email from maxmind (Upstream) where I'm allowed to clean it up.

I will try to fix it as fast as possible, but I've to do much work.

Bug#456203: dumb reportbug

2007-12-13 Thread Nagy Elemer Karoly

Dear Debian,

So, reportbug forgot to inlcude the majority of the report:

USB pendrive fails when syncing file systems (works OK with big sequential
copies) with "reset high speed USB device" and "device descriptor read/64,
error -110" and "sd 0:0:0:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error
recovery" and "scsi 0:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device"

Laptop is HP NX 6125, Pendrive is A-DATA PD7:
 00:13.0 0c03: 1002:4374 (prog-if 10 [OHCI])
 00:13.1 0c03: 1002:4375 (prog-if 10 [OHCI])

 sd 4:0:0:0: [sda] 4046848 512-byte hardware sectors (2072 MB)
 sd 4:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through

A workaround is to issue:
 echo "64" >/sys/block/sda/device/max_sectors
but that slows down copying to 2.6.18 level (which had no such issue).

Without the workaround, I borked my FAT (fat_get_cluster: invalid
cluster chain (i_pos 0), FAT: Filesystem panic (dev sda1)) and ended up
having files filled with zeroes. Severe data loss, could be a problem when
kernel gets into Etch.

Seems to affect only high-speed USB HUB (only EHCI?) +Pendrive.

Google is full of "reset high speed USB device" with many different USB
stuff - from external HDDs to network cards.

no-ip uses /etc/no-ip.conf, which is (a) a binary file, and (b)
written to by the daemon during run-time. It's not a configuration
file in the Unix sense and thus must not live in /etc.

I suggest using debconf (#328842) to get answers to the questions
asked by -C, then to feed those to no-ip and tell it to generate
a file in /var/lib instead.

Bug#455482: PyZenity

2007-12-13 Thread Brian Ramos
Actually, it looks like it would be pretty easy to implement properly in
PyGTK. I took a quick look at the source of Zenity last night and I see
no problems with using Zenity's own glade file for the widgets and
translating the C to Python. It looks like a weekend project to me.

It might be a good project to get up to speed on PyGTK, Siegfried. My
wild guess is it'll take a few good days to learn what you need to
rewrite it but it's definitely worth knowing if you use Python a lot.
I'll be willing to take a crack at it if you don't have to time.
Totally up to you.

Cheers,

Brian

Siegfried-Angel wrote:

Well, then I can't object neither... I'll upload it to my PPA for Ubuntu.

I've been thinking about it, and learning PyGTK is something I've
pending since a while... How much (time) do you think that it could
take to rewrite it properly up to the point of functionality it has
right now? (I'm just asking... Not sure if I'll work on it as
Ubuntu/Debian development is already taking a lot of time, and I've
other projects in progress, too).

Bug#456190: geoip: debian/copyright is wrong

2007-12-13 Thread Pierre Habouzit
Package: geoip
Severity: serious

* libgeoip is NOT under the GPL but the LGPL.
* Source for the geolite database is not in the package, hence it's not
  DFSG free, though it's downloadable from
  http://www.maxmind.com/app/geolitecity, it should be packaged
  independently along with the CSV generated here.
* license for the database is BSD with advertisement clause which I'm
  unsure is DFSG free, and is not the GPL anyways.

  Not to mention that geoip holds a couple of files (like md5 code that
has different license).

Bug#456102: FTBFS: error: 'INT_MAX' undeclared

This puzzled me at first, as line 606 reads:

  ret = ioctl(fd, CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS, CDSL_CURRENT);

Both constants come from linux/cdrom.h. For me it contains:

  #define CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS  0x5326  /* Get tray position, etc. */
  #define CDSL_CURRENT((int) (~0U>>1))

I wouldn't be surprised if the second #define had been changed to use
INT_MAX in more recent kernel sources.

So is this a bug in the header file - should it include itself?

Cheers,

  Richard

Bug#432755: please upload to volatile.

2007-12-13 Thread Matus UHLAR - fantomas
Hello,

Could you please upload the new version of flashplugin-nonfree to volatile?
(as soon as it reaches testing... this is requirement for volatile)

This way stable users will be allowed to upgrade w/o using version from
backports, testing, whatever...

Thank you.

Hi,

I could have tagged #455819 as moreinfo as well, and reassign this to
the "proper" package, but considering you filed #453733 and #455996 with
equally no information, and havent replied to the request for moreinfo on
#453733, I've decided to just close these bugs.

You're welcome to file them again and give some more information which can
help us understanding and fixing the bugs, like describing which software
exactly doesnt work, what you have done exactly, what software you are
running, on which hardware etc.

Please read http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/HowTo/BugReports for some more
verbose information how to report bugs. Thanks.

Holger

# Make sure SATA disks are powered down as well as IDE disks. This
# patch could use some more work to make it more dynamic when
# detecting SATA/SCSI disks.  Closes: #348172
