Bug#473304: libhtml-wikiconverter-perl: does not start with --dialect=MediaWiki option

2008-03-29 Thread Rowan Rodrik van der Molen
Package: libhtml-wikiconverter-perl
Version: 0.61-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This package used to install a number of wiki-specific Perl packages such as
HTML::WikiConverter::MediaWiki.
It no longer does this, which renders it rather useless.

Starting it (as I used to) with an option such as --dialect=MediaWiki
will now only spew an error.

The bug is extremely easy to reproduce: run html2wiki
--dialect=MediaWiki and you're done.

 tkdiff doesn't start anymore. It just throws this error:

It appears that someone changed the font-syntax.
I got it working by this chunk
(there's also some change in PrefsFileVersion, which may be relevant):

Bug#473058: With sablevm, java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError

2008-03-29 Thread Jörg Sommer
Hello Petter, Hi Java Team,

Petter Reinholdtsen schrieb am Sat 29. Mar, 19:02 (+0100):
 [Trent W. Buck]
  I don't really know about Java, but I suspect this is failing
  because bootchart-view doesn't work with sablevm (which I chose
  because it has the smallest disk footprint). If this is the case,
  bootchart-view's dependency should be tightened.

 It could also be said to be a problem with sablevm, providing one of
 java-gcj-compat, java-runtime and java2-runtime without implementing
 all that is needed for programs to work with it.

sablevm provides only java-runtime. I don't know if there's a definition
what java-runtime means.

My intent was to drop java-runtime and only depend on java-gcj-compat |
java2-runtime.

Can someone from the Java team answer the question on what packages a
package should depend that is built with java-gcj-compat-dev.

Bye, Jörg.

Yes, indeed, I have had troubles too with peercast.

I'll try to dig more on this issue.

Package: debian-goodies
Version: 0.33
Severity: grave
Tags: security

Hi,

The checkrestart program from debian-goodies (both latest 0.33 and
stable 0.27) allows arbitrary command execution with root privileges.

Example:

 $ cp /bin/sleep ; OWNED
 $ ./; OWNED 1000
 $ rm ; OWNED
 $ sudo checkrestart
 ...
 sh: OWNED: command not found
 ...

Since this program is likely launched as a daily root cron job on some
systems, I think this is a grave security hole.

The cause of the problem is the way dpkg --search is spawned
from the main() function:

...
dpkgQuery = 'dpkg --search ' + ' '.join(programs.keys())
for line in os.popen(dpkgQuery).readlines():
...

In my above example, one of the programs.keys() is ; OWNED, and thus
the executed command is dpkg --search ... ; OWNED

Fixing this should be as easy as:

 ...
 import subprocess
 ...
dpkgQuery = [dpkg, --search] + programs.keys()
dpkgProc = subprocess.Popen(dpkgQuery, stdout=subprocess.PIPE)
for line in dpkgProc.stdout.readlines():
...

This way, the command arguments are all well separated, without any
shell interpretation.

PS: sorry for any mistake i may have done in the way i've reported this
bug. I'm not a Debian user, so i'm not used to your system. Actually,
i just happened to come accross this checkrestart script reading a

python-central 0.6 uses now a package and tool independent directory
to store the architecture independent files. Files which were located
in /usr/share/pycentral/site-packages/package are now located in

Bug#473058: With sablevm, java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError

2008-03-29 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

reassign 473058 sablevm
thanks

[Trent W.

When I tested this in my sid chroot, where the java alternative is

Bug#422800: Hard to say

2008-03-29 Thread Matijs van Zuijlen
Tim,

I didn't recieve your message from Mar 8 directly, and only noticed it
just now in the BTS.

It's a little hard to say if IceDove handles this differently, since I'm
not quite sure yet what the 'this' is that is causing Evolution to
behave this way.

In any case, I have not seen email disappear on IceDove. If the server
is unaivalable for carrying out the move, I just get a warning: Failed
to connect to server so-and-so.

Oh, and yes, this bug was the reason for moving to IceDove.

I have in the meantime tried to reproduce this Evolution bug, but have
not succeeded yet.

Regards,
Matijs

Package: bsdcpio
Version: 2.4.11-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The option parsing of bsdcpio is totally broken on arm, armel, s390 and
powerpc due to a wrong assumption on char signedness. From cpio/cpio.c:

 char opt;
 [...]
 while ((opt = cpio_getopt(cpio)) != -1) {
 [...]

This yields a compiler warning, as seen in eg. the arm build log:

 cpio/cpio.c: In function 'main':
 cpio/cpio.c:114: warning: comparison is always true due to limited range of
data type

The result is that any bsdcpio invocation fails with the usage
instructions. I have verified this on an arm Etch installation with a
backported package, but there's little doubt that it's the case also
for the current sid packages.

See eg. http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2001/12/msg02074.html
for a discussion on the char signedness issue.

