Bug#519058: vtk: FTBFS on (almost) all architectures
Package: vtk Version: 5.2.1-1 Severity: serious Hi, I case you haven't noticed yet, the recent upload of VTK 5.2 fails to build on all architectures (except for amd64, which I assume got uploaded in the first place). Looking at https://buildd.debian.org/~luk/status/package.php?p=vtk the most common error seems to be | dh_install -i --sourcedir=/build/buildd-vtk_5.2.1-1-alpha-SAuXrb/vtk-5.2.1/debian/tmp | cp: cannot stat `/build/buildd-vtk_5.2.1-1-alpha-SAuXrb/vtk-5.2.1/debian/tmp//qt4-support/usr/lib/vtk-5.2': No such file or directory But there is also: | c++: Internal error: Terminated (program cc1plus) | Please submit a full bug report. | See file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-4.3/README.Bugs for instructions. | make[3]: *** [Graphics/CMakeFiles/vtkGraphics.dir/vtkPlaneSource.o] Error 1 | make[3]: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/vtk-5.2.1/Build' Hence this bugs seems to be different from #516756. Bug#517470: ffmpeg2theora: FTBFS in sid
peter green plugw...@p10link.net writes: tags 517470 +fixed-upstream thanks ubuntu have packaged a newer upstream version in jaunty and thier source package seems to build fine in sid. I've just tried a minimal invasive patch for this package: diff Description: Binary data unfortunately, it stil fails to build, buildlog attached. current-unstable Description: Binary data The reason for the failed build that the ffmpeg package no longer provides the optional and deprecated VHOOK extensions, but provides instead libavfilter, a new library for implementiong various filters. I have no idea how essential VHOOK is for ffmpeg2theora, but as peter points out, it seems that newer versions as the one in ubuntu does no longer require it. Therefore strongly recommend updating to the version found in ubuntu. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4

After some research it seems likely that success of cupsys testsuite is dependant of the performance of system running the testsuite. See: test/waitjobs.sh. It will only wait upto 60sec when waiting for jobs to finish. Bumping up the timeout has no ill effect on faster machines, because waitjobs.sh will anyway exit as soon as jobs have finished. waitjobs.sh should also print wether it exits due to jobs finising or due to bumping to a timeout. This probably also explains why the testsuite has failed on m68k and arm before. Test Summary PASS: Printer 'Test1' correctly produced 41 page(s). PASS: Printer 'Test2' correctly produced 23 page(s). Bug#519123: midori: soup_uri_decode implicitly converted to pointer
Package: midori Version: 0.1.4-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `soup_uri_decode' implicitly converted to pointer at ../midori/midori-view.c:2551 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. Bug#519149: xen-3: does not really load bzImage kernels.
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 Version: 3.2.1-2 Severity: serious After noting that this version supposedly loads bzImage kernels: | xen-3 (3.2.1-2) unstable; urgency=low | | * Use e2fslibs based ext2 support for pygrub. (closes: #476366) | * Fix missing checks in pvfb code. | See CVE-2008-1952. (closes: #487095) | * Add support for loading bzImage files. (closes: #474509) | * Enable TLS support in ioemu code. | * Drop libcrypto usage because of GPL-incompatibility. | * Remove AES code from blktap drivers. Considered broken. I thought I might give it a try (right now I am running on xen-3.4 hg), to see if I couldn't run the paravirt-ops work in production. Seems I can't, as it complains that the kernel is not a valid ELF image. But this image works under 3.4, as I am using it right now. As the paravirt-ops work is the future of dom0 support, it is probably a good idea to fix this in squeeze. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-rc7-tip-0-pvopsxen0-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-amd64 depends on no packages. As a matter of fact there was no such failure in 0.7.6-7. Furthermore, compiz 0.7.6-7 seems to not use at all myspell-en-us, 0.7.6-7+b1 [amd64 i386] also fail, but for the other arches myspell-en-us is not even used at all. For 0.7.6-8 [ia64] myspell-en-us is again used and failure happens, but not for any other arch. Again for all other arches there is no mention of myspell-en-us. Seems we have a serious problem with the autobuilders, not with myspell-en-us. apt seems to sometimes behave badly and load unrelated packages (myspell-en-us is not in Build-depends and looking at it I cannot imagine which package has pulled it) It gets installed when you don't have Install-Recommends turned off. Has that changed in autobuilders since September? Is also strange that 0.7.6-7+b1 [i386] shown this problem last Sunday, but not today. That I have no idea. Maybe they stopped installing recommends. Anyway, why is dictionaries-common removed before myspell-en-us, and without complaining? myspell-en-us depends on dictionaries-common, so that should not happen. Policy is pretty clear on this. You can not rely on Depends being present during the purge phase. Kurt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#519170: Konqueror crashs cause entire X server to crash