Cheers,

I start up openoffice.org-writer (or openoffice.org-calc) from the

proceeds to about 50% it hangs. Then I edited
/etc/openoffice/sofficerc and disabled the startup log (set Logo=0 in

This time there was no logo but the application immediately quit

2008-03-29 Thread David Koo
Hi,

 With 1:2.3.1-5 or sids 2.4?

I'm using Lenny, so its 1:2.3.1-5

 Did you change something on your system except moving that dir back?

The only thing I can recall is switching to the open source radeonhd
driver for ATI graphics cards instead of the proprietary fglrx
(support free software :)). I just switched back to the proprietary
fglrx driver and tried - no crash ... everything started fine.

 If you can't reproduce it with 1:2.3.1-5 either, though, then yes,
 we can close it..

As you can see above, I can't reproduce it now, so I suppose you
can close this bug. I just hope it isn't a ticking time bomb waiting
to explode somewhere else!!!

Thanks.

Bug#467264: g-p-man: 'on battery' config interacts with 'on AC' settings - severity broken

 I have observed that on my laptop, after some time of inactivity, and
 after manually reducing the brightness to minimum, I see that brightness
 is turned to max.

 Also, I have just seen some weird behaviour: while on battery, I was
 looking at power preferences for AC and I set it to 100%. To my
 surprise, the brightness changed.

 Even worse, after leaving the brightness slider for AC at 100%, I
 switched to the battery tab and slided it from the original 0% to 100%
 and, lo and behold, as the slider when towards 100% the brightness went
 UP, yes, UP!

 Playing with the battery slider, after that I have seen that:

 While on battery:
 - moving the AC slider changes brightness
 - while the AC slider was at 0%, moving the batt slider doesn't do anything
 - while the AC slider was at 100%, the battery slider worked up-side-down
 - when the AC slider is at 0%, the battery slider doesn't have any effect
 - when the battery slider is at 100%, the AC slider has no effect

Does this still happen in the latest version ?

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for vlc.

CVE-2008-0073CVE-2008-0073[0]:
| Array index error in the sdpplin_parse function in
| input/libreal/sdpplin.c in xine-lib 1.1.10.1 allows remote RTSP
| servers to execute arbitrary code via a large streamid SDP parameter.

It turned out that vlc is also using that code in
modules/access/rtsp/real_sdpplin.c

Find a patch for the above issue on:

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

Bug#473324: libghc6-happs-dev: Should split source packages according to upstream's scheme

2008-03-29 Thread Kari Pahula
Package: libghc6-happs-dev
Version: 0.9.2.1-1
Severity: serious

HAppS is currently distributed by upstream as 5 different cabal
packages. I merged them together into one by hand for this version.
While this does the job, it causes problems for any Haskell programs
using HAppS, since there's no cabal package called HAppS outside of
Debian. I'll upload a new version that follows upstream's packaging
shortly. In the meantime, I don't want to have this version enter
testing.

Thank you for your bug report.

Please send me your configuration files to try to reproduce this
bug here.

It's my first bug report - I think it's grave, but the report
tool says that it should occur on different systems to be grave and I
don't have different hardware configurations to test it on them.

My mounts on a mips machine are working fine. The server is a
amd64 (x86_64) machine.

I've set the severity of this bug to important as my mounts have
been working for me.

Package: ia32-libs
Version: 2.2
Severity: normal

Doing a rebuild of wine on my AMD64 box, it failed with the following
error (this is using the amd64.tar.lzma.uu with precompiled ia32
binaries in it):

(Approximation, I scrolled the error away...)

dpkg-shlibs: No shlibs information for /usr/lib32/libxml2.so.

I added the following line:
libxml2 2 ia32-libs (= 1.6)

to /var/lib/dpkg/info/ia32-libs.shlibs and the build succeeded.

I can't say this fix is definately correct (I haven't looked at the
source for ia32-libs, nor do I see how dpkg-shlibs can tell a 32-bit and
64-bit .shlibs file apart. I _do_ have the 64-bit libxml2 pacakge
installed)

Anyway, for your consideration. Currently the buildds are barfing on
something earlier in the package, but I'm happy to retest the build with
whatever solution you feel is best.

I have libldap-2.4-2 (2.4.7-5) installed but I still get the following error:
dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: couldn't find library libldap_r-2.4.so.2 needed by
debian/libwine-ldap/usr/lib/wine/wldap32.dll.so (its RPATH is '').

I suppose the problem is in ia32-libs.

Bug#473336: compiz: uses large amounts of memory

2008-03-29 Thread brian m. carlson

Package: compiz
Version: 0.6.3~git20080115.0ea58487-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

compiz is using a very large amount of memory, 1.6GB. If I didn't have
3GB of memory in this system, compiz would have triggered the OOM
killer, causing data loss. Regardless, memory use of this magnitude is
completely unacceptable.

I have been logged in for over 5 days, and have suspended my machine at
least as many times, in case that helps debug the problem. I am
otherwise running a fairly standard Debian GNOME installation.

I will leave the compiz process running a little bit longer, in case you