package: konqueror version: 3.5.9 severity: critical I have been running Konqueror on fvwm-crystal on Debian Lenny. A number of times while using Konqueror, the entire X server crashed, restarted, and showed the login screen. The problem usually occurred after I had been using Konqueror with multiple tabs over a long period of time. I am not completely sure Konqueror is the problem. However, I believe it is the most likely explanation, especially since I have often seen kcrashes while running OpenBSD. On OpenBSD, whenever Konqueror crashes, only Konqueror crashes, not the entire X server. On OpenBSD, I also run fvwm, but with a different configuration. I suspect that perhaps this problem does not occur on OpenBSD because of OpenBSD's propolice security feature, in which case perhaps this bug should be re-assigned to gcc. However, I am not certain. The Debian website says that the serious severity level should be used for bugs which makes unrelated software on the system (or the whole system) break, or causes serious data loss, or introduces a security hole on systems where you install the package. Since this causes unrelated software on the system (the X server and all applications running on it) to break, and results in the loss of any unsaved data in those other applications, I am marking this as serious. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#516829: Http double slash request arbitrary file access vulnerability
Hi, here is a copy of an email I wrote today: Mehdi Dogguy schrieb: Hello, I'm trying to understand why the submitted patch is enough to fix the issue. More particularly, how /../ are removed from the url? Cheers, Hi, the fix for MLDonkey consists of two parts, first this patch which removes leading slashes from the path/filename-part of an URL: http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/mldonkey/src/utils/lib/url.ml?root=mldonkeyr1=1.9r2=1.10 This fixes http://mldonkey:4080//etc/passwd style attacks. This was not enough however to fix the problem so I added this patch: http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/mldonkey/src/daemon/driver/driverControlers.ml?root=mldonkeyr1=1.113r2=1.114 The old code worked like this: If the file requested is not an MLDonkey command or an otherwise internally defined file this code was called: | s - http_send_bin r buf (String.lowercase s) The function http_send_bin was extended in MLDonkey 2.8.4 to check the internal commonPictures database which contains country flags, if a file was not found there, File.to_string was called which reads files from the local filesystem - bad idea. So, the problem was created when country flags were added to MLDonkey. I changed the code shown above to | s - http_send_bin_pictures r buf (String.lowercase s) http_send_bin_pictures is basically the same function as http_send_bin, but it only checks the commonPictures database and does not read any files from the local disc - problem solved. After detecting network and configuring it said that no hard drive can be located. After some investigation in the console I found that the kernel driver was loaded and that I was abble to mount the partitions. But when I ran parted_devices I got a ldd error indicating that libselinux.so.1 was not found. So I downloaded the stable (Lenny) installer and it worked fine. For some reason the libselinux.so.1 library is missing so the partition tools don't work and the installer reports that it can't detect the hard drive, but the hard drive is working fine. -- Jaime Alberto Silva Gerente SG Automatización Ltda. Bug#519126: qrupdate fails to build in Debian on some architectures
The bug is about an optimisation flag that we shouldn't just get rid of. At some point soon, I'll read the gcc manpage and figure out what a proper flag for other architectures should be. http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc-4.3.3/gcc/i386-and-x86_002d64-Options.html#i386-and-x86_002d64-Options has the following to say about -march=native /native/ This selects the CPU to tune for at compilation time by determining the processor type of the compiling machine. Using -mtune=native will produce code optimized for the local machine under the constraints of the selected instruction set. Using -march=native will enable all instruction subsets supported by the local machine (hence the result might not run on different machines). In other words this flag is totally inappropriate for a binary distribution like debian. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? You can not rely on Depends being present during the purge phase. But that call is in *remove*, not purge. See #504880 While I see a relevant thing in last mail from Ian Jackson, it seems to be mostly for corner cases, not for a normal use of the tools like should be in autobuilders. On the dictionaries side we could check from postrm if the script is present before trying to run it, just to be more graceful with the corner cases Ian points out. As a matter of fact Ian's mail convinced me about that, but that is now a wishlist in dictionaries-common and dictionaries policy, and not at all a serious bug, current (buggy) policy text is honoured, and problem only appears in corner cases. However, I keep thinking there is something wrong with autobuilders. Looking at the ia64 compiz build log, I see that packages are unpacked, and before they are configured, there is an error in unpacking lm-sensors, Unpacking lm-sensors (from .../lm-sensors_1%3a3.1.0-1_ia64.deb) ... rmdir: failed to remove `/etc/blacklist.d/#39;: No such file or directory dpkg: error processing /x/org/chroots/buildd/sid/var/cache/apt/archives/lm-sensors_1%3a3.1.0-1_ia64.deb (--unpack): subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: /x/org/chroots/buildd/sid/var/cache/apt/archives/lm-sensors_1%3a3.1.0-1_ia64.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) apt-get failed. Showing only the last error in the final report instead of all problems found looks like a bug in the autobuilders. Asking autobuilders to run dpkg --configure --pending before actually removing packages should have also worked around this problem, making removal work in the correct ordering. Bug#519181: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#519181: xfce4-sensors-plugin: Latest version crashes with backtrace
Yves-Alexis Perez wrote: At what time does it crash? When Adding the plugin or when doing something precise? Would it be possible to attach a gdb and provide a backtrace? The plugin had already been configured to appear on the panel when I upgraded several days ago. Upgrading caused the plugin to disappear, which I found strange, so started checking the logs for errors. I found a backtrace, though slightly different than the one I posted in this bug report. I decided to restart the X server, in case some miscommunication was happening as the result of numerous packages being upgraded at once. The plugin did not reappear, but I did get another backtrace. I am attaching the original backtrace errors, though I'm not sure they are more helpful than the one I sent today. I thought it was likely that this was a problem not limited to myself, so I chose to wait and see if an updated package would appear. Using Sid, I'm used to quick updates on broken packages, so I just reverted to the older plugin for a while. Since no new package appeared, and no one else filed a bug report, I decided that no one else is experiencing the crash. (Or I'm the only Debian user actually using the plugin! ;) Therefore, I submitted the report with the newest backtrace today. For the bug report, I temporarily reinstalled the new version, so that 'reportbug' would automatically show the correct versions and dependencies. I have now gone back to old version so that I can have a working plugin. To answer your questions directly: - the plugin crashed when installed, and when attempting to add it back to the panel. Not when doing some specific function of the plugin, because it simply will not run for me. - I have never used 'gdb', but it's something I need and want to learn. I have no time tonight, and tomorrow I have to work, so it's very likely that I will not be able to experiment with 'gdb' until the day after tomorrow. (In the meantime, can you provide some instructions on what you would like me to do, or direct me to a web page with appropriate instructions?) Thanks, Dave W. *** glibc detected *** /usr/lib/xfce4-sensors-plugin/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin: free(): invalid pointer: 0x01e78390 *** === Backtrace: = /lib/libc.so.6[0x7f762c6a01b8] /lib/libc.so.6(cfree+0x76)[0x7f762c6a1cf6] /usr/lib/xfce4/modules/libxfce4sensors.so.1(get_hddtemp_value+0x125)[0x7f762c988015] /usr/lib/xfce4/modules/libxfce4sensors.so.1(remove_unmonitored_drives+0x4d)[0x7f762c98826d] /usr/lib/xfce4/modules/libxfce4sensors.so.1(initialize_hddtemp+0x12a)[0x7f762c98843a] /usr/lib/xfce4/modules/libxfce4sensors.so.1(initialize_all+0x37)[0x7f762c9856f7] /usr/lib/xfce4/modules/libxfce4sensors.so.1(sensors_new+0x44)[0x7f762c986544] /usr/lib/xfce4-sensors-plugin/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin[0x405ca4] /usr/lib/libxfce4panel.so.1[0x7f762c424df9] /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0[0x7f762bd43818] /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0(g_closure_invoke+0x16d)[0x7f762b03e11d] /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0[0x7f762b051d0d] /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0(g_signal_emit_valist+0x63a)[0x7f762b05305a] /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0(g_signal_emit+0x83)[0x7f762b0536d3] /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0[0x7f762be5841e] /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0(gtk_main_do_event+0x33a)[0x7f762bd3d43a] /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0[0x7f762b78ffec] /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0(g_main_context_dispatch+0x23b)[0x7f762ada6afb] /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0[0x7f762adaa2bd] /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0(g_main_loop_run+0x1cd)[0x7f762adaa7ed] /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0(gtk_main+0xa7)[0x7f762bd3d807] /usr/lib/xfce4-sensors-plugin/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin[0x4037cb] /lib/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe6)[0x7f762c64c5a6] /usr/lib/xfce4-sensors-plugin/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin[0x403689] === Memory map: 0040-00408000 r-xp 08:0a 392059 /usr/lib/xfce4-sensors-plugin/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin 00608000-00609000 rw-p 8000 08:0a 392059 /usr/lib/xfce4-sensors-plugin/xfce4/panel-plugins/xfce4-sensors-plugin 01e0e000-01eb8000 rw-p 01e0e000 00:00 0 [heap] 7f762000-7f7620021000 rw-p 7f762000 00:00 0 7f7620021000-7f762400 ---p 7f7620021000 00:00 0 7f7624fe9000-7f7624fff000 r-xp 08:0a 537611 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 7f7624fff000-7f76251ff000 ---p 00016000 08:0a 537611 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 7f76251ff000-7f762520 rw-p 00016000 08:0a 537611 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 7f762520-7f7625209000 r-xp 08:0a 197524 /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libxfce.so 7f7625209000-7f7625408000 ---p 9000 08:0a 197524 /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libxfce.so 7f7625408000-7f7625409000 rw-p 8000 08:0a 197524 /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libxfce.so
